Renee Macalino Rutledge: Powell's Q&A: Renee Macalino Rutledge, author of 'One Hundred Percent Me' (0 comment)
Could you describe your latest book, One Hundred Percent Me?
A little girl is used to hearing questions about her looks all the time. "Where are you from?" "What are you?" These questions are a constant reminder from others that she is different. As she embraces her identity and culture, she teaches others that she belongs, that the differences they notice are part of what make her unique, special, and herself....

Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
    abookworm1966, May 08, 2013
Great novel. First time reading it and I'm sorry I didn't read it sooner. Great story about desire, intention, perceptions, and the things that drive people. A couple of unexpected plot twists in my opinion, which made it an even better read! I need to read Fitzgerald more often...

    Tinkers by Harding, Paul
    abookworm1966, July 17, 2012
Very provocative novel...poetic and ethereal. I was compelled to see what happened through to the end. Can't wait to see what else Mr. Harding has to offer us.

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Gregory Rabassa
    abookworm1966, July 14, 2012
Good read...great perspective from en entire town who knew Santiago was going to die, practically watched it happen, and did nothing. Marquez's writing never disappoints.

Left Hand of Darkness UK by Ursula K Le Guin
    abookworm1966, July 05, 2012
Intense read and very thought provoking. No doubt Leguin was ahead of her time when she wrote this novel. Childbirth and gender, while not the main focus of the story plays a strong role and leaves one questioning the hegemony of modern society and the roles imposed on all of us.

The Quiet Girl by Peter Heg
    abookworm1966, May 23, 2012
This was a fascinating book...taking twists and turns at every page. The main character was quite unique...I found myself eager to see what would happen with him next and not only where he would be next, but trying to figure out how he got there. It kept me wanting more, and not wanting it to end at the same time.

Same Kind of Different as Me A Modern Day Slave an International Art Dealer & the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together by Ron Hall
    abookworm1966, April 09, 2012
This is a great book. One of human compassion, and of people forgetting the boundaries that often separate us. Heart wrenching and moving, this book truly illustrates how easy it is to put differences aside.

Fountainhead Centennial Edition by Ayn Rand
    abookworm1966, January 02, 2012
Incredibly intense book...great view of the human condition. As relevant today as it was when it was written, if not more so. Rand was well ahead of her time.
