Lost Library Of Cormanthyr Forgotten Realms
by

One of my favorite stories from the TSR Forgotten Realms line. Mel Odom creates characters that you care about. Mel weaves a story about an adopted son and his relationship with his adopted father and mentor. This kind of backstory and emotional nuance you do not normally find in a dungeons and dragons action oriented story but Mel does it well and gives readers more to sink their teeth into then the normal hack and slash narrative. In all this was a very engaging and interesting read with interesting characters and motivations not usually given time to explore in an action story.

Druid of Shannara Heritage of Shannara Book 2

My favorite book of the Heritage Series. Terry creates some of the most interesting characters in the Shannara series: Pe Ell, Walker Boh, and the mysterious Quickening. The story is gripping and full of action and keeps the reader wanting know and care what happens to each character. My only complaint is that Brooks focuses too much on the internal dialogue of each character which can leave the reader overwhelmed. Some hint of the internal dialogue allows the reader to form their own opinion of the motivations of characters but when Brooks details every thought and doubt a character has then their is nothing left to the imaginiation and thus readers may not connect with the characters as they would if some work was left to the reader.

City Of Ravens Forgotten Realms Cities
by

Richard Baker has created a great anti-hero in Jack Ravenwild. Jack is immature and oblivious and he continues to get his comeuppance; yet, you cannot help but root for him. The plot is obvious and nothing really surprises but this is still an engaging story for those who enjoy a simple action oriented story where good overcomes evil. Even though Jack would argue with you that he was not "good" just trying to do his best to make a buck and be a hit with the ladies he still manages to do what is right. A fun read that always manages to make me laugh no matter how many times I have read this story.

Nobles 03 Escape From Undermountain

This is a fun light-hearted read. If your looking for a story that reads like an actual DnD session then this is the book for you. Mark Anthony has a sense of humor and never takes the story too seriously yet still crafts very interesting characters and it is fun to see how they react to some very interesting environments and each other. I have this on my bookshelf and have read many times for pure fun escapism.
