Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

I loved everything about this book. Who wouldn't love a knitting shop in New York with all the wonderful people who came together every Friday night to knit and share their lives. From the owner and her young daughter to all the diverse women who gather each week. I liked the book so much I ordered the other books by the author to read more about the members of the Friday Night Knitting Club!

A very moving book about what goes in some closed Ultra-orthodox Jewish communities. The day to day life and the things that aren't ever said, especially to outsiders. How a young teen girl deals with what goes on and how different life is for the teen girls and boys. Very well written. I had a hard time putting the book down. I highly recommend this book.

The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: A Love Story
by
Drummond, Ree

I loved this book! Ree is a wonderful writer. I really enjoyed reading about her life and how she met and married Marlboro Man. I had to remind myself that this was not fiction because it was so well written. Ree came a long way from her plans to move to Chicago and her "fancy" clothes and shoes to be a wife on a ranch. I hope she will write another book with more about her life and family.

A wonderful book. I remember some of what took place during that time but I grew up in Michigan. Things in the south were definitely different. I enjoyed the story and how well it was written. One of the best books I have read in a long time. I didn't want the book to end. I just saw the movie tonight and really enjoyed that too, but the book is wonderful itself.

I really enjoyed this book. I started reading the Elm Creek Quilts Novels earlier this summer and have now read all of the published book. This book helped tie up many loose ends in the earlier books, especially those books that were building up the history of the home that now houses the Elm Creek Quilt camp. I can't wait for the next book to be published!

Great book. I love the way the author takes history and uses it to make a really interesting novel. I would love to know more about the real Biograph Girl.
