Enslaved by the Others

Holy comeback!! Jess has brought the magic back to the series and I’m totally thrilled that there wasn’t cliff hanger! That right there made me give it an extra heart/star. So six hearts/stars!! I started the series with a binge read, two books ago. I didn’t realize that the book I picked was part of a series and with my OCD tendencies; I couldn’t very well start the review book without catching up. Good thing I did too. You cannot pick up any of the H&W Investigation books in the series and expect to know what is going on. Please. I implore you, read it from start to finish. Trust me it’s worth it. As an extra bonus, you will not end your read on a cliffhanger, unlike some of the prior books. Ms. Haines sucks you in and then leaves you hanging in a couple of books. It was so agonizing. I missed the first one, but not the next. I will also say that her universe is very worth it and even though it was painful to experience the cliffhangers, I wouldn’t trade in her books for anything. Enslaved By the Others starts off right where Forsaken ends. I love that about Ms. Haines. She doesn’t mess around. She jumps right in. Shia is in trouble (again) and truthfully, it looked very bleak. A past enemy is back for a bit of payback and she is right in the middle of it. He is a very sadistic vampire that will do anything to get what he wants. Her time with Max is sometimes very painful to read. Ms. Haines draws you in in such a way that you can envision Shia’s surroundings and feel her pain. Very well done. It amazes me that Shia is has held onto so much of her humanity. This woman has been to hell and back again and with this story, I think she may have actually been scorched a bit. She is constantly battling, but never gives up. She is a very persistent heroine. Love her! We revisited past enemies, experience new horrors, find and lose friends, and I fell further in love with the series. Divine! My only real complaint is that I still don’t know what/who one of the characters is. Since the issue is far from resolved I can only guess that we will find out. That opens up another point. She actually ended the story in such a way, I questioned that Enslaved By the Others was the final book. Yes, there were still unanswered questions, but if it had to end, it wasn’t a bad ending. I’m very happy to report, after some hardcore looking, that the series is scheduled for a few more installments. Can I get a Heck Yeah!!

Stranger I Married
by
Sylvia Day
tsteinerid
, July 08, 2014
Two people who marry for the same reason. In historical England that is a rare gift. Four years later it seems that everything has changed. Now it appears each want something different. Is it time to end a marriage that maybe never really had a chance to begin with? Usually at this point I tell a bit about the characters, to explain a bit more about them. Most of the time, a short blurb doesn’t capture their true qualities. I really don’t need to here. The blurb does a fabulous job " their sensual appetites, wicked wits, provocative reputations, and their absolute refusal to ruin their marriage of convenience by falling in love. That sums them both up to a tee. Gerard wants his mother off his back about him getting married and Isabel wants the protection that marriage grants her with her lovers. Both will get their wish with their unconventional marriage. Four years later and everything is the same, yet different. Gerard receives a huge shock early in their marriage and suddenly leaves. With no word from her husband during his absence, Isabel carries on with her life, the life they both agreed upon. Once he returns, he is the one that has changed and now wants to reevaluate their marriage agreement. Isabel will not go willingly. She enjoys her life the way it is. Gerard will have his hands full convincing her to agree to this new arrangement. Sylvia Day really knows how to tell a tale. I was invested in this love story from the very beginning. The Stranger I Married was beautifully written with amazing heart and passion. You could feel his pain and her determination. Even with such strong willed people they didn’t stand a chance. They were both too well suited to be nothing short of a wonderful couple. This novel had it all, grandeur, blazing hot sex, richly detailed characters and a storyline that was unique. I also loved, loved, loved the extra bonus of Trenton. Isabel couldn’t ask for a better brother. Fabulous historical read with just the right about of scorching sex and a plot that was simply amazing. I couldn’t put it down and if you like/love this genre, I highly doubt you will be disappointed and I would recommend it over and over again.

Loving Lord Ash
by
Sally Mackenzie

, June 28, 2014
If you have been with the Duchess of Love series from the beginning you know about Ash, the unhappily married Marquis. We get tidbits that something terrible happened early on in his marriage, but we never quite know. He shuts down, doesn’t want to talk about it and his wife’s name is rarely mentioned. Now we get to find out what really happened. I’m very happy to finally know the whole truth and to revisit the whole Valentine clan, but this one didn’t stack up to the rest. You have two people, who had feelings for each other, but they can’t manage to make it work and they both suffer terribly. This is one colossal mess of a marriage. While one of the excuses is that they married young. They were not that young for the time period; she was twenty and he was twenty-two. There was no real excuse for this marriage to have lasted eight years with neither trying to work things out or to finish it. When you find out how much each had suffered in those years, it is beyond unacceptable. Ash’s lack of trying or will to end it bothers me. If it had only been a few years I think I could have accepted it better, but in my eyes he’s a scared wimp. Here we have the future Duke of Greycliffe and he can’t confront his wife about something he seen with his own eyes? Then you pile on years of rumors and gossip, yeah I don’t buy it. I enjoyed that the story was finally told, but the reasoning and excuses didn’t do it for me. Ms. MacKenzie’s writing was wonderful and she was able to convey the pain, anguish, love and devotion into their tale, but I wish it was more realistic. We already have a marquis marrying a groom’s daughter and then you add in the misunderstanding that would make any man in his position run for the hills. I still devoured the story because I’m totally in lust with the series, but this one didn’t stand up to the other two and a half novels. I really adore the Valentine family and I’m going to miss them. Farewell Duchess of Love; you have been a joy to read about. Great job on a lovely series Ms. MacKenzie. No matter how I felt about this final chapter, I still loved the journey.

Rope Me in

I was in the mood for some wild lovin’. I knew I had to pick up book one in this sexy Texas based series. Nothing like Texas, cowboys, Doms and ménage to get things revved up! What I loved most about Jed, Harry and Will was that they knew what they wanted and they went after it. For me personally, when I think of a strong man, I envision height, strength, assertiveness, determined and loving. That is how Ms. DeLand wrote the MacRae brothers. Each man was unique, but together they were a tsunami of passion that rolled right over the woman they all desired, Cara. Cara came to town with thoughts of that being burned once was enough, but she can’t seem to forget her former crush on the striking MacRae men. She knows they are trouble, but maybe she should just dip her toe. So why is Bravado most definitely fictional? If the town was a real, there wouldn’t be a shortage of women. Women would flock to Bravado. It offers well off men who never stop loving, appreciating and adoring their women. They are a dream come true. I’m kinda sad that Ms. DeLand’s town isn’t real and I’ve been teased with such greatness. Rope Me In is a perfect read for what I was looking for. It was steamy, heart pounding and hot as hell. I would recommend the book for people who would love to escape to a small town in Texas, dive into a toe curling romance with three men and want to experience country life where they grow the men big and strong and full of passion.

Gimme Some Sugar
by
Kimberly Kincaid

, June 07, 2014
4.5 stars of awesomeness! Ok I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I was so right!! This series has gotten better. While we are only on the second book of the Pine Mountain series, I can say I think Carly and Jackson may just be one of my favorite couples. Both Carly and Jackson have been burnt by love, but on totally different ends of the spectrum. Carly is hurt by a ladder climbing, soon to be, ex-husband and Jackson from past family history. They both know there is something special between them, but are too stubborn to allow it to blossom, out of fear and self-preservation. What a major loss! Gimme Some Sugar is 100% about them and their journey to heal and find the love they both deserve. Their story is about their instant attraction, how they fought the pull and came to a mutual agreement and then had a ton of fun together. I enjoyed how utterly blindsided they were when they finally realized what they had to lose and how it all came about. Gimme Some Sugar was well written and an extremely enjoyable read. I was thrilled that some old characters from the first in the series, Turn Up the Heat, played a visit and a small part in the story, but I am sad that Grady wasn’t around. No, no, no not gone. He’s around, just happily retired. I loved the new additions to the town and I’m very excited about the next installment, Stirring Up Trouble. Stirring Up Trouble will be about Sloan and Gavin. Sloan played a minor part in this story, but made her mark. I love that she is a romance writer and is in need of inspiration. Enter Gavin. He on the other had played a very small role in this novel and I can’t wait to see what secrets this man has hidden. I highly recommend this book for sheer pleasure of reading a solid romance novel. Gimme Some Sugar most definitely can be read alone, but Turn Up the Heat was a very enjoyable read too. Not as solid for me as Gimme Some Sugar, but still good fun. Together, they would heat up weekend and warm your heart. What more can you ask from a feel good romance?

Turn Up the Heat

Kimberly Kincaid

, June 05, 2014
3.5 Stars. I really enjoyed Turn Up the Heat. The characters were engaging, the sex was just warm enough and the plot was easy going. All around good afternoon relaxing read. Bellamy’s life is up in the air and a little vacation is in order. Along with her two best buddies, she gets away from the city to the snowy mountains. Too bad her car didn’t like the trip. What Shane doesn’t need is a city girl coming into town in her little broken down sports car. What was the woman thinking driving a Miata in the snow? One look at her and he knows she will be trouble. Shane couldn’t be more right. When one door closes, another one opens is a good motto for Turn Up the Heat. Both main characters have issues in their lives but that doesn’t stop them from heating up the small town of Pine Mountain. As their issues start to implode or get resolved, Bellamy and Shane make a great connection; both inside and outside of the bed. I think Shane blew things out of proportion, but Bellamy made her fair share of mistakes too. I enjoyed their courtship, but at time I was completely frustrated at Ms. Kincaid’s ability to keep me guessing about Shane. As the series continues I hope to see some of the people that were introduced to us. They were the icing on the cake and I loved how you could almost feel their bonds of friendship. I can also see myself falling in love with Pine Mountain and I can’t wait to read more about this small mountain town. Don’t even get me started on the tasty recipes that are included with the book. All I can say is YUM! Turn Up the Heat is a great sweet story about friendship, love, trust, and food. I think Ms. Kincaid will have us craving for more and more.

Born in Blood
by
Alexandra Ivy

, June 03, 2014
3.5 Stars Born in Blood is a very good read but has typical “first book in a new series” syndrome; a whole bunch of vivid and descriptive world building that took away from the characters. In this new universe, paranormal creatures and gifted people fall under the title “high blood” or freak, the derogatory term used for them. While their existence is known, they are still veiled in secrecy. They live in a city called Valhalla that is protected by a magic dome. Callie has been living in Valhalla for as long as she can remember. Her gift was recognized by her parents and she was dumped into a dumpster. Luckily she found kindness and love in her new home and is now a grown woman who is in high demand by the local police force for her rare gift of necromancy. But she has a little problem. She needs to keep her mind on her job and off the sexy detective that has been occupying way too much of her time. She needs to concentrate or be woman enough to take what she wants and desires. Today is Duncan’s lucky day. It seems his favorite fantasy is interested in him too. Now he needs to play it cool to catch her and keep her. The problem is, she has a huge tattooed killer of a bodyguard and they have a high blood killer on the loose. Oh and I forgot to mention…zombies. He doesn’t have the time to woo Callie, but he isn’t about to let her slip from his grasp. Ms. Ivy does a very thorough job building her world, but it drew me away from where I wanted to be, with Duncan and Callie. I enjoyed the story as a whole, but I wasn’t blown away. Now that the building is done, I hope that the future installments will take what I expect to be a great series, to the next level. Ms. Ivy has always found a way to pull me in and I expect her to continue to do that. On a very very positive note, the fact she is titling the series after the sexy hot and very deadly sentinels, well that alone will keep me coming back for more. I think Ms. Ivy has developed the next hottie of the paranormal world. Sentinels are deliciously alpha with mind blowing sex appeal. Need I say more?

Until the Dawn

Until the Dawn is the first book in the Nemesis series. We meet two people who felt the sparks of attraction from the very first moment and though it took two weeks for them to finally light on fire, they now have a raging inferno on their hands. Their passion is out of control and danger is around every corner. Neither knows who to trust and where to turn, but together they are unstoppable. Wow this story moved very fast. I was thoroughly entertained by their adventure and I was left all sexed up. Whew, that was some very hot reading. I really can’t say these two burned up my Kindle, it was all Dan. That man is a force to be reckoned with. I’m not sure if he is a national treasure or a deadly weapon. Even though I wanted to steal Dan from Madison, I never really connected with Madison and Dan as a couple. I can see loving them, but there wasn’t time. Their adventures hit fast and hard and were nonstop. Every time I thought I would connect, the poor couple had more hit them. I hope I can connect with them in future installments. I really enjoyed the peek at some of the supporting cast too. Madison’s old roomie from college, Nikki, seems like she is going to be amazing and I hope to read more about her soon. I can see a very interesting series beginning though. Covert ops, danger and some very blindingly hot sex. I have no doubts that I’m going to enjoy the series, because you can’t help but have a true winner with these two amazing authors. With Desiree and Cerise at the helm this is going to be a fan-flippin-tastic ride!!

Shatter

Joan Swan

, May 26, 2014
Hmmmm. I’ve either having preemptive withdrawals or some major denial going on. Just finished reading Shatter and I feel shattered. For the last few years, Mitch has been a part of the group, but yet also apart from the group. The Phoenix Rising series initially focused on a Hazmat team; firefighters that were injured in a huge hazmat explosion. Mitch is the twin brother of the first heroine in the series, Alyssa. He has no special skills or abilities other than being a great big arrogant pain in the butt that has the connections to keep his new family secure and safe. He is always great for comic relief and a complete trouble maker. He is a known womanizer and a brilliant attorney and in his own way the backbone of this whole group. Halina was introduced to us towards the end of book three, Rush. From the moment Mitch sees her face, you knew that his story was going to be a wild ride. Mitch was always the calm, collective one in the group; keeping his head straight and on track. One look of Halina and his world begins to crumble around him and Shatter is his story. He never thought he would see her again, but he has found her and he is going to make her explain how she is involved in the circumstances that are continually putting his family in danger and why she lied to him. Their interactions are heated and passionate. But they also hold a hopelessness that grabs you deep in your soul. As you watch his discovery of why she left him, you hurt for him and also share in his joy. It’s simply divine. Ms. Swan wrote an amazing tale that may or may not have wrapped up this series. I honestly have no idea if it is the ending or not and that bugs me. Even though the plot behind what happened to the group is answered and justice is served, I am left wanting more. Seth was totally dropped. He was on a mission that ended abruptly with no mention of him and then there is Kai. Kai is a man with a mysterious aura and has many issues that are just under the surface. Does his story get told? Even though these potentially great characters seem to have been forgotten; from the first book to this last book it has been an amazing and wondrous read. Ms. Swan has fashioned an amazing world filled with characters that are very engaging and real with a plot that is intricate and yet simple to follow. My only problem is the few unanswered questions, but all in all this is one top notch series that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Well written with heart, passion and soul.

Rush

4.5 stars. I was completely blown away with the first book in the Phoenix Rising series, Fever. Book two, Blaze, was a fast paced scorching read and book three, Rush is a high adrenaline ride from the first page to the very last. I can’t believe it took me this long to catch up. My only defense was life got in the way and I’m glad that I was able to do a marathon read when I was finally able to dig back in. Jessica and Quaid’s story is a heartbreaking story. Friends who became lovers and then newlyweds then a tragic accident rip them apart. Jessica then began a horrible downward spiral that took her years to conquer and though her life is a half-life, she has purpose and resolve to make everyone involved with her husband’s death to pay. Q is a man who doesn’t have a past and only one friend to hold onto. The red haired woman from his past has left his dreams and his only friend has just attempted to escape their concrete prison. Reality and fantasy are fine lines in his life and when he is finally revisited by his mystery woman and they finally share a kiss, he is a happy man. But when he meets the woman of his dreams, can he trust that she is real. Rush takes place right where Blaze finished off. The team may have found their lost member and will do anything to bring him home; for themselves, but more for Jessica. Her life has been miserable without Quaid but she fights his possible existence. Their reunion is so bittersweet, but you can feel the spark between them right from the very first moments. While there were times I wanted both of them to move on, I also was cheering them to find what they lost. I couldn’t imagine the pain and heartbreak they encountered. When they first had sex, I was on a rollercoaster of emotions. I was thrilled at the possibilities then felt utter despair and pain. I can’t recall every experiencing such mixed emotions. Ms. Swan did an amazing job and wow this whole storyline is engulfing. I couldn’t put it down. I craved page after page. Like I mentioned before, I’m so glad that I had all the books to read them all at once. I would have hated to have to wait for the next installment. Ms. Swan has penned a diverse and interesting world that is sexy, adventurous and refreshing.

No Sunshine When Shes Gone

4.5 Stars I was excited to find out there was another Barefoot Williams story. I have loved this series from the very beginning. No Sunshine When She’s Gone was the perfect backyard read for me this weekend. Jillie and Carrie have come to Barefoot William for the next year or so. They work for the Rogues Organization and are in town to promote interest in the Richmond Rogues. Aidan and Mike are building the training facility for the Richmond Rogues. Two sets of friends working on separate sides of the same coin that are destined to merge and share amazing futures. I found Jillie charming from the very start. She is a free spirit, but at times I couldn’t totally agree with her choices. She is larger than life, but is surprisingly blind to the beauty around her sometimes. Aidan. He is a wonderful character. A little withdrawn, but has such a giving heart. In the beginning he surprised me with his decisions regarding his girlfriend, but when he made up his mind about Jillie, he melted my heart. Not to mention Sadie. His treatment of her alone won me over. I can’t really mention Jillie and Aidan without talking about the second couple in the book, Carrie and Mike. I remember last night just salivating for their next scene together. They were a couple that had an amazing journey. Mike was a jerk 99% of the time and Carrie was way too sweet and forgiving, but I’m glad they seen beyond the others protective facade’s and allowed their relationship to blossom. They are in my opinion shining stars in this story. No, that goes to Olive. You’ll have to read the story to find out about her. Loved her in the first book and I think I may love her even more now. No Sunshine When She’s Gone is a fantastic story. You get drawn into the beauty of Barefoot William and don’t want to leave. With the people of Barefoot William greeting you with open arms and a story that draws you in; be sure you have a comfy chair and a cool drink, because you are in for a sweet summer getaway.

Bite Me
by
Shelly Laurenston
tsteinerid
, May 17, 2014
3.5 Stars This novel had it all; romance, comedy, action, and a touch of craziness. All things that should have made up a great novel, but it was only very good for me. Livy is a straight shooter who doesn’t take any duff from anyone. You bug her; she will knock you on your behind. You are loyal to her; she will have your back and your front. She is a fierce and scary fighter, but also an extremely talented photographer. She is a woman that can be very unpredictable yet you always know where you stand with her. She is an enigma. Vic is a very strong determined man. He has to be since he is a hybrid. With Siberian tiger and Grizzly coursing through him, he has to keep himself in constant check. He is also a man that has conquered his beasts. He knows his buttons and how to avoid them from being pushed. Vic is also a man who loves his honey and he has a constant unwanted guest eating it all. Livy. The basis of the story is actually quite complex and detailed. It starts with a funeral and ends with a wedding. Family comes to NY in droves and the action is carried all the way to Russia and back. Ms. Laurenston has built a crazy story around an even crazier set of families. Bite Me was a very multi-faceted storyline. I enjoyed seeing old friends, but Ms. Laurenston is great with that. This community of shifters is all intertwined and I adore their interactions. I had several instances of where I had to stop reading because I was laughing too hard. I love that about her writing. I also had moments of shock and dismay. I met some interesting family dynamics this time around. The Kowalaski’s, Yangs’s, and Barinov’s really know how to have fun, fight and make each other completely miserable. They are all handfuls and together in the same room…potentially disastrous and deadly. So back the rating. Something didn’t click for me. The special Shelly spark was not there 100%. Maybe it was too much family or too much side storyline. While separately they were fantastic, together it was just too much. I was left wanting more of Vic and Livy. I have always enjoyed Ms. Laureston’s writing when it came to her couples. She has an amazing talent and it shows when she brings total opposites together. While the chemistry was out of this world, I just didn’t get enough of them. That is why this rating is hard for me. Very solid story, writing was superb and the laughs were true belly laughs, but… I’m very glad to have watched this couple come together. Many unresolved issues from prior novels were wrapped up and I loved meeting the new characters in this world. Bite me is a very good story, but not the strongest in the series. Well worth the read, but not my favorite.

