Black City Black Wings 5
by
Christina Henry
literaladdiction
, December 28, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *ARC provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review I have a handful of favorite Urban Fantasy series. BLACK WINGS is definitely one of them, and while some series start to get a little stale by about book #5, this series just gets better, and better, and BETTER with each book that Christina releases! My first words after finishing Black City were "Whoa! Just whoa! Even darker, just as gripping, action packed as usual, and dare I say... SEXY! :) I love this series so very much!" Christina is definitely embracing her dark side, and I am positively giddy about it. LOL. Following the mystifying events in Black Lament, there were countless ways that Christina could have gone with Black City. Out of all of the possibilities that I had floating around in my head though, nothing was as good as the way it actually turned out. The intensity of the action, the depth of the story, the emotion embedded in the dialogue and the choices that were made were wonderful and I absolutely couldn't get enough. And while BLACK WINGS is an Urban Fantasy series, this installment was really sexy and surprising! There were characters I had thought never to like that I found myself letting in and embracing, and there are definitely new villains to hate as well. I know that's all very vague and you probably hate me right now, but I refuse to ruin the goodness for you and can only urge you to start this series as soon as you are able and get lost in the world of Maddy and company like I and so many others have. We'll welcome you to our lovefest and fanclub when you do. :) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Black City a well deserved 5 Skulls and hopes that this series keeps going. It will be a very, very sad day for me when there are no more BLACK WINGS releases to look forward to. I can only hope that Christina has something up her sleeve for us and a new series when that day comes.

Howl for a Highlander
by
Terry Spear
literaladdiction
, December 28, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC received from NetGalley Terry Spear has a very good thing going with her HEART OF THE WOLF series and my favorites so far have had to do with those sexy highland wolves... This one had a cool concept. I liked the set up, I loved the way that she overlapped the stories to create cohesion between the characters, and there were just enough surprises. Shelley is a professor of botany and on a research trip to the Cayman Islands. She locks eyes with a sexy Scottish wolf in the airport and there's instant chemistry. Duncan is younger brother to the Laird of MacNeil castle. He's in Grand Cayman trying to track down a con artist wolf that has utterly and completely ripped of his pack and family, not to mention countless others. Once he spies the sexy redhead in the airport he has trouble thinking of much else. Fate and circumstances push the two together and they end up as roomates and partners in trying to take down the sleezy, slimy con man. While neither planed for it, they can't escape their attraction and one thing leads to another; their mission, families, and others' expectations be damned. A Howl for the Highlander was another super sexy 4 Skull highland wolf read from Terry Spear and I enjoyed it a lot There was something about it that wouldn't allow me to give it a higher rating though. I think it was the all-of-a-sudden abruptness to the culmination of Shelley and Duncan's relationship. It was going along great, plenty of sexual tension, lots of action, the story led well to their relationship progressing, etc, and then all of a sudden they were just 'together'. It was still good, but it reminded a lot me of how I feel when I read PNR Novellas; like they're just not long enough to hold the full story and feel like they're rushed. This wasn't on that level, but it was the same type of feeling. I might have been able to give this 5 skulls if it were a bit longer and drawn out just a tad more...

Black Moon
by
J. D. Tyler
literaladdiction
, December 28, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: If you've followed my reviews for Primal Law and Savage Awakening you know that I really like this series. If you've followed our Author Events with J.D on LITERAL ADDICTION for the ALPHA PACK series, you also know that I absolutely LOVE Kalen. Black Magic gave me a taste of what Kalen's book might be like and I really enjoyed it, but nothing could have completely prepared me for this book. It was so much MORE than I expected it to be... and so, so wonderful! Like Primal Law, Black Moon was a fast paced, action packed romance overflowing with paranormal that will have you squealing from mid-book throughout... Like Savage Awakening, Black Moon is a captivating and enjoyable read... But more than that, Black Moon was mysterious, heartbreaking, frustrating, uber suspenseful, and full of surprises. It was so engaging that I turned the last page and just sat there shaking my head in wonder for a few minutes. We've known since book one that Kalen is dark, dangerous, powerful, and sexy. We also know that underneath all the bravado, he's vulnerable because of all of the crap he had to go through growing up. This book literally stripped him raw and laid him out for all the world to stomp on. It tested him, and tortured him, and while things were given, they were just as quickly taken away. It was gut wrenching and powerful, and amazing. Each time a new breathtaking revelation was revealed it turned things on their head for all involved and opened up yet another can of 'what ifs' and possibilities. I know I sound like I'm spouting a bunch of riddles but I don't do spoilers and this book is SO jam packed with stuff that I don't know how else to gush about it without giving things away. Suffice to say I loved this book. It was my absolute favorite of the series so far and not just because it was Kalen's book. It was beautifully written and J.D did a tremendous job of grabbing the reader and weaving a captivating tale of preternatural danger, mystery, drama and romance. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Black Moon a well deserved 5 Skulls and recommends that everyone read it. I do however strongly suggest that you read the entire series including Black Magic (Kalen's eNovella) before digging in. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Dog in the Dark Noble Dead Series 3 Book 2
by
Barb Hendee, J C Hendee, JC Hendee
literaladdiction
, December 28, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review I'm a NOBLE DEAD SAGA groupie. I won't deny it. Since discovering the Hendees and this series in the 90's I eagerly await each and every release. When I got an Advance Reader Copy of Dog in the Dark I was beyond thrilled. Despite the length, I absolutely devoured it, and immediately upon finishing, knew that 5 Skulls wasn't enough for this book. I have loved this Saga from book one, and the first trilogy was astonishing, but this is my absolute favorite of the Saga thus far - so full of emotion, secrets, action, intrigue, & intensity. It was absolutely incredible! Our band of misfits is once again broken into 2 distinct groups, each with some unlikely players. The Dog in the Dark focuses on Magiere, Leesil, Chap, Bro'tan and Leanalham and their journey back to where Wynn just came from. Not only is the journey itself intense, each is dealing with their own inner demons, paranoia, mistrust, etc. Magiere is consistently getting darker and darker and it has Chap and Leesil completely worried. Noboby really trusts Bro'tan because he's always only out for what he wants, and yet they need him. Leanalham has lost pretty much everyone close to her and is still struggling with trying to fit in...anywhere. The Hendees write this beautifully as a mix of real time action and flashbacks to the things we didn't get to see when we were following Wynn in the 2nd series of the Saga. It makes for intense and gripping reading and illuminates so many things. The last couple pages before the Epilogue literally gave me goosebumps, & the last couple pages as an intro to the next book had me squealing with anticipation. Barb and JC are an amazing artistic duo, and I am so happy to be enjoying this journey that they have set up for us all. LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Dog in the Dark 5 Skulls and would highly recommend it to all Fantasy and Urban Fantasy lovers. I strongly suggest reading the entire saga however...

Eldritch Conspiracy
by
Cat Adams
literaladdiction
, December 27, 2012
Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *ARC Received from the Author in exchange for an honest review I've been meaning to read the BLOOD SINGER novels for quite some time. I've read other series by Cat Adams and the CT Adams/Cathy Clamp duo and absolutely loved them, so I knew I would probably thoroughly enjoy these as well. Unfortunately I just haven't had time to dig in. When I set up an Author Event to promote The Eldritch Conspiracy I was sent an ARC for review and decided to take the plunge even though it's book #5 of the series... I read it in 2 sittings. This book was intense, action packed, and filled with abundant goodness! So much happens in this book that it's difficult for me to go into things without spoilers (and I don't do spoilers) so let me just say this: The book takes a kick @$$ heroine who is 1/2 vampire and 1/2 siren, starts up literally in the middle of an insane mission where all involved either die or almost die trying to thwart the bad guys, throw in some immediate betrayal and follow all of that up with a deeply intriguing mystery surrounding the pending nuptuals of a siren princess to the king of a European country (both of which have their share of enemies and secrets and therefore incite multiple assassination attempts), dust the edges with a bit of paranoia, romance, and some family drama and you have The Eldritch Conspiracy. It was like an action/thriller movie on paper and had me riveted from page one. Literally. My only wish is that I had read the rest of the series first - not that this book doesn't stand well on its own, it absolutely does, but it was just so good that I immediately wanted more of the world of Celia Graves. Good thing I have the other books waiting. ;) LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Eldritch Conspiracy 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it for all Urban Fantasy lovers. It was amazing and from what I've heard from my readers and friends, the rest of the series is just as good. I can't wait to find out for myself!!

Gilded: The St. Croix Chronicles
by
Karina Cooper
literaladdiction
, December 26, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha " Michelle L. Olson: I really enjoyed the first installment of Karina’s ST CROIX CHRONICLES, "Tarnished", but the sequel blew me away. My exact, 'first thought' words upon completion were: "Hells bells & damn Karina... You butter us up for a book & a 1/2 and then drop THAT on us!? Just wow. The series is getting better & darker & I want the next one now!" Once again we're immersed in a split world, that of London above and below, where the line between the classes is darkly drawn, and where Cherry is not quite completely a part of either. Gilded picks up where Tarnished left off with Cherry trying to fit in with the upper-crusters of London above, but continuing her work as a Collector below the drift as she tries to get over the ordeal she went through in Tarnished. Immediately upon starting out she's battling her demons, both real-world and inner, while trying to make her chaperone happy by entertaining the advances of Lord Compton and attending soirees. In true Cherry St. Croix fashion however, she remains outspoken and doesn't shy away from her love of science and the mystery therein, thereby shocking and scandalizing society and intriguing Lord Compton all the more. The heart of Gilded revolves around Cherry’s quest to solve Lady Rutledge's riddle about some mysterious murders of professors while still playing a game of cat and mouse with the mysterious collector who both hindered and helped her in Tarnished. Once again Karina weaves a wonderfully magical tale of Victorian Gothic literature using some of the best aspects of the classics we all know and love and gives us an utterly spell-binding read. Not only was the mystery amazing, the action was captivating, and that ending... holy cow! I said I wasn't going to forget Tarnished anytime soon, that goes doubly for Gilded. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Gilded 4 1/2 Skulls.

Last Kiss Goodnight An Otherworld Assassin Novel
by
Gena Showalter
literaladdiction
, December 25, 2012
Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I adore Gena Showalter's books. I'm obsessed with LOTU, devour the Alien Huntress books, and am smitten with her new YA. So, when I heard that Gena was writing an Alien Huntress spin-off I was beyond excited. First off, as always and expected from Gena, Last Kiss Goodnight gives us a fascinating world, lovable characters, & a unique story. Gena celebrates her faith in this book by prefacing each new chapter with a bible verse, and uses tie ins to those for the characters and their plight. Some readers might not like this, but knowing how important Gena's faith is to her, I found it wonderful to see her openly celebrating it in such a manner. Vika is a wonderful heroine. She's strong, smart, spunky, and overcoming some incredible challenges. I love strong heroines and while she has her vulnerabilities she is exactly that. Solo is an interesting hero. He's got some baggage and definitely is struggling with some self esteem problems, but I like that he's different and I love the way he cares for Vika and his friends. So, all-in-all, while I didn't love Last Kiss Goodnight as much as I do Gena's other books (it just wasn't as action packed or sexy to me), it was an enjoyable read and was wonderfully written. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Last Kiss Goodnight 3 1/2 Skulls.

The Bonded: Adriel's Legacy
by
John David Falin
literaladdiction
, December 06, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *Copy received from the author in exchange for an honest review When John reached out to me to see if I might read and review his debut novel, I took one sweep through the synopsis, one look at that gorgeous cover, and said "absolutely". Now that I've completed the book I am very happy that I did... Take an ages old vampire villain that becomes corrupted by his gifts and ends up with a God complex, add in a stubborn, snarky, independent hero with an unknown past, supporting characters that act as perfectly placed building blocks to help build and unravel a complex tale of mystery, intrigue, loyalty, fanaticism, and destiny, and you end up with The Bonded. ADRIEL'S LEGACY is an engaging new dark Urban Fantasy series with captivating characters, an interesting switch on the mythos of vampires, waers & the fae, & intellectual prose that made me instantly respect the author for seeing his readers as exactly what we are, bibliophiles. I thoroughly enjoyed this unique journey and I can't wait to see where John takes the series and Adriel's quest in the next installment! LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Bonded 4 Skulls and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy lovers who are looking for something new and exciting. Note to the reader: this isn't a mindless, happy read. It's often times dark, titillatingly complex, and precisely and intellectually written. If you're looking for a book that has a new take on the vampire, shifter and fae storylines and challenges you a bit as a reader, then this is definitely a book for you! :)

Harlequin Nocturne #152: Dark Wolf Rising
by
Rhyannon Byrd
literaladdiction
, December 06, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC provided by NetGalley I am a huge Rhyannon Byrd fan. I adore her worlds, I love her writing style, I lust for her heroes... Yeah, I'm a fangirl. I had forgotten how much I loved the BLOODRUNNERS series though, until I got back into it with Dark Wolf Rising. This book was darkly sensual, action packed & at times, utterly frustrating & heartbreaking. I absolutely loved it! Amongst turmoil galore, Eric is desperately trying to find his place among his pack and people. He has a tainted legacy left by his corrupt father, and doesn't quite fit in with the pack or with the BloodRunner hybrids; though he has always felt more at home with his friends in the Alley. When stubborn yet adorable Chelsea shows up out of the blue in a hippie bus looking for her sister, his world is turned even more on its ear. Because while she doesn't belong in his world, he can't seem to get rid of her and feels that the only way to make sure she stays out of trouble is to keep her close. Eric is an amazing hero. He's dominant yet caring, sexy yet vulnerable, damaged, and yet with an infinite potential for growth. He's loyal to his friends and loved ones, and Alpha to the core. Chelsea was an interesting heroine... I like my females strong and independent and Chelsea had that in spades, but she was quick tempered, a bit flighty, and almost too stubborn. It made for some VERY intense reading moments where I literally wanted to scream at her or smack her upside the head for one stupid thing or another though, and inducing that kind of emotion in a reader is never a bad thing. :) Ultimately she finally figured things out and all was well, but it was NOT an easy road getting there and boy oh boy do you ever feel for Eric and everyone around him. Revisiting the Alley and its inhabitants was absolutely wonderful. I missed the guys and their incredible mates and I can't wait to read more about each and every one of them. I really want to go back and re-read the first 3 books of the series now though, because I remember things but I wish they were clearer in my mind. It certainly wouldn't be a hardship, this series is utterly fantastic! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Dark Wolf Rising 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone! If you're looking for a dark and sexy action-packed read with lots of emotion, this book is for you. And if you want a series with captivating characters that will stick with you and a world and story arc that keep you wanting more page after page, then I highly suggest you grab books 1-3 as well. Dark Wolf Rising stands fine alone, but this series is amazing and shouldn't be missed.

Shadows Claim Immortals After Dark The Dacians
by
Kresley Cole
literaladdiction
, November 26, 2012
Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha Michelle L. Olson: *ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review Shadow’s Claim was an amazing blend of the best of the IAD series, included some of my favorites of the Lore, and overlaps beautifully with the timeline of the latest release, Lothaire. Unlike other ‘spin-off’ series that I’ve read recently, wherein the plot of the debut book picks up where the last book of the previous series left off, Shadow’s Claim takes a subset of characters and actually happens in parallel with the events of Lothaire. This was made even more enjoyable when the timelines mesh at the end of the book. Our hero and heroine: Trehan and Bettina are phenomenal together and easily worked their way into my top 3 IAD power couples. Their journey is intense, riddled with emotion, sexy as sin, and full of surprises and I loved how it wasn’t a foregone conclusion that things were going to work out and give us that “Happily Ever After” that we expect from Paranormal Romances. I actually wondered if Kresley might make us wait for DACIANS #2 to find out what would happen. The world: The world of THE DACIANS was magical and complex, and Shadow’s Claim was made even more intricate by the fact that it took place in several different locales. Kresley painted the set beautifully with her descriptive prose, impeccable timing, and enthralling character interaction. Overall story: The book was chock full of danger, intrigue, action, and romance, and the plot had multiple twists and turns, which made things quite unpredictable and fabulously entertaining. Some of my favorite things: 1)The depth of Trehan! It was mystifying. He may have become one of my favorite PNR heroes... On one hand he’s a ruthless, detached assassin, but he’s also a somewhat vulnerable, bookish introvert. He shows indications of being a closet romantic, an art aficionado, and a loyal family man and somehow manages to perfectly balance being an uber alpha male with having a surprising and wonderful soft side. 2)The fact that Bettina’s entire future hinged on the outcome of a gladiator style tournament was unique and made for high anxiety reading. It also paved the way for some very interesting little turns that Kresley introduced, as well as some wonderful dialogue. 3)The supporting characters were solid and necessary to the story. I found myself finding favorites among them outside of our leading couple and hoping that we find out even more in future releases. In addition, we get cameos from some great IAD veterans and more storyline on a couple that were only briefly mentioned before, therefore making me yearn for even more, because there is just so much potential with these characters in play. All in all, LITERAL ADDICTION gives Shadow’s Claim 5 Skulls and would recommend it to ALL Kresley Cole IMMORTALS AFTER DARK fans. While I don’t think it’s 100% necessary to read the entire IAD series before reading Shadow’s Claim, I do feel that having done so made Shadow’s Claim more enjoyable. Reading Lothaire before Shadow’s Claim was a definite plus. With that said, IMMORTALS AFTER DARK is an incredible series and should be devoured by paranormal romance lovers far and wide, so take the plunge and get lost in the Lore. You won’t be disappointed! :)

Personal Demon
by
Susan Sizemore
literaladdiction
, November 21, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Kathy M: I wasn’t familiar with author Susan Sizemore’s work and so I was wonderfully surprised by how much I enjoyed Personal Demon. Someone or something is committing horrifying murders with dark magic involved and Ivy Bailey, one of Chicago’s vampire hunters, is given the task of stopping the killings. Unfortunately, Vampire Enforcer Christopher Bell has his own investigation going on which keeps derailing Ivy’s mission. One of my favorite aspects of this book is the bantering and bickering that goes one between these two. Personal Demon has the perfect balance of darkness and snarkiness. When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t aware that it was part of a series, The Laws Of The Blood Novels. Just a short way into Personal Demon, I knew that I would be getting the first 5 books of this series. It was just that good. I happily give Personal Demon 5 skulls.

Dirty Streets of Heaven Bobby Dollar 1
by
Tad Williams
literaladdiction
, November 21, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Michelle M: I have never really read a book about angels so I was definitely interested in reviewing this book. Although a little too detailed in some areas I did enjoy the story line. Heaven is a lot like our government in many ways and this is where I found there were too many details and I wanted to skip ahead. When a soul breaks away from the body it was in, an advocate from Heaven and Hell tell a judge the "good and bad" about this person so it is decided where they shall go following their death. This is where Bobby Dollar comes in. Bobby Dollar is not your average angel, he cusses, drinks, loves women and is always getting himself into sticky situations. I honestly found him quite funny in a lot of the book and that was refreshing. The fact that he is an angel but in his "human" body and an average "bad boy" was a interesting concept. After a soul goes missing, Bobby questions the actions of both Heaven and Hell and it tends to bring some interesting characters to his door. You have his friend who can only talk while in pig form, a demon Countess that he is infatuated with and a guy that is a wanna be rapper/wanna be sidekick. I tend to think of Urban Fantasy books as having a lot of action, this one didn't have as much as I would have liked. I would recommend this book to an Urban Fantasy lover and overall I give this book a 3 Skull rating.

Dark Currents Agent of Hel 1
by
Jacqueline Carey
literaladdiction
, November 21, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Tanya C: Dark Currents by Jacqueline Carey is the first book in her new series Agent of Hel and it quickly became one of my favorite books of 2012. Each character played an important part in the overall story but Daisy, the main female character was by far my favorite because she kept things from getting too serious with her sense of humor. The main male character Cody evened things out with his alpha male personality. I loved the relationship between Daisy and her mother because it was so easy going and they almost seemed to be more like best friends instead of mother and daughter. This book has almost any paranormal/supernatural being you can think of which is just one of the reasons I found it to be such an enjoyable book. Most books of this genre focus on one paranormal/supernatural being but Jacqueline Carey has given us an incredibly well written book with these amazing characters you can't help to like. Another thing that I thought was great was the fact that the story focused on the case instead of a potential romance. I found that to be refreshing and very different. The pace of Dark Currents was just right and Jacqueline Carey made sure that the mystery lasted throughout the entire story. LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer gives Dark Currents 5 Skulls.

