There are lots of great, weird and eerie stories in this huge book. For anyone who is a fan of the strange and bizarre, H.P. Lovecraft's Necronomicon is the way to go! His stories just have an otherworldly quality. I just read Cool Air and really liked it, so pick this one up!

The Price of Fear: The Film Career of Vincent Price, in His Own Words
by
Eisner, Joel
tina blacksmith
, August 10, 2014
Considering that Vincent Price is my favorite actor, I was thrilled when someone gifted me this book. It is his life, in his own words, as told to Joel Eisner. Price recounts so many memories in this book, like the time he and some other actors had a contest to see who had the most "shapely" calves! Highly recommended for Vincent Price fans young and old! :)

Strain Strain 1
by
Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan
tina blacksmith
, August 10, 2014
I am now reading The Fall, and I have to say that this trilogy has me hooked. Don't mind those who say this was an attempt to cash in on the vampire craze. Guillermo del Toro had drawings and ideas of the vampires way before Twilight came on to the scene. These books are taut and well-written. If you want sparkly vamps, these books are not for you. If you want vampires the way they should be...out for blood...then I suggest reading The Strain!

Bad Seed
by
William March
tina blacksmith
, September 22, 2013
The Bad See is creepy, not because it is about murder, but because it is about a child that kills people. In today's society, when we watch the news, all we see is murder. It's not as shocking as it probably was when this book was written. The Bad See is a really good read!

Best of Joe R Lansdale

Joe R. Lansdale is a wonderful writer. I especially liked "Bubba Ho-Tep" and Incident "On and Off a Mountain Road". Lansdale will make you laugh, but he also has some serious stuff for good measure. Read this...you won't be disappointed!

Sorrow Floats
by
Tim Sandlin
tina blacksmith
, January 30, 2013
After reading "Skipped Parts" by Sandlin, I became a fan. I loved reading about Sam Callahan, his mom Lydia, and Maurey, the teenage mother of his daughter. So, when I read that there were more books focusing on this crazy bunch, I wanted to read them. "Sorrow Floats" focuses on Maurey Pierce, and I found it highly entertaining. I laughed so many times, just like when I read "Skipped Parts". Tim Sandlin is a great author, and I look forward to finishing "Social Blunders" in the near future!

James and the Giant Peach: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)

James and the Giant Peach is one of my favorites by Roald Dahl. At the beginning, you feel sorry for James and then he makes friends, travels to places he's never been...it's just a nice story, with good characters. You could read this multiple times.

Battle Royale
by
Koushun Takami
tina blacksmith
, June 17, 2012
Although Battle Royale came out a while ago (thirteen years ago in Japan), I just now read the book. My husband and I bought the movie not long ago, so I wanted to read the book first. Battle Royale is a really good book. After I read the first few chapters, I thought, "I have to finish this to see who wins and what happens in between". Battle Royale has gore (DUH!),humor, and a lot of sad parts, which is what I expected. It is an all around very entertaining book. I was surprised at some of the students who were killed. Some I expected (and hoped) would live, but I ended up being wrong about them. It may sound strange, but I was rooting for some students and others (a select few) I hated. They were so cold-hearted, but I am sure that's how Takami wanted it. This book leaves you thinking, "Could I go against the people I care for...the people I've known all my life? What would I do?"

The Book Thief
by
Markus Zusak
tina blacksmith
, March 28, 2012
When I first read the description of this book, I knew I would like it. What I didn't know was how much I'd really end up liking it. The Book Thief is full of emotion, and to me, it was a page turner. Liesel is a book thief, and we learn about her life during the reign of Adolf Hitler. She is such a good character, and I can relate to her love of books. Rudy is also an excellent character. Speaking of Rudy, toward the end of the book, I had tears in my eyes. Liesel and Rudy are the types of characters you never forget. They're well-developed and when something happens to them, good or bad, you feel for them. One of my favorite moments was the part about Jesse Owens. With a serious book like this, it can be hard to inject humor and actually pull it off, but Markus Zusak made it work. I can see myself reading this again and again, and I recommend others to do the same!

A great story about a boy who comes from a poor family, but he wins a golden ticket to the chocolate factory. This book shows that dreams can come true, and it has candy, so what's not to love?!

Night
by
Elie Wiesel
tina blacksmith
, March 06, 2012
I first read "Night" in middle school. I try to learn as much as possible about this period in history. After someone reads this book, it will probably make them a little less happy about the world we live in. I do recommend this book to anyone interested in this time period. It is a sad book, but a great one.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Millenium #1)
by
Stieg Larsson
tina blacksmith
, March 06, 2012
In my opinion, this is the best book in the trilogy. I mean, after all, it is called "The Girl Who..." and I just feel like this is the only book that really and truly focuses on Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is a great character, and many people can relate to her. This is always difficult for authors to achieve, but it's nice when a reader can connect with the main character. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a wonderful read.

I'm not even done with this book (still have a little over 100 pages left) but it is such a good book. Stockett did such a good job of displaying the emotions that these people had to have felt back then. Excellent read!!