Darkness Rises

, May 12, 2014
4.5 Stars I have followed this series from the start. I absolutely fell in love with the guardians and I’m totally surprised it took me this long to pick up the next installment in the series. I forgot about the joy they gave me; the wonder in the writing and dimension of the storyline. Absolutely brilliant. Krysta is yet another wonderfully strong and resilient woman to join the group. She is tough, kick-butt and as stubborn as they come. She is also the perfect match for Etienne. Etienne is a young immortal, by their standards, at two hundred years. For centuries he has fought alongside his two siblings, but now there is a new force in town. She makes his blood heat and well other things. No one can understand what has happened to Etienne to make him seem distant and withdrawn, but he knows. Now if he can just figure out how to protect her from herself and have her in his bed. Unknown to the immortals, danger is back. They must band together to fight an enemy they thought they defeated. Only they are the last to know that the game has changed. Unfortunately there are even more things to protect, but together they can conquer. Ms. Duvall has written an amazing story. She has consistently written solid plots and engaging characters. All of this while keeping secrets tight to her chest and making me love and want the series more and more. Her stories are filled with action, humor, intrigue and romance. This is definitely not your grandma’s bodice ripper. It is also not a blush worthy, read it in secret, erotic romance. It’s a perfect blend of genres. Something everyone can enjoy. Darkness Rises is a wonderful read. It is fast paced and makes you want to read “one more chapter”, time and time again. Regrettably, I do think you need to read all of the stories in the series before this novel. I just can’t fathom someone enjoying this book as much as someone who knows the characters and is invested in them. This is a tight knit group and the past couples are written throughout the book. I will say that if you love a good vampire novel then you won’t be dissatisfied. Darkness Rises didn’t disappoint me and I will keep coming back for more. I can’t wait for the next installment, Night Unbound.

4.5 Stars. We have reached the end. This is the final book in the Deadglass Trilogy. I will say this one is my favorite. Lady Lucia has played a major role in the series and her part is really just beginning. In this story we get to watch her grow even more. She is a lovely woman and I was cheering her along her journey from the first page. Emory Corbette, hmmm I can honestly say he shocked me many times; some good and some made me want to beat him to death…slowly. He also had a very interesting journey. Did it make up for how I felt about him? The jury is still out. Their world has fallen to a great foe; one that was thought to have been stopped, but not contained. The time of the prophecy has begun. Lucia and Emory must battle themselves and each other to conquer the world’s greatest enemy and ensure the fulfillment of the prophecy. Their trials were, at times, personal and very painful. Together they endured because their people need the light of the Crane, now more than ever in this time of darkness. NON STOP ACTION!! I was amazed at how much these two people had to endure and Ms. Brady kept me turning the pages. I couldn’t put this story down. Excellent storytelling! I was disappointed that the prior main characters in the other two stories played little or no roles in this final novel, but I really was too busy soaking it all up not to notice until I had a moment to think about it. Since I did read the last two novels of the trilogy a day apart, I was also frustrated with the transition between the two. The two timelines didn’t match up, but don’t let that small detail stop you from enjoying the captivating action, tension filled romance and creative plot. Hearts of Chaos is beautifully detailed and gripping and is perfect for readers who want more than just romance in their books.

4.5 Stars I will say that I’m sorry that I took so long to read this book. It had the perfect blend of romance (though it took long for them to finally get together), action and storyline. Grace Mercer is a woman with an incomplete past. Her parents were killed when she was young and then she was unwillingly embroiled into the paranormal world. She is now a woman with a mission; complete her contract as a blood slave and move the heck on. Leif Asgard never wanted to be a ruler. He is a scientist and loner. After the death of his brother, he was put into a role he never wanted and responsibilities he never desired. That was until he felt the pull of certain blood slave bond. Now he has a purpose and her name is Grace. Confusing attraction, a world sent back to the Stone Age, backstabbing dealings and a demigod on a mission will have you on the edge of your seat. Grace and Leif have a landscape of landmines to transverse and enemies to watch. It is a time when you have to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Can Grace and Leif handle everything thrown at them and get past their own barriers to heal each other’s souls? The first story in the trilogy Hearts of Darkness was a mixed bag for me. I really loved the story telling, but I found inconsistencies that took me out of the story. It still was a great book to read. Hearts of Shadows was a home run for me. I really do wish that I would have read it sooner. I loved Grace and Leif and together, they were brilliant. Ms. Brady has built an amazing world and wonderful characters. I truly believe that lovers of romance, paranormal and urban fantasy will equally enjoy Hearts of Shadow. It’s a breath of fresh air to the paranormal genre with its unique plot and amazing story telling. The story isn’t a standalone though. If you jumped right in on it, you wouldn’t be totally lost, but there are several references to the prior book and trust me you will want to know how “the event” occurred. In fact, the trilogy is now actually complete and you can get all three of them into your hot little hands as we speak. I’m going to start right away on the final book, Hearts of Chaos, but there were two characters that were mentioned in this book that have a prequel short story, Hearts of Fire, that I may have to read first. Great job Ms. Brady! It is unbelievable that this is only her second book. WOW she is going to have an amazing career if she keeps this up. She writes fantastic worlds and knows how to capture a reader. Read the Deadglass Trilogy today!

First things first…The cover totally represents the characters and a scene in a book. It’s so nice to have a cover that actually depicts the characters right down to what they wear and the color of their hair. With the close of The Chosen, The Legend Chronicles, is a wrap. From the first page to the last, there was action, suspense and romance. I do have to say that I’m glad it is complete. I liked The Chosen. The story as a whole finished the trilogy nicely. Closure is very good. There were some issues for me, but they were likely personal. I am just not sure of the whole steampunk genre. It doesn’t do anything for me. I thought it would, but nope - nadda. This story takes us on the journey of the final brother, Remington. He is the middle son. He is studious and a thinker. He is also on the fence about fighting the Darkin. He has found a nice balance between his law practice and his occasional hunting. He is teamed up with an old flame of his younger brother, Colt. Their first encounter is of him posing as her lawyer to get her out of jail. From then on, the action is pretty much nonstop. China is hell in pants and boots. She has held a torch for the youngest Jackson son for a very long time. Yet, he abandoned her to rot in a jail cell. She begins to question her choices in life from the very moment she meets Remington. Torn between two worlds, she is uncertain who to trust and what truths to tell. She has her own personal journey; one that will take her to hell and back again. The three stories ran concurrent to each other; for that alone, I would recommend reading the trilogy all at once. Yes, you will have areas that will be repeated from a separate point of view, but I think I would have appreciated the adventure more than I did. I would have had “aha” moments that would have clarified the scene, rather than, dang that seems a bit familiar, and it bugs me. During the final chapters of The Chosen, the brothers (The Chosen) are reunited to take on the final evil. Can they fulfill the prophesy and save the world? You know what you will have to do to find out. One thing I really enjoyed about the book was that Ms. Meyers does a fine job writing in real life events and it really shows she did her research. At the end, she states the events and how they related to the book. I also appreciated that she included a short story about a fun character in the book. While I was excited about the short, it fell short for me. We know the ultimate ending, so the huge gap from the ending of the short to the actual outcome of events was missing. It was the main reason I was excited to read it; to find out how the end really happened. Opportunity lost in my opinion. So all in all, The Legend Chronicles was a decent series. I think fans of steampunk will appreciate the stories more than I did and I would happily recommend them to them.

3.5 Stars. Forsaken by the Others is not a book that reads as a standalone. People who pick it up should most definitely be up to date and ready to jump right in. It starts right from where Stalking the Others ends. If you have not read any of the other books in the H&W Investigations series…Do Not Pass Go. Turn right around and get caught up first. I apologize right from the start. This might be a spoiler and trust me I’m not a fan of them, but you can read any other review and it was said long before me; no, no, and NO!! I was glad I missed the cliffhanger from one of the prior books, because I was late to the series and had to play catch-up. I’m very disappointed that this one ended in yet another one. Cliff hangers are not cool, especially when another book is not even on the horizon yet and this book was about a year from the last one. This was my biggest complaint, but I have other points that bugged me. Leave me wanting, but not like this. While I enjoyed the book, there was very little forward movement in the plot. Yes, you seen a bit of Shiarra’s “problem” manifest, but no reasons why or what. Yes, a character is healed, but we didn’t even know there was a problem to begin with. So she hid out in California. Not sure if I really understand the reasoning, but there we are. Now she is there and it seems none of the issues in New York are going to be resolved and she has left TONS of them behind. Several factions were introduced and I feel they were barely utilizes to their fullest potential. I can pretty much say that most of the main characters are new additions and seem to be sticking around for a while. Not sure how I feel about that yet. I missed the “oldies” and wanted to read more about them. Bummer. Shiarra actually transgressed in her kick-ass heroine status in my opinion. She was rather weak and well “human” in the beginning novels. She rocked my world in the last one, but after all is said and done; we are back to square one. I will say that she is coming off a very traumatic month and anyone would curl up into a little introspective ball, but she was so darn awesome last book. Again " Bummer. I know it sounds like I didn’t like the novel, I did enjoy the read, but in its addition to the series, I didn’t. Some good points are that we got to see what happened with Royce. Sara and Shiarra are reunited, along with some memorable White Hats. The story clipped right along. There were also some scenes that had me chucking. I really love when a book makes me laugh. Ms. Haines wrote a great book, but left me wanting. I really hope we see progression in the next novel. I’m still looking forward to next book. I hope the wait isn’t too long. I really enjoy her writing style and the H&W Investigations series. This is the kind of urban fantasy that I enjoy; fantastic paranormal world setting, interesting characters and amazing storytelling. Keep it up Ms. Haines!

AS TWILIGHT FALLS

3.5 Stars. What if vampires were relegated to live in a town to follow certain rules and were not allowed to leave? Some might think it would be a good plan to keep humans safe, but what of the human in the town. As Twilight Falls tell one such story. Driving into Morgan Creek was a simple mistake on Kadie’s part. One wrong turn, low on gas and late at night were just a few of her problems. From the moment she ventures into the town she knows something is off. The vibes she gets are off the charts wrong and the sudden appearance of Darrick does nothing to ease her feelings. It doesn’t take long for Kadie to realize she is trapped in Morgan Creek and the residents don’t hold back on letting her know what is expected of her. They also fill her in on the mysterious head vampire, Rylan Saintcrow. Luckily he hasn’t been seen in a long while, because the women he takes interest in disappear forever. Suddenly awake after decades of rest, Rylan is drawn to a new presence in town. From the moment Kadie enters his territory, he knows he wants her for his own. Even Darrick’s claim on the girl will not stop him from having her. Things have changed in his town since he went to ground. The vampires are restless and the humans are not content. He never cared about the human’s happiness before Kadie, but now he is seeing things differently. Times have changed and now he must change too. As Twilight Falls was a good story. Ms. Ashley has built a unique town and interesting characters. While it was not perfect for me it was a nice change in my usual paranormal reading material. The novel is more storytelling and sweet romance and less erotic than my normal reads. This will interest many readers. I can’t quite put my finger what was missing from the novel to make it great for me, but as a whole, the story was nicely written. Another very important point for this book, it reads as a standalone novel. The story is wrapped up and complete, with a nice ending that leaves you gratified. What a wonderful change in the world of serial novels. Pick up As Twilight Falls if you enjoy standalone novels, unique paranormal storytelling, romance that focuses on the relationship more than the bed play and the writings of Amanda Ashley. She has written an enjoyable classic vampire novel.

Honey Pie

Two loners are drawn together. Dylan is a long time resident of Sweetberry and Honey stumbled into town in a broken down VW bug and a dream. Neither seen what was coming their way. If they did, both would have run in separate directions. Honey has taken her Aunt Beavis’ advice; “Love yourself enough to give it a true and honest chance”. She packs up her VW Bug and travels from Oregon to Georgia only to find her dreams crushed. The new start she was promised has a great big road block set in her way. The apartment and new shop she has planned to open has been leased from under her. Though she now owned the property, her hands are tied. Now thousands away from her safe haven, she is homeless, carless, jobless and clueless to where to start. Dylan is not a stranger to turmoil. Father, uncle and brother were all negative components in Dylan’s live and after ten years of freedom from the chaos, he doesn’t desire the pull that a certain Ms. Honey has on him. With her odd behavior and personal life in a mess, he does his best to stay away, but not for long. Usually Sweetberry residents are more involved in the formation of budding of romance, but this time Honey and Dylan found it themselves. Each are alone and prefer it that way. One wants to come out and finally get involved in life and the other would rather stay hidden and not deal with the BS of people. They see their similarities and there is a special draw to each other. With a little personal work and enlightenment they have the potential of something great. Honey Pie is one sweet treat! I really loved the feeling of this book. Even though the potential of drama was high, Ms. Kauffman thankfully didn’t go down this road. Yes, there was drama, but it had a natural feeling to it. Both of these characters had some major baggage, but once their minor hurdles where conquered they accepted their fate. Throw in a few insecurities and a sweet love story was told. Personally, I think if you read Honey Pie as a standalone you wouldn’t like it as much as a series novel. The story alone wouldn’t have been as fun without the background of the other characters. Even though they took the third row of back seats in the party van, knowing their stories made little things more special. The Cupcake Club series is great and simply delightful. Sweet romance, light humor and a feeling of community that makes you want to join the fun. I have enjoyed every one of these novels and I can’t wait for the next installment.

The Chosen One: The Dream Series

The Chosen One starts immediately where Be Careful What You Wish For ends. In The Man of My Dreams you read about Alexi and Cassandra’s beginning. In Be Careful What You Wish For you learn about an unknown history that is beginning to wind around Alexi and Cassandra, tightening ever so slowly and in The Chosen One all the roads converge into a grand battle. I have very mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed reading about what happened to Cassandra, but I also felt overwhelmed. There was too much, too fast in this book. It felt rushed to me. The ending also leaves me wanting. There are rumors of two offshoot novellas to the series, but I cannot locate any information about them. With that said The Chosen One basically ties up the loose ends and has a happy ending, but leaves unresolved issues for me. All in all, the story was fine, but I would have a hard time recommending it without a thorough warning. The Dream series is a very good series with a few issues though. It has a very unique love story, build around a real life legend with a fascinating and frightening history. Even though I have concerns with the final chapter in this series, it was still an enjoyable read for me as a whole. I hope to see more from Ms. Quintal. She is very imaginative and I can see her only getting better with her story telling.

Be Careful What You Wish For

Be Careful What You Wish For continues the love story of Alexi and his human love Cassandra. They are happy in their “normal” life. Alexi feels something is coming, but can’t quite place the feeling. Alexi has settled into his life as a doctor and Cassandra is happy being a mother. Unknown to them, a darkness has fallen upon them and it’s named Sebastian. He is an original evil; a vampire turned by the infamous Countess Dracula. She sent him on a mission several hundred years ago and he is still going strong. Now he has Alexi in his sights. Alexi has broken the rule of falling in love with humans and Sebastian is going to make him pay dearly; starting with his son A.J. I really loved the unique take on the whole vampire lore. Instead of falling back on the usual Dracula legend, Ms. Quintal went with the seldom used historical figure of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Pretty much the first third of the book is backstory about Elizabeth, Sebastian and Alexi. How it all began and how it has progressed throughout the years. While one would think it would get cumbersome, it didn’t. It was fascinating to read Ms. Quintal’s unique take on the Blood Countess. I also enjoyed hearing how Alexi came to be. The story progressed nicely and really set the stage for the next book. You started to see that there was something special about A.J. and the new characters introduced were engaging and blended into the story perfectly. I will give you fair warning. This book ends in a humdinger of a cliffhanger. I would have been very upset if book three, The Chosen One, wasn’t already released. Whew! So if you like this book, you best have your credit card warmed and ready, because you will likely be rushing to your computer to get the next in the series. I’m not sure where this story is going, but I can’t wait to find out. Be Careful What You Wish For was a pleasing continuation of The Dreams Series. I’m especially excited that I have book three of the series locked and loaded on my reader.

Dark Wolf
by
Kate Douglas

, April 20, 2013
I’m sitting here reading some reviews for Dark Wolf. Normally I don’t do that, but I was wondering what other people thought. I’m actually glad I did. First off, I think many reviewers read the beginning of the memo that stated that this is a new series, but they didn’t read the whole thing. Dark Wolf is actually a continuation of the first generation of Chanku. It’s now the babies of the packs turn for happiness. The first series, Wolf Tales, really set the stage and there seemed to be some confusion when they were reading Dark Wolf. Yes, Ms. Douglas fills you in on why things are happening, but I think all the varieties of sex turned many people off. They didn’t have a complete history. Chanku are a race of shapeshifters that have extremely high libidos. It is in their DNA; they love everyone in the pack because that is how they were created. They are not human, so they do not act as humans. Period. It is practically a requirement of their being. They need sex like they need air. It is their power and way of life. To say they have too much sex is boggling to a longtime fan of this series. Yes, I say longtime fan of THIS series, even though this is the first in the new Spirit Wild. I think to truly appreciate Dark Wolf you need to know Lily as a child and also learn what really happened in the beginning. Wolf Tales takes you all the way to the beginning to when they didn’t even really know who or what they were. You grow with the pack. You love, live, and cry right along with them on their journey of discovery. You miss that when you read Dark Wolf and can’t understand the whole significance of their existence. When I heard that Ms. Kate was doing a series about the next generation I was scared and excited. These adults were babies when I last read about them. Now in their thirties, I had to wrap my head around it. Babies don’t have sex! I bet Ms. Douglas had an even harder time. These were her actual babies and she had to put them into sexual situations that would make any mother cringe. She did a fabulous job and she should be proud of herself. In Dark Wolf, we get to revisit the pack and actually get to see more than one romance blossom. While at first I was disappointed because I loved the other character and I wanted them to have their own story, but I’m happy with the direction she took. It almost mimics their parents love affairs, but it was still their own. Now I will admit that I’m extremely thrilled about the next story, Dark Moon. I’ve wanted to know more about Igmutaka from when he first came onto the scene. I think I just got chills. There is just something about that hunk of man. That cougar makes me purrrrrrr. I would recommend Dark Wolf to any lover of Wolf Tales in an instant. I would also recommend it to new readers, but go in with an open mind. If you read Dark Wolf and think, “Hmmm, I kinda like this”. Then start from the beginning. Trust me it’s worth it. The Chanku are a fascinating species with hearts full of love and understanding. We could all use more Chanku in the world.

If Hes Tempted Wherlockes 27

4.5 Stars In my opinion, If He’s Tempted is a nice change from the normal historical. With a touch of the paranormal, a dastardly evil villain and steamy sexual undercurrents, I enjoyed myself from start to finish. The Wherlocke / Vaughn family have been outcasts for many generations. They sit on the edge of society; actively participating, but weary of the ton. Lady Olympia became a widow at a very young age and doesn't allow the ton dictate her comings and goings and when someone weaker asks for help, she is the first to help. Though she knew helping the young Lady Agatha could cause her problems, she didn't know the extent of the evil involved. She also didn't expect to have feelings blossom for Lady Agatha’s brother, Lord Brant Mallam. She has never felt the urges she experiences when she is around him. With no experience to fall back on, she is excited and apprehensive to follow through. But first they need to save his sister. Lord Brant is a man filled with so much guilt; he is basically drowning in it. He recently discovered that his betrothed didn't leave him for another man, but was sold to a brothel and killed. He doesn't know how he can rise above it all. Now he is slowly discovering that her death is a long string of crimes showering down upon his head. Nothing is his fault, but his guilt is getting deeper and deeper. His only light is Lady Olympia. She is bound and determined to fix all the wrongs and he will be by her side to help her, even if it kills him. It is the least that he can do since he has allowed these crimes to go on for so long. The evil deeds keep piling up and time is of the essence. How to you bring down a prominent person in society, without ruining the innocent members of the family? With the help of Lady Olympia’s family they are making progress, but in the final fight all might be lost. We can only hope these two lost souls are strong enough to persevere. For me, historicals can sometimes be ordinary. They are still fun to read, but they tend to be the same thing; headstrong heroines and rakish heroes, who find true love while circumventing the brutality of the ton. If He’s Tempted is all that and much more. You got a villain that is utterly shocking in their evilness, a ragtag family that is filled with every no-no known to society and two extremely determined people trying to find the truth. If He’s Tempted is a big improvement from the last installment in the series, If He’s Dangerous. I expected more from Argus Wherlocke’s book and Ms. Howell didn't deliver for me. She more than made up for it with Olympia’s story. I've been enjoying her presence for several books, and it was wonderful that she got a strong plot and a great man too. It was also nice to get Olympia’s backstory. Wow, and what a shocker. I didn't expect it at all. I am very pleased with If He’s Tempted. I have renewed faith in the Wherlocke series and will be waiting patiently for the next installment. This is a very big wonderfully exceptional family with many stories to tell. They are a breath of fresh air in the stuffy world of the ton.