Alchemystic

Anton Strout
literaladdiction
, November 21, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer, LadyTechnie: Truly amazing book! I received an early copy of the paperback edition for review from Literal Addiction. I am already a fan of gargoyles. I was a fan of the cartoon and love seeing pictures of them and especially love seen buildings that have gargoyles carved into the architecture. Alchemystic was a great adventure. I loved every page of it. It was the story of Alexandra Belarus who comes from a family with a deep architectural history in Manhattan. The Belarus clan also has a secret which they were not even aware, Alexander Belarus was gifted in magic that could control stone. He did leave them protection from something they are not even aware is a danger to them, something from his past. This protection comes in the form of Stanis, the coolest gargoyle ever! This book has some wonderful character development. There were times that I wanted to kick Alexandra. She had her moments of being obviously entitled, bossing her friends around as if they were her sidekicks until she was faced with how treating them that way might affect her relationship with them. We watch her grow as a person and as she comes into her gifts. Alexandra's parents have secrets of their own as do most people. What happens when family secrets come to light? Some serious tension which pushes this book's characters stand out more. Alexandra's relationship with her brother is best depicted by the opening scene of the book. Words cannot express my opinion of Devon. He has to be experienced by each reader for themselves. The action and magic in this book was truly great. The fight scenes were very well written and they did not all involve Stanis, though he was truly bada**. We learn a lot about his background and what his desires and goals are and how he is driven to complete those goals. No other words describe it and I love a well developed action sequence. This book had several exciting action scenes and architectural exploration hunting for hidden items needed to solve a mystery. I loved being introduced to Anton Stout's creatures in this book and his own spin on alchemy and gargoyles. I am totally enthralled by this story and I am really ready to know when book two comes out because it promises to be a serious knuckle biter! LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer gives Alchemystic 5 Skulls.

Cold Days: Dresden Files 14
by
Jim Butcher
literaladdiction
, November 19, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: THE DRESDEN FILES is one of my absolute favorites and I don't wait long to read the installments when they're released, so to say that I was a bit giddy after receiving an ARC from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review would be an understatement. I settled in as soon as I could with it, and 100 pages in I was already saying: "The brilliance of Jim Butcher & the fantastical world of Harry Dresden never cease to amaze me! 20 pages in I had counted no less than 3 pop culture reference, laughed audibly at least a handful of times, shook my head with wonder & wanted nothing more than to call in sick & read for the next 18+ hours straight" Upon completion of the book 2 days later, my exact words were: "5 stars isn't nearly enough for a book that had me laughing, crying, gasping, and so much more. And only Jim Butcher could give me 515 pages of so much goodness that it was almost overwhelming, yet leave me desperately wanting more after the last page was turned. Just...wow!" This release had it all and then some! This review isn't even going to begin to do it justice... One statement could sum up this book: Harry's back - bigger and better than ever! The reference humor was stellar, the action, as always, was intense and mystifying, the intrigue and mystery were compelling and gripping and every last page left me wanting more and there were more than enough surprises to go around. In true Jim Butcher fashion, Cold Days starts quick, builds steadily, grows to an almost combustible crescendo and then closes with a sequence of events that literally had my heart racing and me screaming out loud in outrage, shock, and frustration. Well over 10 books ago I would have said that I didn't think it could get any better. I'd have been wrong. It has, it does, and I have a feeling it will continue to do so. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Cold Days a WELL deserved 5 Skulls and strongly urges anyone who hasn't read The Dresden files to start, and soon. This series is epic and will continue to be an easy favorite and an automatic auto-buy for me.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: Dire Wants is the second book of the ETERNAL WOLF CLAN series, and is action packed, deep, intriguing & stuffed with goodness! Soooo much happens in this installment, it might be a little difficult review to write a review keeping to my 'no spoiler' policy, but I will try... Dire Wants picks up where Dire Needs left off, with the Dire wolves and their Were allies fighting against the Were Trappers and the demon possessed witch Seb and his Were minions in a race to save the world. Stray, the newest and youngest of the Dire pack and his estranged older brother Killian are 2 parts of a prophecy that could either save all of the wolves and humans or utterly destroy everything. Together with a powerful witch who doesn't yet know that she IS a witch, they could defeat the Dire Ghost Army that Seb has called up AND save Jinx's twin brother Rogue from the curse he's been under. The problem is that all of this takes trust on everyone's part, and after the tortured histories these wolves have, trust doesn't come easily. Dire Wants is Stray and Kate's story, but it also delves into the disfunctional family workings of Stray and Killian, as well as Jinx and the rest of the Dire pack, not to mention the Were brothers Cyd and Cain and their relationship with the FBI agent Angus Young. It also gives some background on Seb's lost love and introduces what previously would have been a very unlikely ally. The ETERNAL WOLF CLAN series is very deep. It's a complex world with lots of different pieces, a plethora of characters who each play their respective roles, and several smaller storylines that integrate to create the plot as a whole. With that said, while Stephanie did a great job of recapping in Dire Wants, I would strongly suggest that you read the Dire Warning eNovella and Dire Needs before you take the plunge with Dire Wants. For the sake of a complete review, I have to mention that there are some homosexual scenes in this installment. Stephanie did a beautiful job of writing them in and I was incredibly excited to see where she took that particular sub-story. Even if you're not generally a fan of m/m romance, this is so much more than that. It's the strugglings of a somewhat forbidden relationship, regardless of sex, and I'm really looking forward to reading more as the series progresses. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Dire Wants 4 Skulls. I'm very eager to see where this series goes next!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: Between Their Worlds is Book #1 of Series #3 of the NOBLE DEAD SAGA and reunites the characters from the first two series after they had broken off to take care of their respective pieces of the puzzle. It was so nice to have my favorites back in one place - for better or worse - and now that the baseline has been reestablished for what needs to be done and they've split up yet again, the mystery and action to come promises to be incredible! Between Their Worlds allows the reader into the minds of Wynn, Chane, Magiere, Leesil, Chap and Shade as they meet up again after their long separation and continue on with some unlikely allies and the reappearance of some old friends. Not all Noble Dead fans will love this book, and some may feel like it was an unnecessary filler novel. I personally feel that it was necessary for the continuation of the saga, and was a beautifully emotional read. To me, it was like coming home again... LITERAL ADDICTION gives Between Their Worlds 4 Skulls.

The Watcher

Charles MacLean

, November 19, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review The Watcher is a deep psychological thriller with mind numbing twists and turns, reminiscent of the good 80's style psycho-horrors where nothing is quite as frightening as the human mind. I honestly wasn't sure if I would be able to read this book to completion. The Event that takes place at the beginning that sets up the rest of the story is utterly and completely disturbing and I literally had to take a break from the book after reading it to let it settle. Once I got back to the tale though, it was a steady influx of madness and paranoia, mystery and intrigue, and had me wondering over and over again who the hero and villain really were, or if there were actually any at all! It's definitely a tale that will have your mind working overtime to try and figure out what's really going on, and even when it's all said and done, if you're like me, you still won't be sure what exactly happened, which all leads to the beauty of the doubt that Charles Maclean weaves into his story. While not the best horror/thriller I've read recently, it was solid and compelling, and I'm glad I had the chance to read it. LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Watcher 3 1/2 Skulls.

Edge of Oblivion

J. T. Geissinger

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *ARC received from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. Edge of Oblivion was my first foray into the world of NIGHT PROWLER and the mind of J.T Geissinger and immediately upon completion of the book I was kicking myself because I didn't take the time to read Shadow's Edge first - not that Edge of Oblivion didn't stand well on its own, on the contrary, it worked as a standalone just fine - but because it was so amazing I simply wanted more! My exact words upon completion of the book were "Wow, quite possibly the best shifter book I have read in awhile. A diabolical villain with a God complex, supporters of the villain who are trapped and brainwashed, a headstrong, smart, confident heroine, a tortured, sexy alpha male looking for his redemption, supporting characters you NEED to know more about, and a plot that keeps you guessing, gasping, and wanting more. The NIGHT PROWLER series is truly something special, and after the end of Edge of Oblivion, I cannot wait to see what happens next!" It was all of that and more... Our heroine, Morgan, has been sentenced to death for endangering the secrets and wellfare of her Ikati colony. Luckily for her, the Queen of the colony is a close friend and not one who is willing to just see Morgan executed. Her only saving grace is to travel to Rome under the watchful eye of the Queen's Consort's brother (and one of the colony's best assassins), Xander, to find the elusive Expurgari - the tribe's enemy of old. During their trip, Morgan and Xander get WAY more than they bargained for - secrets, mayhem, murder, betrayal, and lust to just name a few, all wrapped up in the secretive world of the Ikati and layered under the ancient history of the Vatican. Edge of Oblivion was a dark, dangerous, sexy, action-packed thrill ride and I wanted more the minute the last page was flipped. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Edge of Oblivion 5 Skulls and recommends it to Paranormal addicts far and wide (Urban Fantasy junkies, Paranormal Romance lovers, and fans of the Shifter supe-group should definitely check out this book and the series as a whole).

Harlequin Nocturne #148: Kissed by a Vampire
by
Caridad Pineiro
literaladdiction
, November 13, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I LOVE The Calling series! It's easily one of my favorite vampire series out there. When I discovered it, I devoured every book that was out there in a 3 day span I think, and then... I waited. Hoping that Caridad would be putting out another book in the series soon. I finally got my wish! I was fortunate enough to win a signed copy of this book and was ecstatic to say the least. I've waited a long time for Stacia to find the perfect guy & get her happily ever after and it was wonderful to see it all come together. Alex and Stacia met in a previous book of the series and in an unusual way. They went their separate ways, but even though life carried on, neither of them really forgot the other. When fate intervenes and they both end up back in Miami years later, things heat up in more ways and in more places than the beach, and they both find in each other something worth holding on to. Alex is a fabulous hero. He's super sexy, ambitious, honorable and alpha and he knows when it's not smart to push a woman too far. He's also incredibly romantic (at least he was to me) and I loved watching him fight for the girl. Stacia is one of the oldest vampires around. She's powerful beyond believe, stubborn, independent, confident, and yet vulnerable. Her turning broke something in her that has never really healed and throughout The Calling series you find her doing things that you know SHE knows she shouldn't be doing, and yet... she does. When she meets Alex again she tries to quickly put that wall back up and keep her distance because it's like she doesn't think she deserves to be loved, but Alex isn't having that and brick by brick that wall is broken down. Alex and Stacia's relationship journey was really something special and amidst all of the action, drama, mystery and danger that the storyline provided, it was an incredible read that had me melting by the end. Both of these characters had to learn and realize things about themselves before they could make it work as a team and it was truly beautiful when everything fell into place. The Calling remains one of my very favorite vampire series, and I am SO happy that we finally got Stacia and Alex's tale. I'm curious to see if they'll ever get their 'Happily Forever' instead of just they're 'Happily Ever After', but we'll just have to wait and see. ;) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Kissed by a Vampire 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend The Calling series to EVERYONE! You can read Kissed by a Vampire as a standalone novel, but I highly suggest that you read the other books of the series first. You won't be disappointed. Caridad is a master storyteller and the books will grab you from page 1.

Rogue Rider Lords of Deliverance 04
by
Larissa Ione
literaladdiction
, November 12, 2012
*ARC received from NetGalley Rogue Rider is the 4th installment of the LORDS OF DELIVERANCE series and Larissa wraps things up with a beautiful bow in this 'final' release. I have been a HUGE Larissa Ione fan since the day I discovered her first DEMONICA novel. When the LORDS OF DELIVERANCE series kicked off I was immediately drawn in. The world is grand and compelling, the characters are unique and complex, the storylines are action packed and full of beautiful romance and drama...in short, they're a Paranormal Romance lover's dream! After Ares', Limos' and Than's books, I was wondering how in the world Larissa would be able to redeem Reseph and give him a believable happily ever after. After all of the death and destruction he caused as Pestilence and the hate-on he earned from me as a reader because of it, I couldn't draft out an idea in my head of how Larissa could spin it, wrap it up and make me love him again. I shouldn't have worried. Following the climactic ending of Lethal Rider, Rogue Rider starts out with Reseph as an amnesiac back in the human realm. When he's discovered by Jillian, a gorgeous young woman healing from a traumatic past, they start to undertake the journey of discovering Reseph's story together and get more than they could ever bargained for. This book was chock full of goodness and I so badly want to tell you all about it but I just don't do spoilers in my reviews, so I will simply say this... there was mystery, intrigue, betrayal, forgiveness, heartache and loss, healing and romance, epic surprises, and so much more - all tied into the world we've come to know and love and the characters we can't get enough of. Here are some key points that I can share: *Reseph will probably never forgive himself for everything that he did as Pestilence and having Jillian in his life is going to make dealing with things both easier and harder because their paths have crossed before. However, he couldn't have found a more perfect mate. *Reseph's family deals with his return in varying ways, and there is going to be a long road of trust rebuilding ahead! *One of the epic surprises in this book is an incredible set up for the next book and its hero (FYI: Larissa is merging the 2 series even more in the next installment due out Summer of '13). Rogue Rider was wonderful and LITERAL ADDICTION gives it 4 1/2 Skulls. I HIGHLY recommend all of Larissa's books! With that said, I suggest that readers start with her DEMONICA series and then move on to her LORDS OF DELIVERANCE novels - in order - to fully appreciate the brilliance. Trust me, you will not be sorry you did...

Daughter of the Spellcaster

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC received from NetGalley. If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm a huge Maggie Shayne fan. I love her writing, I love her worlds, I love her characters... This book most certainly did not disappoint. In fact, my exact words upon finishing the book were: "Unbelievably, amazingly, fantastically good!! Writing a review to do this justice may prove to be difficult. I simply loved it." Even with that said though, let's try... Daughter of the Spellcaster was a beautifully written Paranormal Romance full of hope, magick, intrigue and heart. Lena and her mother are witches living in a tiny town in NY and getting ready to welcome their new addition - Lena's daughter, Selma's granddaughter - into the world. When Lena hears that a close acquaintance from years ago has died and left something to her in his will, she must leave the security of Havenwood to go to the memorial. Ryan is a high society playboy who has just lost his father whom he's felt abandoned by pretty much his whole life. When the death brings his old girlfriend Lena back into his life with a bit of a surprise, he begins to rethink his priorities and his future. The two embark on a journey to find answers to Ryan's father's lifetime quest while learning more about each other along the way. After so many years and so many misunderstandings though, trust is a bit hard to come by, not to mention the fact that there are dark forces at work undermining their growth each step of the way. Maggie introduced some very 'human' characters in this installment of the Portal series. I loved everything about them and adored the way that Maggie painted the story with words, providing a vivid canvas of a tale that I won't easily forget. I also adored how she tied together books #1 and #2 of the series and paved the way for book #3 in January; it was genius. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Daughter of the Spellcaster a well deserved 5 Skulls. The Portal series has easily become one of my very favorite series out there, though that doesn't surprise me given the author. :) I simply cannot wait for book #3 to become available.

Darkness Hunts A Dark Angels Novel

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm a huge fan of Keri Arthur's. You also know that I LOVE the DARK ANGELS series. So, when I received an advance reading copy of Darkness Hunts from the Publisher in return for an honest review I was thrilled. I have absolutely devoured every installment of the series thus far with nothing but rave reviews and couldn't wait to see what happened next. This book was a little different than the ones before. It wasn't quite as action-packed; at least not until closer to the end. It was, however, one of the most emotion filled books I've had the pleasure of reading all year. The over-all feel of the story was incredibly visceral and while immersed in the tale I almost found it hard to breath in sections because it was slightly overwhelming (in a completely wonderful way). I switched rapidly from doubt, betrayal, frustration, yearning, worry, fear, apprehension, and many more. There was something incredibly organic about Darkness Hunts and I thoroughly enjoyed it, though for different reasons than I loved the first three books of the series. I have to be honest and say that I'm not sure if all fans of the series will like this installment. Keri gifted us all with something we've been waiting long and hard for in Darkness Devours and Darkness Hunts doesn't quite continue that gift giving. It instead pulls back, and in doing so, explores the more human side of the characters. It was beautiful and yet utterly frustrating at the same time. Risa continues to get herself into bind after bind and Keri takes us, as readers, along with her. There's actually a quote from page 237 of the ARC that I have to share because it's gorgeously written and so encompassing of the series thus far. Risa's dwelling on things that have happened and thinks: "...because I knew, no matter what, there was no going back. This path, this journey, was leading me inexorably into darkness, and I knew with every fiber of my being it was a darkness from which I would not escape." LITERAL ADDICTION gives Darkness Hunts 5 Skulls for its viscerally organic nature and beautiful prose that literally made my heart ache, as well as for an ending that will have all DARK ANGEL fans clamoring for more!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC received from NetGalley. Yet another incredible installment in the Eternal Guardians series from Elisabeth Naughton. These books continue to capture my attention & demand respect! Gryphon and Maelea are both tortured, wounded souls with trust issues. They're unexpectedly thrown together on this complex adventure and quest which only serves to solidify their bond and create a romance that is electric. Their journey is full of betrayal, doubt, grief, and healing, and when all put together, provided a gripping, emotional, action packed book that I will definitely pick back up for a re-read. It was SO nice to see Gryphon finally get his Happily Ever After despite the horrendous journey to get there and I can't wait for the next book - I'm assuming it'll be Titus's story & I'm eagerly awaiting the outcome. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Enslaved a well deserved 5 Skulls!

, October 30, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: Darynda Jones's Charley Davidson series is easily one of my favorite series and I am constantly recommending it to people. I have yet to find another series that combines the incredible levels of humor, fantastic dialogue, lovable characters, sexy romance, high octane action and nail biting mystery that Darynda delivers in each and every Charley Davidson installment. While this wasn't my personal favorite installment of the series it was still amazing and brought what I come to love and pine for from Darynda Jones. This release lets readers see a more insecure and slightly more human side of Charley that I thoroughly enjoyed; even though it was hard to watch her go through what she did. We also find out a bit more about what Charley is capable of, but I can tell there are leagues to go where that is concerned. :) We get more Reyes in this installment as well, and seriously... more Reyes is ALWAYS a good thing! In true Darynda Jones fashion, the mystery of the story had me second guessing what was going on several times. She finds the most creative ways to wrap things up and I absolutely loved it. There were at least 4 different cases that Charley was involved in during the span of this book and they all came together beautifully at the end. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet 4 1/2 Skulls. I'm still a diehard Charley Davidson fan and I cannot wait for more!

Forbidden Bodywalkers 01
by
Jacquelyn Frank
literaladdiction
, October 30, 2012
In Forbidden Jacquelyn has expanded the myth involved in the popular Nightwalker series by introducing the possibility of a further six nations onto the existing six, previous knowledge of the Nightwalker books is not needed to enjoy this but I highly recommend reading them. The Bodywalkers have their mythology based in ancient Egypt, when their mortal body dies their soul returns to the Ether, which is the place between life and death. Once they have recovered from their "death" they are able to hitch-hike back to Earth and into a new body by possesing a human at the moment of their death. Both parties have to be in agreement though, and over a period of time the two souls will merge allowing them to share a body. Following an attempted murder, Docia is introduced to a world she never expected existed. Raised by her brother, Jackson, and his friend Leo after the death of her parents, Docia has led a pretty uneventful life so why are people suddenly trying to kill her? The melding of Docia with a Bodywalker occurs after the first attempt to kill her, this invites even more bad guys to try and kill her, luckily for her it also introduces a protector in the form of Ram/Vincent who believes her to be hosting his Queen. Along the way we meet new foes and allies, the plot has many twists and a forbidden romance that raises the heat level. It's a promising beginning to the series, like all first in series books with such a huge mythology there is a large amount of info thrown at you in this book, it was a little hard to get my head around at times. I was greatful for the distraction that Jackson provided and I'm looking forward to getting to know him better. Jacquelyn has proved once again why she is a master (or should that be mistress?) of what I like to term "fantasy paranormal". The worlds she creates are so indepth and different that you can't help but believe they may actually exist. LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer gives Forbidden 4 Skulls.

