Picked this book up at the library on the new shelf not for any particular reason. Just needed a book. I didn't really like this book too much. It was slow, sometimes confusing with characters, as well as characters being owned by the devil and then not. Then the ending was just so blasé; so "happily ever after." I actually enjoyed the character "Tess" the most, and learned about her through her journals as well. I plowed through it and finished, but most likely wouldn't pick up another by the author, although other books from this author have received good reviews.

Confession A Novel

John Grisham

Amazing book! When a fictional book makes you re-think the current, real life status quo - it's a book that I consider amazing. This book made me look more critically at our death penalty laws. The read was fast, and kept me off guard all the way through. LOVED IT!

Leftovers

This book has an interesting premise, but is not a smooth read. It was a bit disconcerting going to all the different people and having to keep up with so much information. I often confused Nora and her sister, Karen. Towards the end, I could feel this rise to a climax, that, for me, just never happened. Note that the writer does write well, but I wasn't left with memories and book friends.

Green 00 The Circle Series
by
Ted Dekker

Green was the last that I read in The Circle Series by Ted Dekker. I was eager to finish this series, because it had been so good. This book was, for me, the weakest of the series, with the most confusion. Although, I did like the great connections between The Circle’s confusion and division, and today’s churches same confusion and division. Also thought-provoking was the questions of science that the son, Samuel, brought up, not different than today. However, the flipping back and forth from present day to the days of The Circle were not as seamlessly and there was at least one mistake that didn’t connect with the rest of the series. My advice is to start with Black and then go through the series. Oh, one other thing I did like were some of the most wonderful quotes. All in all this series is well worth the read and you will not be disappointed, and you will be encouraged, revived, inspired and hopefully have a view of Jesus’ love that will impact your heart and cause you to seek him.

White 03 The Circle Trilogy
by
Ted Dekker

I finished “Black” in a rush and couldn’t wait to get to “Red.” I was blown away by “Red” and was in a panic when I was in a place without a major bookstore. However, the town of LaGrange, KY, had Karen’s Bookstore in the historic area, and the ONLY Ted Dekker gook she had in the series was “White.” And it did not disappoint! This is probably the best modern Christian allegory I have ever read. The combination between the “sci-fi” world of The Circle and The Horde, and the present day world of viruses and politics was well-woven. Each world could be its own story, but told in tandem it was twice the ride. Then the love story of Thomas and Chelise that exemplifies the love of Christ to each of us, was intoxicating and gave me a new perspective on how much Jesus loves me, as well as helped me to see how I can love my earthly man of God better. Wow! And yes, I finished reading this just in enough time to get to at bookstore the next day and get “Green.” Explore Christ’s love in a whole new way and you’ll be panting for more. What a ride!

Black The Circle Series Volume 1

The Great Romance: He chooses. He pursues He rescues He woos He protects He lavishes He loves Love this book. The Great Romance (which are the words above) is such a great reminder of who God is and how we should love that “special one”. This book has a description of life AFTER the wars and during the years of peace before the Armageddon " fictional, of course, but wonderful. The dual parts of the book (2 different time periods) were engaging, edge of the seat " I couldn’t get back to reading it quick enough. Also, it was intriguing to have a graphic novel in the back (not my thing, but certainly is popular and still gives the story and encourages reading). This book is a great allegory (think “Lord of the Rings” and “Chronicles of Narnia” in the details and Christ-focus). The most intriguing: Thomas’ first time with Elyon (Jesus). The purging of the sin and that pain and the filling of the goodness in the water. This relationship between water and Elyon " fascinating. The look at Teelah, the Great Deceiver, just a wonderful reminder that deceit/Satan changes its form for each person " but in the end it is always death " and often to more than just ourselves. Am already reading “Red” (Book 2) and loving it. This will be a series I will complete with the great enthusiasm that I read the “Left Behind” series.

Litigators
by
Grisham, John
sheilaarnold39

Another John Grisham home run! There are only a couple of writers that can move from just reading a fiction book to taking on a new point of view, and John Grisham is one of the few. The characters in this book are just robust and fun. David Zinc is the king of guy I want to meet. The indictment of mass tort litigators and of overseas product testing is well done, but not preachy. The story line is never straight, which I love about Grisham, so be prepared to not know which way the path will go. Enjoy the read, and, Mr. Grisham, if you are reading - thanks for the GREAT read and I am waiting for the next. (Side note: If you enjoy this book, then also read Grisham's "The Runaway Jury" and "The Confession".)

Confession

Pretty much any legal novel that John Grisham writes makes me happy. This one had me on the edge, trying to predict the ending, and getting it all wrong. His characters are all well-developed with multiple sides on them. I found myself cheering at times in this book and then groaning at parts. The thing that makes this book so great is the fact that this could be the truth! Makes me more aware of those on death row and wanting to be more politiclly involved. A great story and one that makes you want to be an activist.
