Gimme Refuge The Education of a Caretaker
by
Matt Love

, July 23, 2013
Gimme Refuge, by Matt Love, is one of those Pacific Northwest books that revives my faith in our area's literary merit. His engaging prose and wholeheartedly honest tone lend authenticity to his storytelling, and his celebration of the state and culture of Oregon not only make me proud to have once been his student, but also to be a fellow Oregonian. This is merely one in a series of wonderful books by Matt about the Oregon Coast, and together they not only tell of one man's experience, but encapsulate a culture. An all-around great read.

Love & the Green Lady
by
Matt Love
Derek Trygstad
, January 25, 2012
Love & the Green Lady is a wonderful example of the culture and vibe that distinguishes the Oregon coast from anywhere else. As a native Oregonian myself, I found myself agreeing vigorously with Matt's adoration for this small beach town called Newport, his romantic yearning for something greater than what we have now, and the pure childish enthusiasm for the little things in life. The Yaquina Bay Bridge is an iconic landmark not just for residents of Lincoln County, but a feat of engineering admired throughout the entire state and region, and deserves recognition in a national or even global field. The use of self-shot photographs makes you feel as if you're right there with Matt on the bridge, taking in the glory of a Pacific sunset or lounging on the rail of the Green Lady herself. This book and this man are staples of Oregon literature; don't just buy this book, get in your car and drive to Newport, and visit the most beautiful county in the United States.