Black Lament
by
Christina Henry
literaladdiction
, October 30, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I am absolutely in love with this series, so when Christina sent me an ARC of Black Lament to get me through a tough time following back to back surgeries, she couldn't have given me a better gift. After crying my eyes out following the conclusion of Black Howl and just KNOWING that Christina had amazing things in store for not only us but her characters, I was chomping at the bit to start Black Lament. Let me tell you that Miss Henry did not disappoint, not even a bit! My first words upon completing the book were this: "Holy cow! Another amazing read by Christina Henry. Dark, intriguing, action packed, emotion laced, & jam packed with goodness. I can't wait for the next book!" As the synopsis says, after tragedy strikes, Maddy finds some comfort in the fact that she has something to look forward to. The only problem is that she just can't seem to stay out of trouble, and everyone wants a piece of her for their own personal gains. She's pretty much made enemies in all the supernatural courts, and now she's getting heat from her bosses bosses to boot. This is an incredibly difficult review to write because SO much happens in this installment and I refuse to spoil any of it. Many, many things change, characters that you hated you have to learn to like, characters that were always Maddy's rocks are beginning to waiver, numerous new characters are introduced and muddle up the already delicate balance that Maddy is desperately trying to hold on to (both for better and for worse), and Maddy discovers and nurtures a darkness within herself that has those closest to her a bit on edge. One of the best lines is towards the end of the book and sums up a lot of the feeling throughout the tale. Maddy and Lucifer are talking and Lucifer asks "Do you really believe you can defeat whatever comes your way?". Maddy replies with, "I have to believe that, because every time I turn around there's something else". That, in a nutshell, sums up this series thus far, and especially this installment. In Black Lament, Christina changes things even more than she did in Black Howl (and I wasn't sure that was even possible). She also opens up the series for an entirely new sub-plotline, and I am dying to see how Black City turns out! Love, love LOVE this series! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Black Lament a well deserved 5 Skulls and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy lovers. I do suggest that readers take in the whole series and start with Black Wings, Black Night and Black Howl before Black Lament, however. There is just too much history that you'll miss, and you don't want to miss them anyway; they're too fantastic.

Daughter of the Sword Fated Blades
by
Steve Bein
literaladdiction
, October 17, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Cheryl: Daughter of the Sword is this conglomeration of historical Japanese lore, true Japanese history and urban fantasy. I received a copy with a really great cover from Literal Addiction which received the copy from the publisher for review purposes. I have to admit this was already on my to-be-read list already so when I had the opportunity to review it for L.A. I jumped at it and though there were times I was lost in the Japanese terminology, I enjoyed learning them. Steve Bein did such a good job with character development that there were times I had to put the book down or scream at the bigotry and misogynistic treatment that Mariko received from her co-workers, especially her new lieutenant. Mariko is a worldly, intelligent, butt-kicker. She is a great cop, much to the dismay of both her family and her fellow police officers. She has the great honor of being the first female detective and the only one of her rank. She has a family that she is at odds with because of some problems her sister has that has put a wedge between them. They were so close that most in their community can tell the difference in their relationship and are watching and gossiping like the Oshiros are a soap opera to be monitored by all. Their mom is caught in the middle and it is quite interesting to see the dichotomy between the three of them as they juggle the past with the present. Daughter of the Sword tells the history of several of the swords created by a great master named Inazuma. One of the swords has a terrible history and is the focus of a lot of the backdrop told in the book. There are multiple periods covered that tell the story of the sword and all who have owned it along with a lot of information about samurai. We also learn the history of a Professor Yamada who is very renowned for his knowledge of swords and martial arts. He also has a very deep history and some of his actions possibly reverberate throughout the history of his homeland. There are some aspects of World War II discussed and it allows the reader to see things from Yamada's and his friend's points-of-view. Another interesting aspect of this story is the relationship between the police and Yakuza. I was a little lost with some of the Japanese terms for the different legs of the organized crime in Japan but, it made for another aspect of this story which is that it is also a Japanese police procedural with tons of action and a fair bit of gore which is to be expected when swords are involved. The sword play was described beautifully and it was interesting to see Mariko’s initiation into her version of a samurai’s way of life. If you love reading about far-away places, historical fiction and fantasy this book should definitely be on your list. LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer gives Daughter of the Sword 4 Skulls.

Ghost of Memories Vampire Memories 5
by
Barb Hendee
literaladdiction
, October 17, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *ARC provided by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. Ghosts of Memories is the 5th installment of Barb Hendee's VAMPIRE MEMORIES series, but can easily be read as a standalone novel. In this installment, Eleisha, our sweet & charming 'vampire social worker' is still on the hunt for others of their kind to offer them refuge at the Underground, the shelter she runs out of a church with her damaged protector and lover Philip and heroic human partner Wade. She's also still making a home for Maxim, Rose, and their ghost Seamus, while helping each to heal in their own way. They've become more than just a group helping one another. They've become a family. Unfortunately, there's still a diabolical and unstable vampire out there whose only goal is to wipe out any and all vampires whom he sees as competition, and in his head, that's pretty much any vampire except Eleisha, whom he feels he needs to track down those remaining of their kind - in order to eliminate them all. When Wade and Eleisha find Christian and Ivory, two vampires running a bit of a con game, they set out to make contact and try to convince them to return with them to the Underground where they can keep them safe and introduce them to others of their kind. Things don't go quite as planned, however, and those that they're trying to help just might end up being more trouble than they're worth. I loved the way that Barb introduced more than 1 villain into this story, and even though the greatest threat started out as Julian in continuation with the books before, it became clear that a calculating vampire with a God complex and an unbalanced sense of self-righteousness is a much greater threat than any crazy psycho with a blade. I also loved how she used flashbacks to give us more character information and introduce additional emotion into the story. The overlapping histories were a beautiful spin as well and made the interaction between the characters in this release that much more compelling. While one storyline of the series may have been wrapped up in this installment, the door was opened for a multitude of other possible plotlines for either this series or a spin-off and I can't wait to see where Barb takes us next in this unique and gripping world. Ghosts of Memories was a wonderful 4 1/2 skull read. I love these characters and I love the emotion that Barb brings in every book!

Furys Kiss Dorina Basarab 03

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I knew I had missed the world of MIDNIGHT'S DAUGHTER, but I didn't realize exactly how much until I dove into Fury's Kiss and was reunited with Dorina Basarab. The enchanting world of sexy and dangerous (and often times utterly entertaining) Master Vampires, Fey Warriors, Mages of both the Light and Dark persuasion, and more, all wrapped up in an action-packed, suspenseful plotline with heat, heart and intrigue. I've thoroughly enjoyed the previous installments of both series of this world, but there was something special about this book. I think because we got to see the OTHER side of Dorina, the more vulnerable side - the more human side if you will. I also loved it because it brought back, in stunning display, pretty much all of my other favorite characters as they each played their role. Unexpected heroes, thrilling allies, dirty secrets and more abound in this installment and if I wasn't on a review schedule I think I'd read it again. I can't go into detail of what happened during the book because just about everything I would say would be spoiler, so I'll just say this... LITERAL ADDICTION gives Fury's Kiss 5 Skulls and highly recommends it. I do, however, recommend that you read the previous installments before this one as there is a lot of history that is used to set up the premise of this book. It may even be a good idea to read the CASANDRA PALMER series as well before starting the DORINA BASARAB books as you get insight into several of the key players in those books (and they're fabulous).

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Shawnie: Jesse James Dawson was an ordinary human - with a black belt in karate, until his brother stepped into something he couldn't get out of alone. Now five years after it all started Jesse is a bonafide Champion of Souls, mentoring under Ivan Zelenko. He has been through more in the last few years of his life, than most people go through in their entire lives and still he keeps going. He is a true good guy in all sense of the words; he lives it, breaths it and he wouldn't have it any other way. Except maybe to keep his now growing family safe, nothing is more important to him, than his family. In the third installment of this series, Jesse's personal Demon Axel is cashing in his one and only favor which takes our hero on a journey to L.A. to protect a women who sold her soul to be the starlet she is. To make matters even more complicated he has 267 other souls to protect - souls that were sold to spend an evening with the beautiful and stunning Gretchen Keene. Now we all know, demons never tell you the whole story. All Jesse knows is that he has to keep her safe until New Year's - piece of cake right? NOT! There is a loophole in the young starlets contact and every demon is after his knew charge and they won't stop until the have all the souls she has collected in her rise to fame. Gretchen is turning Jesse's view of her on his ass, she is nothing like what he expected. She is tough and smart, she doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit her in some way but its always a two way street. I have to say she was one of my favorite characters, to get to know. But Something Jesse can't explain is after them and its gunning for Jesse because let's face it killing Jesse is the priority, he is the real threat. He is what stands in the way of the demons getting Gretchen and the souls she carries around on her. But how can he fight something that can change it shape at will? How do you fight something that you know nothing about? Who exactly is pulling the strings here and how much will the end result affect out hero? Those are the questions that will plague your mind, but remember the most least expecting person may surprise you. I HONESTLY LOVED THIS BOOK AND I PLAN TO CONTINUE READING STEWART'S BOOKS. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SERIES BY ALL MEANS PICK IT UP AND START IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.. LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer gives A Wolf at the Door 5 Skulls.

Demoness of Waking Dreams

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Jeannette M: I LOVE Stephanie Chong, the girl can write a book. This one had more action in it than the first one. I love how I felt like I was actually in Venice. She can describe a place like no one's business; I was actually there, I kid you not. This isn't like any other Angel Vs. Demon story, there is actually a lot of interaction between the two, and that makes this story unique because we always tend to forget about the bad guys/girls in the story. The message this book gave me was "There is good in everyone, no matter what horrors you committed or saw in life. There is always hope." I can't wait to read the next installment because I know it will be just as good. LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer gives The Demoness of Waking Dreams 5 Skulls.

Angel's Ink
by
Jocelynn Drake

, October 16, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I've been a fan of Jocelynn's writing for quite some time. DARK DAYS is one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series, so when I found out that she was writing a new series I was simply intrigued. After devouring the first two prequel eNovellas to the series - The Asylum Interviews - Bronx and The Asylum Interviews - Trixie, I could not wait to get Angel's Ink into my hands. I received an ARC of Angel's Ink from HarperCollins in return for an honest review, and couldn't put it down. I read the entire thing in 1 and 1/2 sittings and only wanted more... My exact words on GoodReads upon finishing the book were: "Simply incredible! Action packed, gripping, & so unique I couldn't stop saying "wow"." I'm a bibliophile. I read. A LOT. And I'm a genre specific reader sticking to the Paranormal, so trying to find a new and fresh spin on Urban Fantasy these days isn't the easiest thing to do. The Asylum Tales gave me that in spades. The world was beautifully crafted and multi-dimensional allowing for growth throughout the series yet not becoming too overwhelming in the first installment. The characters were well rounded with wonderful back stories, allowing for continued development throughout the arc. The action was intense, the mystery intriguing and surprising, the romance frustratingly wonderful (in keeping with Jocelynn Drake form) and the plot gripping. Our hero, Gage, is a potion stirring tattoo artist; the best in Low Town. He's also a warlock who wants nothing to do with the egotistical and maniacal world of the other witches and warlocks of the Ivory Towers. Having it in his blood though makes it very difficult for Gage not to use magic, especially when he runs into trouble around every corner, and boy does he ever! Our heroine, Trixie, is an elf on the run from the Summer Court. She's been in hiding for years and has been keeping a low profile working with Gage at Asylum as a tattoo artist. When the warriors of the Summer Court finally track her down in Low Town, she has no option but to turn to Gage for some help hiding out, and since he's madly in love with her, he simply can't say no. Our other hero, Bronx, is a troll and Gage's other business partner. He's loyal, steadfast, and almost too intuitive. I absolutely love Bronx and I cannot wait to find out more about him in future books - I just KNOW that he's got one heck of a story to tell. :) I can't go into plot too much without spoiling things so I will just tell you that it's a wild ride and utterly fabulous. I would suggest reading The Asylum Interviews - Bronx and The Asylum Interviews - Trixie before starting Angel's Ink. It helps a lot with the world building and character introductions and they're just SO good! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Angel's Ink 5 Skulls and would recommend it to anyone who wants an amazing new Urban Fantasy to fall in love with.

Forever Freed

Our Review [Provided by Michelle McMichael]: Forever Freed is a paranormal romance told in first person from the hero, Lucien's, point of view. At the start of the book Lucien is the epitome of the angsty/broody vamp, I enjoyed the insight into his thoughts as he tries to come to terms with the loss of his family and his inability to save them. When Lucien meets Olivia he is amazed by how easily she accepts his presence and shows no instinctual fear of him. Her innocence touches Lucien and he can't help but want to protect her. Samantha enters Luciens life around the same time but leaves him with an overwhelming urge to consume her. Lucien attempts to insert himself into her life but he doesn't expect to discover Olivia's place in her life. Lucien undergoes a huge transformation from broody vamp to protector and lover but it's not an easy journey. I really enjoyed the fact that yes it's a love story but it's also so much more, there's a little bit of everything in here. I'm a little disappointed that it's a stand alone. There are a few unanswered questions especially when it comes to Lucien and his bloodline. Olivia was a delightful addition to the story and I really enjoyed her interactions with Lucien. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club's guest reviewer gives Forever Freed 4 Skulls, and says that there is a lot of promise in the book.

The Embrace of Life and Death
by
Liz Strange
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [By LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha-Michelle L Olson]: Let me begin by saying that I wasn't even sure I would be able to read this one. I had not read a male/male paranormal romance before this, and to say I was concerned about whether I could get into the story (let alone enjoy it) would be putting it mildly. I had only recently discovered M/F/M PNRs and found, to my surprise, that I enjoyed them. With that said, however, the synopsis intrigued me, and knowing that I had thoroughly enjoyed Liz's work in the past; I set out to see what this Dark Kiss Tale had to offer. Written at first in the 1st person from Kieran's point of view, the story started off like many others, footloose and fancy free immortal vampires running amok in the city, enjoying their higher rung on the food chain and their basic natures. Then the mysterious Arch Angel Azrael is introduced, as well as his `boss', The Supreme One, and the tale takes an interesting turn. What you ultimately end up with is a forbidden romance, an ego-maniac who thinks he knows what's best and interferes in the most extreme of ways only to push the two people he is trying to keep apart closer together, the most loyal and true of friends, and a storyline SO unique that there could never be anything like it again--vampires, arch angels, gods, alien technology, time travel, mind control... It sounds crazy, but Liz wrote it SO seamlessly that it worked better than you could possibly imagine! The emotions felt by all parties throughout the story were so visceral; I could literally feel my pulse pick up, my heart sink, my temperature rise, etc. The romance was tender and believable, and the friendships exactly what you would hope to have in your own life. I can honestly say that I don't think I've read a novel that I FELT like I felt this one. Some readers will not be happy with the ultimate outcome and ending of the book. For the story it was perfect, but it's not a traditional HEA, and that may rile a few readers. In all honesty, I found myself screaming "Are you kidding me!" at first until I thought about it a little more, and decided that it wouldn't have worked as well any other way... All in all, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Embrace of Life and Death 4 Skulls and would recommend it for Paranormal Romance fans at large, not just m/m PNR readers.

Lost

Our Review [By LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha-Michelle L Olson]: Since readers look to reviews to steer them in a direction, I'm going to give it to you straight and from the heart. I'm a big Caridad Pineiro fan! I devoured her entire Calling series in I think 3 sittings, but I was very apprehensive about this book. Every time I picked it up and read the synopsis I'd give myself a little mental `Eh, I don't know...' and set it back down, only to pick it up again the minute I was ready for a new book. I'm a paranormal junkie, and there seemed to be enough of that outlined in the blurb, so I was having troubles pinning down exactly what my problem was. Finally I took a deep breath and just jumped in. Know what? I finished it in 2 sittings and that was only because I had to go to work and put it down. Adam was just a boy when his adoptive father found him in the dessert with no memory and lots of questions. 20 years later, Adam finds himself a millionaire running a cutting edge technology company, yet he still has no answers, and in fact, has a lot more questions regarding who and what he is, where he came from, the extent of his gifts, etc. Adam hopes that by continuing to do research and development for his company, he may uncover some truths about himself as well. Bobbie is a veteran newly home from the war and healing both physically and emotionally. When Bobbie and Adam's paths cross in the midst of a kidnapping attempt, Bobbie's `forever a soldier' mentality kicks in and she can't stop herself from jumping to help, though she had no idea just what she was getting herself into. Now a team by circumstance, Adam and Bobbie must figure out what is going on, how to stay 1 step ahead, and how to deal with the undeniable and world altering attraction between them. On the outskirts, you have the 2 groups who are after Adam for 1 reason or another--The Light Hunters, those who gather energy peacefully and naturally from nature and things around them, and the Shadows, a faction of Light Hunters that evolved into something much less peaceful over time, and steal rather than borrow energies. What you ultimately end up with is an emotional roller-coaster full of excitement, regret, love, passion, uncertainty, betrayal, retribution, and so much more! The book was incredibly written; very vivid imagery, even with things as intangible as intent, strong well developed characters with clearly defined purpose and background, and a love affair that while fast, was truly believable. From a series standpoint, this first book was a greatly laid foundation for the next installments. Though readers who dislike cliff-hangers will be shouting profanities and throwing things as they turn the last page, the meat of the story was wrapped up nicely and those questions that both the characters and the reader needed answers to from page 1 are brought to light. All in all, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Lost 4 1/2 Skulls, and would recommend it to Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and even some Sci-Fi readers.

Reluctant Vampire Argeneau Family 15
by
Lynsay Sands
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L Olson & Jennifer Vayda]: Drina has been sent by Lucian and Marguerite to Port Henry to help protect Stephanie from a jerk that looks like he'll stop at nothing to get his grubby mits on her. Stephanie isn't the only vamp Drina is keeping her eye on though... After being picked up at the airport by tall, dark and rude (a.k.a Anders who not much for the talking), Drina meets Harper. After doing so, Drina notices that her appetite has returned and that she's getting peeks into Harper's thoughts--2 very important signs that indicate the two are lifemates. The problem is, Harper feels that he doesn't deserve another chance at happiness, and so Drina is thrown into 2 fights, and she's not willing to give up on either easily. Drina is warned ahead of time that she'll have a hard time convincing Harper that he's worthy and that he should give love a chance, and though he was a bit of a stick-in-the-mud in the beginning he wasn't as difficult as everyone kept saying. A lot of that had to do with the fact that little Stephanie just could keep her nosy little match making thoughts out of the mix, and pretty much tied herself into knots trying to help Drina get Harper to realize what everyone else already knew...That he and Drina are meant for each other. Together, Drina and Harper's relationship was "awww!" worthy, & there were several Sandstastic `naked and unconscious on the floor' moments. Outside of the relationship I found Harper average, loveable but baseline. Drina was a big plus though. She is a a self assured female who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to grab it. She's also smart, sexy, deep and a warrior in more than 1 way. While The Reluctant Vampire wasn't our favorite of the series thus far, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read. Slightly more romance based than the previous Rogue Hunter installments, it's great for those that got hooked on the Argeneau series because of that, and fans and followers of the series will be happy to reunite with some of their favorite cast members. While it could be read alone we would strongly suggest that you not. All in all, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Reluctant Vampire 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it to Lynsay Sands and Argeneau fans, and Paranormal Romance readers who like wit in their read.