Sinner's Heart

3.5 Stars The final battle is to be fought. Can the Hellraisers be saved or are they lost to hell because of their countless sins? Livia initially brought the Devil to our realm centuries ago and she paid the ultimate price to return him, death. She has been a constant nuisance to the Hellraisers from the very beginning. She has saved James, the Earl of Whitney and Leo Bailey from the Devil’s trap, but will she be able to save Bram, Lord Rothwell? And will it be enough to send the Devil back to hell? Bram is a lover and a fighter. He has been cutting a wide path through the women of London, seducing them with his looks, charm and his special gift bestowed upon him from the Devil, the gift of persuasion. In an act to stop the Devil from giving Bram more gifts Livia threw herself in front of Bram and now they are bound together. Two like souls, who would rather be anywhere but stuck together. Livia knows she needs to convince Bram to help, but when he has always only been for himself, he will be a hard one to convince. Their bond is the key. It shows these two who the real person is inside; all the good and the bad. Let’s just hope that there is time to save London and the world. Sacrifices are made and loyalties are tested. I was shocked to discover, at the end of Demon’s Bride, that not all five of the men would be getting their own books, but I really liked the direction Ms. Archer took. She has kept me guessing and I was equally stunned that this is the final book of the series. She has continuously kept me on my toes and I never knew what she was going to put in front of me. I like reading the unknown. Sinner’s Heart finished out The Hellraisers series very well and Ms. Archer should be proud of herself. She has written a paranormal series that was unique and engaging. She introduced characters that I loved to hate and the strong women who made them human again. Sinner’s Heart is filled with historical elements that don’t over take the novel; with a distinctive paranormal feel and a dash of steamy sexiness. If those elements intrigue you, you may enjoy falling into Ms. Archer’s Hellraisers world.

Surprising Lord Jack

One bad choice can ruin the lives of two people. Neither is at fault, but the circumstances have just become dire. There is no time to waste, call in the Duchess of Love. Frances never plans to marry. She has seen firsthand that marriage not for her, but her aunt thinks otherwise. Now that she knows what her aunt has planned, she is off to fix this and to keep her independence. Problem is, though she has managed a rather large estate on her own and is quite intelligent, she is but a woman and she must disguise herself for her trip to London to collect her dowry. Best way to do it…dressed as a man. Jack doesn't need nor does he desire marriage, so the moment one pursuer gets a little too close and is a bit too determined, he runs for the hills. Well actually, it is the local inn for the time being, because the winter storm is too treacherous for night travel. As he runs from one entanglement, he unknowingly runs smack dab into the middle of another. To top things off, he doesn't even like the woman that he may have to marry. Time to call in reinforcements; they must find a way out of this mess and soon. If rumors spread, they will both be ruined. There has to be a way out of this. The work is slow, but with perseverance and a lot of help, they may be able to get out of this unattached. Getting out of their possible marriage isn't their only concern though. There are murders occurring in town and Frances is a prime target. Jack must work on repairing their damaging circumstances and keep her safe. When all is said and done, can he protect her and his heart? There is something about this series. The characters are enjoyable, the plots are unique and the Duchess is a keeper. Ms. MacKenzie does a great job bringing it all together into heartwarming stories that keep you amused and makes you want more. Surprising Lord Jack had sad touching moments and then the next I was smiling ear to ear; never a dull moment. Surprising Lord Jack is fun, sweet and extremely entertaining. I can’t wait for the next installment to this series. Ms. MacKenzie is an author that rarely disappoints and can always be counted on for a delightful escape.

How to Seduce an Angel in 10 Days

How to Seduce an Angel in 10 Days is an entertaining addition to the 10 Days series. Tally is having a crappy life. She is a loser in love, a pariah to her people and now a parolee. She has ten days to prove she is worthy of a second chance. Ten long days to be cooped up with a male that has always owned her heart, but has always viewed her as a little sister. Ten days to show that she doesn’t deserve to go to hell and that she can change. Ten days for her life to be altered forever. Falcon is having a crappy life too. One awry fireball and now he’s Cupid; diaper and all. How can a man who doesn’t believe in love be forced to spread love around? He doesn’t understand it. But that is what his life has become; living in pastels and sparkles. It’s all he can do to prove he is still a manly man. He is now being forced into the position of parole officer to a woman he has always desired. He didn’t think his life could get worse, but it may have. How can a Crown Prince of Heaven slake his desire for the one woman he always wanted when it is a big no-no? Dang, being a Prince isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Their ten days together is a learning experience for both of them. It is full of revelations and discoveries, desires and disappointments. These two troubled souls will defy what is expected of them and will discover what love is all about. While I rate this the same as the prior book, How to Marry a Warlock in 10 days, I have to say I may have actually liked it more. There was less “bahaha” funny and had more depth in the plot. I like the slight direction change that Ms. DeWylde has decided to take. It was very nicely balanced and reads very smoothly. How to Seduce an Angel is wonderful light read with tons of heart. I especially like that we were visited by prior characters and their stories were intertwined a bit. Not in an overpowering way, but I can feel that Ms. DeWylde is setting up future novels. I am definitely adding the 10 Days series to my must read list. I have enjoyed everything about them. These novels have a lighthearted feeling to them along with whimsical humor, practical plots and appealing characters; a winning combination! This is a vividly entertaining series.

My Lord Immortality

Alexandra Ivy

, April 01, 2013
My Lord Immortality wraps up the Immortal Rogues trilogy very well. In the final chapter of this trilogy we meet Amelia and Sebastian. Amelia is an amazing woman that has decided to take a different road than the expected. Rather than marry well and live the society life, she decides to take care of her mentally challenged brother. She leaves the life she knows and builds a stable home for him in the more affordable, seeder part of London. William keeps Amelia constantly busy, but she enjoys and loves him dearly. Her main concern is keeping him safe, but one night when she is trying to locate him after one of his late night jaunts her life changes forever. Sebastian is not really sure if he is up for the job of guardian. He is a scholar first and is unsure how he can protect his charge. His feelings change the moment he first protects her. There is a pull within him. She draws him out of his norm and brings him back to life. He hasn’t felt this way in centuries and he’s not too sure if he likes it. He must do his duty to his people, but his heart is telling him Amelia means much more to him. Sebastian must protect Amelia against the traitor Drake. Unknown to Sebastian there are other forces working against him. This is evil’s last chance at the amulets and they are starting to get desperate. The time has come for the final showdown. I would like to say that the story is different from the others but it really isn’t. While every story was slightly different, they were just too similar to me; same template, different names. But considering that the trilogy evolved around three maidens, three guardians and their chore of protecting the amulets; potential plots are very limited. Ms. Ivy did pick some wonderfully strong women though. Each and every one of them have qualities that are not normal for their times and for me, they made the stories. The vampire universe that Immortal Rogues entails is very sedate. These are not sexually charged men. Their lusts have been dormant for too long. In My Lord Immortality there is no sex and very little sexual tension with only a few kissing scenes. I would not feel bad letting a teenager or my grandma read this book. With that being the case, the cover is very misleading. It screams " sexy road ahead and it did not deliver. My Lord Immortality is one of the least sexual stories that I have read in a long time. I have read YA’s with more romance. Doesn’t mean that it is a bad thing either, but I think it would have enhanced the story. The plot was very one dimensional and it needed some special nuances to make it shine. My Lord Immortality is an average read for me. I would only recommend it to people who like their romance light and the plot even lighter. I will say though that it is nice to have the whole storyline complete. Ms. Ivy wrapped it up quickly but nicely. There are no loose ends and I can’t see this world being revisited. It is a complete package. NOTE: These novels are being rereleased under their original titles. They were originally published in early 2000’s.

Wolf with Benefits

, March 30, 2013
4.5 Stars First off. I do not love this book because my name is Toni….*smiles*…I love it because it is kick butt funny, has endearing crazy characters and a twisted new plot. So why wouldn’t I love it! Toni may not be a progeny, but there is no one that can manage her family better. With ten siblings, yes ten, she has her hands full. As the oldest in this jackal family she tends to ensure the safety, security and all around wellbeing of each and every one of them. She adores them all and is willing to give up her own happiness to make sure they are happy and well taken care of. Well about her? She needs to let go and find happiness, but it might be the hardest and scariest thing she has ever done. Ricky Lee is the epitome of laid back. Don’t underestimate him, but with a rather serious older brother and a prankster younger brother, he tends to be in the middle in most things. When he first sees Toni’s wild untamed curls all he wants to do is run his hands through them. The problem is she has little linebackers guarding her and they don’t want his interference. Ricky Lee is not deterred. He loves a challenge and he may have just found one in this little she-jackal. Once Toni gets the boot out of her home to go find her own life, she is unexpectedly shackled to a persistent wolf. He fires her up and is unsure what to do about it. She has stubborn bears to negotiate with, siblings to fret over and danger everywhere she goes. On second thought, he actually might just be the fix she needs to help calm her down. Why isn’t it perfect that he is all ready to help her out? What a prince! Toni was an unexpected pleasure. She’s a character that I think most moms would be able to relate to. She is the go to person for everything her family needs and is constantly being pulled in every direction. I loved her. Ricky Lee is her complete opposite, but exactly what she needs. Ms. Laurenston did a great job uniting these two. Ms. Laurenston is known for her scorching romance, but in Wolf with Benefits it was late in coming. On one side I was disappointed, but on the other I enjoyed the journey that these two lovers endured. My disappointment ended there and trust me, she more than makes up for it. She brought back a few prior characters, wrote an intriguing plot and once they started burning up the sheets…whoa! I will have to mention that she wrote some “monsters” that will have you cringing and laughing. They are bunch of selfish little buggers you want to smack and hug in the same moment. If you like Ms. Laurenston’s work you won’t be disappointed. She has written a solid book. From beginning to end, I had a blast. Fair warning though, this is book #8 in the Pride series. I think it could be read alone, but to get the full benefit of the humor, history and essence of the novel; I think you shouldn’t jump start with Wolf with Benefits. I have yet to read one of her books that I couldn’t put down. Laurenston is pure bliss for me.

The Cupcake Club makes me want to pack my bags and head to southern Georgia. Where the water is warm and the men are hot. Kit has lost everything, so she takes a chance on a position that a friend thinks she will be perfect for. Turns out she is. Kit jumps at the chance for a huge change in her life, but she really has nothing else to lose. The only reservation she has is the other new person in town, Morgan Westlake. He just happens to be related to the very people who helped ruin her life. Can they live together in the same small community? Morgan seems to think so. Morgan is interested in the mystery of Kit from the first faded smile on her lovely face. There is just something that fascinates him about her and he will get past every brick wall she seems to be building. Unknown to him though, the whole town is rooting for these two and will be helping him along. Sugarberry is the place to go for fresh starts and happiness. With its eclectic townsfolk and their ability to pull you in, you can’t help but open your heart. I get to meet two new people in the third installment of Babycakes. Each have come to town for different reasons, but have many things in common. Ms. Kauffman did a wonderful job helping me connect with both of them and also helped me reconnect with this great little town. It maybe fictional, but I would visit Sugarberry in a flash. The buildup of their relationship was well paced and how the town embraced and helped heal them both made it all the more special. I have enjoyed the Cupcake Club series from the very beginning. It is a feel good series, with sexy romance, true friendships and heart healing love. It will make you smile, your heart beat and laugh out load. You can’t beat a book that will wrap around your soul and snuggle you tight. Tasty reading at its best!

Season for Surrender
by
Theresa Romain

, March 24, 2013
3.5 Stars With a proper woman who wants to be wicked and a scandalous man trying to be noble, things are going to get very interesting this season. During Louisa’s first season, she got engaged, broke the betrothal and then survived a scandal. Now she is tired of being the proper maiden. She desires some adventure, so she decides to accept Lord Xavier’s invitation to his infamous Christmas house party. With her handy list in hand, she is ready to take his manor by storm. Alex has always tried to be what others expected of him. Be it womanizer, gambler or all around wicked rake he has it covered. That is all he has ever known; how to play a part to convince everyone around him, even his family, that he is content in his station. After a disastrous bet with his cousin, he decides he has to change the whole hedonistic feel of his annual house party. While his guests are ready to expect the unexpected, they will be surprised to experience a quiet uneventful (safe) holiday away from the bustle of London. It’s too bad that his guests have something else in mind. Season for Surrender is a pleasantly sweet historical romance. It has a touch of spice, a spunky heroine and a seemingly innocent house party gone awry. I met Louisa in a prior novel by Ms. Romain, Season for Temptation. Even though the circumstances of her downfall were not her own, I’m so glad how she handled it with dignity and grew from the experience. I adore the woman she has become and I’m thrilled that Ms. Romain has continued with her story. In my opinion, you can read this story alone, but Season for Temptation is just as sweet and entertaining as Season for Surrender. Ms. Romain did a great job with both Louisa and Alex’s characters. You can see how they are made for each other and I loved how Louisa kept surprising Alex and his house guests. She is a gem. She also did a great job with Alex. You could see how he is deliciously wicked, but you could also see the heart he didn’t even know he had. The supporting cast was just as enjoyable. They were quirky, lively and rich. They also didn’t overpower the plot, but enhanced it beautifully. While I’m not 100% sure, but I can see Alex’s cousin getting the next story if Ms. Romain decides to continue these books. Jane is a little spitfire and I can see some great adventures in her future and a few grey hairs for Alex. Season for Surrender is a very pleasant historical. If you like your books with a touch of steam, but not overly naughty and characters that are fun and make you want to root for them; you will likely enjoy this novel. Ms. Romain has done it again with Season for Surrender; she has taken the holiday season and made it even more amusing and delightful.

Phantom Shadows

4.5 Stars Phantom Shadows in the third book in the Immortal Guardians series. Ms. Duvall’s vampire world is action packed and filled with deliciously sexy immortals. Need I say more? Bastien could be a poster child for bad boys; gorgeous, angry, misunderstood and tortured. Man you gotta love them bad boys! For the last two years, he has been working with the Immortal Guardians. All of his existence has been trying to destroy them, so it’s understandable that they are leery of him and would rather see him die a painful violent death. His view on the situation…bring it on boys! Melanie has watched how the immortals have treated Bastien and she is confused. While she has seen the bad side of him, she has also seen the good. She might not understand why everyone hates him, but she is more curious with how much she desires him. Following her feelings, she needs to figure out how to convince him that he is worthy of her attention. Their blossoming romance may be the last thing they should be developing right now, but it is exactly what they both need. The battle Bastien started years ago is escalating and needs to be stopped before all hell breaks loose. The immortals need to let the past go and Bastien needs to look towards the future and Melanie just needs to survive. Can these three sides find a way to bring it all together and save all they know and cherish? I’m always game for a great vampire story and Ms. Duvall doesn’t disappoint. Her vampires have humor and brawn and for me that is a perfect combination. In this third novel, we get to see the other side of the resident black sheep, Bastien. I could tell from earlier books in the series that he was not what he seemed and I couldn’t wait to read more about him. I really enjoyed the development of Bastien and the view that he really is “human” and cares deeply and will likely love even deeper. I’m not sure if I would consider Phantom Shadows a standalone book. Both the prior novels are referenced often and when I went back to reread a scene that I forgot, I realized how intertwined the novels are. Ms. Duvall has done a great job with continuity and storytelling and I believe this series should be read in order. Phantom Shadows is a fantastic addition to a richly developed series. The action is exhilarating and the love scenes are heart pounding. This is top notch reading and high quality paranormal world building. So grab the Immortal Guardians series with both hands and hold on tight. These guys really know how to take you on a ride of your life!

A Perfect Knight for Love
by
Jackie Ivie

, March 22, 2013
3.5 Stars A hero who doesn’t act quite like a hero and a heroine who isn’t what she seems. Two people from different words are fighting their own private battles, but together they are stronger. Amalie doesn’t want what she was born into, so she runs away. Before she can get to where she needs to be she is kidnapped, gagged and then hand fasted. This wasn’t the adventure she expected. Thayne’s time is running out. The woman he has always loved had married someone else and now he has failed to save her. In the middle of all this, a bonnie lass has fallen right into his arms. Too bad he couldn’t keep her quiet, because now he is married to a woman he doesn’t know and barely likes. He also has to deal with a brother who is always a handful and he has a broken betrothal to mend. You would think life would be easier being the second born. A Perfect Knight for Love was an average read for me. It was enjoyable but only slightly engaging. While the story was interesting, it didn’t grab me wholeheartedly. The characters were pleasant, but I couldn’t fall in love with them and I’m a girl who loves her highland men. Thayne was just passable for me. Even though he had lots to contend with, there were times I just didn’t feel him. Amalie had moments of brilliance and then other times she was just okay. I also thought the brother and his wife could have been nastier. The plot around them had so much potential, but fell abruptly. All in all that is how most of the story worked. There was a buildup and momentum and then it leveled out. No heart pounding excitement or cringe worthy scenes. I will say though that there are some great scenes in the book that made A Perfect Knight for Love very entertaining. I would recommend A Perfect Knight for Love for an easy relaxing read. It’s a pleasant story and a nice escape, but doesn’t take over your life. It’s perfect for when you need a break and don’t have the time to be totally engrossed into a book. You get some sweet highlander loving and can travel to Scotland to where the men were brutal and pleasurable at the same time; just how we like them.

How to Drive a Dragon Crazy
by
G. a. Aiken
tsteinerid
, March 17, 2013
By now most of the civilized world knows that Shelly Laurenston is G.A. Aiken, or is it G.A. Aiken is Shelly Laurenston, anyhow…you know this woman can write wit and humor like a pro. Well she does it again with the next installment of The Dragon Kin series, How to Drive a Dragon Crazy. I think if you’ve been following this series, you’ve probably wanted to know how and when Izzy was going to catch her dragon, Éibhear. Well that book is finally here and I adored it from start to finish. Iseabail the Dangerous, aka Izzy, has earned her name, time and time again. Now she is a General of three legions of the Queen’s army. She has grown up to be a strong independent woman who has no need to be saved or coddled. After ten long years, the dragon who captured her heart and then broke it has returned. She is too busy to deal with him or her feelings when she has a Dragon God breathing down her neck. Éibhear the Contemptible didn’t always have that name. He was once known as Éibhear the Blue. He was the baby brother of the dragon siblings. The most cherished by the women and most tormented by the men. After a tragedy altered Éibhear’s life, he grew up fast and hard. Unable to come to terms with his loss or his anger, he leaves all he knows and becomes an unstoppable warrior of the Mì-runach, the Queen’s most deadly fighters. He has found his destiny or has he? He has been ordered to return home and one look at the woman Izzy has become stops him in his tracks. He must now decide to either become the dragon Izzy needs or remain the warrior he has become. First off, let me say that it is nice to read a really big book sometimes. How to Drive a Dragon Crazy tops out at around 470 pages. In a time when it seems novels are barely 300 pages, this was a pleasant change. Ms. Aiken did a fabulous job keeping me entertained the whole time too. I never knew what she was going to throw at me and I was always on the edge of my seat. The rich detail of Ms. Aiken’s dragon world continues to fascinate me. She does a fabulous job capturing the characters personalities, their dynamic relationships and the nonstop action. How to Drive a Dragon Crazy is brutally graphic and bloody, yet still makes you laugh when someone loses an eye or something else equally important. Not really sure how she does it, but I love it! One would think I’d be turned off from the vivid details of the battle, but it’s so well written I was continually drawn in and could visualize the scene playing out. I also enjoyed the development of Izzy and Éibhear’s relationship. They have been dancing around each other for so many years; it was nice to have them finally get together. While one could say it was abrupt, I could see that it was two matured adults finally able to get past their childish insecurities and misconceptions and take what they wanted. There were no more walls and while they still played games with each other, it was all done in fun and went to prove how they were two halves of one whole. How to Drive a Dragon Crazy is an outstanding addition to The Dragon Kin series. With beautifully described details and heartwarming snark. This novel is reading perfection with amazing characters, tantalizing sex and blood thirsty action. It’s exactly what you’d expect from dragons and the humans that love them.

