Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Surfacing

This book was reccommended to me as my introduction to Atwood's work. A beautiful book! Atwood takes you on an enthralling journey which at times becomes uncomfortable, but her ability to affect the reader in that way amazes me. She adds a touch of the bizarre in the end and there is no other way to describe it. This also runs rampant in another of her wonderful works, Oryx and Crake. It is bizarre to me because she is never afraid to say what others would never even touch. I am consuming this wonderful honesty!

Victory Garden Kids Book

This book is a perfect guide for starting and maintaining a garden with children. The first half talks about preparation, composting, and organically controlling pests. The second half focuses on thirty easy-to-grow crops (veggies and flowers). Each entry tells you how to plant it, how much room it needs, where it should go in your garden, and how/when to harvest. My school group used this book to start our garden and I'm even using it at home with my own garden!