Tempted

Elisabeth Naughton

Our Review [by LA's Pack Alpha Michelle L Olson]: WOW! All of the elements you want, need, and dream about for a phenomenal mythological fantasy and so, so much more. Gods, Goddesses, Witches... Heroes sweeping in to rescue their princesses and save the day... Those are just a few of the things that this book will give you as a reader. Demetrius is sort of a tough nut to crack. He's edgy, gritty and just a wee bit cocky, but under the surface you can tell that he's not quite what he appears and that there may be more than meets the eye-- Especially since it's quite obvious that he uses this persona to distance himself from the very lovely Isadora. Isadora is a spoiled Princess who has been kidnapped and is in some pretty deep doo doo. She tries her hardest to escape, but when the one holding you isn't a stranger, it makes things just that much more difficult. Torn by his honor and duty to rescue Isadora and his desire to protect her from himself, Demetrius throws himself into the fray like any good hero would. While he's done pretty much everything he can to keep the distance between them up to this point and come off as a cold S.O.B in order to protect her from the darkness within himself, them ending up stranded together and fighting for their lives starts to melt that ice and they both start to come to terms with the inevitable. Isadora changes as well. She goes from spoiled, pampered princess to strong and independent woman. These changes in herself seem to bring about a clarity for her regarding Demetrius as well, and she realizes that he's not being truthful with her. The more she picks at the chips in the paint, the more she can see of the true canvas underneath, though this is one complex canvas to unveil. Elisabeth does a smashing job of keeping Isadora in the dark while letting the readers in on Demetrius's secrets, which just makes the things he does more heroic and makes you fall in love with him even more. Add to that the fact that this book has non-stop action and adventure, sexy, steamy romance, and poetic imagery so vivid that things as intangible as an emotion are plainly written all over the characters' faces (pun intended) and it's sort of the perfect read. For those that read and loved the first 2 books of the series, all of the Argonauts make a return appearance; Callia and Casey, Hades, Orpheus (who plays a very big part and has some of the most spectacular dialogue ever), Atalanta causing as much (if not more!) trouble as usual, and Nick. Tempted is a non-stop wonderfully crazy adventure that you don't ever want to stop! You will be hooked from the very first page, and you will be so utterly and completely captivated by the story you will want for nothing more than to get lost in the tale forever. DISCLAIMER: make sure you have plenty of time for this one because housework, grocery shopping, that `Charlie Brown' "Whaa wa waaaa" from the DH... They're going to be completely ignored until you turn the last page! And then you might as well warn the family in advance too, because you're going to be peeved for a couple of hours afterwards (regardless of the euphoric high you'll get) because the next book isn't available yet! So if you couldn't guess, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Tempted 5 Skulls (we'd give it more if we could!) and would recommend it to, well... EVERYONE!! Keep them coming Elisabeth! We have questions that need answers and you're the only one who can deliver these scrumptious Argonauts in true Naughton fashion...

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: Being the intelligent, curious woman that she is, Kira finds herself questioning what is really going on at the research facility she works for. Getting a rush of bravery, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find out just what kind of secrets her bosses are keeping. Jaxon is a military guy officially on leave for the weekend and looking for a good time in Vegas, until he's thrown into the middle of Kira's little plan and everything goes to hell. Thrown together by circumstance, the two must work with one another, though the one thing they'll have to work hardest at is making a decision what to do about the undeniable attraction between them. The character premise of this book was amazing... Shifters who each have additional psychic gifts as well, working together to rid the world of the bad guys, both human and non. The minute you meet each of the characters and learn their affinities, you develop an instant love for them, even if you already liked them before based on personality alone, you can't help but start to pick your favorites and wish for the next books in the series before the first is even finished. Add to that the fact that each and every one of them have a back-story that defines them and you have the first book of a series that will have you swearing because you have to wait for the next installment. This book has everything; and I mean everything!! Shifters of multiple varieties, gremlins, sorcerers, necromancers, Fey, special-ops soldiers, government conspiracies, romance, mystery, action, wit... I could go on and on. I read several reviews that said that it was overdone and unbelievable. Hello, it's paranormal! As LITERAL ADDICTION's motto says, "Beyond the natural and the normal lie the Supernatural and Paranormal. Anything less.... Just isn't enough!" The storyline was jam packed, but in my personal opinion, not overwhelming in the least. It had a logical flow -beginning, crescendo, end - that had me literally vocalizing my discontent, excitement, etc while reading, and reading the last page with one though firmly in mind, "Aw, come on! I have to wait until 2012!!?". :-) LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives this book 5 Skulls and would recommend it to Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, and Magick and Shifter fans far and wide. As some of the low rating reviews will tell you though, if you're looking for a simple, single storyline PNR, this is not it! If you're looking for a fast paced, action packed romance overflowing with paranormal that will have you squealing from mid-book throughout...this is a definite read!! I cannot wait for Book #2! Huge kudos J.D! :-)

Deeper Than Midnight A Midnight Breed Novel
by
Lara Adrian
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION¡¦s Pack Alpha ¡V Michelle L Olson]: I am a HUGE Breed series fan, and was looking forward to this release like nobody¡¦s business. Now that I¡¦ve read it and had some time to think on it, I can safely say in print that this book was not my favorite of the series, but it was still a very good installment. I¡¦m sure as soon as I read Darker After Midnight, I¡¦ll feel that everything that happened in Deeper Than Midnight was completely necessary for the series as a whole, as that¡¦s what this book felt like to me¡K a set up for the next installment (similar to what other authors do with novellas released between books in a series). I have always had a soft spot for Hunter, ever since he took it upon himself to be free and joined up with ¡¥the good guys¡¦ (the silent, broody, ¡¥broken¡¦ types are always a weakness of mine. º) My favorite Breed Male is Chase though, and this book was almost more about him than it was about Hunter. While that should have made me very happy, it was this conundrum that sort of left me scratching my head and wondering if it was Lara¡¦s intention for this book to be a big segue into Darker After Midnight, or if she really felt like she had to tell Hunter¡¦s story and it just sort of ended up as a lead-in story to the next book. Character-wise: Hunter was the strong, capable male we expect him to be in this book, but it was also wonderful to see him experience some real emotion -- heart breaking at times, frustrating at others, but wonderful. As for Corinne, I wasn¡¦t sure that I was going to like her at the beginning. She felt a little weak to me, but after her secrets are revealed and her single minded determination becomes evident, you realize just how much of a survivor she really is and I started warming to her. She and Hunter work well together and I think this was a good pairing in the end, but the steamy chemistry that we¡¦ve come to expect from Lara¡¦s Breed series just wasn¡¦t there with these two. I don¡¦t know if it was done on purpose because of the history of each of the characters themselves and the fact that Lara felt that the usual explosiveness wouldn¡¦t be believable with these two or what, but in my honest opinion, while enjoyable and believable, the romance was a little flat for me . Plotline: As I stated earlier, a LARGE part of the book was about Chase and his struggles with demons within and without. I loved that, and soaked up as much Harvard as I could with this book... We get tie-ins with several of the other characters as well; Mira, Dante, Tess, etc, which was great also. The baseline of what the synopsis hinted at though, Hunter and Corinne¡¦s story and their ultimate goal as a team, while entertaining, felt like it never got closure, and I can only hope that more of that is resolved In Darker After Midnight as well. I literally hit ¡§next page¡¨ on my Kindle expecting at least another chapter only to find out that there WASN¡¦T a next page¡K All-in-all, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Deeper Than Midnight 3 1/2 Skulls. It was well written, as everything in Lara¡¦s repertoire is, and it was enjoyable, also as everything Lara writes is, but it left me wanting & wondering a little bit too much to give it the 4+ Skulls I had hoped to award it. I definitely recommend that all Midnight Breed fans read this, as there is so much ¡¥filler story¡¦ in it, and so much of that ¡¥filler¡¦ is Sterling Chase related, I can¡¦t imagine reading Darker After Midnight without having read Deeper Than Midnight.

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: The Morganville Vampires are one of my favorite series, regardless of whether they're YA or Adult, and they continue to get better and better. The story opens with something as simple as a gym opening up in Morganville, providing entertainment and something to break the monotony for Morganville's human residents. This "gym" isn't what it appears to be though, and those that sign up are in for a bit more than they bargained for. We get more of our villains that we love to hate, more of our heroes that we love to love (and this time, it's the women that play the larger heroine role!), more of our beloved and whacky Myrnin (that I personally just can't get enough of... EVER!!), tons of action, plenty of intrigue, twists, turns, surprises, romance, and a storyline that was perfect for the series and its progression, for in it, we get to explore more of Shane's `dark side' that we've seen showing itself over the past few books. This book doesn't need a lengthy review. It was in a word...fantastic, and I can't wait for the next installment! LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Bite Club 4 and ½ Skulls and would recommend it to both YA and Adult Fantasy Readers, vampire lovers and even paranormal romance readers (if you're looking for PNR on the tame side). I do suggest, however, that you start the series from the beginning. There is just WAY too much you'll miss if you start here with Bite Club. You won't regret it, I promise... :-)

Succubus Revealed Georgina Kincaid 6
by
Richelle Mead
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: I have been a fan of the Georgina Kincaid series since the day I randomly picked up a copy of Succubus Blues and wasn't able to put it down until I had devoured the last sentence of the last available book; Succubus Shadows, Book #5. The series has everything I look for in a good Urban Fantasy - Action, wit, great dialogue, strategically placed steamy (and very REAL) romance, and best of all...intrigue. While it's hard for me to believe the series is done, Richelle couldn't have closed it out better than she did with Succubus Revealed. In this installment, we have seasoned characters who have gone through hell (pun intended) to be where they are currently - together and happy. While that is enough, there are still things - real-life things - that need to be dealt with outside of their shiny happiness, and during their true living of life in this book, yet another curveball is sent their way (not shocking for Georgina). At first it looks like there could be a way to overcome the hurdle that's put in their path, until it's revealed that there is WAY more to the sudden job transfer notice than meets the eye; it looks to be an honest to goodness conspiracy, and when you work for Hell, you're not paranoid if they really ARE out to get you! With the help of her faithful friend and conspiracy theorist Roman, Georgina begins to unpeel the layers of the mystery onion, to get to the heart of the matter. In doing so, the biggest bombshell of the series yet is dropped, and I found myself in bed at 1:30 a.m. exclaiming expletives out loud and waking up my other ½ -- it was just that shocking, and that GOOD!. ' The downward slide of the novel's crescendo was filled with `what-ifs', literal soul gambling, and putting everything on the line for love even when Georgina wasn't sure she'd have a love to go back to. It was heart-pumping, breath-holding Urban Fantasy at its best, and Richelle Mead delivered like nobody's business! There was a definite `lesson' in this book, and I think it can be summed up with an amazing quote from the end of the book: "How we love others is affected by how we love ourselves, and for the first time in a long time, I was whole. I knew who I was and in turn was able to appreciate just how much I loved him". ~Georgina Kincaid. Succubus Revealed by: Richelle Mead. I could gush forever, but I'll get straight to the rating. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Succubus Revealed 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone - Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers far and wide. If you're looking for a series that has a mix of supernatural creatures and plenty of Hell driven drama but that is still very `real' and relatable, then the Georgina Kincaid series is definitely for you. This is a series that you have to read in order though in my opinion. There are just so many layers and things that make the characters who they are that happen book to book, that picking up a book in the middle of the series would be unfair to you as a reader. So... if you haven't read any of Georgina yet, go get Succubus Blues and start the series now! If you already caught up and are just waiting to read Succubus Revealed to wrap the series up for yourself, don't wait any longer; move it to the top of your TBR list immediately! You won't be disappointed, I promise.

Twilight Fulfilled

Maggie Shayne

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: The wonderfulness of this book can be gleaned from one of the best literary quotes ever in my opinion... "Never, has a great king been brought so low by one so slight. My heart...you hold in your hands. The mighty heart of an immortal king is more fragile than a butterfly's wings in your grasp. No arrow, no weapon, could pierce its stonelike shell. And yet at your touch, at your kiss, it quivers like a frightened lamb. I find there is anything I will not do if you only ask it. These things I admit to you with great trepidation. -Maggie Shayne, Twilight Fulfilled" If your heart did not just melt at that, then... The last in an epic journey, Twilight Fulfilled left me laughing, cheering, squealing, and ultimately crying; all with a smile. An action-packed thrill ride, Twilight Fulfilled leads you on a roller coaster of human (er...immortal??) emotion, dissects the way that society affects our way of thinking with propaganda and the like, thereby planting seeds of doubt where none should belong. It also proves that even in some of the direst of circumstances, love really CAN conquer all. Knowing the author the little that I do, I'm almost certain that last one was the big `message' she was hoping to get across with this book, and she did it beautifully. I'm very saddened, yet in a light hearted way, to see this series come to an end. It has been a cornerstone of strength for me on many an occasion and I can pretty much guarantee that I'll be going back to its books for repeat performances and re-reads! Maggie is a genius with the written word, truly did write vampires before vampires were cool, and has wrapped up Wings in the Night with a pretty blood red bow--a gift for any reader! LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Twilight Fulfilled 4 ½ Skulls. We definitely recommend it for ALL Maggie Shayne fans, Urban Fantasy readers, Vampire lovers, and even Paranormal Romance addicts (though this installment was more about the story and tying up the series than the sex). Three cheers for Maggie Shayne, Twilight Fulfilled, and the entire Wings in the Night series. You truly have been my Author Lifesaver....

Where Demons Fear to Tread Company of Angels 01

, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Carlyn McKechnie]: Serena is a new Guardian Angel. She died while saving two children and attempting to save their mother as well. As a Guardian Angel, she is charged with saving the soul of Nick, a young and up-and-coming actor. Nick was a slightly neglected child, and therefore loves his new found fame and fortune - attention he never received from his parents. He goes to Devil's Paradise where sinning is expected (and encouraged!), especially since it's owned by an Archdemon called Julian, whose job it is to deliver souls to hell, and whose specialty is corrupting people. When Serena goes into the club to try and coax Nick away from the tempting influences, she meets Julian who is immediately enthralled by her. Julian decides that he would like to add Serena's soul to his collection... This is a classic story of good and evil, but is written beautifully. Serena tries so hard to be a good Guardian, but she is out of her league when she goes up against Julian who has had centuries of experience in seduction. Her belief in `good' is put to the test, but she handles it well and you end up loving her for her faith. I loved Julian for exactly the opposite reason though; I love his efforts to seduce Serena and the underhanded tactics he uses to get her to go along with his plans, but then again I am a big fan of a bad boy! The story flows very well and you can feel the struggle Serena has with her feelings for Julian. It is a great story about love and faith I'm hoping to see more stories from this world! LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club's Guest Reviewer gives Where Demons Fear to Tread 4 Skulls. LITERAL ADDICTION recommends it for Urban Fantasy readers, Angel and Demon lovers, and Paranormal Romance addicts.

Darkest Surrender Lords of the Underworld 10
by
Gena Showalter
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: There have been 7 books before The Darkest Surrender that kept my interest, made me cringe to put them down, and made me clamor for the next installment. The Darkest Surrender took those things to an infinite level. I can safely say that this has been my personal favorite of the series and Gena just keeps getting more brilliant with each book she writes. Strider gave us what we loved from him in each of the previous books - an egomaniacal smartass who makes it impossible NOT to love him. :- Like the ending of the previous book though, you start out the book just wanting to slap him because he's fighting the inevitable - his undeniable attraction to Kaia. Kaia is the type of heroine I love...Strong, independent, fighting personal demons, but not afraid to admit her need for her man. I absolutely loved the cross-over again of the Immortals After Dark characters from Kresley Cole's series and Gena's Lords of the Underworld. If there were any immortals that were perfect for the Lords, it'd be those girls. :- I am waiting for the day when we see if Nix gets her pick of a Lord; though we're running short on them, since Gena has been finding their perfect matches book after book. LOL. This book had it all! Endless action, incredibly witty moments that had me embarrassingly snorting my laughter out loud and disturbing the people around me, unbelievably tender moments that were made even the more amazing because of the people they were happening to/between , intrigue, suspense, oh...did I mention the sizzling romance. The Darkest Surrender was a great set up for the rest of the series as well. We learn more about Paris and his inner struggles that I can only hope are resolved in The Darkest Seduction, and we get the set up for Kane's story as well. It just made me want the next 2 books even more. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Darkest Surrender 5 Skulls. We definitely recommend it for ALL Gena Showalter fans, Paranormal Romance addicts, and even Urban Fantasy readers because there is plenty of darkness and action amongst a multitude of different supernatural creatures in-between the romance to keep those readers happy. Love Gena Showalter and Lords of the Underworld! Keep up the incredible work; I can't wait to read Paris and Kane's stories! :-)

Darkness Unbound

Keri Arthur
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: Keri Arthur has been one of my favorite authors for quite some time and the Riley Jenson series has been one of my favorites. With 9 books in that series that held me captive, you can imagine how excited I was to hear that Keri was writing a spin-off series featuring the incredible daughter of Dia Jones. What I didn't expect when starting Darkness Unbound was that it would quickly jump to the forefront of `my favorite books ever' list. I was asked the other day what I look for in a good Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance book. My answer, "intrigue". Well, Darkness Unbound gave me that times 100, and so, SO much more! This series is going to be incredible, if the first installment is anything to go by. It literally had it all... Heart pumping action, massive amounts of intrigue, toe curling romance, a captivating plot, and the ending had you wishing that the next book was sitting inches away so you could start it immediately. The characters were amazing as well. Strong, capable, female leads, uber sexy alpha males, and enough magick to keep even the pickiest of readers happy; there were shifters, witches, angels (the Aedh), reapers, demons, vampires, clairvoyants and more. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Darkness Unbound 5 Skulls, and sincerely wishes there were more to give! We HIGHLY recommend it for, well... EVERYONE! Keri Arthur fans will adore it, but more than that, it had everything you want in a perfectly written Urban Fantasy, and just enough hot and steamy sex and romance to keep Paranormal Romance lovers happy as well. While it definitely isn't necessary to read the Riley Jenson, Guardian series first in order to understand and appreciate the Dark Angels series, in my personal opinion it would help. The supporting characters and historical references (from a book standpoint) will mean SO much more to you as a reader if you've lived their lives with them first, and grew up with Risa, so to speak, before jumping into her incredible life at age 28, where Darkness Unbound picks up. BIG kudos for Keri and the Dark Angels series! November cannot get here fast enough to get Darkness Unleashed into my hot little hands...

Adam The Nightwalkers
by
Jacquelyn Frank
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: Jacquelyn Frank is an amazing artist with the written word and Adam did not disappoint. This book is going to be very hard to review without giving things away (and believe me, with this book, you don't want ANY spoilers because from the first page to the end it's an amazing rollercoaster), so I'll just stick to generalities, character observations and personal feelings and hope that it's enough to give people what they need when reading a review to determine whether or not to pick up a book. Character wise, most of our favorites are back in this installment. We're graced by the Enforcers, the Demon King and his mate, the Vampire Prince and his mate, the `police' of the Nightwalkers, our love to loathe villains, and so many more. Most importantly however, this book focuses on Adam and Jasmine. Adam is a strong, virile and confident male lead with a turbulent present and feelings that he doesn't know what to do with. Jasmine, as usual, is an amazingly strong, confident heroine, though we get to investigate some vulnerabilities that I wasn't aware she had, and it made me love her even more. Together, these two make an amazing power couple, fighting the good fight, and learning from one another each step of the way. It was frustrating, titillating, tantalizing, and tender all at the same time. Plot wise, as I said, I really don't want to spoil anything, so let me just say that from the first 20 pages of this book, you will be shocked, amazed, awed, and a number of other adjectives I could carry on with. Jacquelyn grips the reader IMMEDIATELY and doesn't let go. Even after the last page you feel that she quite possibly could have more in store, and is chuckling about what might be yet to come. This book had more surprises, twists and turns and intrigue than I knew what to do with, and if you follow my reviews, you know I'm a HUGE fan of the intrigue, so that's saying a lot. :-) As always, Jacquelyn gave us an amazing Nightwalker installment, and I certainly hope that the story as it played out in this book continues, because I would love to learn more. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Adam 4 1/2 Skulls, and recommends it to all Jacquelyn Frank fans, Urban Fantasy lovers, Paranormal Romance addicts and anyone who wants a gripping, emotion-filled read. We highly recommend that you read the entire series in order of publication though. While this book can be read as a stand-alone, it will have way more reader impact if you've lived the lives of the Nightwalkers and know about each couple's story.

