A Satan Carol
by
Kessler, Alan S.

A Satan Carol by author Alan Kessler is not just another horror tale replete with the blood, gore, extreme violence or horrific monsters that usually populate horror novels. Instead, this story brings the thought provoking horrors that arise from human nature, free will and giving into the devil’s manipulation. I found the title alone - intriguing and once I started reading, I was immediately drawn into this absorbing book. I enjoyed this tale of the devil and his machinations to become God of his own world Shinyland 7 and to keep his son alive. Both satirical and macabre in nature this book is a tale of religious horror that I found personally intriguing. Mr. Kessler has created a mentally stimulating work that keeps the reader enthralled with the story until its end. The characters are well drawn and the story is rightly detailed so that the reader gets a front seat view to hell. Mr. Green as the devil incarnate, is a well devised antagonist whose antics makes this story a fairytale of spiritual dilemmas that has a moral at the end of the story. Each chapter presents the story of individual characters whose morality is “hanging in the balance” by their personal choices. The characters also have a unique connection, which is not immediately evident early on in the story but ties together by the end. Of All the characters in the story I found Orem to be the character of the greatest depth, he is the protagonist who stands strongest against the devil’s temptations and remains dedicated in his service to God throughout the story; which within the confines of this story is a hard won achievement. A Satan Carol is not a tale for the squeamish because it does contain scenes from Ireland’s potato famine era and other graphic scenes that are quite heart wrenching. However, we are dealing with the devil here. Overall, this is a very well written “thinking man’s” horror that I would entirely recommend to mature readers.

Your Guide to Earth's Pivotal Years: A Direct Path to Enlightened Living
by
Selacia

, September 11, 2012
The book Your Guide To Earth’s Pivotal Year; A Direct path To Enlightened Living by author Selacia is a valuable resource of information for those seeking to gain enlightenment, understanding and guidance especially during the tumultuous times that we are living in today. Selacia is an intuitive healer and a well - known journalist; she has written this book as guide to encourage people to leave their fear based existence and move on to a more heart - centered existence. The author asserts that the transformation of man and this planet and it is going on now and everyone has a place in helping to facilitate these changes. Additionally, she explains how current life on earth seems to be in utter chaos but that chaos is because of the paradigm shift that is occurring and has been occurring for quite some time. This paradigm shift from the old ways of living to a newer more enlightened and compassionate life. The author uses Stream of consciousness writing to explain in detail what exactly is happening and what we can do to survive these trying times. This is not just a book that dictates spiritual tenets but it is a wealth of information and steps that people can take that will help them move on to that higher spiritual vibration that we all need to work on; such as “focusing on creating the life you want” and “Tapping into your divine power”. Included in this valuable book are the questions and answers for many of the issues that most people have concerning living life in the world today and the uncertainty of the future. This book is well written, easy to comprehend and very thorough in its explanations, especially in reference to the current issues with the Mayan prophecy for 2012. I enjoyed reading this book; it was so interesting that I finished it rather quickly. Also, it helped me to gain valuable insight about this world and what the future may hold. I find the information in this book to be so valuable and helpful that I know I will refer to this book repeatedly for inspiration and guidance. I highly recommend this book to all those interested in improving the quality of your life.

