Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Map of the Sky A Novel
by
Felix J Palma

Felix J Palma is one of the best narrators of our time. He spins a fascinating story with a voice that is different than any other I have read recently. The Map of the Sky takes you on an adventure much like his first novel, Map of Time, and he uses popular literary geniuses (Edgar Allan Poe, H.G. Wells) and endearing original characters to weave his stories together. Not afraid to interject with comments from the omnipotent storyteller, Palma makes the reader part of the story and assures you of a tale of dizzying heights. Plus it is the only book I have ever bought that came with its own pair of 3D glasses.

Man Walks Into A Room
by
Krauss, Nicole

This book engaged a very interesting idea of maintaing a mature brain while losing the majority of your memory. I found that the main character Samson was extremely likable, although you question why he finds no desire to relearn his adult past. It asks questions that would actually be asked in such a situation while still being a relatable story.