How to Marry a Warlock in 10 Days

, March 10, 2013
Oh yeah! Aha, now this is what I’m talking about! While I liked How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days, I REALLY liked How to Marry a Warlock. Ms. DeWylde was just warming up before and now she is ready to run with it. Dred Shadowins was the bane of Middy Cherrywood's existence in the Academy. He was the typical boy who tormented girls. He grew into a man that continued to torment them too, but in a *ahem* different way. Middy’s nightly fantasies revolve around Dred, but it is a secret that she guards tightly. He is a womanizing jerk, but after the funding for her next big charity event falls through she must go to him for a very large donation. This is not Middy’s idea of fun. His favorite taunt for her was calling her Cherry-Would-If-She-Could. Now she is all grown up and even though Cherry-Hasn’t, she will not allow him to intimidate her. She needs this for the children and she will endure what he dishes out. Yes, he knows he’s a bastard, but when he sees something he wants he gets it. After witnessing Middy blossom into a stunning woman, Dred wants her. Even though he already planned to donate to the cause, he uses the event to worm his way into her life. Before he could partake of Ms. Middy, circumstances change and now he needs her help. Something else Dred didn’t expect was to become the hunted. Middy is out to have a little taste of the “real” Dred and he’s hard pressed to keep it strictly business. From donator to fiancé, things escalate quickly. He needs to find the conspirators, protect his identity and keep his hands off Middy. Well after a visit to his aunts, he also has to safeguard his heart. Poor, poor Dred. What is a man to do? My first thought about this book, when I was only a few pages in was that this is Harry Potter for adults. I’m not sure if Ms. DeWylde planned it that way, but it worked for me. I was sitting in my reading nook, downright ecstatic. I loved HP and the idea we can see the adult side, had me a very happy camper. For example: when I say Middy’s nightly fantasies revolve around Dred, they really do. Remember how the articles in HP came to life on the page; well in Ms. DeWylde’s version, they actually come to life!! Now take a moment to think on that and the advantage for fantasies! OK, now that I got your attention, How to Marry a Warlock is a very good, saucy read. The humor in the first two thirds of the book was out-and-out hilarious. While it became bit more serious towards the end, it didn’t take away from the story. Laughs were still to be had. How to Marry a Warlock can be read alone. As I said in my prior review, I hoped to see the characters return from the first novel and they did. Not how I expected them to and not as many either, but they helped this story along very nicely. From reading the next blurb for How to Seduce an Angel in 10 Days, I can’t see that being the case. They are prior characters and I can’t imagine reading it without the backstory. You won’t be disappointed, so pick up How to Marry a Warlock and How to Lose a Demon. I’m truly enjoying this new series. Snarky characters, exciting new universe and a winning plot all make up How to Marry a Warlock in 10 Days. It’s a fast and entertaining read that will keep you turning the pages. Be prepared to lose yourself, but you’ll have a great time at it. It’s a marvelous world and I am so glad I visited it. Great job Ms. DeWylde!!

How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days

3.5 Stars - Fun start to what looks to be a great series! Grace is in need of some demon assistance. For four years she has been battling her ex and she has finally decided to call in the big guns. Those so called guns come in the form of one Crown Prince of Hell, Caspian. Oh yummy, yum-yum. The old adage of tall, dark and handsome totally describes Caspian. Oh, you can also throw in sex-on-a-stick and walking wet dream while you are at it. Revenge comes first and then well maybe she can….oh never mind. Anyways, now that she has the ability to fight her ex, Michael, she just has one other thing to do; she must pay Caspian’s price for the contract. Caspian could be called a bit of a show off. When his amazing entrance at his summoning does nothing for the gorgeous woman in front him, he is perplexed and intrigued. Normally women are falling at his feet and this goddess is not even batting an eye at him. Well he knows how he can change that…the terms of the contract. She must sleep with him if she wishes to use him to ruin Michael (imagine Grace doing a private happy dance). Too bad his plan backfires on him and he may be losing more than he planned for. Their attraction is instant and they practically burn up the sheets, but what do you expect from a sizzling gorgeous demon. Caspian can make every one of Grace’s dreams come true and let me just say it is delicious! In the end, is their love making going to be enough for them. Neither believes a life together is possible, but for extremely different reasons. What they didn't know is that there are other forces at play. How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days is different, but not in a bad way what’s so ever. It’s has moments of brilliance, some good laughs and a plot that I have never read before; all that makes it a good “different”. I think I’m unsettled because I think I was expecting more laughs, Michael being tortured more and while the different point of views were nice they became too much. I felt like I was missing out on things even though I was seeing into others perspectives. How to Lose a Demon is a really fun read, but at times the humor just didn't do it for me. But that being said, there is one scene that will forever be burned into my brain. I will forever view the act of getting caught during sex differently!! Ms. DeWylde’s take on it, cracked me the heck up. If she could make that one singular act worse, she did. Those poor lovers *snicker*. Ms. DeWylde’s new series, 10 Days, is a winner. She ranks high in originality for plot and distinctive situations. Her ability to bring it all together is perfect and I’m happy with the final product. I’m just not all tingly and gitty. I’m pleasantly content. After reading the epilogue, I’m not sure if I’ll be seeing these specific characters again, but my fingers are crossed. They were very entertaining and the brought a smile to my face. I do believe she has unlocked a new universe with endless possibilities. 10 Days is a refreshing new take on paranormal. It snatches you from the ordinary and makes paranormal fun again. I’m here for the duration and heading out now to get in line for the next installment, How to Marry a Warlock, out now!

4.5 Stars - Great UF reading! What the heck just happened? Is nothing sacred? Nope, it appears not and you know what…after reading Blood and Magick, I just don’t care! All I can say is DAYUM! This story rolls on out several months after Blood and Silver ends. In my opinion, you cannot read Blood and Magick and get the same WTH response if you don’t enjoy the two prior novels first. I can’t give an opinion on reading the novellas, but I have a feeling they would only improve the experience. Life is calm and relaxing. There is nothing like a quiet evening out with your friends, sharing great times and having a tranquil meal. Your friends are excited about something, but what it is….BAM. Yes, that is the moment the cart bars slam down over your lap and you best hold on tight, because this book is a roller coaster ride to hell. You can almost feel the blood spatter and see the gore. Mr. Tuck doesn’t hold any punches. Like I said, nothing is sacred. I’m not saying this to scare you away. Just be prepared, this hero is a killing machine and the monsters are scary as all get out and evil to boot. Blood and Magick is pure adrenaline reading. For the next, oh ten hours, Deacon and his crew must battle all kinds of creatures. Yes, you read that right, this book spans less than half a day. That is a lot of action packed into a novel. It is nonstop I tell you! I don’t want to give away all the fun, but the central theme for this book is witches, and let me say, they are not of the pointy hat, cackling variety. There are hints of bigger and nastier things to come. How in the world can Mr. Tuck amp this series up more? Beats me! But if anyone can do it, he can. His momentum has built from the very first in the series to this one. My only complaint for the book and the series is Mr. Tuck’s repetitive writing. Be it Deacon’s past or his reactions to situations. This character is amazing and I feel that the repeating of the same emotions and responses takes away from his awesomeness. This offense is minor, but notable to me. For a romance loving girl, the change of pace is amazing. The pacing is fast, the action is bloody and the characters are engaging. I never knew who was going to go down next in the fight, making the unpredictability of the plot, flat out top notch. Mr. Tuck is a fantastic author, an amazing story weaver and a person to watch. Blood and Magick is another winner!

Blood & Silver Deacon Chalk Bounty Hunter 2

In Blood and Bullets, there was a central theme of vampires. In this, we are taking a look at Mr. Tuck’s Were society. All I can say is that I have never experienced a universe like this; it’s action packed and very unique. Deacon is back and he is out with a vengeance. After saving a were-dog, he and his crew have taken it upon themselves to protect the innocent woman. Pregnant and nearly beaten to death, they scramble to find out what is going on in their town. In Were society there are separate rules and laws. The strong prey on the weak and the weaker just take it. To make matters worse, there are two new factions are in town; one of peace and one of power. Together they wreak havoc on Atlanta, and disturb the somewhat quiet calm that the crew has been enjoying for far too long. Now they have to fight a good fight and protect the weaker Were community. But something doesn't seem right and Deacon is just the man to uncover the truth. Mr. Tuck has done it again. Wow!! This was a very high octane ride. It is fast, furious and well written. He doesn't hold anything back, so if you have problems with violence you will not enjoy this book. But come on, look at the cover…Deacon ROCKS the violence. The fighting isn't sugarcoated and this universe is deadly and unpredictable. The Deacon Chalk: Occult Bounty-Hunter series has found its stride. This hero shoots first and asks questions later. No apologies, none what’s so ever. I was drawn in. His voice is very descriptive; from the characters clothing, their surroundings, and especially Deacon’s man toys. I couldn't help but get immersed into the story. This is Urban Fantasy at its best. This is raw, with only a slight romantic undercurrent. He has even put a new spin on shifters. I was constantly sitting there wondering; OK…I didn't expect that. I really enjoyed that aspect. Blood and Silver is refreshing, but in a really bloody gritty way. I do have one note: While reading I did notice reference to prior battles. They were written in a manner that made me wonder if I had missed something. It turns out I did. There are a couple novellas that have been written between the full novels. Did I need them to enjoy the story? No, but I can see how they would have enhanced my reading experience. I can see me going back at a later date to enjoy them, but I have plans to just plow right into the next book, Blood and Magick. I can’t wait!

Froggy Style

J a Kazimer

Take one froggy prince and a sleepy princess. Add in screwed up family members, a trashed fairy godmother, a matchmaking cockroach and an acrimonious yet strangely loyal manservant and you have the start to a really messed up story. Watch out Saturday Night Live, Ms. Kazimer may have you beat in the hilarious skit category. First he was a frog and then he wasn't, but if he doesn't get his act in gear, he will be a frog again. Jean-Michel La Grenouille must find the woman that broke his froggy curse twenty-two years ago and he has only ten more days to accomplish it. His fairy godmother believes it is the stunning Sleeping Beauty. The prince has his doubt that the sleepy, flannel wearing woman is his One, but hey he needs to trust his wand welding granny. At this point I usually write about the heroine in the story, but I can’t. There are more than one love interests in the story and they can be pretty much summed up in a few words…borderline psychotic, rude, whiney, with whips for tongues. They sometimes encompass one or ALL of those traits. When you think of princesses you think of loving, beauties with hearts of gold. Well in this convoluted fairy tale we visit the world of opposites. Oh how sweet it is! I really can’t go off on the women of the story without pointing out that Jean-Michel, aka Kermit *insert snicker*, is not your normal handsome prince. He may be gorgeous, rich and at times charming, but all in all, to put it plain and simple, he is an asshat. He is egotistical, selfish, conceited and at times a complete idiot. Not your normal portrayal of a Disney type prince. Kermit, needs to save Beauty. On a drunken night out with his ex-best buddy, it appears he may have put out a hit on his beloved. She is his last hope to remain human, so he sets out with his faithful manservant Karl, to find the hit man and to protect Beauty. Along the way he meets Lollie. She knocks him off out of his fancy Ferragamos. She is everything Beauty is not. She is awake…no wait, she is a lot like Beauty; vicious, gorgeous and a touch crazy. She’s perfect. Now all he has to do is fight his lustful feelings for Lollie, find the mysterious hit man, stop someone from killing him and then finally force himself down the aisle to marry his sleepy bride. Whew and all in less than 10 days. Easy-peasy! First off I will say I loved the first in the series, Curses. Loved, loved, loved it! I only really, really, really liked Froggy Style. Ms. Kazimer’s humor was still amazing. She can write one line zingers like nobody’s business. Her writing is fast, quirky and is truly hilarious. How she can twist such long loved innocent fairy tales into this twisted perverse alternate universe, I will never know. So what happened to my love-fest you ask? I’m not really sure. I could be in a princess kind of mood, or I just didn't click the whole 100% like last time. It’s more like 90%. I still had snort out loud moments, and the way she can tell a story is beautifully unique. If you want a good hearty laugh, Froggy Style is for you. You cannot be easily offended though. No matter the sex, race, heritage, sexual orientation, height or even inability to grow hair; nothing is safe or sacred in the hands of Ms. Kazimer. She is brilliant in her ability to screw with everything and not take anything serious, except her ability to be seriously funny. This is a raunchy, light hearted, fun read. There is no meaning to life, heart pounding romance or insightful a-ha moments. I compared her to SNL skits above and I can’t say it enough. She would fit right in with that group and make everyone laugh. So, if you are uptight, staunchy, proper, snooty and just no fun to be around, you will not like this book. You have been warned! Otherwise, if you are like me, you’ll enjoy it for what it’s worth; a hysterical escape, with great adult humor and characters you are glad you don’t know in real life. They are downright scary at times!

4.5 Stars A Woman Made for Pleasure is a very enjoyable historical romance with a touch of mystery. The idea behind the Promises Trilogy is fascinating and fun. Three young girls, aka The Daring Three or Three for short, make a pact to never get married. Each are allowed an exception, and all three have listed some very extraordinary exceptions. Millie Aldon is the instigator of this promise. She has no desire to ever wed, but she wants to ensure that her best friends will be with her always. Millie is adventurous, contemptuous and put quite plainly…a handful. Years later, she remains steadfast against marriage. The three ladies have put off their season long enough and are sent to London to find husbands. None of them have changed their minds, but they put on their best faces to appease their families. It’s been eight long years since Chase Wentworth has been home. He is being called home to escort the Three into society. He will gladly return home to accompany his sister and her two friends at least that is what he wants everyone to believe. He is getting closer to the identity of a traitor to England and this is his opportunity to search closer to home. What he doesn’t expect is his feelings for Millie. Her personality has always fascinated him, but now that she is a beautiful young woman and he can’t stop thinking about her. Trouble is she hasn’t changed much since he last seen her. She is still impetuous, adventurous and challenging, but she makes his blood boil with a mere smile. Now he has to guard his heart, protect Millie and find a killer. These two were a joy to read and the supporting cast was just as much fun. The mystery was well executed and developed nicely. Even though I had an idea who the traitor was, I was guessing right up to the end. Well done, Ms. Sinclair. Millie kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what she was going to next and Chase’s hardheadedness did him no good, but it was exciting to watch Millie put him through the paces. While I absolutely enjoyed this story, I’m unsure about the series. A Woman Made for Pleasure was actually titled Promises back in 2007 and placed first in the Historical Romance category for the PASIC 2007 Book of Your Heart contest. According to her website Promises was never published. It also appears the other two books of the trilogy have already been outlined. Ms. Sinclair has blurbs up for the other two books but no ETA’s. I doubt they will remain titled Consequences and Choices, but it sure would be nice to know when they will be published. A Woman Made for Pleasure was a hit for me. I know I have mentioned my uneasiness about the other two, but only because I want them now. In my very selfish opinion, she has had plenty of time to have them ready for me to read *grins*. If you like saucy heroines and stubborn heroes, with a sweet romance, with some mystery thrown in, I think you will enjoy this novel. Once you have read them, you can join me in a campaign to get the other two released ASAP.

3.5 Stars Ms. Brady did a very fine job on her first novel. There were a few bumps; some small, some big, but all-in-all, a very entertaining read. Kayla is light and Hart is dark. She is a healer and he is a killer. Put these two together and something special is made. Kayla has returned to Seattle to expose her sister’s murderer. From the very start, things aren't what they seem. Seattle is not the city she expected; shadows are everywhere, buildings are crumbling, electricity is sparse and even more questions arise the moment her eyes are set upon her sister’s dead body. Unknown to her, her life is going to be thrown into a world she never heard about and to her surprise, a world that she was forever to be a part of. Hart is bound and determined to get free from his blood bond. Only two more jobs and he will be a free man. His plans of running in the wilds are derailed the moment he sets his rifle scope on Kayla’s face. She sparks something in him that makes his wolf sit up and take notice. He is too close to fail now and he will not let one woman ruin his plans. Warring factions, prophetic futures and raising passions have forced these two to work together. Can they trust each other? Can they save the world? Can they find solace in each other’s arms? With time ticking away, neither have time to think on their choices or the consequences. All they can do is hope for the best. Hearts of Darkness is a hard novel for me to rate. The plot is fascinating, the characters have been developed nicely, the setting is chilling and the book as a whole is rather well written. I really liked the idea behind the book, but what I didn't like was inconsistencies in the story telling. I have to admit first off that I’m a stickler for continuity and reasoning. There were several areas in the book that something would be clearly stated and then a page or so down the road it would be contradicted and then explained away even further in the book. If the order of the story telling would have been laid out better, I believe a better product would have been achieved. To not give any spoilers I’ll just use one example: The villain states that the dragons can’t have children; why I won’t divulge. But his mistress was pregnant. He also states that while he is very old, well over a century, he has a brother that is two hundred years old. So wait…they CAN have children? Much later in the book the reasoning was explained, but if the subject came up, prior to the explanation, I was sent back into confusion. What it turned out to be was that they can’t have children within their species. Yes, I know a minor spoiler, but this type of problem popped up more than once. Make a rather important statement, contradict it and then explain the real reason much later. It was very frustrating. When this type of problem came up, it yanked me away from the novel and made me engage my brain to think it out, when it should have been lost in the storytelling. I do have to say, I am rather interested in the base story. I have not read many steam punk or apocalyptic type novels, but I enjoyed how these two ideas were merged. When I think of the genres, steam punk is set in the past and apocalyptic in the future, but Ms. Brady gave it a very contemporary feeling. She also did a great job with her imagery and the premise of the trilogy is superb. For her debut novel, I give her two thumbs up and I foresee with time, patience and hard work, her storytelling will only get better. I have very high hopes for this author and I will keep an eye out for her future works.

Forever Hers: The Fitzgerald Family

I had the pleasure of reading this novel before it was released and I have to say I squealed when it hit my inbox. I have loved Eddie from the very beginning. I will say though that he is still second to Chase, because I just see him as mine and he makes me purr. Hey, a girl can dream, but Eddie still rocks my world! *smiles* Amy is a woman that can be any woman. She is coming out of turbulent relationship that was filled with pain, fear and lies. She has done what most women would do, left her abusive husband for her own sake, but mainly for the safety of her innocent daughter. This momma bear will protect her baby and you better watch out for her claws. She is a new woman and full of surprises. Eddie needs a break. A nice quiet escape from L.A. to northern Idaho should do it. He is not going cold turkey, though. He plans to quietly assist the local police department on a baffling case, but he doesn't see that as a problem. He is away from his precinct, family and daily troubles, so all is good. He expected a quiet reprieve and got a woman and her daughter that will not leave him, his body or his heart alone. These two start off very rocky, but find that they enjoy each other’s company. They are both leery from their pasts, but slowly through quiet companionship, sexual attraction and a vibrant little girl, their relationship begins to blossom. It’s too bad that Amy’s ex has found her and he decides that no one will get in his way of getting what he wants…Amy. What the man doesn’t expect or plan for is Eddie Fitzgerald. Eddie is a force not to be reckoned with and he has the support and tools to protect Amy. The ex-husband also has no idea the lengths Amy will go to protect her daughter. It’s a double whammy and I really enjoyed the show. Forever Hers is the fifth novel in the Fitzgerald Family series. I have yet to be disappointed with any of the stories this series. This novel did seem to have a stronger “danger” presence than the prior book and I have to say I really enjoyed that aspect. There has also always been a touch of mystery encompassing Eddie. It was so nice to get a peek into the man and learn what makes him tick. I also enjoyed that Amy was able to break through his shell, but truthfully Eddie didn't stand a chance once he met Amy’s daughter, Raelynn. She was an entertaining and lovely addition to the story. Great plot, devious villain, enchanting secondary characters and a cute as a button little girl; how can you go wrong? You can’t! Oh, oh, oh " I forgot to mention, these two have amazing, ahem, scenes together, *wink-wink*. Forever Hers, is a well-rounded novel that shouldn't be missed. I suppose you can read it as a standalone, but you really can’t beat the series as a whole. Check them out. This is contemporary romance at its best!