First Grave on the Right
by
Darynda Jones
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: Darynda Jones's debut novel was a smart, sexy, sassy, sophisticated breath of fresh air and utterly fantastic from start to finish! Our heroine, Charley Davidson, is a Grim Reaper and gateway to heaven. She's also a ridiculously funny, smart, sexy, sarcastic Private Investigator and consultant to the APD with attention deficit disorder. Our hero, Reyes Farrow, is an enigma. He's Charley's dream guy (literally), but appears to be oh so much more and reading his tale unravel was like peeling a golden onion. The supporting characters are loveable and absolutely perfect for the story, perfectly placed and elaborated upon by Ms. Jones. The plot of First Grave on the Right was also genius - a multiple homicide with more angles and twists than a slinky leaving me putting off meals, housework, and pretty much everything just so I could read more. LITERAL ADDICTION gives First Grave on the Right 5 Skulls, and would recommend it to everyone! I'm super excited for the upcoming installments of this series. It's a definite winner and a straight shot to the top of my favorites list.

Second Grave on the Left

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: 1st and foremost, I found myself shaking my head over and over while reading this book, wondering how in the world Daryda can be such a genius with words even when it's filler. I'm utterly amazed at her ability to turn EVERYTHING funny, even when the characters are in dire straits. It truly is a gift... O.K, on to the book. An amazing follow-up to First Grave on the Right. Another smart, sexy, sassy, sophisticated read, with incredible action, mystery, and romance. Per usual, Charley is constantly finding herself in trouble, though this time she's not only trying to solve a missing person case for the APD and her best friend Cookie, she's also trying desperately to save Reyes from himself. Reyes doesn't make it easy on her AT ALL, and while we learn a little bit more about the enigma that is Reyes Farrow in Second Grave, I know there is still so much to uncover. The underlying stories in this book and the supporting characters' roles were phenomenal. I enjoyed every single offshoot of the main plotline, and found myself right there with the characters at every turn. I laughed (A LOT), I groaned, my heart beat quickened... it was a wonderful journey with a fabulous book, and I'm very excited to dig into Third Grave Dead Ahead. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Second Grave on the Left 5 Skulls and suggests it to anyone who wants a witty, amazing, unique paranormal read. While Second Grave can be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest reading First Grave on the Right before Second Grave to get the full impact of the character's and the story. Believe me, you won't be disappointed!

Burn the Night Dark Days 06

Jocelynn Drake

, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson ¡V LITERAL ADDICTION¡¦s Pack Alpha]: I have been in love with the Dark Days series since I first picked up the initial installment and devoured it in a sitting. To say that it was bitter-sweet to be holding the final book of the series would be an understatement. After putting off reading it over and over again trying to prolong ¡¥the end¡¦, I finally sat down with Burn the Night and braced myself for a whirlwind of emotions¡K Burn the Night is unique, in that you don¡¦t get the book from just 1 person¡¦s point of view. It switches from Nyx to Mira, and by doing so, gives more indepth looks into secondary supporting characters such as Rowe, Danaus, and more. I¡¦ve read several reviews from people who didn¡¦t like this, I thought it was unique and refreshing and utterly enjoyed it. So much happened in this book; every time Mira turned around she had a new challenge to overcome, and as a reader, the journey with her was intense and exciting. After having invested 5 books with the characters of Dark Days, it was wonderful to have appearances from just about everyone and be able to immerse myself in their lives one last time. Over the course of the series, and especially book #5, I found myself softening somewhat towards Rowe. Miraculously, after finishing Burn the Night I actually kind of liked him. º Danaus and Mira are one of my favorite Urban Fantasy couples, and this book was so sweet, so captivating between the two of them, I forgot how angry I was early on in the series having had to wait so long for them to finally get together. Overall, Burn the Night was a wonderful end to an amazing series, and I sincerely hope that Jocelynn has some spin off series planned because while she wrapped everything up beautifully, the thought of leaving this world behind forever is utterly depressing. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Burn the Night 5 skulls and would recommend it to EVERYONE! The Dark Days series is one of my absolute favorite Urban Fantasy series ever and I think that all Urban Fantasy and Paranormal lovers should experience this series and the amazing world Jocelynn created for us.

Not Your Ordinary Faerie Tale
by
Christine Warren
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: This book came up in my Amazon recommendations list. I snatched it up because it looked good, only to read it and find that it was the best Fae book I had ever read. Christine Warren is an amazing story teller. Her characters are witty, strong, independent, and identifiable and her story is well crafted and fluid. I found out after starting this book that it is actually the 12th of the Others series, but I wasn't lost at all (though I did read somewhere that this was actually a rewrite of a story done with Ellora's Cave and therefore was more standalone than the other of the series). Corinne is a reporter with multiple friends who have become involved with or married members of the supernatural community. She has basically sworn that while she loves them, she will never be one to date outside of her species. Luc is the captain of the guard for Queen Mab of the Summer Court. He is sent to the human realm to find and bring home the queen's nephew, Seoc, before he can cause too much trouble and spill the secret of the Others. The minute Luc sees Corinne he feels something he has never felt before, and 1 touch is all it takes for him to know that it's more than just idle attraction. Once some things are brought to light, Luc can no longer deny that Corinne is his heartmate and he knows that he'll do anything to keep her by his side. Corinne plays coy and puts on a good poker face, but she can't deny the feelings that Luc imparts. After teaming up to find Seoc together, thus getting her story for her boss, keeping her friends safe and helping Luc with his mission, one things leads to another and she is helpless to do anything but feel. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Not your Ordinary Faerie Tale 5 skulls and would recommend it to everyone - Paranormal Romance lovers, Urban Fantasy readers, and anyone who likes strong, witty female leads, sexy, alpha, sensitive male leads, and a story with just enough twists and turns to keep you engaged from the 1st to the last page.

Lothaire
by
Kresley Cole
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I simply adore the Immortals After Dark series. They were one of the first Paranormal Romance series that I got addicted to, and that has not changed release after release. Book after book, however, I found myself wondering when we'd get certain characters' books - Lothaire and Nix were 2 at the very top of my list - so when it was announced that book #12 would be Lothaire's book, I was ecstatic to say the least. I had the book pre-ordered through Premiere Collectibles as a signed and numbered 1st Edition, I had it preordered for Kindle so I could actually read it immediately on release day, and because I was so busy with life on release day and the two days after, I ordered it on Audible as an audiobook as well. :) I don't regret ANY of those purchases, nor my copies from the FL signing, because this book was, in my honest opinion, the best IAD yet! The big question in a lot of reader's minds was: "How in the world is Kresley going to make Lothaire, the evil Enemy of Old, into a hero?" It's a good question. Lothaire has been evil since the first time we met him. We knew he went through a lot, but didn't know exactly what, yet time after time he'd present a conundrum - do I hate him, or do I love him BECAUSE he's so bad? He'd do something despicable, followed by something halfway decent, even if it was only to serve his own purposes, and leave us all wondering just what side of the fence we should be on with him. What I loved about this book is that Kresley didn't force it. She didn't try to make Lothaire into something or someone he's not. She let him be the sinfully yummy evil vamp that we've all come to adore be who he is, which had me putting myself in Ellie's shoes wanting to kick his ass one moment and kiss him breathless the next. That's the other thing I loved about this book. The pairing was so out of left field, I started the book wondering how in the world it would work, until I learned more about the kind of person Ellie was and realized just how perfect it was. Evil, sarcastic, controlling Lothaire meets his match in headstrong, stubborn, willful Ellie Ann Peirce. This was also, by far, the HOTTEST Immortals After Dark yet. I'm a connoisseur of Paranormal Romance and Erotica of all types so not much surprises me anymore, but there were parts in this book that had my temperature rising and a blush staining my cheeks. :) Add in that I was listening to Robert Petcoff do Lothaire's sexy Russian accent during those parts and it was particularly naughty. Outside of the amazing characters and the steamy romance, Kresley's world and story building was, as always, superb. While this book could actually be read as a stand-alone if so desired, there was also just enough history uncovered amongst the characters to not only thicken the plot but give us serial readers some wonderful moments. The bits that were uncovered surrounding Lothaire and Nix's past were particularly enjoyable for me, as were Hag's story, and the best parts expanded upon from book #11. There were also some shocking secrets uncovered and surprises revealed in Lothaire about some other characters in the Lore; particularly in the Epilogue of the book. While it's a cliffhanger, if Kresley continues true to form, wherein each installment of the Immortals After Dark series gets better than the one before, we have some amazing reads to look forward to - not only with the direct IAD books, but also with the spinoff series that she has planned. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Lothaire 5 Skulls and would recommend it to EVERYONE! If you have not yet started the IAD series, you really need to consider bumping it to the top of your TBR lists, because it's a keeper. There's something for everyone in these books, and they just get better and better.

The Marked Son

Our Review [by a LITERAL ADDICTION Associate Guest Reviewer]: I wasn't sure what to expect from this book since I didn't read the blurb, but I absolutely loved it! It had pretty much everything including action, romance, drama and friendship. Dylan is 17 and hasn't had the easiest life so far his mother moves him around the country constantly after falling in and out of love with less than savory men and shows no love to her son and he can't make friends since he is moving about so much. Dylan has been having dreams about a girl since he was a young boy and never seems to fit in anywhere. When his mother abandons him with grandparents who he has just met you feel really sorry for him and you really begin to hate his mother. He sees the girl from his dreams in the woods outside his grandparent's home and then everything starts to go wrong. This is not your typical young adult book in the way that it can get really quite dark sometimes and even I was quite shocked at some parts and had to read parts again to see if that had really happened! I loved watching Dylan form relationships with other people as it was a very new experience for him and it was great to see people accept him for who he was and letting his bitterness go. Kera has grown up in a different world altogether and it is a harsh and cruel one and she has her own secrets to hide. The other characters in this story were great and I can't wait to read more from this wonderful author and hear more from Dylan and Kera! I would recommend it to anyone who loves YA, magic, action and one hell of a ride!

Her Guardian Angel: Her Angel Romance Series

, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by a LITERAL ADDICTION Associate Guest Reviewer]: Her Guardian Angel by Felicity Heaton is book #4 in the Her Angels series. It can be read as a stand alone or in order, but I recommend you read in order as couples from the previous books show up in this book. Marcus is Amelia's Guardian Angel. He has been watching over her all her life. She is his assignment, and Marcus is all about his job. Amelia is very unlucky in love, with one bad relationship after another. When Marcus, her new neighbor, gets rid of her violent ex-boyfriend, Amelia wonders if maybe Marcus could be "the one". Marcus just wants to get his job over with, but wonders why his superiors will not tell him what he is protecting Amelia from. What Marcus and Amelia don't know is what their part is in the largest war ever waged in history...the battle between Heaven and Hell. While protecting Amelia, Marcus starts to understand why his fellow Angels have fallen for mortal women. If you love a tall, dark and handsome Angel, and a very strong female lead, then this book is for you! Ms. Heaton has done it again. Wonderful characters, great plot with many twist and turns and an ending that will make you go, WOW!. LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Guest Reviewer gives Her Guardian Angel 4 ½ Skulls.

Vampire for Christmas
by
Laurie London, Michele Hauf, Caridad Pineiro
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by a LITERAL ADDICTION Associate Guest Reviewer]: A Vampire for Christmas is an anthology of paranormal romance all taking place over the holidays. What could be better than reading about four vampires looking for love at a time when love is overflowing in the human heart? Each novella has a deeper message; educating the reader on the human/vampire connection. Enchanted by Blood, Laurie London's contribution, is set in a time when vampires are still struggling with identity and attempting to keep hidden from humans. Trace Westfalen is the leader of the Guardians in Seattle and spends much of his time trying to keep the peace in the city. Charlotte Grant is an interior designer who is hired by Trace's grandmother to decorate their home for Christmas. An affair develops between the two, and they fall in love. At a holiday party, however, Charlotte walks in on a vampire drinking blood from a guest and before she has a chance to react, Trace wipes away her memory. He, as a Guardian, is not allowed to be involved with a human and he is forced to walk away. A year later, Trace saves Charlotte from a group of rogue vampires and realizes how much he still loves her. What should he do? Should he follow his heart and try to win her love again? Monsters Don't Do Christmas by Michele Hauf takes place in modern day New York. Daniel Harrison has been a vampire for only a year and is having a difficult time accepting his new lifestyle. Olivia Adorata is an independent woman who meets Daniel after she rescues him from some bully werewolves. She laughs when he tells her what he is, thinking he's an actor who gets his kicks by scaring women. He's gorgeous, ripped, and everything she wants in a guys... except he's a vampire - though that might be alright. Maybe being bitten by a handsome vamp wouldn't be so terrible? She invites him home, saying that he needs medical care, and is totally fascinated by him. He's totally fascinated with her as well, and can't believe that she is so accepting of him. Daniel has a great job, money, a fancy car - a life - but he lost it all when he was bitten. He calls himself a monster and can't accept what he's become. He doesn't want to celebrate Christmas or anything else. Olivia considers herself a monster as well - a talented upcoming singer who tries to hide during the day and live a quiet life - hiding from fame because she's a coward. Instead, she bakes cookies and goes around her neighborhood giving them out for the holidays. She can't accept what she is any more than Daniel can accept what he is, and they help each other come to terms with life and what it has to offer. Caridad Pineiro's story, When Herald Angels Sing, is about love, redemption and guardian angels. The Archangel Raphael decides to save the soul of Damien - a turned vampire - who, despite a horrid childhood and miserable undead life, still tries to help his fellow man when he sees it is needed. Raphael sends guardian angel Angelina to help him make the necessary transformation but against rules, she falls in love with Damien and interferes in a dangerous situation to protect him. She is killed and returns to heaven humiliated and chastised by Raphael. This happens twice but Archangel Raphael is determined to save his soul so he sends Angelina down for a third and final time. She is to reveal who she is and explain why she is there. She is to help him accept his fate and not interfere in whatever is fated to happen. If she does interfere, she will be banished from heaven and become a human again. But Angelina, upon seeing Damien again, realizes how much she loves him and is not sure if she wants them to return to heaven or stay on earth and love each other eternally. The last novella, All I Want for Christmas by Alexis Morgan is a tale where vampires are number one on the food chain and humans come in last. Eagan McHale was born a vamp and takes it seriously. He is a policeman whose job it is to keep vamps and werewolves under control; to keep them away from the human population. In a crime spree where vamps are paying humans to feed on them, Eagan uses a local diner, owned by Della, as a post to keep an eye on what's going on in the streets. He is instantly attracted to Della's warm heart, humanitarian ways and home cooking. But, she's human, and he does not want to get involved. He doesn't want to drink the blood of a human woman and to him, that's a big part of lovemaking. But being in the diner every night makes his desire grow stronger, especially when he realizes she feels the same way about him. But a dangerous situation changes everything and in this fast paced, quick-wit story, having to tell Della the truth opens up a whole can of worms. Over all in this antho, love conquers all and the collection is bright, sparkly and festive as it should be. LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Guest Reviewer gives A Vampire for Christmas 4 1/2 Skulls.

Our Review [by a LITERAL ADDICTION Associate Guest Reviewer]: When David is released by his master from 250 years of sensory deprived captivity he is thrust into the world of life, color and touch. When he is sent to a club to locate his mark he can't keep his eyes away from a beautiful woman named Beka but he know he must not give in to his desires as it would transform him into a full demon and he wants to keep his last shred of humanity for as long as he can. When he finds out that Beka and her brother are Guardian's, whose job it is to protect the mark he was sent to retrieve, David has to decide whether to betray Beka, his master or himself. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't read the pages fast enough. David has had a really crappy life. His mother sold him to the devil before he was even born and he must do his masters bidding or he suffers for it. When he is first released from his most recent captivity he is overwhelmed and out of touch with the times but he is watched by another demon who likes nothing more than to taunt and tempt him. His reaction to Beka is beautiful as he knows he cannot touch her. He is the perfect mix of alpha male with a lot of vulnerability thrown in. Beka is so different from him she is everything that is good and doesn't have any problem with protecting herself. She is intrigued by David as soon as she meets him but she doesn't know he is a demon. When David saves Beka and betrays his own kind he realizes he must try to find a way to get out of his contract and he realizes that his mark could be the key. This book had it all. Action, romance, mystery and kept me guessing until the last minute. It is beautifully written and so easy to follow that it was a pleasure to read. I would recommend this to anyone who likes, angels, demons, action, romance and a story that will keep you up till 3am because you just couldn't put it down! LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Guest Reviewer gives Wasteland 4 Skulls.

Darker After Midnight
by
Lara Adrian
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I've been following the Midnight Breed series from book one. After each installment I wait impatiently for each new release, sit down to read them, enjoy every word, and yet, book after book, wanted nothing more than for Chase to find his HEA. Darker after Midnight is Sterling Chase's book, and while I felt like I had been waiting for it forever and was afraid that I had put too high of expectations on it, I should never have worried... this book was fantastic - everything I was hoping for and SO much more. After the climactic end of Hunter's book, I couldn't help but wonder how in the world Chase's book would turn out. How would he get himself out of that mess, how would he redeem himself to his brothers after everything he put himself and them through in the last few books, how in the world would Lara be able to resolve all of that in one book, etc. All of those questions were answered, along with a multitude of other little holes from the series I didn't even realize were there. Lara packed so much into this book it was a non-stop thrill ride of epic proportions and I never wanted to get off. Darker after Midnight brings to light so many things about the Ancients, about Dragos, about different members of the Breed and their mates that while it's Chase's story and he's our hero, this book is the fireworks display of the Midnight Breed series and in my honest opinion, the very best book of the bunch. Lara wrapped up the main series beautifully at the end of Darker after Midnight and supplied an amazing segue to the new books in the series - which sound a bit like spin offs with the younger generation as our heroines and heroes. Mira's book is due up next and I cannot wait for its release. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Darker after Midnight 5 skulls and feels like that isn't even adequate for the gift of this book. We recommend it to everyone - Paranormal Romance lovers, Urban Fantasy readers, anyone who loves fast paced, action packed, intense reads with gripping characters and spectacular storylines woven into a phenomenally crafted world. If you haven't started the Midnight Breed series yet, we highly suggest that you bump it up to the top of your TBR list and get started today. **ARC received from author**

Third Grave Dead Ahead, Book #3 of the Charley Davidson series Author: Darynda Jones Synopsis: Charley Davidson--grim reaper extraordinaire, private investigator . . . meh--is practicing her profession under the influence, caffeine and copious amounts of it, due to an extreme desire to induce insomnia. Every time she closes her eyes, Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan, is there. Only thing is, he's a tad peeved. She did bind for all eternity, so it's hard blame him. But 13 days without a wink is bound to bring out the crazy in a girl. So, when a man hires her to find his wife, Charley accepts the job with one goal in mind: Put the man behind bars, and not the wet kind. She can sense the guilt waft off him and vows to find the woman's body and prove he's a murderer. In the meantime, Reyes is back in prison and none too happy about it . . . so Charley thinks, until she is carjacked by the dark-haired rake, who swears the very man he went to prison for killing is not only alive, but close by. And he wants Charley to find him. While a visit to her old friend Rocket sheds no light on Reyes's situation, Charley finds out the man's wife is still alive and time is running out. Finding her before she dies would be a miracle, but she has to try. Together with the help of a fashion-impaired receptionist named Cookie, Charley sets out to bring the bad guys to justice. She just hopes Reyes is not one of them. And that she's not hallucinating from her self-induced bout with insomnia. Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I'm a Darynda Jones groupie. A Charley Davidson fangirl. I'm not afraid to admit it! I loved the first two books in this series, and when I was lucky enough to get an ARC from Darynda's publisher for Third Grave, I was giddy. Like the first two books of the series, the novel was a smart, sexy, sassy, sophisticated breath of fresh air and utterly fantastic from start to finish! I was literally laughing out loud 2 pages into this book. As usual, our heroine, Charley Davidson, grim reaper and private investigator extraordinaire gets herself into bind after bind without even trying. Add in the fact that she's been awake for over 2 weeks straight and she's more of a hot mess than usual. Reyes starts out this book incredibly angry with Charley for what she did to him in Second Grave on the Left. They can't ignore their attraction though, and he can't stop from being there when she needs him regardless. Also as usual, the supporting characters are fabulous. I especially love Cookie in this book. I've loved her all along, but she's grown and I feel like we as readers have grown with her. Aside from the incredible dialogue, intense action, and remarkable characters, the mystery of the storyline was genius. I've loved each plot along the series so far, but this one, with all of its different twists and turns may have been my favorite to date. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Second Grave Dead Ahead 5 Skulls, and would recommend it to everyone! Another phenomenal read by Ms. Darynda Jones. Please don't stop... we need more! **ARC received from publisher**

Eternal Beast: Mark of the Vampire
by
Laura Wright

, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: The discovery of MARK OF THE VAMPIRE will always be a highlight for me. Eternal Hunger was the 1st book of LITERAL ADDICTION's 2nd Reading Event when we were still just a tiny Paranormal BookClub with 8 members. As time has progressed, so has the series, and so has my love for both it and Laura! Immediately upon finishing this book my exact thoughts were: "Holy cow! Smokin' hot & action packed - an amazing read!" :) Now I want to break it down for you all, but it's going to be a bit tough without spoilers because SO much happens in this book. I shall do my best though... The MARK OF THE VAMPIRE world is opened up immensely in this release. There is additional information learned about all facets of the world and its inhabitants and each and every tidbit is titilating and incredible. For those of you that are up-to-speed on the series, the previous eNovella release, "Eternal Blood", revealed to us that Gray's father was the leader of the Impure Resistance. In Eternal Beast we see Gray with a singleminded purpose and an incredible passion, and not only for his cause! Dillon is still messed up over the trauma she endured at the end of the last book at the hands of the Senator and just isn't herself. She seeks Grays help as a form of therapy and inevitably, though they fight it every step of the way, they grow even closer. I can't say much more without ruining things, but I can tell you all this... Dillon and Gray together are UNBELIEVABLE! Smokin' hot, smart, snarky, sexy, sarcastic and just about every other fabulous "S" adjective I can think of. ;-) There are a lot of new characters introduced in Eternal Beast, as well as additional information on ones that we've met briefly before. It was an incredible installment to the series and there are TONS of directions that Laura could go with things now. I'm SO excited to see what the future holds! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Eternal Beast a well deserved 5 Skulls. If you haven't experienced this series yet, you are TOTALLY missing out, and you REALLY need to add it to your TBR and find it from your favorite bookseller ASAP!