Book of Obeah
by
Sandra Carrington Smith

, August 13, 2012
The Book of Obeah by author Sandra Carrington- Smith is a tale steeped in the supernatural that is ripe with mystery, intrigue, spirituality and self-discovery. This is a story that grips the reader and takes a look into the world of Voodoo (also known as Obeah) and where it may intersect with other organized religions. This is nicely written story that is chock full of action, emotions, and greed as Melody Bennet, the story’s heroine has to carry out her deceased grandmother’s wishes that eventually leads her to the discovery of a supernatural family legacy. Melody Bennet, while mourning the loss of her beloved grandma is charged with the normally innocuous task of spreading her ashes however before spreading her ashes Melody also has take a trip to Louisiana to a root worker deep in the swamps and have the ashes blessed through a special ceremony. As it turns out, for Melody, it is the completing of the ritual that leads to her experiencing events, the likes of which she has never seen nor believed in. During the course of the story, Melody discovers facts about herself and her family that changes her spiritual belief system forever. While trying to fulfill her executor duties Melody also uncovers the answer to a year’s old family mystery, which is - the real reason behind her grandmother Giselle’s abrupt flight many, many years ago from her home in Louisiana to a farm in North Carolina. She discovers that Grandma Giselle Baton ran away to save the lives of herself and her innocent children from her be-spelled husband and his powerful and evil witch/ root worker lover. Giselle discovered that her life and the lives of her children were in grave danger. When Giselle ran, she also took a very powerful manual from her husband’s lover “The Book of Obeah”. It is not long after scattering Grandma Giselle’s ashes that Melody soon discovers the coveted book buried on her grandmother’s farm in North Carolina. She also finds out just how powerful and important the book is and unfortunately, for Melody there are others (including the Cardinal of the Catholic Church) that know that the book has resurfaced, the powerful information that the book contains and will not stop to gain possession of the book at any price even if it costs lives. This book was a great read that kept me completely interested until the very end of the book. It is an adeptly written story concerning an interesting topic that deals with the supernatural and spirituality that seems to have been well researched by the author. Melody is a resilient and interesting character that keeps you rooting for her throughout the story. I recommend this book for a great summer read.

Incubus Moon
by
Andrew Cheney-Feid
brown_l_c

In the book, Incubus Moon by author Andrew Cheney - Feid, life for handsome, sex magnet - Justin Austin Iverson is turned upside down and inside out. After suffering through the loss of his only living parent to cancer, Austin soon finds out that his life is not at all, what he believes it to be. Austin thought he grew up having a happy and loving childhood with his natural mother but that was not the case. Carefully built lies and deceptions made up his youth. Fueled by anger and curiosity Austin goes on a mission to find out about his real parents, which leads him to a discovery about himself that is both fantastic and life altering. Austin Iverson is the interesting central character in this paranormal/ horror/romance book that really delivers on all levels. Incubus Moon takes the reader on a paranormal imbued adventure ( and some sexual adventures as well), as thirty year old, bi-sexual, Austin finds out that he was adopted ( a secret that was kept from him throughout his childhood and part of his adulthood) and he seeks to find out the identity of his birth mother. Starting with a séance as an attempt to contact his recently deceased mother, Austin receives a very powerful and frightening message through the psychic that leaves him both curious and frightened. The message is so powerful in fact that the psychic is also severely frightened and immediately severs all ties with him. In the message, Austin finds out about his supernatural legacy and of the coming of a very dark and ominous male called the Shadow Walker. This millennia old evil being, the Shadow Walker wants Austin and wants to harness his newly surfacing supernatural self through a very deadly ritual and the Shadow Walker will not hesitate to destroy anyone that gets in his way. Incubus Moon turned out to be a very well written story that was a great engrossing read. Austin is interesting, sexy and memorable as a main character whose exploits both in and out of the bed are entertaining to say the least. It is at this point that I will issue a word of advice; this story does contain strong sexual content that is both hetero-erotic in nature and homo- erotic in nature; this is a read for very mature readers. This book also contains homo - erotic romance that is well portrayed. As for the paranormal/horror aspects of the book, the story is populated with some familiar concepts and villains, especially for those already familiar with the horror genre. However, there is a nicely done twist, it is a well-written story with plenty of action, and that is part of what makes this book great to read. I would recommend this book to mature readers that enjoy engaging paranormal/horror/romance reads with strong sexual content.

