Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. The Joy of Leaving Your Sh*t All Over the Place: The Art of Being Messy
by
Jennifer McCartney
Steve Snow
, July 18, 2016
Comical, but nice and short. McCartney's writing style is brisk and covers a carefree and undomesticated way of living. Be in the moment, don't worry about appearance, move on with life, that sort of philosophy. Enjoyed the candor and lightness of the book. Not a DIY for doing over yourself. More of a be yourself and the hell with everyone else. I did enjoy the read. Isn't that what books are all about?

Discerning Vocations to Marriage, Celibacy and Singlehood
by
Francis Kelly, Omi Nemeck and Marie Theresa Coombs
Steve Snow
, August 28, 2015
Nemeck covers a hugh amount of information in a well packed softcover. Though this book is almost fifteen years in publication, it is still a great source of knowledge for college grads and young working force personnel wanting to discern where God wants them and what they are called to do when they get there. All this in the context of their status as a person, i.e., single, married or completely out of the social group as a celibate individual. I've seen all three sides of this situation and this would have been an excellent source of help in some past discisions I made. Bottom line, if you are single or celibate, READ this book. If you are married and seeking direction as a couple, it want hurt either. Read on my peeps.