His Bonnie Bride

There is something very special about this story. I loved the characters, the plot, well everything. It was a real treat. I’m having a heck of a time pinpointing the exact thing that made it special. It’s a complete package of history, love and action with amazing characters, exciting times and a titillating plot. If you enjoy this genre, you really should pick up a copy of His Bonnie Bride. Storm Eldon captured my heart from the very beginning. She was a woman born out of her time and with all of the trouble she caused, stirred and instigated; she should have been beat more. I know you are thinking, WHAT - BEAT MORE? It is a running joke in His Bonnie Bride. To find out what I mean, you’ll just have to read it. But trust me, if I had an ounce of her tenacity and spunk I would have been beat too. Storm seems to have an internal light that when it emerges, it shines brightly. She is blessed with more than beauty, but also with a strong sense of worth and the importance of treating people fairly. She is also a person not to be crossed. I love how she handled her adversaries. She is funny, smart and a person you would be proud to know. From the moment Storm blew into Tavis MacLagan life, it was changed forever. She is a force of nature and at their first meeting, when she was a young girl; Tavis and his whole clan knew they were witnessing something special. Years later when another opportunity came around for him to claim her as a woman, he jumps at the chance. Now she is his prisoner and he will possess her body, but nothing more. Storm has an amazing ability to weave magic and capture the whole MacLagan clan with her mere presence. I enjoyed the progression of Tavis and Storm’s relationship, life in the clan and the intricacies that it entailed. I also appreciated the glimpse of these turbulent times and to witness how love could cure generations of fighting and change the future. I found the storyline strong and well-paced; excellence all around. One spoiler...BRIDE? The title of His Bonnie Bride is a misleading title and in my opinion, a very bad choice. The blessed event doesn't materialize until page 309/346. Yes, it happens after you have read almost 90% of the book. This book doesn't have much to do about marriage or brides. Yes, you get to enjoy the hurdles they had to overcome to become a couple, but I feel it had to do more with how the people, as a whole, were able to get past their cultural differences and the preconceived misconceptions of labeling a person a bloody Scot or a Sassenach. Despite the title, I utterly enjoyed His Bonnie Bride. This is the first novel in the Highland Brides series. But I also must mention that this is a rerelease of the previously titled novel, Amber Flame (better title IMHO). Ms. Howell is a well-known author in this genre and I can see why. When I get my next craving for some Scottish lovin’, I’ll be sure to check out her other releases. Ms. Howell is very talented in her ability to draw me into the story and to become absorbed into her amazing world building. His Bonnie Bride is a treasure and I can see myself enjoying it over and over for years to come.

The Mad Lord's Daughter
by
Jane Goodger

, February 10, 2013
What a fun historical! The Mad Lord’s Daughter is not a deep story, but I still found it very entertaining with an interesting story line and enchanting characters. A young woman has lost everything; her mother, her father and her home. The worst is yet to come. For years, her father has protected her. He loved her fiercely, but he did her an injustice because of his fear of losing her. He kept her safe from the world, but he also kept her from life. He kept her a virtual prisoner in her own home. Only she didn't know it. Melissa Atwell must hold her head up high and face her fears of the new world around her. Even the simple pleasures in life are new to her, like babies, puppy kisses and even snow. She will not fail her father or herself. She will face her new life with dignity and grace. Every day is new to her. With the help of her companion, Diana Stanhope, Uncle Lord Braddock and his son John Atwell, she will take London by storm. From the beginning John Atwell knows of Melissa’s circumstances. While initially he doesn't know what to think of her, she quickly wins him over. It really is too bad they are first cousins though, because for a man that doesn't believe in love, he sure is seeing things in a new refreshing light and it is all because of Miss Atwell. What can I say that won’t give the story away? Yes, the plot is very straightforward and the Ms. Goodger tells you upfront what is going on, but to put it into a review just seems wrong. She has some nice surprises. What I will say is: • The title, The Mad Lord’s Daughter, is perfect. It encompasses the mystery and truth of the story in so many ways. • Love is in the air and it is spread everywhere. • The women in the story are all strong in their own right and are fun to read about. They sure know how to keep the men on their toes. • The men…what can I say. Dashing, clever and gentlemanly, oh and don’t forget clueless. You got to love a romantically dimwitted hero every once in a while. The Mad Lord’s Daughter is basically a standalone book. Unfortunately, you discover at the end of the story that it is actually the second book in an unnamed series. WooHoo! But wait, it turns out I already read it, huh? I state this because I did not need the first book, When a Duke Says I Do, to enjoy this story. In fact, I didn't even catch the hints that there was another book from the couple’s names, or their mentioned plot. I was totally clueless and it’s OK. It just shows that you can enjoy each novel alone without taking away from the other. I will say though, that I did enjoy the first book more, so be sure to check out the review if you want to know why. The Mad Lord’s Daughter is a sweet read. It was smoothly written and didn't fail to put a smile on my face. It was a nice change of pace and if Ms. Goodger decides to write more in this series, I can see myself checking them out. I have not been disappointed yet. Great storytelling all the way.

Dangerous Love: The Fitzgerald Family

Fool me once…Shame on you…Fool me twice…well you better watch your back because I’m coming after you with guns blazing and the ability to take you down. Faith has had it. She about to have one of her most amazing shows of her career and an unscrupulous ex is out to rip it away from her…AGAIN. Well she will not have it. He has been a thorn in her side for years and she knows just who to call to make sure she has the proof to ruin him and his stealing ways. She calls another ex. Well he really isn’t an ex; he is more of a one night stand that has never left her mind or her body alone. Cue in sinfully sexy security consultant and all around hottie " Ken Lambert. Ken has never forgotten how Faith burned him. Never quite knowing what to expect from their night of passion, he was blindsided when Faith loved him and left him. They scorched the sheets, and her rejection of him has left a bad taste in his mouth and his body wanting much more. Faith is drop dead gorgeous, witty, and the most maddening woman he has ever met. He may have had reservations taking on this case, but he is not going to waste this opportunity for another chance with Faith. He is going to pull out all the stops and she won’t know what hit her. Now they are working together to get the proof they need to bring down her ex. With the help of his employees, her family and her aunt’s feisty friends, they get what they need and entertain us along the way. Old pains are healed, laughter is shared, face fanning is invoked and love blossoms, and in my book that is a great combination. Once again we get to visit the fascinating Fitzgerald family. Dangerous Love is book four in this ever growing contemporary series. Ms. Walters has written a delightful story with strong willed and fascinating characters, and the love of a great family. While the mystery is light, it is still a fun ride along the way. We know “who” the bad guy is, but finding out the what, where and why is all the fun. Along the way we get to be witness to Faith and Ken’s reluctant affair. As readers, we know they are the perfect combination to ignite the pages and keep us clamoring for more, and boy, they do not disappoint. Ms. Walters sure does satisfy with Dangerous Love. The story is engaging and packed with goodness. A sexy couple, revisits from past characters, spicy interludes and some action to top it off. The combination is perfect and I have yet to be disappointed with The Fitzgerald Family series and Dangerous Love is another keeper for me. Can’t wait for more from this author or about this family!

Dream Bound

A man who knows his future is waiting for him fights hard and works harder to save the woman he loves and her people. Twenty years ago Mac Dugan found the love of his life and lost her. But he is a man that has a second chance. His love is from the future, his present to be exact. He spoke to her over time and space and she taught him what he needs to know to save her people. The time is now! Mac has brought together his Dream Team; three men and three women that have a little extra and a lot of sexuality. With his equipment and their imaginations they are setting out to save Mac’s love Zianne and her people, the Nyrians. Their connection as a group is instant, strong and amazing. They are more than Mac ever expected and success is in his grasp. I found the concept behind this story really quite remarkable. Ms. Douglas has taken the notion of dreams and fantasy to a whole new level. What if you were really able to project your fantasies into reality and in the same time save a whole race? Dream Bound is wonderfully refreshing and beyond sexy. Ms. Douglas can write love, sex and passion like nobody’s business and she will always be a must read for me and she didn’t disappoint here. While the story revolves around the rescuing of Zianne and her people there are actually nine characters. I was drawn to each and every one of them. While some are more front-and-center than others, I could feel that by the time this tale is told they will all be well loved friends. Each person is unique and the way they are written makes them all special yet familiar. Dream Bound is marketed as an erotic romance novel. However, there really isn’t a true “couple”. The book does have love and discovery between its pages though. There also isn’t a happy ever after ending, but a happily for now. It is apparent that it is meant to be a series. Even with the ending left open, Ms. Douglas doesn’t leave us with a cliff hanger. You are left satisfied and ready for the next in the series. I personally can’t wait for November, when Dream Unchained is scheduled to be released. I would highly recommend that you read her short story Dream Catcher in the Nightshift anthology before you start this novel. Dream Catcher sets the stage for Dream Bound beautifully and you get a good view into Mac’s reasoning for his lifelong passion. I could have easily read Dream Bound without it, but I’m glad I didn’t. Please don’t let not being able to read the prequel deter you from picking up this novel though. You will not be lost; the experience will be just as fulfilling and enjoyable. Dream Bound is full of sensual fantasies, likeable characters and a plot that is imaginative, vivid and fascinating. Dream Bound is a spellbinding tale of second chances, new love and the power of fantasies. It’s another keeper for my “Kate Douglas” section of my library. Yes, she has a row all for herself. Pick up Dream Bound and find out why!

Waterborne

I have wanted to read this series for a while now. So I jumped at the chance to read the third book in the series, Waterborne. Alexandros has watched both his brothers recently fall for human women. Humans have never done much for him, but for some reason Ree stirs something in him. At first glance she seems like an unassuming woman. She also seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Only Ree is not what she appears. From early childhood, Ree’s life has been shaped and controlled by a secret agency. She was never a normal child and upon the death of her parents she has been in training to be more, much more. She is a proficient killer. Even though she knows there’s a different side to the world, she never expected to find a new dangerous world underwater. Now she must trust a man to save her life, but the last time she trusted and loved a man, he died. She will not allow that to happen again. Alexandros is an assassin. He has protected his family and Atlantis for countless years. His current assignment is no different; kill a man found guilty of crimes against nature. But when things go horrible wrong, he is forced to save a human. Intrigue, deception and danger are around every corner. Alexandros is now in a race to save Ree and the kingdom. I think what helped this novel was Ms. Irons’ choice to spread the story amongst more than just the main couple. There is a lot going on in this series and it was nice to see how some of the plots from prior books played out. While all three brothers have found their mates, I am actually unsure if this series is complete. It does have a finished feel to it, but the window for more is there. The story in general was fine. Nothing fantastic, but it was still engaging. I had that feeling with most of the series. There was just a little spark that was missing to make it great for me. For instance, Ree never lived up to her title. She was supposed to be an unparalleled assassin. I just couldn’t see it. She had a strong presence, but her skills were never really highlighted. Yes, a majority of the book she was trying to survive, but when push came to shove, I expected more. Alex was very heroic, but he took a bit to warm up to. It even took Ree awhile too. I enjoyed him, but he was just ok. Morgan is probably still my favorite of the brothers. I will say, without giving anything away, Morgan made the right choice in my book. Alex is perfect for the job! While their love story was pleasing to read about, their adventures were more enjoyable. I was actually hoping they would be more involved with some of the other background battles that were going on, but it was not meant to be. Ms. Irons has written a unique underwater world. If you crave a new paranormal world, this series might be for you. The creatures are diverse and she has developed a fascinating universe that is right under our noses. I do have to give her credit for her colorful and amazing abilities to world build. Personally, I think Waterborne does not stand alone. There are too many details that are enhanced by having the back story. I feel it is necessary to read the prior books to fully appreciate this novel. Ms. Irons has taken the tale of Atlantis into a remarkable new direction. It is distinctively hers and for anyone who enjoys oceanic tales, Waterborne and this series might be for you.

Blood of Innocence

Blood of Innocence is book #2 in the Sloan Skye series. About week after her first grueling case as an intern, Sloan is thrust into another disturbing case. Pregnant women are dying of blood loss and their babies are missing. The Paranormal Behavioral Analysis Unit (PBAU) is brought in for another grisly case. Women are showing up dead in their beds, drained of all their blood and their babies removed from their bodies. All done without a drop of blood wasted. There is no sign of forced entry and most of the time; the fathers are sound asleep right next to them. Sloan is also learning about the other side of her family tree. Since discovering she is part elf and that she has been betrothed to the Prince of the Sluagh’s, she is on a mission to find him a different more suitable wife. She has a year and she hits the ground running. If she doesn’t have enough trouble with her so called fiancé, she is also attracting two co-workers and another prince. What is a girl to do? Why help her mother plan a wedding to her father, of course. Sloan’s life just keeps getting crazier and crazier and the only thing she really wants to do is focus on stopping this perp before another mother and baby is lost. This story was a slow burn. Was there heart pounding action? No. Was there hot steamy sex? No. Or what about the usual paranormal suspects? Nope not really. What you do get is a steady story that I personally couldn’t put down. Blood of Innocence really held on and I found I had to force myself to put it down at 4am. I just couldn’t find a good stopping point and eventually had to say " ENOUGH! Another aspect I enjoyed was that this story didn’t give you ordinary vampires. The usual vampire; has fangs, can’t go out in daylight and is evil. Ms. Dane’s plot dove deeper. She is taking the paranormal into folklore. You are meeting creatures that can be labeled as vampires, but are different creatures all together. There are no standard paranormals making visits in her novels, no indeedy. Ms. Dane is making Urban Fantasy all her own and she is owning it. Ms. Dane also keeps you on the edge of knowing Sloan. You can feel that Sloan is on the cusps of something remarkable and there are many signs that pop up. But Sloan still has no idea who or what she really is and neither do you. I kept expecting and wanting Ms. Dane to slip and tell me. Well she doesn’t, but I’m not too terribly disappointed, I think a little mystery makes all the more fun. If you want a unique Urban Fantasy novel that still gives you a touch of paranormal, but with a folklore twist, pick up Blood of Innocence. It is a really nice change of pace from the norm. I personally can’t wait to see what she has next in store for Sloan Skye!

Kat’s world is about to be turned upside down. Kat is a one woman wrecking crew when it comes to taking down undesirable vampires and werewolves. Now there is a new force in town. One that is killing in what appears to be with Kat’s signature moves. This does not bode well for her. She is already trying to protect Purebloods, now it looks like she is going to have to work twice as hard to protect her own hide. Kat begins to question her existence and the desire to continue down her chosen road. When a side trip shows her a new way of life, she must take a long hard look at herself, her past and her future. While Kat is fighting for her life, she must decide if she wants to start living again. This novel had two very different storylines in it. While one was playing out the other was in the background being a tempting mistress. After Kat’s life takes an unexpected turn, you dive right into the next story with both feet. Mr. Moore begins to set the stage for the next book with a bunch of questions and suspense. The first storyline is classic Kat; action, suspense and strained alliances. Knowing the circumstances behind Kat’s life, I really could see the outcome from a mile away. But that was okay. You were able to visit old enemies and have some burning questions answered. I think personally, I would have enjoyed a deeper concentration into the main darker plot. It felt short changed. Mr. Moore makes it all seem better though by throwing in a new element, Ethan’s buddy " Beligral. The second plot is very intriguing. Mr. Moore’s writing made my skin crawl with how potentially sinister it felt. I think the new direction in Kat’s life is going to make for some very interesting reading. But again, it was just a tiny taste and not exactly fulfilling. Kat is completely out of her element and it makes me excited to read the next book in the series, Blessed By a Demon’s Mark, which is currently scheduled for release in January 2013. Tainted Night, Tainted Blood as a whole, came together in an interesting pleasant way. I was drawn in and I came away with questions answered and my imagination soaring. This is very good Urban Fantasy. There is lots of action and a kick-butt heroine. It makes for some very fun reading!

Brody

Hold on to your britches, this is one rip roaring ride! Olivia will not take no for an answer. If Brody has the answer to where her brother is, she will do whatever it takes to wring it out of him. Even put herself into dangerous situations. As the oldest girl in the family, she has had to be strong. But her heart broke when Benjy was taken from them. She was like his second mother to him and he held a special place in heart. So now that she knows that Brody is hot on the trail to finding him, she is going to help. Olivia is smart, resourceful and cunning and she will use her body, mind and tenacity to find her baby brother. Brody is a singular man. He is alone in the world and he prefers it that way. After witnessing the death of his two brothers, the experience has hardened him and has made him a tougher man. Since he has started working the case of robberies and kidnappings in this Texas community, he has known Olivia Graham was a pain in the ass, but he had no clue. She has stuck herself to him like a burr and he can’t seem to get rid of her. Luckily she has surprised him time and time again and she has proven herself useful in more ways than one. Maybe this partner business is something he should reconsider. From the Circle Eight Ranch to deep into hostile Mexico territories, they have worked side by side. Danger is lurking everywhere, but between the two of them, they will survive. This partnership may not be made in heaven, but it sure does make for some hot steamy desert nights. When I read Matthew, I was intrigued by both Olivia and Brody. Olivia was such an unpleasant character, but she still showed a heart and Brody was a determined and strong Texas Ranger. I was very excited that their story would be next in the series. Let me just say….Ms. Lang did not disappoint! Olivia was amazing. She showed heart, spine and spirit. I was shocked by her actions. Considering this is a historical romance novel and I am so very pleased by her. She stole the whole novel for me. Yes, Brody showed a presence but really it was all Olivia in my book. These two are made for each other and wow do they burn up the pages. Ms. Lang doesn’t waste any time bringing these two together and boy howdy is it hot. Their relationship is rocky yet sexy, their banter is spunky and entertaining and the plot is adventurous and thrilling. I’m not really sure if all the siblings will get their story told, but I’m here for the long haul. The ongoing plot is rather ordinary, but I’m here 100% for the family. My heart goes out to them and I cheer their happiness because life does go on after death and loss. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long for a resolution. The thought of Benjy being out in the world alone, just breaks my heart. The Graham’s are a fascinating family and I can’t wait until they have their justice. Brody is a sexy, exciting ride. Ms. Lang has penned a refreshingly exhilarating adventure that will keep you seated in your saddle and sweating bullets!

4.5 Stars! I have to say that this series is new for me. When I requested Stalking the Others, I knew that this was book four and that I would have to play catch up. I’m glad I picked it and I’m really glad I had this book after finishing book three, Deceived by the Others. Get ready for a kick-ass ride! The Sunstriker pack is on the run. Their crimes have been revealed, and everyone is looking for them. The person top on the list: Shiarra Waynest. Shiarra has a mission. Take out every one who has wronged her. She as a month to do it and she will do anything to accomplish it. Enemies beware; this woman will take you down. This one time good girl is now bad. Over the years, Shiarra has been forced into a world she never wanted to enter. This new world has ruined her life and broken her heart, but rather than dwell and sulk about it she runs head first into the battle. You really have to admire her for that. She may not do the smartest things and may not be the strongest one out there, but you can’t fault her determination. Stalking the Others is a fast, action packed novel. I really can’t go more into the story, since I really don’t want to give it away. I had moments of deep emotion, elation and fist pumping “Heck, yeahs”. There are also more stories to be told. I can only hope that Ms. Haines is going to quickly crank out the next in the series. Since I don’t want to give the plot and surprises away, I will mention a bit more about the series. H&W Investigation in my opinion is very good Urban Fantasy. I sometimes have a hard time connecting with this genre, but I did with ease with this series. Shia is not your normal heroine. Some people complain about her weakness, but I find her traits more believable than the norm. She is human, and her actions and thoughts portray that. She doesn’t instantly become a super heroine. The buildup is slow and I liked it. She makes a lot of errors and even at the end of this book she retains her believability for me. The first two books in the series; Hunted by the Others and Taken by the Others, were not as enjoyable as the last two were for me. Ms. Haines has definitely picked it up and has improved on the series. Now with her world building done, she is fully engaged in the plot and it shows. As a whole I would recommend this series. You want something new and exciting? Then you need to pick up H&W Instigations. This is a wonderful Urban Fantasy series with a teeny tiny touch of romance (it’s barely there). The action is amazing and the characters are engaging. When you need something a little different, I would look no farther than right here.