Stunt Road
by
Gregory Mose

Stunt Road by Gregory Mose proved to both an intriguing and stimulating read. This is the first novel by the author and it does indeed make a great impression as the story deals with greed and betrayal stemming from of all things, predicting the future. The main character Peter McFadden becomes famous for creating a system of prognostication, he calls Horokinetics. Peter has seen better days, he graduated from UCLA and was gainfully employed as a CGI animator but a twist of fate had him joining the ranks of the unemployed and much to his chagrin he winds up living off of his girlfriend Susan and his semi " retired parents. He needed a way to change his life and soon. Peter had to find a job but wanted the type of job that suited him. While he was making no headway on the job market he decided that if he were to impress some potential employers with the fact that he could dispel conventional systems of predicting the future and invent his own system of predicting the future, it would assure him a place of favor and therefore lead to job or at least somehow make him some money. Once the system was created but did not get the initial desired results, Peter while a little downtrodden about his situation meets a stranger on “stunt road” and by confiding in that stranger he gains some insight into which direction he should go into with his creation. Following his friends advice Peter’s system takes off in popularity it eventually becomes an issue with other prominent spiritual factions while getting promoted to a cult like level by his supposed new friend. Peter soon finds that his “friend” is not the man he claimed to be and his friendly intentions were not so friendly after all. While Horokinetics did turn out to be a windfall for Peter just when he needed a windfall; it also showed him how deceptive, vicious, backstabbing and greedy people can be even when they are on a supposed enlightened path to help others. I enjoyed this story completely it was well written and the characters were interesting and realistic in their interactions. The story moves at a great pace and takes the reader on an absorbing, witty and entertaining ride that makes you think outside the box about human nature. I would recommend this book for a great summer read.

Multiply and Divide with Sticks and Steps: Teach this Easy Method in Just 5 Minutes
by
Maureen Stearns

, June 01, 2012
Learning math is often a sore point with young school age kids and their parents, as most people are not mathematically inclined. While there are a great many books out there on the market that profess to teaching the easy methods to understanding and performing math functions many of them somehow fall short or present a series of confusing methods that can frustrate both students and parents alike Maureen Stearns B.A. ,M.S. who is a parent, educator and author has found the perfect method to easily teaching multiplication and division to students which is published in a book titled Multiply and Divide with Sticks and Steps. As a parent of six children myself I understand the trials and tribulations of teaching young children anything especially multiplication and division. This book is a simplified guide to multiplication and division and it works very well. I know this system works because I tested the methods out on my own children and the results were great. Written in easy to understand language with the steps adeptly completely illustrated this book can work wonders for all students, this book even includes multiplying and dividing large numbers, common multiples and square roots for the more advanced learners. Also this book includes illustrations that map the steps out which is both a great help and a plus. I highly recommend this book as an at home teaching tool for all students and it should be included in the curriculum for math teachers dealing with students struggling with math.

Return of the Dittos
by
Dale Andrew White

, May 30, 2012
A short story is always enjoyable as long as it makes sense, entertains and holds the reader’s attention for its short life span. A prime example of well written short stories can be found in the book Return of the Dittos and other stories. This book is a collection of unique, absorbing and entertaining short stories by author Dale Andrew White that definitely meet the criteria for the enjoyable short story. Andrew Dale White is also the author of Moe Howard Died for Our Sins which is another well received novel. Author Dale White is a marvelous storyteller that has a keen talent for producing humorous and sometimes fantastical stories that often arise from a rather skewed point of view. The stories included in this well written collection are very entertaining with lots of wit and satire to entice the reader to read on and before you know it you have reached the end of this great read. While reading this book I often found myself laughing out loud many times and other readers will experience the same which made it enjoyable and an easy read. All of the stories in this book are great but there are a few that continue to resonate well after reading such as An Unlikely Story, The Return of the Dittos, Labors of Peon, Crossed Paths and The Simpkins Revelation. Ranging from the witty to the bizarre and all the stories in this collection are worth the read and I enthusiastically recommend this book.

