Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Now Is The Time To Open Your Heart
by
Alice Walker

It is beyond pleasure to read anything by Alice Walker. Her words, so beautifully selected, immediately pull me deep into the always masterfully crafted story. She writes with so much fiery, often raw passion, that I find it impossible to not become completely immersed in the tale. “Now Is The Time To Open Your Heart” is such an exquisitely emotional, awe-inspiring journey … I just finished reading (wondering how I missed it as it was published several years ago!) and so enjoyed the read that I am reading it again … I whole-heartedly recommend this book …

How Can I Help Stories & Reflections On Service
by
Ram Dass, Paul Gorman

I read this book many years ago when I was a crisis intervention counselor and was feeling very overwhelmed by the seemingly endless persons whose lives were in crisis! I believe that I have read everything Ram Dass has written and everything is so right on, so inspirational. This is a must read for everyone but particularly for those in the helping profession. We all want to help, its our nature ... but how? What is truly helpful and what isn't ... such a personal question ... personal to each individual and to each situation. Please take the time to read this ... it will enrich your life in ways you cannot imagine! I have read it several times since and I have given countless copies to friends and clients. And I am about to read it again! Thank you for this opportunity. And thank you, Ram Dass for Being!