The Man of my Dreams

All I can say is…UGH! I bet that has you thinking…WHAT Cassie is wondering what is going on. For most of her life she has had dreams of a knight in not-so-shiny armor. He is always there when she needs him; holding her through the pain, comforting her during her sadness, saving her when she needs help. But he is always in the shadows, never quite there. Suddenly now he is more, much more. His arms have become her home and her body craves this secret man with a passion. What do these erotic dreams mean? Her brain tells her, he is only a dream, but her body is saying something different. Is he a vision, a man or a monster? Who is he? What is he? Thinks are happening in her town and have been for a very long time. There is a killer on the loose. This killer seeks to rid the world of deprived evil; a type of evil that hurts good decent people. The killer is killing killers. Does that make them good or evil? Cassie is questioning her sanity, but she is beginning to see a pattern. Can her dream man be this vigilante killer? Is she losing her mind and her heart? WOW " what a different story! The Man of My Dreams is detailed, deep and well thought out. Ms. Quintal really dives in and you learn a lot about Cassie, but she skates around this mystery man. You know what he is and basically why. You understand the basic reasons why he does what he does, but he is written just out of our reach. Ms. Quintal teases us; “here is a little taste, nope that is all you get”. You are left on the edge of understanding and you get nothing more. It is a bit hard to explain. I was left wanting more of him and in the end, I was pleased and yet pleasantly shocked. I do have to warn you. There are disturbing scenes and subject matters involved and the ending is very abrupt. I personally did not have any issues with the story, but some may. Some of the elements are graphic, but they are written in a way that didn’t bother me, but got the point across clearly. In regards to the ending, you will want the next book right away, I know I do. I am pleased to report there are two more so far in the series. Be Careful What You Wish For is currently out and The Chosen One is out the end of June 2012. I have no idea where this series going, but I do know I want a front row seat! Great job Ms. Quintal! You have a new fan and I can say she is very pleased!

Bedding Lord Ned

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to move on. For years Ellie has loved Ned. They grew up together, but he never saw her as more than a sister. She watched him fall in love with her good friend, Cicely, marry her then bury her. She was also there for him during his years of mourning. She is not getting any younger and she refuses to be the spinster aunt. During this year’s annual birthday party, she is going to move on. She is going to welcome the advances of single men and she is going to be open to the possibilities. Now she just needs to convince her heart. Four years ago, Ned lost his loving perfect wife and son, during childbirth. He has decided that he must move on and find a new wife and start filling his nursery. Nothing like taking advantage of the hand selected single women at the annual Valentine House Party. The men and women that the Duchess of Love invites are carefully selected for optimal matchmaking. There is nothing like the present to take advantage of his mother’s skills. It shouldn’t be too hard. He only wants a wife; he doesn’t ever want to find love again. This should be very simple. While a storm stirs outside Greycliffe Castle, the six men and six women are entertained by the Duke and the Duchess. Meals are shared, games are played and attachments are made. Things are shaping up, but not how the Duchess of Love ever expected. All she can do is set the stage. Now she has to sit back and allow the players to play the game. This is a very pleasant read. I do highly suggest that you read the prequel The Duchess of Love prior to beginning this novel. It is a very fun introduction to the woman behind the Duchess of Love. I will admit that I may have enjoyed her tale even more than Ned’s. Now approximately 30 years after the prequel, she is still up to her matchmaking shenanigans, but on a much larger scale. This story might be how Ellie and Ned finally come together, but the Duchess is always in the background actually having more fun than the main couple. I liked it! The duration of the story happens in the days leading up to the annual Valentine Ball. You spend many days and nights with the couples as they learn about each other and discover if there will be any love matches. Bedding Lord Ned is not action packed, smutty, or even overly comedic. It is a very pleasant enjoyable read that takes you on a journey of discovery. I was a bit disappointed at the abrupt ending of the book though. I enjoyed how Ellie finally found her courage, and Ned emerged from his slump, but it happened rather quickly and when it was done, well it was just done. I would have enjoyed a bit more of the aftermath. There was also no set up for the next book. That can actually be a good thing, because I’m not a fan of cliff hangers, but I have no clue who the next “victim” will be for the Duchess. I have been drawn in. I am anxious to find out more about the mystery behind Ash’s marriage. I can’t wait to meet the woman that will eventually tame the youngest of the Valentine men. I wonder if she will expand beyond her immediate family and find matches for some of the people we have met in this story. Oh I could go on and on, but suffice it to say…I’m hooked. Good or bad, love or hate " I want more Duchess of Love!

No Tan Lines

No Tan Lines is fun, fun, fun. The town of Barefoot William was founded on freedom, joy and fun. Leave your worries behind and come to paradise to relax and enjoy yourself. That has been the basis of this community for generations, unlike the neighboring community of Saunders Shores. They desire the high life of glitz, riches and exclusivity. They are the elite and they are far removed from the carefree lifestyle of the laid back town of Barefoot William. Since the conception of these two communities the Cates and the Saunters have been enemies. They have battled each other from the very beginning, but all that is about to change. Shaye is desperate. She needs to get Trace to agree to rent her a portion of his beach. The problem is though, they have been enemies since high school and short of the miracle of Trace growing a heart, her hands are tied. She has already made commitments to the event that will save her community. Now she needs to figure out how to fulfill them. Trace is desperate. His current fling, Nicole, needs a location to open her business, but there is no way the clientele that frequent Saunders Shores would be remotely interested in her products. He needs to get Shaye to agree to rent her space on her family’s boardwalk, which would be a first. Well he has something she wants, his beach. Let the negotiations begin. Shaye is totally screwed. She jumped the gun and made plans without Trace’s approval and now Trace has her right where he wants her and he plans to take full advantage of the situation. Nicole has been taken care of and is now out of his bed. You’d think all would be grand, but he has more things to worry about. His body is not cooperating with his brain. His body desires Shaye, but he knows he can’t have her. Trace is totally screwed. While this story revolves mainly around Shaye Cates and Trace Saunders, Ms. Angell has also incorporated two other couples into the plot, but they enhance the novel beautifully. I think normally that would bother me, but the way they blended in without being too intrusive, it was brilliant. As soon as I finished the story I was researching who would be next in the series, because their stories were not concluded. Well don’t bother looking, because my search came up with nothing other than it does look like there are more stories planned for the small town of Barefoot William. YAY! If I was going to recommend one book for the summer, it would be No Tan Lines. It is light, breezy and a pure joy. I had several laugh out loud moments and I always had a grin on my face. The characters are wonderful. The scenery is beautiful and there is nothing to drag it down. If you don’t read it for those attributes alone, pick it up for Olive. I’m sorry to leave you hanging and not tell you more about her, but she has got to be the cutest darn character that I have read about in a long time. My only regret is that I have to wait to find out what happens with the other two couples. I just hope when their story is shared, I can enjoy the continuation of Shaye and Trace’s relationship. Pick up No Tan Lines for your vacation, bathtub or just to enjoy by the campfire. It’s simply a lovely story that is carefree and enchanting. So grab your beach towel and your sunscreen, because we are on our way to Barefoot William, where the ocean meets the shore. I just love that line!

Invitation to Scandal

Bronwen Evans

Take one self sufficient smart woman and a man on a mission to clear his family’s name and you get a clash of wills that the small town of Deal has never seen before. Growing up witnessing the unhappy marriage of her parents has jaded Rheda Kerrich. Then add an unforeseen scandal and Rheda is now in the perfect position to stay unmarried, which is just fine by her. She has worked too long and hard to allow a man to rule her world. She has a community to take care of and a husband would only be in the way. For over a decade, Rufus has battled the lies that have clouded his family’s world. He is closing in on the truth and he is not about to let one allusive woman get in his way. He will just have to be smarter and use every trick he knows to find out the truth. These two have many secrets between them. Neither knows what is really at stake and until they can be honest with each other, they won’t get anywhere. The problem is there is a spy lurking around and is tangled in both their lives. The spy has secrets that they will kill for and has done so in the past. Can Rheda and Rufus protect all they love and each other? This was an exciting read. While the antagonist hid in the background, you had these two strong people battling their feelings and guarding their individual secrets. The novel did not revolve around the mystery of their secrets; it was more about the unveiling of it amongst the characters. As the reader, you knew what was happening most of the time. But Ms. Evans was very clever and she had other secrets buried that were just as juicy. It was great to be able to enjoy them later on. I also had a very good idea, who the antagonist was early on, but the way that Ms. Evans wrote the story, it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the plot. It was very well done. All of the characters involved were such a pleasure to read about. At times I wanted to clobber Rheda’s brother Daniel and at other times, cheer on the townsfolk. I enjoyed how they were all unique and how they enhanced the storyline. But I loved the cat and mouse game that Rheda and Rufus played, most of all. Just sitting back and wondering who was going to get the upper hand was the best. Not to mention Ms. Evans starts the book rather saucily and sets the stage for sexy scenes without being too erotic. Invitation to Scandal is a complex vivid tale that is well balanced. I did not have the opportunity to read her prior book in this series Invitation to Ruin. I don’t feel like I missed anything either. These two books are linked, but they seem to be their own stories. I truly enjoyed Invitation to Scandal and I plan to read Invitation to Ruin as soon as I can get my hands on it. It is my hope that Ms. Evans has future plans for the other bachelors in her little corner of England. She has a wonderful talent to write distinctive plots that are above and beyond the norm and she is a real pleasure to read. This is a relatively new author to watch. Great Job!

Sevin The Lords of Satyr
by
Elizabeth Amber
tsteinerid
, May 28, 2012
I can officially say that Ms. Amber is consistent! Sevin is panty melting hot, but she followed her pattern that she started with the first set of satyr men (books 1-4), ending a series quickly and abruptly, but in a good yet frustrating way. Sevin is the brother that was always left behind. Many years ago, his parents died and he also lost his three brothers. Left alone at a very young age, he wondered and tries to understand his existence. Too young to understand his heritage, his coming of age had dire consequences that marked him for life. Now all his brothers are home, but his brother Lucien is broken and Sevin is determined to be there for him; even if that means he has to remove the one woman that makes his blood burn. Alexa Patrizzi has nothing. She lost her mother and brother months ago, but after what she learned about them, she is not so sure if that is such a bad thing. She runs to Venice to escape their evil doings and has now returned to her home in Rome. Alone and scared, she is barely holding on. To protect Lucien, Sevin Satyr wants her gone from Rome, but she has nowhere else to go. Their attraction is almost visual, but after the pain that her family set upon Lucien, Sevin can’t pursue Alexa. He needs to get rid of her and fast. Fate has other plans. These three people are thrown together, forced to endure. One night will change everyone and everything. Lucien is more confused than ever. His hatred for the Patrizzi family has fueled him and now revenge is out of his grasp, but there are more pressing matters at hand. A new travel embargo has just cut off the Satyr Lords from their supply of life saving grapes. Not to mention the arrival of a fountain has a strange but strong pull on Lucien. One touch and he is gone. Natalia is oddly attracted to the godlike statue. She doesn’t dare to look or even touch it. The beautiful statue suddenly appeared at the temple over a decade ago and has been worshipped and revered ever since; seen as the savior to save their dying lands. WHO WAKETH HIM, SHALL SAVE OUR LAND. One stumble and touch later and Natalia has given her people hope, but she has also sealed her fate. Lucien wakes to find a beautifully alluring woman pleasuring him. She is touching him, but for someone who despises to be touched it is a strange yet wondrous experience. He doesn’t trust these feelings though. Now after years of torment he is a prisoner yet again and is forced to comply with his captors, but he senses his last remaining enemy nearby. Lucien will get his revenge if it is the last thing he does. Forced together, they find comfort. Can her training as a healer save Lucien? Can he get past his fears and allow love into his heart? These two broken people need each other and together they can find happiness. Can Lucien return to his brothers and save them before the next full moon? These two short stories blend beautifully together. They flowed seamlessly from one to the other. All-in-all I’m satisfied with Sevin. Would I have wanted longer more detailed stories for these two brothers? Yes. Would I have missed out on their stories? No. I have mixed feelings about this novel. Are you confused yet? Well if you read the about the Tuscan Satyr’s you would be up-to-date, but not to worry, I’ll see what I can do. Ms. Amber has written seven books of the Satyr Lords and her seventh book is smartly titled Sevin. Books 1-4 are about the Tuscan clan set approximately 60 years prior to the Roman clan. The first four books do not need to be read to enjoy books 5-7, but Ms. Amber has written an amazing world so I personally wouldn’t want to miss out on them. Her consistency that I mentioned earlier is this; she wrote full novels for the first of the brothers, but for some reason she has ended the sub-series by combining the last of the clan into one final book. So book four had two characters short stories and so did Sevin, book seven. Book four titled Dominic, also contained Vince’s story. These characters really could have held their own novels, but their short stories were still very enjoyable reads. This can be said for Sevin too. Sevin and Lucien are two brothers I really wanted full novels written about. I did not expect their books to be combined and because of that, I am disappointed. Being titled Sevin, I truly expected it to be solely his own. Both of these men didn’t deserve to be swept under the rug and be quickly wrapped up. Even though Ms. Amber did combine their stories, their short stories are still very good. They do feel rushed, but they are filled with love, lust and suspense. These are well written books that really need to be enjoyed. The Satyr Lords are amazing virile men with lots of love to give. I enjoy Ms. Amber’s world building, her characters are amazing and the storytelling is fantastic. These novels are not for the timid at heart though. The Aphrodisia line of Kensington is very erotic and explicit, so be prepared for many steamy sex scenes that will leave you breathless with your heart pounding. I love these novels and I hope Ms. Amber continues to enchant us with many more tantalizing satyr men.

His Dark Embrace

3.5 Stars. Skylynn knows pain and she is living it again right now. She lost her parents at a very young age, but she had the love of her grandparents to comfort her. Then she lost her grandmother, but her grandfather was there for her, her touchstone. Life has been good up until a few months ago. Now her beloved brother is missing in action in Iraq and she just buried her grandfather. Her life is at a crossroads. Does she go back to her life in Chicago or stay at her grandfather’s home and start a new life? Well for the time being she has a bit of time. Kaiden Thorne has lived on the outside of his neighbor’s life for years. Watching Paddy’s grandchildren grow up has been a calming and an amazing experience. Through the years he grew very close to Paddy and they have had a very beneficial relationship. Kaiden may have left Vista Verde years ago, but he never lost contact with Paddy and he secretly watched over his granddaughter. Now Skylynn is all grown up and his feelings for her have grown all the more personal. But that isn’t the only thing he needs from her. She is now the keeper of Paddy’s secret; a secret that very well could ruin Kaiden and Skylynn’s forever. Skylynn has always had a secret crush on Kaiden and Kaiden has developed a burning lust for her. Circumstances have propelled these two together and things are about to get steamy. There is nothing in the way for them now, except Kaiden’s hunger; a hunger so primal that it could killer her. But there may be something else in their way…an old enemy that has been lurking around the O’Brien house unbeknown to Kaiden. This is a man that will do anything to get his revenge on Kaiden, even turn his back on all he has ever known. His Dark Embrace is a lovely sweet story. It is well balanced and I truly enjoyed it. The vampire lore in the story is pretty standard, but with a very nice twist. Intimate relations are very much behind closed doors. So if you like your romances with a little more love action, this book is not for you. But if you are familiar with Ms. Ashley’s writing you will already know that she writes sweet sensual romances not steamy hot burn your fingers type. His Dark Embrace has a good plot with emotion, sensuality and intensity. Her character development is on the light side, but getting into their mind set is not hard. This is a very enjoyable read that kept me engaged but not gripped. I would recommend His Dark Embrace for a quiet evening when you just want to relax, lose yourself in a book and get away from the overly sexed novels out there. While this might not be a bodice ripper, it is still a lovely escape.

Grace

This is going to be a very mixed review. I was amazed at the quality of writing but disappointed in the story. Grace is a very heart wrenching story. It focuses on four character point-of-views, with their common link being Gracy, a beautiful vibrant little girl. • Kurt " Gracy’s father. He is hard working and struggling to keep his family healthy and happy. Now he also has to shoulder the problems of his ailing father. • Elsbeth " Gracy’s Mother " Unhappy with her choices in life and wondering what could have been. She is connected to one child and detached from the other. She is struggling with her identity. • Trevor " Gracy’s Brother " A trouble young man who has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He always feels alone and misunderstood. Not to mention the troubles of becoming a man. • Crystal " Passing Acquaintance - A young woman at a crossroads. She has similarities to Elsbeth. She is battling the fallout from a life changing choice and is drawn into the Kennedy family problems. I felt each character individually and their turmoil. Ms. Greenwood’s style of writing is wonderful and the flow of the storytelling was very well done. I was never confused and always had a clear view of whose portion of the story was being told. The beginning sequence of Grace really drew me in. Why would a father have a gun to his only son’s head? I can’t remember a book that had me wanting to sneak a peek at the ending more. It grabbed me, but the hold was not very strong. These characters were riddled with problems, secrets and oddities. This was a slow and agonizing journey for me. I think I didn’t like it 100% because I’m not used to this type of storytelling. There was no romance, suspense or reason for the story. Grace was a no holds bar look into the troubled lives of these four people. I saw the not so good, very bad and the disturbingly ugly. I was sad or angry throughout most of the story. This book really highlights the importance of open communication. Their personal problems were so apparent, but each had their own demons to fight and it was amazing how utterly alone they all felt. I wanted to help each of them so much, but I felt trapped watching their lives crumble. • Am I sorry I read Grace? No, not really • Will I be thinking about this novel in the near future? Yes, their stories were that heartbreaking • Will I read other books written by Ms. Greenwood? Hmmm, I’m not sure. I don’t like sad stories. So all-in-all, Grace is a very well written book. I cannot fault Ms. Greenwood on the quality of the story, writing or development of the characters. It just isn’t my cup of tea. I read to escape and this story was not an escape for me. Ms. Greenwood does live up to her title of the “family-damage specialist”. After reading this story I need a quick dose of happily ever after.

The Rake

, May 13, 2012
Special note: This is a rerelease of the award winning 1989 novel The Rake and the Reformer. As the author has noted, the story has been polished but the plot remains the same. An unconventional partnership turns to love. Two very unlikely people are about to meet. Country life in Dorset is going to get very interesting. How can an alcoholic and a female estate manager find their happily ever after? It will not be an easy road. Especially when there are three wards, an evil advisory and a secret past that will get in the way. Reginald lost his whole family and was taken in by his uncle at a very young age. He went from a beautiful loving child to a sad lonely boy and then eventually became bitter angry adult. He was never good enough for his uncle and could do nothing right, so he didn’t. The only thing he ever excelled at was drinking and womanizing. He was raised to eventually take on the role as Earl of Wargrave, but even that was taken from him, when a lost relative was located. Now he survives on the goodwill of the new Earl, his younger cousin Richard. Richard is about to change Reggie’s life forever. He is taking away his allowance and giving him some responsibility. He is going to sign over the Strickland estate in Dorset to Reggie. The last place he ever expected to return. For four years Alys has been the estate manager of Strickland. The original owner never checked on the property, just collected the monies earned. The earl never knew he hired a woman. Richard Davenport, the new earl, has only inspected the property once. Since Alys has plenty of notice, she was able to avoid meeting him, hence keeping her secret a little longer. Now she really has a problem. The Earl of Wargrave has signed over ownership to his cousin. A cousin Alys has heard many rumors about and they have not been very good. What will she do? How can she convince the new owner to allow her to keep her position? She needs this employment, because she also has guardianship of three young wards. Alys has a past that she must keep hidden and Reggie won’t have a future unless he can straighten out his life. These two have a very long hard road ahead of them and there are many obstacles that they have to hurdle. But if they can open their hearts and heal their past hurts, maybe they can each find happiness. I will admit that I have not read many historical romances. I have many under my belt, but I missed the historical craze years ago, but it is one of many genres I currently enjoy. Even though I don’t have the background of reading dozens upon dozens of historical romances I can say this about The Rake, I have never read a novel like this one before. The hero is an in-your-face but in denial alcoholic and the heroine is a strong willed woman, working in a man’s field when that was rarely if ever done in this time period. All I can say is WOW! What a great story! The Rake was involved, emotion filled and well written. This might be a romance novel, but the sex is behind closed doors and it happens very late in the story. I did miss it, but Ms. Putney more than made up for it in plot. You get so involved with the novel that you don’t even realize what you are missing. The Rake is an exceptional story that I would highly recommend. The story was amazingly developed, the characters where complex and engaging and the book as a whole, kept me riveted and glued to my seat. This book is a keeper in my mind and I will be looking for more novels written by Ms. Putney. She has another devoted fan.