The Bialien Trilogy
by
Vlane Carter
brown_l_c
, April 18, 2012
What exactly is a BIALIEN? Is it some sort of new dance or a recipe for a new exotic dish? Well according to author Vlane Carter, a BIALIEN is Jaden Marino or at least that is what he becomes in the book The BIALIEN Trilogy, an Alien of Two Worlds (volume 1; part 1). Belonging to the ever popular genre of science fiction this book delivers an attention grabbing science fiction story of the fantastical adventures of central character Jaden Marino. BIALIEN … volume 1, is the first in the trilogy of science fiction books that gives the reader’s imagination a real workout. Creative and inventive from the onset the world of Jaden Marino (and the worlds he experiences) are well detailed and chock full of interesting science fiction steeped ideals. Author Vlane Carter has created the adventures of a lifetime within the confines of the life of nineteen year old Jaden Marino. As the story opens the reader is taken in by Jaden’s run for his life, he is being pursued by the military under the false pretense that he stole an experimental plane however, the truth of the matter is that Jaden discovered a landed UFO and the wicked government wants to keep it a secret and shut Jaden up permanently. While he is running Jaden goes back to the UFO and finds protection from the evil military and thus begins his journey to becoming a BIALIEN. It is through the use of nanotechnology that Jaden eventually becomes a BIALIEN. Jaden’s experiences and encounters with alien life forms and their advanced technology proves to be a perfect fit, as he easily adapts to many “alien” types of experiences including, out of body experiences like traveling and observing via a “nanoeye”, telepathic communication, using x-ray vision and camaraderie with other alien life forms. As Jaden is being watched and aided by a friendly race of aliens, the Andromedians they become so impressed with Jaden that they charge him with the responsibility to return to earth and unite earth so that earth can fight an impending evil alien invasion that comes in the form of another evil alien race called the Darclonians. The saga continues in BIALIEN series Volume 1; book 2 and BIALIEN series Volume 1; book 3. The series is continued thereafter in Volume ll; parts 1, 2, 3 and Volume lll; parts 1, 2, 3. Overall this is an intriguing story that brings to mind some of the other great science fiction adventures of the past such as Star Wars. While this book does make for a good read there are a few editing issues, such as misspellings, confusion of word tenses and spacing issues. Also these books are categorized as “graphic” novels although there is little in the way of actual graphics presented in the book however, the ones that scattered throughout the books are awesome. Another interesting point about this trilogy is the author has determined that his writing the books in the present tense which allows the reader to experience the novel “… as if they were watching a movie”. I found this a little confusing initially but as I read on, I found myself getting past that issue as I became immersed in the story. I would recommend the BIALIEN trilogy to any science fiction fans that like to get lost in adventure.

Telepathy: A Quantum Approach
by
Theresa M. Kelly
brown_l_c
, April 07, 2012
There are some mysteries in life that will always defy explanation but eventually fade into the category of the “inexplicable” and then there is the category of events that are inexplicable but debatable. The subject of PSI is one of those inexplicable but debatable topics that have always raised questions that have gone unanswered. Luckily there those within the scientific community that have dedicated their knowledge, wisdom and scientific prowess to seeking the truth to the unanswered questions that are raised in terms of humans and the conscious wielding of PSI powers. One such person is Dr. Theresa M. Kelly who is a renowned metaphysicist and bestselling author. Dr. Kelly has compiled a textbook titled Telepathy A Quantum Approach: The Psychical Influence of Thought which aptly details the in depth study and testing of the PSI ability of telepathy and other aspects of PSI within the scientific realm. This book also includes the building blocks needed to help enhance open up your PSI abilities; this also includes a diet regime and changes in thinking and lifestyle. This is a somewhat technical book and uses many scientific terms that may or may not be familiar to the reader. Although the language used is not extremely difficult to understand it would have helped to have an included glossary to help along the reading and learning process. This book reads pretty much like textbook should, it contains a great deal of subject related data and it is presented thoroughly. Also it does help to have a basic understanding of what PSI is and an interest in the various scientific testing processes; in that way the data reported from the scientific aspect of this book makes sense. This book is packed with some eye opening information that will lead the inquisitive reader into looking for further information. The reader/student is also tested on their recently attained knowledge with questions posed at the end of each chapter. A great plus about this book is the included mental exercises that anyone of any level of PSI experience can try and with a bit of effort may receive notable results. Overall this book is a good solid textbook that is rich with information and possibilities for students. I would recommend this book as a text book for students or the learned of the metaphysical.