Eternal Captive

Eternal Captive, Mark of the Vampire Book #3 Author: Laura Wright Synopsis: Since feeding her his blood, Lucian Roman has struggled with his obsession with Bronwyn Kettler-fighting an uncontrollable desire to kill her, if he has to, and the vampire she has sworn to wed. But when a dangerous enemy threatens Bronwyn, only Lucian can save her life. Even if it means sacrificing his own... Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: From the moment I picked up Eternal Hunger, Mark of the Vampire became one of my favorite paranormal romance series. Laura writes with such passion, such intensity, it's hard not to be drawn in immediately. After reading Eternal Kiss I knew that this series was destined not only to be great, but really and truly special and I couldn't wait for Eternal Blood and Eternal Captive. After devouring Eternal Blood, I was lucky enough to receive an Advance Reading Copy of Eternal Captive, book #3 of the series, from Laura and put aside all other reading to dig in... In a word, Eternal Captive was incredible! I'm not sure there are enough positive adjectives in the English language to describe everything this book has to offer, but let me try a few: 1) It was completely riveting and captivating. From the first page Laura hooks you as a reader, especially if you've invested in the 2 ½ installments prior to EC, and it doesn't let go... ever, because after the last page, you STILL want more. 2) It was thoroughly sensual. All Laura Wright fans know that Laura packs the heat, but this book was downright scorching. Take Laura's sexy, sultry narrative coupled with Luca's smart-a** nature and you have one heck of a combo. 3) It was insanely action-packed and thrilling. The series plotline of Mark of the Vampire has been exhilarating the entire way with the Romans fight against the Order, their internal struggles with themselves and within their small family, etc, but this installment was so intense I literally felt myself holding my breath at times. 4) It was all together intriguing and intense. The twists and turns, the secrets revealed, the continual flow of story and evolution of character... all made for one heck of a ride. This book gave so much to me as a reader it's really hard to write a proper review for it because a) I feel like I'm not doing it justice, and b) I can't tell you anything without spoiling it, so let me just say that this book was everything I wanted and more, and recommend it and its 2 ½ predecessors to EVERYONE.. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Eternal Captive 5 Skulls and suggests that everyone go and pick up this book the instant it is released! If you haven't already taken the time to read Eternal Hunger, Eternal Kiss, and Eternal Blood you have a little time before Eternal Captive hits your mailbox or eReader. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Missing Daughter, Shattered Family

Missing Daughter, Shattered Family - David Lloyd Investigations Book #1 Author: Liz Strange Synopsis: When a brutal homophobic attack ended David Lloyd's career as a police officer, his life was changed forever. Five years later David is running his own private detective agency, where a missing person's case comes to his attention. Digging into the circumstances of her disappearance forces David to realize he has not dealt with what happened to him, and that he can no loner deal with his long-time partner's fear of being honest about their relationship. Solving the case might not only bring peace to a shattered family, but could finally put David's own demons to rest. Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I'm a big fan of Liz's work and was excited to read this as it's not her `usual', or what I've come to equate with her usual anyway. I was pleasantly surprised and am definitely looking forward to the next installment of this series - the lady can write a killer mystery! :) Missing Daughter, Shattered Family is not a super fast paced, majorly action packed read, but it's steady and gripping, & holds your interest the entire way through. It's perfectly layered and fabulously enjoyable. You build an affinity for the characters from the get-go, and their real-life struggles lead to the story and pull you in even more. The plot is deep and intriguing and keeps you guessing up until the very last where the true `bad guys' are thoroughly revealed. While this is definitely a mystery, there is some sweet and true to life romance between the hero and his partner. It is a m/m romance, but that should not dissuade anyone from reading it. Even if you think you wouldn't enjoy a m/m romance, as I said, the book is all about the mystery and the romance that is introduced just leads to the believability of the lead characters and their role in the solving of said mystery. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Missing Daughter, Shattered Family 4 Skulls and would recommend it to all Mystery aficionados. I'm really looking forward to book #2 of the series and can't wait to see what's in store for David & Jamie and the new friends they make along the way. If I were to sum up this book, it's a wonderfully written mystery with a ton of heart.

Dire Needs Eternal Wolf Clan 01
by
Stephanie Tyler
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I was excited for this book from the minute LITERAL ADDICTION hosted Stephanie to promote the last Sydney Croft ACRO novel and she announced that she was working on bringing it to life. When I finally received my Advance Reading Copy from Stephanie I set all other books aside and settled in, reminding myself that I needed to keep an open mind and judge based on what I was reading and feeling, and not what I had hyped it up to be. That wasn't difficult, seeing as Stephanie literally grabs hold of the reader 5 pages in and doesn't let go. The Eternal Wolf Clan is comprised of 6 sexy alpha males who are the last of their kind and who have been thrown into the battle of good vs. evil to save themselves, their distant cousins the Werewolves, and humankind from a group of overzealous humans known as the weretrappers. The trappers basically have a grudge against any `others', though their grudge has evolved into a nefarious plot to use the `others' before exterminating them. To make matters worse, they have conned a coven of powerful witches into helping them, and that is just making things harder for the Dires. This is Rifter and Gwen's story, but it's also a beautiful set up for the rest of the series and I can pretty much guarantee that readers will be picking their favorite Dire immediately upon meeting him in this first installment. Without breaking the flow, Stephanie gives great descriptions of each of the Dires and some of their backstory, making it almost impossible for the reader not to choose their own personal hunky wolf to champion. Rifter is a fabulous male lead - the leader of the Dires with the weight of the world on his shoulders and a melancholy that he can't shake just for the simple fact that he's felt so alone for so long. Gwen is a great female lead. She's smart, sassy, strong, and while looking for her prince charming, doesn't completely turn herself off when she finds him. The story was beautifully told; extraordinarily crafted, not only as a standalone book but as a set up for the rest of the series. The world that Stephanie has built for the Eternal Wolf Clan is unique and fresh, not something easily done in today's market of rampant shifter stories. The added twists of magic and the Dires' individual gifts add another layer of intrigue to the mix and there were just enough secrets left untold to keep the reader wanting more. I can't believe that I've finished book one of this long awaited treasure already. I want book 2 so badly now, it's not going to be pretty until the next release. I guess I'll just have to satisfy myself with spreading the word about Dire Needs and the Eternal Wolf Clan series so that everyone can read it, love it, and be in misery along with me while we wait for book 2. ;-) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Dire Needs 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone. It's a great read for Urban Fantasy buffs, Paranormal Romance lovers, fans of the strong sexy alpha male, lovers of magic and mayhem... it's a well rounded book for just about everyone. Kudos to Stephanie for giving us an amazing new shifter world to fall in love with.

Seal in Wolfs Clothing

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I've been following HEART OF THE WOLF since day one and have been hooked ever since. This book though, grabbed me immediately and I just couldn't put it down. SEAL in wolf's clothing revolves around Meara, a strong alpha in her own right, with an incredibly overprotective Navy SEAL older brother. Meara is looking for a mate, and takes the opportunity of her brother's honeymoon and subsequent absence to try and lure in her prospective match. She gets a bit more than she bargained for though, when her life is suddenly over-run by mysterious males... Hunter's friend and fellow SEAL, Finn, takes it upon himself to make sure that Meara is looked after in Hunter's absence. He takes his job as a SEAL very seriously and knows that ever since their botched mission some time back, things just aren't what they seem. However, while he wants it to only be a `job' and tries to stay all business, he just can't ignore the unshakeable attraction between he and Meara - despite how much they irritate each other at every turn. I adored the depth of character in this book. Meara's a tough cookie but we get to explore her vulnerabilities. Finn is alpha male to the core and straight up military, but while he denies it with every breath, he's also an incredible romantic. Hunter is the usual overprotective older brother who believes that nobody is good enough for his sister, but we get to see how much he really trusts and relies on his friends not only to watch his back, but to care for those he loves as well. And then there are the allies and villains of the story... SO many surprises and nothing I can reveal without spoilers! :) The chemistry between all of the characters in this installment was beyond thrilling, especially with the explosive romance brewing between Finn & Meara throughout the book. SEAL in Wolf's Clothing was hands down a sexy, action-packed thrill ride of epic proportions and utterly satisfying. I would recommend it to all Paranormal Romance and shifter fans and would even suggest that those who like Romantic Suspense with military undertones pick up these books. They're fantastic! LITERAL ADDICTION gives SEAL in Wolf's Clothing 5 Skulls.

Harlequin Nocturne #133: The Werewolf's Wife
by
Michele Hauf

, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: O.K yeah, it's no secret that I love Michele Hauf and gush about pretty much everything she's written, but this book really does deserve it. While not my personal favorite of Michele's thus far, it was an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable read. Our hero, Ridge Addison, is like the Brawny papertowel guy (including the softer side) with Jason Statham's sexy action hero streak. If that isn't enough to get you to love him right there, then throw in some real to life insecurities, some hardships, and the fact that he's an Alpha willing to fight for what's his, and you have a sigh-worthy leading male that you'll follow just about anywhere. Our heroine, Abigail, is a little hard to love at first admittedly. To sum it up, Ridge calls her the "Baddest Witch in the Midwest" and she sort of lives up to that name. She has some incredible layers herself, however, and once each of those is peeled away throughout the story and you get to see what makes her tick you can't help but start to love her. I loved her immediately because she's a tough leading lady, and that's one thing that I search for in my Paranormal Romance. No wimpy heroines for this reader! Abigail is that in spades, but she also has her reasons for her walls... Together, they are a dynamic duo that tug at your emotions because you're just not sure they're right for one another. They each have their own lives - hopes and dreams, and it's not a forgone conclusion that being together will bring them the HEA that you want them both to have. The way Michele spins her tale however has you cheering for them despite (or in spite of!?) the potential hurdles, and left me cheering at the final outcome. The Werewolf's Wife was another incredible release from Michele Hauf, and I would recommend it to ALL Michele Hauf fans, Paranormal Romance readers, fans of witches and werewolves, and anyone who likes their romance with some conflict (no love triangles or anything of that sort, just real life (and some preternatural) hurdles to overcome. LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Werewolf's Wife 4 Skulls and cannot wait for whatever Michele has in store for us next!!

Deadly Is the Kiss
by
Rhyannon Byrd
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: Primal Instinct is one of my favorite series, but this spin-off installment was by far my favorite book yet. I've been a fan of the Granger brothers all along and there's just something about Ashe that set my heart a pitter pat, so when I heard that Deadly is the Kiss was his book I was beyond excited. After reading the captivating conclusions to Rush of Darkness and Rush of Pleasure, I knew we were in for something special with Ashe and Juliana's book was released. Boy was that an understatement. Deadly is the Kiss throws Ashe and Juliana together under unusual circumstances and forces them to confront the undeniable attraction they have had for one another since they met back in the Wasteland. With danger lurking around every corner the story is a non-stop adrenaline rush and keeps the characters (and the reader) on alert and hypersensitive, which makes for some amazing moments. Ashe is everything you want in an alpha male - gorgeous, strong, deadly, protective, stubborn, and take no prisoners. He can be intimidating, and I wanted to smack him a few times for so vehemently denying his feelings for Juliana and then turning around and using them (and her obvious attraction to him) to taunt or blackmail her, but all of it together made him what I always knew he was but found out in spades in this book... SEXY AS SIN. Juliana was a great heroine - smart, funny & resourceful. I loved uncovering her insecurities in this book as well as it made her even more `real' to me. Together, they are dynamite. There was no instant perfect chemistry and things that `just worked', they went through a lot to get where they ended up and it was a ride that I never wanted to end. As usual, Rhyannon's world building was superb. Her Primal Instinct world has always been ingenious, but there was something about the set up of this book and the additional treasures she provided for us readers. I was captivated throughout. It excites me to think that there may be additional books following Deadly is the Kiss (hopefully Gideon's and a few others!?) that are set up like this one was with bucket loads of intrigue, romance, action, intensity and so much more. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Deadly is the Kiss 5 Skulls and would give it more if there were more to give. I whole heartedly recommend this to all Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Vampire, Shifter and all around Fantasy readers who want a grab you by the seat and not let go read. While this book can be read as a stand alone I would highly recommend reading the books in the Primal Instinct series beforehand to get the history and get properly introduced to Ashe in all of his glory. I cannot wait for more from Rhyannon Byrd and while I know that it will be a bit before I get another of these books, I know that I have her BloodRunner's series installment to look forward to and I am very excited for that.

Darkest Seduction
by
Gena Showalter
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: The Darkest Seduction is the ninth installment of the LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series and for me personally, was one I have been waiting 8 books for. I was so worried that my anticipation would cloud my judgment of the story but I should have never worried. The series continues to get better and better with each new release and Gena never disappoints. The first thing I want to say about this book is that I felt that Gena grew as a writer even from just the last installment if that's possible. I noticed the changes immediately after starting the book and I felt so proud for her. I don't know if it's because Paris spoke through her with such clarity or what, but it was beautifully written in all regards. Paris, possessed by the demon of Promiscuity, or "Sex" as he calls him, is incredibly tortured. He's gone through so much and is in a constant state of guilt because he's been forced by his demon to hurt those he loves. When he meets Sienna (in "The Darkest Passion") he thinks he might finally have a chance at true happiness, but things aren't always as they appear and you can't always get what you want. Losing his chance at Sienna kind of made him crazy and as the series continues after "The Darkest Passion" you see Paris becoming darker and darker and even more tortured. "The Darkest Seduction" starts out with a true display of that darkness within Paris as he fights his way to try and find and save Sienna's soul in the heavens where she's being kept captive by Cronus after being cursed with the demon of Wrath. He does so much to find and free her and you can't help but cheer him on the entire way and feel sorry for everything that he goes through at the same time. When Sienna finally gets her chance to explain to Paris that she didn't mean what she said to him the last time they saw one another it's incredibly touching and watching their relationship blossom as the story continues despite every obstacle thrown in their path is incredible. While this is Paris and Sienna's book, SO much more happens. There are major side stories for Kane, Galen, Legion, Ashlyn and her twins, William and his daddy Hades, and some new Lords who we had not yet met, such as the keepers of Narcissism, Obsession, Indifference and Selfishness, which help to make this book, in my honest opinion, the best LOTU yet. To say that "The Darkest Seduction" is the pinnacle book of the series thus far would almost be an understatement. It is jam packed with goodness at every turn and I devoured all 504 pages in 1 sitting. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Darkest Seduction a well deserved 5 Skulls. ALL Gena Showalter fans need to read this book, and we'd recommend it to all Paranormal Romance addicts and even Urban Fantasy readers as well because there is plenty of darkness and to keep those readers happy. I love Gena Showalter and the Lords of the Underworld! I cannot wait for the next book.

Nightborn: Lords of the Darkyn

Lynn Viehl

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I have thoroughly enjoyed Lynn Viehls Darkyn and Kyndrd series. In this 2nd spinoff to the Darkyn series, Lords of the Darkyn, she hits another homerun with some old and new characters and thoroughly engaging plotline. Korvel, seneschal for high lord Richard, is sent on a quest to find an artifact used and hidden by his kyn back in the Templar days. He meets up with Simone, a pseudo-nun with an interesting past and an even more interesting secret. Their journey to find the scroll is action packed and thrilling. Their chemistry is amazing, and despite the hardships they encounter they make a wicked team and bring things to a satisfying conclusion. I was ecstatic to finally see a happily ever after for my beloved Korvel (he's been the underdog that I've been cheering on for 2 series now) and having 2 of my sassy kyndred turned kyn heroines - Alexandra and Nicola - back was an amazing treat. It was also very interesting to see a little bit deeper into the relationship between Nicola and Gabriel. There's has probably been the rockiest of them all, but they're also a couple that you want the best for. I'm really excited to see where the Lords of the Darkyn series goes. I loved the way it started and I'm looking forward to book #2. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Nightborn 4 Skulls, and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers. While you don't have to read the Darkyn and/or Kyndred series before reading this book, I would suggest that you do. There's SO much history there and this book will be way more enjoyable with that knowledge locked away. All 3 series have been incredible and they're definitely worth the time and money.

Perfect Blood Rachel Morgan 10

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: This continues to be one of the UF series that I remain fiercely loyal to (reading new releases right away after release day) & it never disappoints! I adore these characters & feel like we've grown together. Like Dark Days, it will be very sad when it ends, but it'll have been an amazing ride getting there. Originally White Witch, Black Curse was my fave of the series, replaced by Pale Demon, now replaced by A Perfect Blood... Rachel has really grown as a character, but geez, she just can't keep herself out of trouble! It was really nice to see her embrace her true nature and everything that entails though, and I find that I'm oddly liking the strange direction things are going in with her and Trent. Who woulda thunk it! And yes, as I'm sure was intended, there is just something strangely loveable about the nasty Brit poseur demon Al. What can I say, I like bad boys. LOL. Jenks remains one of the best UF sidekicks out there and Ivy held her own this one as well showing a maturity of balance between Rachel and her private life and Rachel and their business partnership. This series continues to get better and better and I'm counting down the days to the release of book #11. Way to go Kim, another fabulous read!! LITERAL ADDICTION gives A Perfect Blood 5 Skulls.

