Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Odd Apocalypse: Odd Thomas 5

I have enjoyed Odd Thomas since reading the back cover of the first book. If you have not picked up Odd Thomas, I highly recommend reading the series in order. You will not be lost if you read this book first, Koontz gives quick reminders of things past. I didn't find this one a page burner, but it did keep my interest every evening until it was complete. Odd's gifts and quirkiness make him very likable. The splash of humor in a suspense novel is quite enjoyable. Odd is a great character that you just cannot wait to see what he finds next!

Texas Bug Book: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I bought this book back in 2000. It is a fantastic resource for any one visiting or relocating to Texas. The book gives very accurate descriptions of the critters and where they might like to hide and live. In addition this book gives you an organic way to control the "pest", but also gives you reasons why you may not want to exterminate. I lived on a ranch outside of Austin for many years, this book was an invaluable resource for me to learn about and harness natures power to live in balance with the bugs in Texas. Even though I'm no longer in Texas, I still look up critters I come across to see if there in this book. I would love to see one of these books for each of the 50 states!