Welcome to the scandalous lives of two women. These ladies will do what needs to be done to take care of everything they hold dear. Be it their lives, family or the all mighty dollar. Grab a seat and enjoy the show, because Deja and Treasure are in the house and they are ready to rock your world. All Monica ever wanted was to be happily married and to take care of her family. She had that until her husband wanted a new life and his wife and children were standing in his way. Now Monica is having trouble making ends meet and has no skills other than wife and mother to fall back on. After months of job searching she must do what needs to be done to take care of her girls. She is going to take a position at Scandalous Gentlemen’s Club. Now she needs to keep her deep dark secret separate from her normal life. Monica is the new dancer Deja. Tall men, short men, fat men, skinny men, and men of avery color " all are good men as long as they bring their billfolds. The only thing Robin, a.k.a. Treasure, wants is their money. She will work all that she was blessed with, because the only one she can count on is herself. Now she must revisit a time in her life she would rather forget. See the problem is, now it’s not only Robin. She has been made guardian of her young nephew. As the mystery of why her sister is in jail unfolds, Robin begins to understand that she may have to use her body one more time to fix what is broken. Ms. Campbell did a wonderful job intertwining these two totally different women. She kept their voices completely separated and the nuances of their lives perfectly written and balanced. These ladies may have begun on entirely different planes, but in the end they are almost as one. I can see their relationship being around for a very long time. The mystery behind their two lives is brilliantly portrayed and nothing was given away. I was cheering for their victories and shocked at the ending. I really enjoyed the book once I got into the groove of it. I will say that it did take me a bit of time to gel with some of the characters. It wasn’t the characters per say, but their vernacular. I can see the reasoning behind the cultural language; it just took some time to get used to. It played well with the plot, the locale and even the rough and hard characters. It’s something that I’m not used to in mainstream fiction. Once I was absorbed into the world, it flowed off the pages and played vividly in my mind. Scandals is a tantalizing look into the lives of strippers. You are able to experience both sides of the coin. The woman who needs to strip because it’s the only thing she can do and the other who does it because she enjoys the work and way of life. Ms. Campbell drew me in and had me vested in these two woman’s lives. She also threw in a deep plot full of mystery and murder. Too many lives are involved and there are too many secrets. It’s only a matter of time before the secrets of their lives are revealed and nobody knows who will be left standing. Pick up Scandals if you want something a bit different, very tantalizing and sexy hot!

Demons Bride

When I read the first installment of the series, I could see the building blocks being laid and set. Since Ms. Archer had accomplished that task so well in Devil’s Kiss, she released the second installment of the Hellraisers series; Demon’s Bride, full steam and doesn’t look back. Leo Bailey was gifted from the Devil, the ability to see the future by. All he needs is an item from a person and he can see the disasters that will plague the owner. He then uses that knowledge for evil and personal gain. Either pushing that person towards their inevitable disastrous future or plainly betting against them. Leo’s passion is the exchange market and he uses his talent to control every aspect of it. Because of his cunning and skill, he is simply known as Demon. While Anne Hartfield may be the daughter of a baron, she knew from the very beginning her marriage to Leo was not a love match. He dutifully wooed and courted her, but the love spark was never there. All her hopes blossomed on her wedding night to only be crushed just as quickly. Now she is determined to make the best of her marriage. She will do everything in her power to win her husband’s heart. From the first “I Do’s” things begin to change for these two people. Neither expected what was in store for them and quickly things begin to turn. Good, evil and other forces are converging to shape the future. It’s too bad Leo can’t see what is ahead for himself, because he never expected to fall in love with his wife and that very well may ruin his life forever. In my opinion, Ms. Archer has improved on the series. I loved how Demon’s Bride had more of a sinister feeling to it. You can’t help but hate the Hellraisers. They are marvelously evil, encompassing all of man’s sins. While their power may focus on one attribute, you can feel the lust, greed, wickedness and power radiating off of all them. Ms. Archer did an outstanding job writing them with malevolence and still make them all seem human. I enjoyed how Anne was so willing to make the best of her circumstances and didn’t cower. She showed such strength throughout the story, when most women of that time would have crumbled. The turmoil that she put Leo through was just as delightful. Everyday his reserve was crumbling as he fell for Anne. I was utterly shocked at some of the sad developments in the story. In an odd way, I can agree with the choices that were made, though they must have been hard decisions to make for the storyline. I am absolutely bewildered and have no idea which direction the series will take now. This new development has thrown me and I actually find it wonderful. Ms. Archer has removed the predictability that some series encounter and she has made me want the next story even the more. Demon’s Bride is a remarkable historical paranormal that has a familiarity feel to it right along with an unpredictability too. Zoe Archer has written an innovative novel that is sexy, beautiful and suspenseful.

The Jackson brothers are on a mission. They may not believe the rumors that they are the prophesized Chosen, but they can’t let evil reign. They need to find the three sections of the Book of Legend. It will take recombining the Book to stop the archdemon lord, Rathe, from opening the Gates of Nyx, a portal between the human and Darkin realm. Many years ago Winchester Jackson gave up hunting for the quiet life. He prefers being the sheriff for Bodie over hunting down Darkin, the supernatural children of the night that prey on humans. Things are heating up though and the Darkin are seeking out Winn. All he wants is to be left alone, but when the Darkin want your help to stop their enemy, you tend to take notice. Contessa Drossenburg, Alexandra Porter has come to persuade Winchester to aid her people with finding the last third of the Book. Vampires have guarded the Book for over six centuries and it has been stolen. One would think they wouldn’t want or need the help of a hunter, but when their way of life and food supply are being threatened, they will do anything to stop the threat, including working with their sworn enemy. Winn and Alexandra’s adventure takes them around the world. From the first moment they meet, they are attracted to each other. Their attraction almost jumps off the pages. While this book is very light on sex, it is filled with sexual tension. These are two people, who should not want each other, but something is pulling them together and there seems to be nothing they can do about it. The Slayer may be book two in The Legend Chronicles, but personally I think it could be read anytime so far in the series. The Hunter and The Slayer run simultaneously. While The Hunter goes into a little more detail of the battle ahead, there is enough information in The Slayer, you won’t be lost. I’m sorry to say, but I’m just not feeling this book 100%. The story as a whole is good. I love the idea, but something was missing. Character development focused mainly on the two protagonists, leaving me wanting in regards to secondary characters and the villain. In fact, the villain didn’t seem very villain-ish at all. However, Rathe’s evil behavior does play a larger role in The Hunter. He almost seemed like an afterthought in this book. He loomed in the background and then once the showdown was upon us, it was just over. The ending is probably one of the most rushed I have ever read. I was getting down to the last dozen pages thinking something was wrong. It can’t be ending and then suddenly was resolved. There was tons of build up and then a simple unfulfilling resolution. This might be something that would be hard to remedy though. All three brothers need to find their portion of the Book before there can be a conclusion. I am not sure how it will all play out, but I am still interested in the outcome. The more I think about it, I can see this series improving once all the books are written. This would allow the reader to enjoy the books as one big novel. The Slayer didn’t even have a cliffhanger. It just left me hanging. While it may appear that I don’t like the series, I really do. It’s is action packed and the universe is fun to read about. That is probably the genius of Ms. Meyers. I am frustrated with this particular book, but the desire to know what is going to happen is pulling me in and holding on. I believe this series is still a winner and I’m looking forward to Remington’s story, The Chosen. It is scheduled for release March 2013. There is also a rumor of a novella for the fun and funky inventor of the series, Marley Turlock. It looks like it should be coming out late 2012, YAY!!

I have been looking forward to this story from the very first time I found out about Conn and Moira. Ms. Zanetti didn’t disappoint either! Book three in the Dark Protector series is just as riveting as the first. Over 100 years ago, their one night stand changed their destinies; they are mates. Conn believed that he was doing what was best for her and their future by signing a treaty that would give her time to come into her powers. What he doesn’t know is that that one act may have just closed her heart to him forever. Moira knows that her body craves Conn and has done so since the very beginning. What she can’t accept is his choice to walk away from her and leaving their love behind. How can she trust his feelings if it took him this long to return to her? Conn has spent the last 100 years in constant torment. He walked away from his mate, but she was such a young woman and still had not experienced life. Even though every breath he took, he was drawn to her, he had to hold strong to give her time. He used his time wisely, honing his powers and learning all he could about his woman. The time has come. Now he wants what is rightfully his and he will do anything to have her. War has erupted in the realm and allegiances are being tested. There is also a new enemy so strong that they seem to be able to steal witches away without any trace. Now may not be the best time to claim his mate, but Conn is not going to risk losing Moira to politics and petty bickering. She is his main concern and he is determined to figure out what is happening. The problem is, Moira has many secrets Conn didn’t know about, but he also has a few tricks up his sleeve. These two are in for some shocking revelations. Ms. Zanetti has done it again. Her writing is strong and consistent and the plot is new and exciting. I enjoyed seeing old friends and having the plotline move along and not be stagnant. She has continued to write a solid story with engaging characters you what to know, enemies you fear but are captivated by and a universe that is fascinating and appealing. She never gave any clues to who the bad guy or gal was and kept me planted in my seat until the very last page. Bravo on keeping this series action packed, sexy hot and original. I am looking forward to the continued adventures of the realm. Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series is a must read for me. She has forever placed herself on my “Authors to Read” list.

It had been awhile since I discovered Shelly Laurenston, so I had to do a bit of catching up and reacquainting myself to the storylines again. I did a quick reread of the series and enjoyed every single morsel. By the time I cracked this baby open, I was raring to go with a great big smile on my face. There is just something about Ms. Laurenston’s humor. Sometimes when you read a book the snarkiness or humor can grate on you, but I have never gotten tired of her writing style. That really says something considering I had to read six books back to back and I still wanted and craved more, more, more. I was practically gitty when I started Bear Meets Girl, number seven in her Pride series. While I was reading this series, I had a girlfriend having a really bad day. I didn’t waste one second contemplating if I should share a little Shelly lovin’. I gathered up my books to share with her so she could turn her frown upside down. Ms. Laurenston does that for me every time with oodles of grins, giggles and lots of laugh out loud moments. Someone is killing off their kind. Hunting them down for sport and practically bragging about it. All shifters need to band together to take this person down. Not everyone likes to play nicely and tempers are easily flared. From one problem to the next, Marcella and Lou’s attraction become apparent. Their bond is forming no matter what they do, but together they are unstoppable. Add in several of my other favorite characters from prior books and this book is a whirlwind of adventure and hilarity. Bear Meets Girl is a wonderful story of opposites attracts. Lou is your quiet loner, who is being forced to make a change he is very unhappy about and Marcella is an independent hellfire of a woman who would rather shot you than take you prisoner. She is fun loving and loyal and not afraid to show it. These two are combustible from the very beginning. Marcella is merciless in her pursuit to bring Lou out of his mancave and Lou fought her the whole way. Ms. Laurenston writes hot steamy romance, fun filled dialog, side-splitting scenes and kick butt characters. With her strong wonderful females and masculine secure males, she keeps me coming back for more. The action is intense and packed; the romance is sweltering and hot; and the plot is solid and adventurous. She has a natural ability to write serious scenes right along with hilarious ones; her flow is smooth, funny and simply ingenious at times. Bear Meets Girl is a blast from the very first line to the last. Ms. Laurenston has done it again. She left me wanting more and loving every moment of it. This is a wonderful addition to the series.

Eternity's Mark

Nothing beats a brand new adventure and then add in dragons, count me in. Action, alternate worlds, undying love, a secret legacy and the beauty of Scotland are all wrapped up in Eternity’s Mark. Hannah has no idea that she is the last of her kind and is content to live out the remaining of her life in her small town. She has lost the love of her life and has no plans to move on, no matter what the town plans. They believe that it is time for her to move on and have plotted against her to help find a new love. She scoffs at their foolish tactics and squashes every trick they pull. She was not prepared for the likes of Taggart though. Taggart de Gaelson has searched high and low for Hannah and will do everything but kidnap her to bring her back to her rightful home, Taroc Na Mor. After meeting the tiny woman and dealing with her, he is reevaluating his grand plan. She is strong willed and stubborn, but he hasn’t lived as long as he has to let this little spitfire ruin his plans and the future of his people. Let the battle of wills begin. Eternity’s Mark has a totally new feel for me. It had simplicity to it, yet the details of the world building were imaginative and striking. The story was complex as a whole but while reading Eternity’s Mark I was never confused or lost. Ms. Greyson has developed a fascinating new universe filled with fantastical creatures built around a beautiful and imaginative legend. This is an extremely easy read. While the romance had a strong presence in the story, the history of the Draecna is what caught my attention. This is by no means an explicit sexual novel. Ms. Greyson has written a sensual love story that captures your heart. It is a very sweet touching tale. I did find some of the conclusions in the story too quickly resolved with “aha” moments that had me scratching my head thinking “how in the world did they come up with that”. The foundation of the story was strong, but it just missed something to bring it on up to the next level for me. Eternity’s Mark is a good story to read if you want something sweet and entertaining. A very pleasant read, with sexy Scotsmen, an amazing alternate world and a break your heart love story. Oh yeah and dragons too!

Curses

This has been one of the best stories that I have read in a long time. If you like your fairytales with butterflies and charming princes this story is not for you. Welcome to the dark side of fairytales! Cinderella has just been murdered and her ugly stepsister, Asia, wants to know why. Things are not what they appear though and she hires RJ to find out what really happened to Cinderella. To start things off, Asia doesn’t know that RJ is not who she thinks he is. He is a villain on medical leave. But what is a villain to do when he is broke and a hot sexy woman asks for your help and all he wants to do is help her get out of her skintight outfit? Help the poor girl, of course. Their investigation takes them from one end of the kingdom to the other. No one can be trusted, because everyone is a suspect. I was snorting and laughing so hard while I was reading that I may have actually had an accident. This story is so demented and twisted that only the truly sick of minds will appreciate it. Well that is not true; anyone with a solid sense of humor will devour it, but be prepared to be shocked and awestruck. Kazimer is a brilliant writer who took a simple sweet tale and made it her own. Her sense of humor is almost scary at times and you wonder if she was sober when she wrote Curses. Someone asked me what I was reading and I told them it was a story about fairytales on crack or a really bad acid trip. They laughed and of course asked for the title. Curses is definitely an adult read and I’m so excited that she is continuing with the F**ked Up Fairytale series. She has dumped my views of classic fairytales on their collective butts and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for me. There are countless characters that you loved as a child, but told in such an innovative light that you soon forget how they once were and embrace the new, and in some cases improved characters. Curses! A F**ked Up Fairytale is a breath of fresh air; well not really, it is more like a hallucinogenic haze, but if you want the trip of your life " take a really deep breathe because trust me this is one trippy ride.

4.5 Stars Lovers separated by circumstance, brought back together by fate. This is the final book in the Lost Sons Trilogy. Trey March is returning to the JDB Ranch for one thing, the money that is owed to him. After recuperating from a vicious attack, he returns to the ranch and meets the one person who betrayed him the most, Daisy Barton. Her treachery runs deep, her silence of their relationship almost got him killed and he wants nothing to do with her. The problem is once he sets his eyes on her, old and new feelings collide leaving Trey bewildered. After hearing and seeing the state the ranch is in, the only thing he can do to secure his future is to work with the one person he despises most. Daisy has lost everything; her father, her lover and is about to lose the ranch. She was raised to become a wealthy rancher’s wife not to run one. She has no idea what to do and must rely on the foreman, Ned Durant, to guide her. Now Ned has proposed to her and she is seeing his intentions more clearly. He wants to own the ranch by any means necessary. Things change immediately when the last person she ever expected to see walks into her office demanding money. Too bad the ranch is broke and there is only one way Trey will get his due, he has to become the new foreman. As Trey and Daisy work together they discover the extent of the treachery that encircles them and their pasts. They must work together to save the ranch and each other. Day after day they learn what they lost, but until the entire truth comes out, neither will be totally happy. I have to admit that this is the first book of the trilogy that I read. After my first reading of the novel, I didn’t like it. When I request books to review, I stay away from series unless I have read the prior books. That was not the case here. On the major book sites there is no real indication that is last book in a trilogy. Even the cover doesn’t state it. So after reading it and being confused a bit and then annoyed at the end, I wasn’t able to give it a good review. I contacted the publisher and they allowed me to read/review the other two novels. I am so glad they did. Now that I have read the whole trilogy, this book is my favorite. It had passion, mystery, suspense and a touch of humor. It is a well written book that is simply divine. It is an easy read and relaxing too. I fell in love with the characters and enjoyed their journey back to each other. I appreciated how it brought the history/futures of the foster brothers all together. There was completion, even if the circumstances were rather fantastic. Yet if you look at the whole picture, you can call it fate or divine intervention. Either way these three men deserved all the happiness they found. This book is obviously written as a stand-alone, but I would highly recommend you read them all together, starting with A Cowboy Christmas and then In a Cowboy’s Arms. I say this from experience and like I stated before, I enjoyed this book much more after I had read the prior books. I am sorry to see this trilogy end. I loved the sexy cowboys and the high spirited women that tamed them. This trilogy is a wonderful easy going read that is pleasant and heart-warming, with just enough spice to get your pulse rising a bit. So head on out and rope up these books. They are a great treat for lonely nights and a sure way to get a cowboy fix.

4.5 Stars Amazing new take on vampires, Ms. Zanetti’s vampires are innovative and exciting! Emma Paulsen has been on the run for weeks. She is trying to escape the Kurjans and now also the Vampires. During her work as a geneticist she discovers that she isn’t researching a cure for cancer but something more sinister. Grabbing her research and running is her only option. A race of evil beings called Kurjans are hunting her down for more than her research though. While on the run she discovers another race of beings, the Vampires, enemies of the Kurjans. Unknown to her, one particular vampire wants more than the stolen research; he wants her as his mate. For several centuries Dage Kayrs has dreamed of his mate; her face, her body, her warm embrace. Now he knows she is out there and he is determined to find her. Not only to save her from the Kurjans, but to save himself. As King of the Realm he needs her to complete him. He knows she will be a hard woman to claim, but he is determined to have her anyways. This is the second book in Ms. Zanetti’s exciting new series. Her universe of vampires is refreshing and exhilarating. These are probably the most human vampires I have read about. While they have elements of some of my favorite vampires, they are in a class all their own. Both the Vampires and the Kurjans can only be male, so they have to look outside their race to find mates, but only certain females will work. They need females with physic abilities. The Kurjans have developed a virus that attacks the mates of the Vampires. Emma is in a race to find a cure to save both her sister and her unborn nephew. This series has a strong undercurrent of adventure, almost overshadowing the romance. The medical lingo and background does not take away from the general story, but enhances it. Ms. Zanetti has developed an engaging and exciting new world. The males in this series are a hard group to love. They are extremely alpha and exasperating at times. Their raw masculinity and power draw you in and holds on tight. Luckily the heroines are just as strong and know how to bring these big brutes to their knees. If you are looking for a new adventure in the paranormal world, look no further then this new series. Fated and Claimed both have heart pounding action and sizzling chemistry, what more can you ask for!

“Changeling Moon” is the first book in a new shapeshifter series. The second book is scheduled to come out June 28th, “Changeling Dream”. Zoey Tyler is the new editor for the town’s newspaper. She is a city girl who needed to get away for the big city and away from herself. She is fact driven and strong willed. She is enjoying the quiet life and the scenery. Zoey is not your typical woman. She has her own secrets and fears, and she wants them to stay hidden. Connor Macleod is the area veterinarian. He has an amazing gift that allows him to communicate with his patients. His life is his practice and his extended family " his pack. Conner is a changeling and now his and the packs way of life is in jeopardy. He will do all he can to protect it. One cold icy night and everyone’s life has changed forever. Now Zoey has been transformed into something she knows nothing about and Conner is drawn to Zoey to do more than just help her with her change. Problem is there is a force dead set on destroying them and the whole town. “Changeling Moon” is a nice read. While we see the couple is destined to be together and we know who the villain is, we still have surprises along the way. Ms. Harper has done a wonderful job helping us get to know the characters and her new take on the shapeshifter genre. I am looking forward to the next installment and was very pleasantly surprised that it is coming out within month of this books release. The Macleod’s we have met so far are amazing characters and I can’t wait to meet more of them. I recommend “Changeling Moon” for an effortless summer read. The story has all one needs for a good read…hot love scenes, hot men, and a touch of humor.