Enraptured Eternal Guardians 04
by
Elisabeth Naughton
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I have one word for this installment of the ETERNAL GUARDIAN series... WOW! Given the thrilling conclusion to Tempted, I figured that this book would be chock full of goodness. It was that, and then some! The fabulous Ms. Naughton gifted me with an Advanced Reading Copy of Enraptured and while I did a little happy dance when it first arrived in the mail, it was absolutely nothing compared to the excited verbal outbursts I experienced throughout the read. ' Orpheus is an absolutely incredible hero. He's dealing with his own demons (or daemons as the case may be), skeletons in his closet, and an all encompassing guilt regarding his brother Gryphon's plight. He has a single minded purpose and sets out to accomplish his goals only to be railroaded and turned inside out and upside down by a sexy Siren with eyes the color of amethysts. Skyla is Zeus's longest tenured Siren. She should have left the fold eons ago but didn't. Recovering from a mission gone wrong, she starts out in Enraptured trying to prove something - to both herself and her superiors. Little does she know that she's about to cross paths with the one man that will make her scatter brained, and he just happens to be her mark. Thrown together in a case of `the enemy of my enemy is my friend', Skyla and Orpheus embark on a thrilling journey with a demigoddess as their charge, each with their own agendas but with a common lust for reaching their end goal, and as it turns out, one another. They also discover things about one another that make for even more tension, heightened desire, captivating dialogue and a twist to the story that is as unique as it is thrilling. These two as a couple are hot as hell! Yowza. Both stubborn as all get out, the banter between them was enough to keep the reader riveted, but add in the undeniable attraction between the two of them and you end up with scenes that raised the temperature of the room several degrees and warranted a re-read because they were just THAT good. In standard Naughton fashion, the world building was a beautifully woven tapestry with descriptions that drew the reader in and made you feel like you were actually a part of the story. Couple that with not only the fabulous leading duo but appearances by just about all of the cast that we've come to know and love in the ETERNAL GUARDIAN world, and this was one book that I couldn't put down but that ended much too quickly. It is my personal opinion that Elisabeth has grown and outdone herself with each new installment of the ETERNAL GUARDIANS series, but Enraptured was an absolutely phenomenal read and as I said at the start of this review, the best word for it is just "wow". Enraptured is the perfect title for this book because that's exactly how I felt after reading it - totally and completely enraptured. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Enraptured a highly deserved 5 Skulls and recommends it to everyone; Elisabeth and her sexy Argonauts should not be missed!

Savage Awakening Alpha Pack 02

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: I thoroughly enjoyed Primal Law and was incredibly excited for the release of Savage Awakening. The day it arrived on my Kindle I settled in for the ride... Save Awakening picks up where Primal Law left off, with Aric Savage kidnapped and held hostage by Orson Chappell and the NewLife mad scientists along with another missing team member, Micah Chase, who disappeared and was originally presumed dead six months earlier. Micah's sister Rowan, an officer with the LAPD, continues to search for her brother believing in her heart that if he were dead, she'd know. When she gets a tip about a hidden facility in the Shoshone that may lead to news of her brother she heads out for answers. What she encounters is more than she ever bargained for, however. Thrown into a whole new world full of things she only thought were nightmares, but knowing that seeing is believing, Rowan joins the Alpha Pack to find and rescue not only her brother but their missing Pack brother, Aric. When a lead finally pans out and they rescue Aric and Micah, the true adventures begin... Aric is damaged in Savage Awakening. Not only physically, but mentally as well - torn between hating Jaxon for his part in his ultimate kidnapping and torture and his own actions prior to that which led to the Event and the traumatic experiences beforehand. The snarky red wolf that we came to know and love in Primal Law is back, though he's continually finding himself hiding behind his snark as a coping mechanism, and when yet another twist is thrown into his mix in the form of a mate he never thought he'd meet, he almost takes the easy way out. Arik has a huge heart and high insecurities and they get him into major trouble. He makes poor decisions thinking that it's the best for everyone, when in reality; it's not good for anyone. Rowan is Aric's perfect counterpart. She's tough and witty like he is, but she also has a huge heart and puts everyone before herself; even when it puts her own hide in danger. Aric and Rowan's story is somewhat predictable, following very closely the exact path that Jax took with Kira in Primal Law, but it's still very enjoyable and the rest of the story in Savage Awakening is gripping. Kalen's story unfolds further, as it's revealed who the `Big Bad' is that is after him. We learn more about the mysterious Hammer, a secret is revealed about A.J, and Nick is yet again tortured by his prescient visions and his inability to interfere with fate. Sariel plays a large part in Savage Awakening as well and while I already loved him in Primal Law, I adore him now and cannot wait to find out more about him and have him get more and more involved with the Alpha Pack and their mates. LITERAL ADDICTION gives this book 4 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone who loved Primal Law and Black Magic, as well as Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Magick and Shifter lovers far and wide. Savage Awakening isn't as fast paced, action packed and chock-full of `stuff' as Primal Law was, but it's a captivating and enjoyable read and a nice addition to the series. Bring on Kalen's book J.D! After the ending of Savage Awakening and the events that took place in Black Magic, I CANNOT wait to find out how you deal with all of the drama. I am beyond excited! :)

Wolf Hills

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I'm a huge Bianca D'Arc fan. I've followed every series that she has written and am always excited when I find out that there will be a new release. Brotherhood of Blood was the 2nd series of Bianca's that I discovered, so when I heard about the release of Wolf Hills I was ecstatic. The first thing that struck me about this book were the amazing characters. You have a strong, independent, willful heroine, a hunky alpha male hero and the perfect supporting cast. Sally is a detective on vacation visiting one of her best friends who just happens to be the Mistress of the area - the local master vampire's wife. Jason is the Alpha of the local pack and the minute he lays eyes on Sally he knows that they're meant to be. Despite warnings from Sally's best friend Carly and her master vampire husband, Sally can't ignore the attraction between she and Jason either. When hunters start targeting the pack's young, Sally and Jason are thrown together to try and track down the hunters and the kidnapped kids and get justice. As nature takes its course, sparks fly, adrenaline packed action ensues, and each of them learns things about themselves as well as each other. The world of Wolf Hills was beautifully built, diverse, and captivating. The storyline was action packed and thrilling, yet full of `tug-at-your-heartstrings' romantic moments and intrigue; which is the perfect combination to make you not want to put the book down, and in my personal opinion, the recipe for a phenomenal paranormal romance. Like the reading warning states: There were bombs, bullets, bare knuckled fights, bare-naked lust, and some serious booty kicking, and I did not want it to end! After completion of the last page all I could say was "I WANT MORE!". LITERAL ADDICTION gives Wolf Hills 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone. The entire Brotherhood of Blood series (and the rest of Bianca's Backlist) is fabulous, but this book is amazing and is a wonderful installment to Bianca's library of literary excellence.

Demonically Tempted

Our Review [By LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha Michelle L. Olson]: If you peek back at my review for Supernaturally Kissed (FROSTBITE Book #1) you'll see how much I loved it. The follow-up did not disappoint. It's another knock out hit by Miss Kennedy! I had a theory from the beginning of Supernaturally Kissed and I was glad to see that I was right. The storyline played itself out in the most delicious way at the end of Demonically Tempted, and it had me verbalizing my delight. I can't go into details though because I don't want to ruin it for anyone. Tess is just beginning her new life as the newest member of the Memphis PD. In this installment, things get shaken up (and her confidences are tested) when the Cold Case they're investigating isn't coughing up any ghosts for Tess to interview and/or help. To make matters worse, while trying to help her with her gifts, the department brings in a medium who does little but irritate Tess and make her doubt herself and her relationship with Kipp even more. Demonically Tempted has a bit more 'magic and mayhem' than Supernaturally Kissed did, and that was just fine by me. I loved every second of it, and devoured the book in 1 sitting, wishing only that there were more to be had. There were some interesting character developments in Demonically Tempted as well. We got to see a more vulnerable side to the normally cocky and confident Kipp, and an insecure side to Tess that wasn't really there in Supernaturally Kissed where it was very evident that she didn't care what anyone thought when all was said and done. In true Stacey Kennedy fashion the romance was hot and steamy, even if it was just 'ghost sex'. Maybe that made it even more hot and steamy!?? The storyline as a whole was fabulous. There were twists and turns, hurdles to overcome, beautifully placed antagonists, and even a few unlikely allies in places. I simply adore this series and cannot wait to see what Stacey has in store for us in the next installment!

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson]: Immediately upon completion of this book I had one word: "wow". I laughed, I cried, I ranted, I raved, I gasped, I oohed & awwed... I was on a non-stop emotional roller coaster & I loved every second of it! Like most Paranormal Romance readers I'm a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I have had my favorite books and I've picked my favorite brothers. I've wished for outcomes that didn't happen and have greedily devoured not only the highly anticipated new releases but those that I felt were necessary to the series but not 'foundation reads' in my opinion as well. This book was hard to even compartmentalize like that because it was so robust. With an interestingly intersecting past and equally tragic histories, No'One and Tohr are an interesting couple. There were times that I wanted to smack Tohr for being so hard on No'One, and there were times were I wanted to scream at No'One to buck up and fight for what she wanted. In the end I couldn't have imagined a better couple, but it certainly wasn't a Happily Ever After that came easy. As I said above, this was - in my honest opinion - the most robust book of the series thus far and the most emotionally captivating read yet. It's very difficult to write a review for it though because while an incredible amount of things happened, I can't tell you about any of them without spoiling it for new readers. Suffice it to say that this book will grab you from the 1st page and take you on a journey so incredible you'll feel completely wrung out by the end. While one of the longest of the series thus far, it's worth every word and every page. The way the book ended makes me as a diehard BDB fan want the next book that much more, and JR made us all very happy by announcing that the next book will finally be Quinn and Blay's story. I easily give this book 4 1/2 skulls and would recommend it to everyone. Though if you haven't read the rest of the Black Dagger Brotherhood yet, you'll want to start from book #1.

Covet and Crave: Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series
by
Felicity Heaton
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Debbie, a LITERAL ADDICTION Associate Guest Reviewer]: So when I asked for a recommendation for a very steamy book with a good plot Michelle Our Pack Alpha told me about Felicity Heaton's new Vampire Erotic Theatre series. After finding out that she needed a review for these 1st 2 books I agreed knowing that Michelle has some strange Alpha Power that allows her to ALWAYS know exactly what we all want to read at the time, even if we don't. She was right, as always! I loved them. I couldn't believe how enthralled I was while reading Covet. My heart was racing and I was probably panting along with the characters and I couldn't do anything about it but read! Covet is novella about Javier and Lilah and their forbidden but undeniable attraction to each other. Javier has dreamed and fantasized about her for 2 years but being that she is owned by a very powerful vampire of his club he has kept his feeling to himself. He thinks his attraction is totally one sided and really beats himself up for feeling the way he does. There was one rule his kind honored above all others: an owned human must never be touched by a vampire other than their master Lilah has desired Javier since she was sent to Vampirerotique by her Master, Lord Ashville. To say that she is confused by how she feels and her life is an understatement. She isn't like the other owned humans and she hates her Master. She has tried to run many times before he finally sent her to the theater. She is tough and a survivor but doesn't think Javier sees her as anything special. Once they come together it is explosive. They both have such amazing feelings for one another that the emotion bleeds from the page. Both of them are willing to give anything for the other even their lives. The erotic scenes' both on the stage and between Javier and Lilah left me feeling like I should be laying in bed with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other and tears in my eyes. The action in this book is intense. It is 100% VAMPIRE. There is blood, blood and more blood. Sometimes when I am reading a novella I notice that the author has toned down the sex and violence. That is not the case in this book. After reading Crave, the next book in the series I can say that this book is a great opener and shows you what to expect in the rest of the series. Felicity Heaton grabbed my attention with this book and I was excited that I had the next book, Crave already and able to read now. I am not sure whose book I am looking forward to more Snow or Antoine. Snow I want him to get his own HEA so bad and Antoine... well, I just can't wait to see him fall after all the attitude. If you are looking for a quick erotic paranormal with enough heat to keep you warm in a blizzard then check this one out. LITERAL ADDICTION'S Associate Reviewer gives Covet 4 Skulls and would recommend it to erotic and paranormal romance fans far and wide.

Black Dawn

Rachel Caine

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I love the Morganville Vampires series and have been an avid follower since book #1. While I didn't think that anything could surpass the incredibleness that was Book #11, Last Breath, I stand corrected after the completion of Black Dawn. If I said that Last Breath was a home run, then Black Dawn was a grand slam! Like all Morganville books, there was tons of action, danger lurking around every corner, sweet romance, problems to be solved, friendships solidified, alliances forged, enemies made and mysteries galore, all packed into a fabulously eerie and quirky package. Like Last Breath, Black Dawn gives us insight into other characters by switching between points of view. It was seamlessly written and a wonderful gift for the reader to get inside these other characters' heads. Last Breath was definitely darker than the other Morganville books. They've been getting increasingly darker installment after installment (to my utter delight), but there were times during Black Dawn that you could actually feel the hopelessness, and those times just lent more credibility to the glimpses of hope that were uncovered like rays of sunshine. While Morganville is known for its danger, and we fans have come to expect and love the town and its residents for it, the Morganville in Black Dawn is literally flooded with death, destruction and despair. All that deranged action is thrown at you in a non-stop thrill ride that grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't' really ever let go, because even after completion of the last page, you want to scream, "Well, what now??". The character development in Black Dawn was intense, the storyline intriguing and demanding nothing short of utter investment, and the world, in true Rachel Caine fashion, beautifully fashioned. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Black Dawn a thoroughly deserved 5 Skulls, and would recommend it to EVERYONE! Morganville may be classified as YA, but we like to call it YA for the not-so-young-adult, and this installment proved that Rachel can capture both sides of the audience with ease. I am so happy that there will be more Morganville to come. I absolutely adore this series.

Our Review [By LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha-Michelle L Olson]: Once again, Caridad Pineiro does not disappoint. I enjoyed this book even better than book #1, The Lost, and cannot wait for the next installment. Those of you that read my review for The Lost may know that I wasn't so sure about this series, despite begin a huge Caridad fan, but I am so happy that I put my apprehensions aside and jumped in. Like book #1, this was a 2 sitting wonder, and only because I was forced to put it down. As I mentioned, I thought it was even better than the first book, and I absolutely adored the characters. Christopher is a Shadow trying to walk the straight and narrow, even though is father is diabolical, and the Light Hunters were groomed to hate all Shadows. With his best friend and cadre captain Ryan by his side, he tries to get his tribe back in order and revert back to the ancient ways to combat the plague that has been haunting them for ages. Victoria is a Light Hunter in line to take over the ocean tribe, and living the life of a virtual human. With her best friends around her, she has a charmed life, but it's missing one thing... love. When the two meet, sparks fly (literally) and they can't deny their unbelievable attraction. But does the whole 'Romeo and Juliet' thing ever end up being more than a tragedy? In their case, and with a lot of hard work, convinction and support... Yes. :) This series continues to be an emotional roller-coaster full of excitement, regret, love, passion, uncertainty, betrayal, retribution, and so much more! In true Caridad Pineiro fashion it was incredibly written, with vivid imagery and strong, well developed characters. The book was an incredible installment to the series and it just makes readers want book #3 all that much more. In a nutshell, LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives The Claimed 5 Skulls, and would recommend it to Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and even some Sci-Fi readers.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: The SONS OF DESTINY series is one of my favorites, so it stands to reason that the spin-off, SHIFTING PLAINS, would be high on the anticipated list... Jean Johnson has not disappointed, and book #2 was even better than book #1 in my humble opinion. This series is a complex fantasy world full of robust characters and intricate plots. The Shifter focuses on a native of the Shifting Plains visiting a neighboring land to uncover a nefarious plot that some rogues have set in motion. The hero of the story is complex and wonderful, having to play 2 parts, and his relationship with the heroine is sweet and rich. The heroine is spunky and fun, if a bit naive. She's smart though, and they make a wonderful leading pair. The antagonists of the story are despicable and the kind that you love to hate. Jean writes them perfectly and they were the perfect black to the good guys' white. All in all, LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Shifter 4 stars and would recommend it to all Jean Johnson fans and fantasy lovers.

Whisper Cape

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION'S Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I was contacted by a troupe that I work with to do a promotional Event for Regan Walsh in July. I had never heard of her before, nor had I heard about Whisper Cape. Trying to be the good book website admin and book promoter, I went out and bought the book on Amazon and when a gap opened in my schedule, decided to sit down and read it. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! In my honest opinion, this was one of the best new Urban Fantasy books I have read in the last year or so, and I've been doing A LOT of reading for review. I don't know if it just caught me in the right mood for this type of read or what (since I'm seeing a bit of mixed feelings from reviewers), but I personally thought it was fantastic and immediately recommended it to all 1,700+ of my Literal Addicts. :) The premise is fresh, the characters relatable, the plot intense, the romance steamy... what more could you want? Cael, the hunky hero of our story (and yes, I'm not afraid to admit I have a serious reader crush on Cael!), returns to Whisper Cape on a job for the secret society he's employed to. Upon his arrival, he runs into our fiesty heroine Addie and nothing is ever the same. Addie has just returned to Whisper Cape after losing her father, and is living out a comfortable yet slightly boring life with her aunt and pseudo-uncle (her aunt's live-in boyfriend). The dynamics between Cael and Addie throughout the story will have you laughing, on the verge of tears, frustrated, elated, and a plethora of other emotions in-between. The plot is intense, mysterious, dark where it needs to be, light in others and thoroughly engrossing. Believe me, if you're a paranormal suspense lover like I am and think you are the best at figuring out 'whodoneit'... you're probably going to be wrong in this one. I thought I had it figured out at least twice and upon completion of the book, still went "huh". :) After flipping the last page I was elated that I had found such an amazing read, but saddened that I thought it was a single title and there would be no more. I was VERY happy today to find that there IS another WHISPER CAPE book planned for November, called "Reflections", and it will immediately go on my Pre-Order list. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Whisper Cape a well earned 5 Skulls and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Suspense, and even Romantic Suspense lovers. Regan, major kudos!!

Embrace of the Damned Brotherhood of the Damned 01

Anya Bast

Our Review, by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION'S Pack Alpha: The premier book of Anya's new series was a hit! Our hero, Broder Calderson, is a a dark, brooding, charming, sexy, faithful immortal 'owned' by the trickster God Loki and sentenced to fight the Blight for all time. As an added sentence, his ability to be with a woman was taken away for 1,000 years to ensure that he fulfilled his duties to the Brotherhood of the Damned. Our heroine, Jessamine Hamilton is a feisty, independent gal with an interesting history and a soul deep desire to find love. When Broder and Jessa meet up, fireworks are the result. Appointing himself Jessa's guardian, Broder steals her away to keep her safe and help her learn more about her heritage, though there are plenty of hurdles thrown in their path throughout the journey. The heat between Broder and Jessa was intense and fabulous. Along with the action, mythology, and suspense, this was a book that I devoured in just a few sittings. As we've come to expect from Ms. Bast, the world and premise were beautifully built and delivered. Her new literary land will enthrall and hook readers both new and old. LITERAL ADDICTION gives "Embrace of the Damned" 4 Skulls and recommends it for all Anya Bast fans, paranormal romance readers, Viking and Mythology lovers, and Urban Fantasy lovers far and wide. Take a trip with Anya's Brotherhood of the Damned... you won't be disappointed!

