Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 1

This first volume of the manga adaptation of my favourite anime of all time starts out pretty much the same way the show did. That being said, there are changes made, and in my opinion, for the better. Neon Genesis Evangelion's manga was written and drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the character designer for the anime, and it really shows with the downright beautiful artwork, and incredible storyline. The deviations from the anime are spectacularly done, without becoming strange and alienating hardcore fans of the anime. I highly recommend this to anyone that's seen the anime, and everyone that hasn't. You won't be disappointed.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 4

I haven't purchased this product, but I have read this online, so I can say that it's a very crucial point in the Evangelion story. I'm a ginormous fan of NGE as a whole, and to be honest, this volume is the only thing that stands in my way of having the first six, which I consider to be my first step, the easy part, if you will, of having the whole series. I currently own the full anime, both Rebuild films, and Death+Rebirth for DVDs, and 1-3, 5, 6, and 12 for manga. So you can kind of assume that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Eva. Now, the story part of this: At this point, Asuka Langley Sohyru is introduced to us as the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-02, the first "complete" Eva. In the anime she's very brash, and treats Shinji, our protagonist, like dirt (while harbouring a crush on him) but here in the manga, she's a lot less secretive about her feelings. She's more of the tsundere-type character where she's very sarcastic and snarky around other people but when it's just her and Shinji she lets just a tiny bit of her true feelings out. Like in the anime, the two must synchronise their lives to destroy the Sixth Angel. There's a side to the story that differs a lot from the anime in that Shinji and Asuka don't synchronise in Misato's apartment, rather they're in a hotel (I think) and live together in Misato's apartment from the start of volume 5 onward. Overall, this was a great volume in the Evangelion story, and the manga continues to be superior to the anime I already love greatly. I can't wait to read this one for real while holding it in my hands.