“Changeling Dream” is book two, following fast on the heels of book one “Changeling Moon”. “Changeling Dream” is set in northern Alberta, Canada, in Dunvegan. The area has been home of a Changeling pack for many decades. This series centers on the Macleod’s. Jillian Descharme has a painful past. With a little help from a savior, she is able to move past the pain and move on. She is now a veterinarian, and truly enjoys her job. With a new life and changes ahead of her, this strong woman takes on many new and exciting challenges. Though there is one she can do without, one that takes on the form of a Viking warrior. James Macleod knows sorrow and pain. For thirty years, he has run fast and far from it. Back then he lost everything he loved, his wife and unborn child. He may know sorrow and pain, but in all those years he has never dealt with it. James is reluctant to heal, but it is time. His wolf is ready to move on and with a lot of help, he will. Jillian’s past comes back in a surprising way. Years before, after an attack, she is saved by a beautiful white wolf. Well over a decade later, the wolf is back…but how? James is a Changeling, but for the last thirty years he has been living his life completely as a wolf. He is drawn back home and to a blonde beauty. He just can’t seem to understand why. “Changeling Dreams” is a book of healing. The injury is very old and it takes most of the book to fix it. The story is slow and steady, but in a good way. The healing is believable. There is no wonder drug or epic mind shattering revelation and WHAM James is all better. The journey you take with James is convincing and subtle. There are no quick fixes and that is what makes the journey so heartwarming. This storyline is what makes “Changeling Dream” different from your normal fast paced, sex filled paranormal read. Ms. Harper is dealing with feelings and emotions on a different level. She wrote a believable plot and was consistent and meticulous in regards to James’ healing. I enjoyed that I was able to tag along with him. Yes, I wanted the action and the sex, but after reading the whole story I understood that it was not what James and Jillian needed. In the end, I applaud Ms. Harper for staying true to James. I will be waiting patiently for the next installment, “Changeling Dawn” coming out January 2012.

This series has grabbed me from the very beginning. Changeling Dawn is book three. I’m not sure what it is; the wolves, the history of the changelings, the intriguing storylines, the feeling of family or even that the author is from Alaska. I’m not sure, but Ms. Harper has sunk her claws in me and won’t let go! Kenzie Macleod is a Changeling. It is all she has ever known. During her long life, she has lived in fear though. As a child she had a life altering event and to this day, it still forms her life, love and dreams. Josh Talarkoteen has been to war and back. He survived an awful tragedy in Afghanistan, but returned to the states a broken man. Though years have passed and the memories have seemed to subside, he is still not over the pain. A scared and abandoned little girl forces their buried memories to resurface. They must work through their pasts to help Anya and possibly each other. They will do everything in their power to protect Anya, even die for her. Ummm WOW!!! Each of the novels in this series has been unique and Changeling Dawn is simply great. They all can be read alone, but why do that when you can enjoy the other two in the series too? As a whole the series is a breath of fresh air; they almost have a calming effect for me. There is action, love, sex and history, but there is much more to these books. They are well thought out and the characters are personable. Nothing is too over the top, just well written stories with heart. Changeling Dawn tells the story of the remaining unmated daughter of the Macleod clan. She is a strong woman and very independent. From the moment she meets Josh she knows there is heat between them, but she refuses to have a relationship with a human. This barrier plagues them through the book and I have to give it to Josh and his tenacity while pursuing her. Josh is a wonderful match for Kenzie and I loved his personality and determination. You could see the strength in him, but he was never a pushy alpha like some heroes in romance novels. He was not afraid to put himself out there for her or even Anya. He is definitely a man of great worth. Ms. Harper really delivers with this story. The action was tense and the love scenes between Kenzie and Josh were sweet. I also enjoyed that we learned a bit more about Changelings. She has done a wonderful job with the world building in this series. I give two thumbs way up for this book and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the twins’ stories. These two men are going to need some feisty women to tame them and I can’t wait.

Jonny, owner of Bloodrose, just received an interesting offer. He has a chance to expand his business, to build an extended stay play club on 600 acres in the Cascade Mountains. There is no time to waste, let the construction begin! It’s Elemental by Julia Talbot Werewolf construction foreman Chayton just can’t seem to understand his attraction to designer Kenneth. Kenneth is completely annoying and Chayton’s urge to choke him is immense. The problem is, he also desires him, in a dark passionate needy way. Kenneth is just as attracted to Chayton. Their obsession is amazing and together they make the earth move. This is a perfect introduction to the story. Sex is fast and furious, passion is heated and heady. Chayton and Kenneth are polar opposites that come together beautifully, two strong men meant to be together. The reason for their attraction is beautifully told and enhanced the story wonderfully. The Third Course by BA Tortuga Stephan and Marco rule the kitchens at Cereus. Their word is law and final. Stephan is the Executive Chef and Marco is the Pastry Chef. Twin werecats that are inseparable and volatile at best are suddenly complete when Bar Manager Faelan shows up. Faelan, a seductively gorgeous werewolf, is thrown for a loop upon meeting the twins. He instantly wants them both and he set out to seduce them with his dominate and alluring ways. Now he just needs to discover if he is strong enough to handle his two iron-willed kitties. The subject matter is extremely taboo, but written in a way that made you appreciate the beauty of it. These two brothers are two halves of a whole. I don’t believe either could survive without the other. The twins are like yen and yang. They need each other like air. Faelan is a beautiful dominate male. Able to laugh at himself, be strong when the boys need him to be and also be a tender lover. These three men are pure poetry together. Smoke and Gold by Sean Michael Zee, the big bad head dominate of Cereus and Daniel, the owner of the land that Cereus sits on literally collide. Right from the beginning the chemistry is smokin’. There are not too many couplings that are more dominate then a demon and a dragon. Both powerful beings are used to being on top of their lives and their sex partners. But someone will have to give to make this work, now which of the two men will be strong enough to release some of their control and submit? I was smiling from the get-go, rubbing my hands together in anticipation. Zee and Daniel are two of the strongest personalities in the novel. To bring them together as a couple is genius and the story is a blast to read. I’m not about to give a single clue, about who came out on top. Their relationship is the most enjoyable of the book, probably because you could just envision the constant combustion between the two men. I adored them! I felt that BDSM is used lightly in this book. Cereus is being built as a BDSM resort. It is an exclusive club for paranormals who wish to partake in erotic play for the body and the senses. Playrooms are mentioned but never used, due to the fact they are under construction. Light bondage, spankings, sensory games and D/s relationships are apparent and used during sexual encounters, but didn’t overpower the story. The three authors did a great job collaborating on the different tales. You understand that the stories are happening concurrently and I personally enjoyed have the other couples show up while reading. The book is sensually written and the strong foundations of the relationships are evident. I am looking forward to the continuation of this series. Cereus: The Building is three delicious stories all woven together to make an incredible tapestry of erotic pleasures. The imagination soars at the possibilities of endless sexual delights and forbidden fantasies that await you at Cereus. Make your reservations today!

3.5 Stars Bound by Night is a sensual tale of old school vampire lore, filled with burning passion and the hurdles lovers will endure to keep it. Elena Knightsbridge is a young woman who has had a hard life. After the death of her parents she is relocated to Romania to her Aunt’s home. Years later and after more loss in her life, she is isolated and trapped with her Uncle who has just proposed marriage to her. With nothing to her name, she does the only thing she can do to escape " RUN! Drake Sherrad has lived for over 500 years. Times have changed and he is starting to question his existence. On the night he finds Elena in his home, he is intrigued with her. He has something new and challenging to discover not to mention tasty too. Panicked and scared, Elena runs out into the night to the only place she can go for the time being, the abandoned Wolfram Castle. The castle is far from abandoned. Drake returns home after a night of hunting and finds the alluring creature in his lair. Their attraction is immediate, but is cultivated slowly over time. Their love is forbidden and riddled with challenges. As we venture into the secret world of vampires we are taken on a journey of unbridled passion, deception and change. The story had a familiarity to it, but yet felt unique. Drake had abilities that fell into the mysterious category and these vampires really did have an old world feeling about them. Elena is a modern woman, but she grew up old fashioned due to the remoteness of rural Romania. Bound by Night is very sensual. The sex is obvious but not described in details. The acts of seduction and kissing were more in depth. Your imagination has the ability to soar and blossom under Ms. Ashley’s storytelling. Her new vampire universe has some incredible twists and turns in it, along with the warm comfort of the familiar. The potential of the series is fascinating and will be a pleasure to read. I’m ready to dive right into the second book in the series " Bound by Blood " available now.

Today is the beginning of Sloan Skye’s dreams coming true. She is starting her first day as an intern for the FBI. Well that is what she thought when she left the chaos of her apartment this morning. Now she is shattered, there has been a mistake and her position has just been stolen by her old high school crush turned frenemy, Gabe Wagner. Total desperation and the desire to not have a repeat performance of last summer’s job, she jumps at the change to work for the FBI in any way shape or form. Well she probably should have done a bit of research first. She just got hired as an intern for the PBAU, Paranormal Behavioral Analysis Unit. Yes, paranormals like vampires and other creatures of the unknown. Who knew they existed…Sloan sure doesn’t believe it…yet. Sloan tries to delve into her job with an open mind, but being the daughter of two brilliant people, this is a tough one to swallow. Believing isn’t her only problem. She is now having realistic dreams and frightening memories that are unsettling to her and may be related to the unusual case they are working. Sloan has just entered a whole new world. A world she never knew existed, but a world that already knew about her. Blood of Eden is a good story, but I wasn’t totally absorbed by the storyline. The set up of the series was well thought out and detailed. Ms. Dane has developed a fantastic universe and I am still intrigued by the plot, though I felt bogged down at times. She definitely has a new take on the paranormal, even delving into not well known creatures of lore and history. I found it very fascinating and I am looking forward to the next installment. I like to think that now that the ground work has been laid the next book will blow me away with the creatures, characters and storytelling. Blood of Eden is a detailed oriented foundation to a potentially refreshing paranormal series. Mystery and intrigue, new exciting paranormal creatures, and the possibility of a love triangle thrown in; what more can a reader ask for?

Blood and Bullets

3.5 Stars Monsters need not apply! Deacon Chalk lost everything the night his entire family was killed by your kind. Now with nothing left to lose, he lives to hunt you. He is a bounty hunter with a little extra, and that little extra is going to take you down. Deacon is one big strong scary looking man. Humans and monsters alike fear him. He is a no nonsense man that protects the innocent. After losing his family, he changed completely. He closed his tattoo parlor and opened a strip club. It’s not your normal strip club either. All employees have been touched by the evil of monsters and now they are a family. Brought together by circumstances that was out of their control. Deacon may be the head of this ragtag group, but he works alone. Now there is a new force in town; one that even has the monsters looking over their shoulders. From the first strike to the last, Deacon will not stop until it has been destroyed. Even if it the last thing he ever does. This is urban fantasy that takes no prisoners. The monsters are evil and must be stopped, PERIOD, and Deacon is the perfect hero to do it. Blood and Bullets is a story told in Deacon’s point of view. He has a very strong personality and voice, but you can feel his pain and commitment coming through. This is a man with a mission and you best stay the heck out of his way. My favorite line in the book is; “And vampires never sparkle unless they just ate a stripper.” I literally cracked up. It was just perfect. I enjoyed reading about Deacon and his kick-butt crew. These characters live in an ugly world, but they have each other and will die to protect it. The action is intense and messy. I like to get down and dirty and Blood and Bullets is just the book to take me there. I liked the gritty and dark feeling to the story and the razor sharp edge. While Mr. Tuck was repetitive at times in regards to explanations of guns, cars and such; I still found the overall story well written and exciting. Now that the world building is done, he can blow us away with his dark take of the underworld. Blood and Bullets is a great start to a new series. I can see great potential in this series and I can’t wait for the next installment.

All Caught Up

Sophia Shaw

This is the first book from Sophia Shaw that I’ve read and I doubt it will be the last! Jasmine is a woman I would be honored to call friend. She is levelheaded, smart, funny and very kind. She has always been a woman to help someone in need. After years working for others, she decided to take her ability to help people to the next level and started her own dating service. Her unique ability to match people is amazing and her business is growing exponentially. Busy beyond belief and surprisingly happy in her life, Jasmine is content. She didn’t realize she was missing anything until she finally meets her most difficult client face to face. Robert has led a charmed life. Growing up Minneapolis he fell in love with hockey. He had a natural ability for the sport and it led him to play for the NHL and the highlife. Fast times and fast women, he thought he had it all. Nothing could have been further than the truth. Widowed and injured, he decides it’s time to retire. Several years later and his priorities reevaluated, he is now a bestselling author. To keep his family off his back about moving on and finding love, he decides he needs a date for his brother’s wedding. He sure wasn’t expecting the lovely lady that walked into the hotel lobby. Jasmine and Robert meet due to a cancelled date. They hit it off immediately and find they enjoy each other’s company. Neither went into this relationship expecting much, but came out of it in love. All Caught Up was a wonderful novel. I think the best description I can find for this story is that it is an easy book; easy to love, easy to read, and easy to connect with. Ms. Shaw was phenomenal with the details, her continuity was spot on and the emotions she evoked were poignant. I started this book in the evening thinking I could get a few chapters in before bed. Well at 4:30 am I finished it. I could not put it down. It flowed so naturally and I enjoyed it right from the very first page. There is no drama, mystery or suspense, just a lovely story of two people coming together. I was so emotionally invested that even though I knew a scene was coming up and the likely outcome, I raged at the character and felt all the way to my toes. That is storytelling at its best. All Caught Up is a sensually gripping novel. It is a relaxing effortless story. It is a nice change of pace to sit back and enjoy a book for its simplicity. I was engaged with the characters and enjoyed every splendid word. I highly recommend this romance. I loved, loved, loved it!!

A Cowboy Christmas

Janette Kenny

4.5 Stars I’m not a huge lover of holiday themed books, but I am a lover of Janette Kenny. This is the second book I have read from her and I do believe I am hooked. Ellie Jo Cade is a woman on a mission. She must save her father from trouble. She has come to Maverick, Wyoming to work as a housekeeper to be able to spend the Christmas holiday with her long lost father and to convince him to give up his vision of revenge. Her father doesn’t want her there and despite that she stays on, but doesn’t have a clue what to do in the kitchen. She works hard and is bound and determined to make it work. Though the job is only until the beginning of the year, she puts her whole heart into it. Too bad she is losing her heart to the owner of the Crown Seven Ranch, Reid Barclay. Reid is in trouble. In a week he is marrying a woman he feels obligated to marry, but doesn’t love, needs to find his two foster brothers and he also needs to come up with enough money to buy out the final shares to the ranch. Now his temporary housekeeper is stirring feelings in him he hasn’t felt in over year and his prize possession has been stolen. Can a rancher ever catch a break? Both Ellie and Reid have had hard childhoods. Ellie’s was filled with an absent father and Reid’s was filled with complete desertion. Ellie never gave up hope or love for her father and though she knew they would never have a fulfilling father/daughter relationship, she still loved him with all her heart. Reid on the other hand has never known love until he was a teenager. The moment he found his foster father, Kirby Morris, he finally knew what it felt like to have a family and he is determined to never lose that feeling. Now he is in the fight of his life to save his home. He doesn’t have time to deal with his growing feelings for Ellie. He has a ranch to save for himself and his brothers. Duty calls and Reid will do anything that needs to be done. Lately some of my books have been exhausting to read, drawing out emotions that were draining and just tiring me out completely. What I loved about this book is I was not frustrated, annoyed, or angry. I felt a loving glow from start to finish. This warm feeling had nothing to do with the holiday, but with the love that Ellie and Reid provoked in me. This simply is a feel-good book. On that note, if you want a solid holiday themed book you will not find it here. Christmas was the holiday, but not the focus of the story. I am going to devour all the books in The Lost Sons Trilogy. Next book in the series is In a Cowboy’s Arms and then the new release Cowboy Come Home. I am definitely in the mood for hot sizzling cowboys and the women that drive them crazy. Bring on the steam!

Kiss Me Crazy: The Fitzgerald Family
by
E. B. Walters

There is something special about this family. The Fitzgerald’s are vibrant, fun loving and loyal. I would be more than happy to call any one of them my friend, well maybe not Aunt Viv. Kiss Me Crazy is book three in The Fitzgerald Family series and it is a winner!! Kara’s friend Renee does a great job explaining the appeal of Baron: “Sweetie, that man with his sculptured body, brooding blue eyes, and sinfully silky voice is every woman’s type.” He just seems to ooze sex appeal right from the start. In fact, I was feeling it from the very first moment when he was introduced in prior books. And all that appeal has been a problem for Kara. She has been attracted to Baron from the beginning and this attraction is getting in the way of her future plan and dreams. It’s time to head out on her own and she resigns from Baron’s company to start her own business. Baron is shell shocked! His plans of wooing Kara have just been derailed. She is leaving him. Fine, see if he cares. Problem is he does care, a lot. He needs to come up with a plan to win her heart and to keep her by his side. They have something real together and he is not going to let that go to waste. With only one month to change her mind, he needs to work fast, very fast. Baron’s plan works perfectly. He has Kara right where he wants her, then tragedy strikes. They are pulled into two different directions and it will take a little Fitzgerald family interference to get these two fools back on track. For me, Kiss Me Crazy was a nice change of pace. The last two books have been high suspense and action. This book was all heart and heartbreak. Some readers may have a problem with Ms. Walters’ changing from her normal suspenseful storytelling to this calmer format, but I loved it! She is keeping it fresh and new. I enjoyed Baron and Kara’s journey to find each other; their ups and downs, their tragic loss and then their eventual happiness. The pacing was great, plot was refreshing, and their passion burned up the pages. I also fell more in love with this family. Which trust me is not hard to do. Kiss Me Crazy is a fantastic story. It can be read alone or as part of the series, but I highly recommend reading the whole series. I loved this story from the first paragraph; “I quit! Now kiss me and beg me to stay.” to the last; “Your intentions are duly noted. Now, come to me.” Grinning, he joined her. I hope you will too.

Fever

Joan Swan

4.5 Stars - Great suspenseful read! I’m going to start this review a bit differently. A lot of people don’t give this book a chance because of racial slurs and downright ugly language. Yes, this book has those factors in it, but it is not the book. The individual who talks like that doesn’t last long. This is NOT his story. It’s an unpleasant reality that there are people out there that still think and talk like this, but like I said…It is a reality. I have to give kudos to the author for not sugar coating the truth no matter how objectionable it is. Teague had it all once upon a time. A loving wife, a beautiful child and a career he enjoyed immensely. One tragic event changed his life forever, unbeknown to him. From that moment on, his life took a downhill plummet. He has lost nearly everything and now he has nothing left to lose. Determined to take back the one thing that is most precious in his life; he takes a chance and breaks out of prison. Now all he has to do is reach his final goal and to hell with everyone in his way. Dr. Alyssa Foster is having a really tough day. Exhausted and beat, she has no idea she just entered a storm. Now she is being held captive by two men; one who does nothing but hate her for living and the other that confuses her all the way down to her toes. No matter what, she must survive. She has too much to live for and she has worked too hard to let these men ruin her life. Things don’t look promising for these escapees. If they are not fighting among themselves, they have gangs, the police and an unknown entity after them. They are running out of time and things are not looking better but worse. This is one high octane ride! Fever is sexy, dark, mysterious and kick-butt. I loved the chemistry between Teague and Alyssa. She is one smart cookie and she doesn’t take any crap. Their adventure is definitely a roller coaster ride from start to finish. In her blurb about herself, Ms. Swan mentions that she writes romance suspense with a paranormal twist. I would agree. While this story is NOT a paranormal romance, it does have a different element/feel to it. I would have to compare it to Spiderman, if you will. Parker got bit by the radioactive spider and now he has these amazing abilities. I know it’s kind of geekish of me to compare it like that, but that is the best comparison that I could come up with. So there is no supernatural in this book, just the unnatural. This is romance with a little extra edge. It works - trust me! Heck, if you don’t pick up the book for the cover alone, I would have to question your sanity, just kidding. Fever really is a great read. Full of suspense and action, but tender loving moments that steamed up my glasses. If Ms. Swan is making this a series, I’m on board and will be in line for the next installment. I loved her voice and she knows how to write hot sexy romance with clever dialog. These are all bonuses in my view. Great job and well done!!
