Space Between Us

A heart-rending tale of life in Bombay and the chasm between the privileged and the working poor who serve them. I was drawn in immediately to the characters with real concern for their well being. The twist at the end took me by surprise and had me realize how little I know (or expect) of other cultures. An important and intelligent book with excellent writing.

Mayas Notebook
by
Isabel Allende

What a great read- Maya's Notebook was just a chance in the dark, but I couldn't put it down. Isabel Allende's writing is superb and flowing, using words not often found anymore; engaging the mind just as much as the plot did. This is a book worth reading again someday and I will be looking into the author's other works as soon as I can. The history of Chile (the 1973 horrors) and customs will stick with me a long time. I highly recommend this book!