The Thirteenth Sacrifice

, October 05, 2012
Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]: I was sent this book by the publisher to review. When it arrived in the mail unexpected I wasn't sure what to think until I read the synopsis on the back cover and was immediately interested. I actually even bumped it up in my To Be Read queue (which is very unlike me) and settled in on a Saturday afternoon to see what it was all about. In one sitting I had devoured the 368 pages and wanted more. I was very glad I had taken a chance and went against my normal processes to read it. It was an incredible story, and for a reader like me who thoroughly enjoys and seeks out meshing of sub-genres, this was truly an incredible find! Samantha is an amazing character. She's a strong, sassy, reinvented woman with a past she's trying hard to forget and a promising path to the future. When a serial killer goes on a rampage, as a Boston police officer, Samantha is naturally called in to investigate. When she discovers that there's a definite pattern to the killings, and recognizes the symbol that's been carved into the victims' necks, she knows that she needs to stop the people responsible no matter the fall out. After struggling with the decision and deciding that she needs to `take one for the team' so to speak and do what's best for the greater good, she comes clean on a secret that she's kept from almost everyone she currently associates with (and pays for it dearly in some cases) and embarks on a dangerous journey with the attitude - May the best witch win. Returning to Salem, her city of birth and the city that houses so many terrible childhood memories for her - several of which were so awful her mind repressed them as a coping mechanism - she reinvents herself yet again to be the adult product of the girl she was back then and begins her lie to try and draw out the bad guys (the bad guys being a new evil coven of witches who are dabbling in the darkest of the black arts and using Samantha's previous family and coven as their stepping stone). While there, she meets Anthony. Anthony is a young man running an Occult Museum and driven by the need to get vengeance on those who murdered his mother and avenge her death. He and Samantha have instant chemistry, but seeing as she is exactly what he has sworn to hate and destroy, and he is a constant reminder of everything she wants to forget, it's definitely not a match made in heaven. Regardless, and despite the conflicts the two of them encounter along the way, they find a way to work together to try and bring down this rogue coven of evil witches and stop the murders. One of the things that appealed to me most about this book was that it wasn't easy to classify. It's a murder mystery with urban fantasy, horror-thriller, and even a few paranormal romance aspects and that's precisely why I fell in love with it. It was dark and dangerous and incredibly thrilling with tons of action, more intrigue than I knew what to do with, surprises around every corner, and psychological and theological undertones that made me as a reader think, which just immersed me into the story even further. The Thirteenth Sacrifice was exactly my type of book and I am so incredibly happy that the Publisher decided to mail me a copy. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the Witch Hunt series and I'm excited to check out more of Debbie's work to see if the rest of her backlist is anything like this. If it is, I may have just found myself a new author to add to my list of favorites. As it stands, I definitely found a book to add to my "Best New Book Discoveries of the Year" list. LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Thirteenth Sacrifice 5 Skulls and would recommend it to Dark Urban Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Horror-Thriller, and even Murder-Mystery lovers if you don't mind a bit of paranormal thrown in to your whoedoneit story. This is definitely a book to check out!

Chase Me

Tamara Hogan
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle Olson: "Chase Me", UNDERBELLY CHRONICLES book #2, was another well written and enjoyable read by Ms. Hogan. In my personal opinion, it wasn't quite as good as book 1, "Taste Me" (though that one had a music undertone mixed in with all of the parnormal, so it is kind of hard to beat for me). The world is still great though, I still love the characters, & the romance is, as expected, still steamy - even when the hero isn't an incubus. :) Our hero, Gabe, is multi-dimensional. A go-getter Werewolf with a disability trying to make a name for himself in the corporate world at a young age. Because of the persona he projects to do so however, nobody guesses that he's got a passion font that runs deep and is as sexy and alpha as any other male out there. Our heroine, Lorin, is a smart, sassy, spunky, strong-willed, impulsive Valkyrie with a love for archaology and many, many needs. The two of them together may sound like the ultimate odd couple, but that's what makes their relationship so incredibly fascinating. They don't want to want one another but... boy they do. And circumstances demand that they give in to those desires. When they do, the heat burns up the page. As with the first UNDERBELLY CHRONICLES book, the world and supporting cast were magnificent. Tamara's spin on the origins of the preternatural races is fresh, exciting and utterly captivating. The Council, made up of a 1st and 2nd chair from each of the races, is fiery and makes for great tension within the read. The return of some of our favorites from book #1 was wonderful as well. I hadn't realized how much I missed them until I was immersed back in their world. Like I mentioned above, overall, I didn't love the plot as much as I did the one in "Taste Me", but those with a love for history and archaology and business will probably over-rule me on that point and say it was actually even better than the first one. All in all Tamara Hogan is a fabulous author and I absolutely love the Urban Fantasy world that she has created for all of us to enjoy. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of book #3 to see who we get to learn more about next and what happens within the races in their search for the ultimate truth of whence they came. LITERAL ADDICTION gives "Chase Me", 4 Skulls.

The Taken
by
Vicki Pettersson
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher in preparation for an Event that LITERAL ADDICTION was doing with Vicki in mid-June 2012. I'm a fan of Ms. Pettersson's, and seeing that this was the first in a new series I was seriously intrigued. Not to mention that the blurb was original and that peaked my interests even more. In preparation of the read I did a little research and saw that the pre-release reader reviews were quite low rated. While I didn't let that impact my decision to start the book or my thoughts, it was always in the back of my mind. After finishing, I have to say that I'm very shocked at the low reviews. I REALLY enjoyed it! It was a heart pumping mystery with intense action, old fashioned romance, and just enough of the preternatural to keep it in my 'usually preferred' genre, and while it's a long book, I read it in 3 sittings. I adore Grif. Maybe because I've always been an absolute sucker for the dicks & gumshoes of the past - the Humphrey Bogarts and Dick Tracys of the world. Those smart, sexy, intense, standoffish, sleuthy men who could solve a crime by finding a book of matches. Those that while maybe not classically handsome could still make your heart swoon with just their smarts, a cock-eyed fedora and a trenchcoat. *sigh* Grif is all that and a bag of chips! LOL. He's uber sexy, tortured, haunted, smart (and smart-a**), plus... he's an angel (literally). Kit is an amazing heroine as well. She takes on the world with a smile, all the while staying true to herself despite what others think. She's also strong, smart, and compassionate and an incredible investigative journalist (a profession I thoroughly enjoy in my fiction). Together, these two are the ultimate pair, yet their relationship is tragically flawed and utterly doomed from the start. It made you cheer them on and wish for the best even more, and made my heart swell anytime anything did go their way breaking through Grif's ice and bringing one of those wide smiles to Kit's face. I loved the book and I'm really looking forward to the sequel! I have to say that while I enjoyed the action, mystery and romance, my favorite part of the book was the underlying message - that life is meant to be lived, enjoyed one day at a time to its fullest, and that death shouldn't be feared, because dying means you were once truly alive. LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Taken 4 Skulls and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy and Mystery lovers, especially those with a penchant for vintage PI and Detective work.

Wicked Nights Angels of the Dark 01

Gena Showalter

, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by Michelle L. Olson, LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha: I am a huge fan of Gena's. Her books are always on auto-buy for me, and getting an ARC of Wicked Nights was a real treat. Wicked Nights is the first installment of the ANGELS OF THE DARK series, a LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD spinoff. Our hero, Zacharel, is a warrior angel and commander to a group of misfit angels that the Deity is punishing for their `devil may care' attitude toward humanity. They're sent on some pretty intense missions against demons and taught harsh lessons when they don't show care towards the humans they're supposed to be protecting. Mr cool and collected suddenly finds himself confronted with a woman who just might turn his world on its ear and break some of the ice he keeps around his heart. Annabelle is a tortured heroine. She's spent a large chunk of her life in an asylum after a demon brutally murdered her parents in front of her, but because nobody believed her, she was accused of the crime herself. Taken advantage of at every turn and rejected by those tasked with taking care of her and her family she's becomed hardened but is thrown into a world of feeling when she meets Zacharel and his flock. The two together are magnetic. Zacharel is an angel who has never felt much of any emotion, let alone desire. When he meets strong willed Annabelle and is faced with her instense survival instinct, he can't help but warm to her. Not to mention the passion that is undeniable between the two. LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD fans will rejoice in a cameo by our favorite demon infected alpha males and a few of their feisty females, and have no fear... while this series doesn't have the light moments that LOTU has (at least not yet), you will still get your sexy alpha males, strong females, steamy romance, and all of the intrigue we've come to expect and love from Gena. You'll also encounter a multitude of other secondary characters that you will want to know more about instantly, which is brilliant for a serial author, because it just makes us want the next installment that much more. The world is dark, engaging, open for intense growth, and steeped in deep philosophical undertones that I found utterly fascinating. LITERAL ADDICTION gives "Wicked Nights" 4 ½ Skulls. I can't wait to see which angel we'll learn more about next. There's a trio that I'm dying to delve into pronto. ;-)

Once Burned A Night Prince Novel
by
Jeaniene Frost
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I've been a Jeaniene Frost, Night Huntress fan since day #1. I love Cat & Bones, and have a soft spot for Spade, but I have been in love with Vlad since he was first introduced in the series and would anxiously await any parts in the novels where he would be called in for one reason or another. That all being said, I was anxiously awaiting this book and actually feared I may have been expecting too much since I was so excited for it. I needn't have feared, Jeaniene delivered and then some! Once Burned gives us Vlad (THE man that ALL of the Dracula myths were based upon) in all his sexy, cocky, powerful, undead glory, and introduces a loveable, relate-able heroine and some villains that you will absolutely love to hate. Leila is human, but with some 'extras'. She is able to conduct electricity through her body, and is psychometric. In attempting to deal with her 'additions', she's sequestered herself in a small town with a family of traveling carnies and is working as a trapeze artist. After being snatched up by some bad guys, she's thrown into a world that she knew existed, but never thought to be immersed in, and finds herself directly linked to a powerful vampire who's apparently #1 on everyone's hit list. Vlad, having his mind reading abilities in addition to his pyromania, realizes when he's being spied upon psychically by Leila. The 2 are inevitably thrown together to sort out the wicked plot that is not only jeopardizing Vlad and Leila's lives, but that of their friends as well. Leila is a great strong heroine and in my personal opinion, a wonderful match for Vlad. The two together are dynamic and explosive and the best part is that Leila's no damsel in distress. She's definitely her own woman, and while Vlad doesn't change for her either (thank goodness - he remains the same arrogant, sarcastic, sometimes merciless but never without a reason Vlad we've come to know and love), he accepts her feisty side and even encourages it. Take these two utterly fantastic leading characters and throw them into the Night Huntress world that never fails to amaze with an action packed storyline full of intrigue, danger, twists, turns, and surprises around most corners, etc and you end up with one incredible read! The first installment of the Night Prince series spin-off was an amazing addition to the Night Huntress World. My only complaint was the abrupt ending because dang it... I want the next book NOW! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Once Burned 5 Skulls and is eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Harlequin Nocturne #139: Vacation with a Vampire: Stay\Vivi and the Vampire\Island Vacation
by
Kendra Leigh Castle and Michele Hauf and Lisa Childs
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: This was a great anthology. Michele's story was worthy of an immediate double read for me. I was glued to the pages of Kendra's tale and will more than likely read that one again as well, and Lisa's closer had an interesting spin that rounded things out nicely for the book. All in all, it was a very engaging read. ' Stay - Michele Hauf Lucian is a Parisian vampire running an antique shop and enjoying life. After helping out a friend with a spell and donating some blood, he decides to take from the customer waiting for him outside of his shop door when he arrives back at work. Magen is on holiday in Paris trying to kick up her heals and fantasizing about a lucid affair with a sexy Frenchman. When the two come together there's instant chemistry and between danger, romance and revenge, Magen is swept off of her feet by the sexy Frenchman she's always dreamed of and Lucian finds himself wanting to do something he's never wanted to do in his VERY long life... actually ask someone to stay. Vivi and the Vampire - Kendra Leigh Castle Justin, the workaholic king of the vampires is forced into taking a vacation by his sister. Immediately upon arriving he's forced right back into work by bringing one of his vamps in line and stopping an attack. Vivi is a Hunter attempting to enjoy some time away without vampires. That doesn't last long though, and she's immediately forced into a confrontation with not 1, but 2 vamps and then saved by a 3rd. 2 unlikely allies, they decide to work together and because they're both on vacation and rules shouldn't apply, decide they might as well get to know each other a little bit better as well. Their `vacation' proves interesting however, and there is danger lurking around every corner. Torn between the undeniable feelings for one another and their learned natures that are hard to ignore, theirs is a relationship full of excitement. Island Vacation - Lisa Childs Piper won a vacation through her work lottery and since she had never been on vacation she figured why not. It worried her a bit though, as she's been sort of in hiding for the last several years and she was afraid of blowing her cover and being thrown back into her waking nightmare. Roarke is a vampire bent on revenge. When he thinks he's found the person who deserves his wrath he plans a scheme to get her in his clutches. The relationship between these two was explosive. A case of mistaken identity (or is it?), a tragic history that was put to rest (or was it?) and two people who are forced to confront the darkest parts of themselves and each other while uncovering some long buried secrets and diabolical plots. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Vacation With a Vampire 4 Skulls.

Shadow Rising
by
Kendra Leigh Castle
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Shadow Rising from NetGalley and settled in with my Cait Sith tanktop ready for Damien's book. I absolutely love Damien, and was a little worried that I had put too high of expectations on the release. I shouldn't have worried, because immediately upon finishing it, my exact words were: "Quite possibly the best book I've read all year & I've read some good ones! Simply amazing!!" :) Ariane is a Grigori. A headstrong female among a clan of male dominant, secretive vampires known for watching and not interfering. She's not your average Grigori though. She's something of an outcast among her clan due to the nature of her turning (which she can't even remember) and the level of humanity she retained after she became a vampire. When her best (and possibly only) friend disappears from their desert home, she goes against orders of her clan Ancients and sets out to find him on her own. Damien is a Cait Sith, one of the cat shifting clan of vampires, and also a Shadow - an assasin. He's hired by a Grigori to locate their missing Ancient and sets out as usual in his cool an detached way. When his search causes him to run into a woman with eyes like violets and hair like spun platinum, his world gets absolutely rocked. Where he had never let emotion interfere with a job in the many, MANY years he'd been around, all it takes is one glance from this Grigori to mess with his head. Finding that they simply can't avoid eachother, and that things might go smoother if they just pooled their resources and worked together, they embark on their journey to find the missing Sammael, along with the help of the heads of the other dynasties who realized that "the enemy of my enemy could possibly be my friend"... Side notes: Damien is the ULTIMATE alpha hero. He's snarky, sarcastic, stubborn, and sexy as sin - the quintessetial bad boy - and he sooo made me purr. LOL. I had been waiting for his book, but this exceeded even my expectations. We get some great appearances from some of our other favorite vamps as well in this installment, and Vlad in this book just made me want his book even more!! What more can I say... the book was an action-packed, thrilling, suspenseful, surprising journey in the beautifully complex world of the Dark Dynasties and I was completely enthralled. I cannot wait for the next book! LITERAL ADDICTION gives Shadow Rising an easily earned 5 Skulls and would recommend it to EVERYONE! While it's not necessary to read the preceding books to enjoy this installment, I will warn you that the minute you finish Shadow Rising you'll want to read the others, so you might as well start with book #1 and just enjoy the ride. :)

Haunted

Jeanne C. Stein
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Haunted from the Publisher for review. I settled in with the tale on a trip out of town and almost missed several set meet up times because I couldn't put it down! Haunted is basically an action movie set to paper with a leading lady to rival Jennifer Garner, Angelina Jolie, or any of the other action heroines out there that we so love. Our favorite gun-toting, 'what you see is what you get' PI/Vampire is thrown into a devastatingly dangerous situation with her friend and shapeshifter Culebra and ex and DEA agent Max. What starts out as a favor for a friend, turns into a huge ordeal full of Mexican drug cartels, child sex/slavery rings, and more. It's one hurdle after another for Anna and her gang, and NOTHING is as it seems! During the ordeal, Anna & Culebra gain a few unexpected allies and new friends, Max proves that he's not quite the jerk that we thought he was, Anna makes sacrifices yet again to save her friends and the innocent, and in the end... the good guys win... um... sort of. This book was intense and the end had my heart rate elevated immensely and a look of utter shock on my face. I can't tell you more without ruining it, but it was OH SO GOOD!! Haunted was action packed, emotion filled, & utterly fantastic!! While I suggest reading the entire series, Haunted can definitely be read as a stand alone novel. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Haunted 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone! Urban Fantasy lovers need to check into the Anna Strong Chronicles, it's a journey you won't regret!

Precinct 13
by
Tate Hallaway
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I'm from a small town in Wisconsin (very close to where Tate bases her other series) and my beau is from a small town in South Dakota and has family in Pierre. When I saw that the story was based in Pierre it was just one more reason for me to want to read it after being lucky enough to receive an ARC from the Publisher. Upon completion of Precinct 13, my exact words were "An absolute breath of fresh air! As a paranormal junkie it is so hard to find truly new material these days & this book surprised me from the first page to the last. :) I can't wait to see what's up next for Alex, Val, Jack, Jones, Stone, Precinct 13 & the rest of the ordinarium in Pierre." As stated, Precinct 13 is a new and exciting Urban Fantasy - a unique spin on magic that leans more towards the mystery side of things. There is a lot of dark humor, but it's lighthearted in its own way and I found myself chuckling numerous times throughout the story. Tate also writes in such a way that you feel very much a part of the story with Alex, the leading lady. As things are uncovered for her, they're uncovered for the reader as well and I thoroughly enjoyed that about Precinct 13. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Precinct 13 4 Skulls and would recommend it highly. I can't wait to see what Tate brings us with the continuation of the series!

A Fresh Set of Eyes

Liz Strange
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I'm a Liz Strange fan and whether it be her paranormal romance, her other romances, her YA, or her Mystery, plain and simple...the woman can write! A Fresh Set of Eyes was another great mystery by Liz. Picking up where Missing Daughter, Shattered Family left off, but with a new case (inspired by a true story for those that didn't know), David takes on a cold case many years on the shelf and goes above and beyond to prove the innocence of the 2 boys who were wrongly accused. The 'whodunit' had me completely surprised and I found that until the end, I had no idea who are true bad guy really was - a sign of a very well written mystery! LITERAL ADDICTION gives A Fresh Set of Eyes 4 Skulls and would recommend the David Lloyd Investigations books. They have characters with heart that you, as a reader, will grow to care about, and the plot lines are intriguing and suspenseful. I can't wait to see what happens next. With everything coming together nicely at the end of the book it opens things up for so much more.

Ties To The Blood Moon
by
Robin P. Waldrop

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I snatched this book up on Amazon when Robin had it available for free. It took a bit to get to it, but I wanted to read book #2 before Robin's Event with LITERAL ADDICTION so I settled in with both of them. Ties to the Blood Moon was a very Twilightesque YA, but different enough to warrant its own opinions, and with enough intrigue to keep my interest and make me want to keep reading. I actually found myself chuckling several chapters in because I actually thought I wouldn't be able to get into it - being YA and all - but I found myself needing to know what would happen next. :) Robin builds a very captivating world full of myth and history and drops it all into a picturesque Alaska setting revolving around the 3 main supe groups - the Adlet wolves, the Lycan wolves and the Blood Drinkers - in the form of some well developed characters that stick with you. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and while I expected the angst and the love triangle (it is a YA after all!) it wasn't too over the top. There were many twists and turns throughout the storyline (I won't go into details because I don't do spoilers), but they were very enjoyable and Robin threw me for a major loop with the ending, and leaves us with quite the cliff-hanger (an EXCELLENT way to make readers want the next installment ASAP). I'm excited to see where the series goes. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Ties to the Blood Moon 4 Skulls.

Shadow Of The Blood Moon

Robin P. Waldrop
literaladdiction
, October 05, 2012
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: After Robin left me completely wanting more at the conclusion of Book #1, Ties to the Blood Moon, I couldn't help but dive into Shadow of the Blood Moon immediately. Picking up right where Ties to the Blood Moon left off, Gen and gang are on a mission to set things right within the supernatural community and fulfill her destiny as the Adlet Princess, despite all of the changes in plan that took place during book #1 (you're just going to have to read it to find out what I'm talking about). :) Traveling overseas, William and Gen are on their way to a meeting with the head vampire when all hell breaks loose. Dishonesty, distrust, discord and mayhem ensue, and it makes for one heck of a read. Like book #1, there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me flipping pages frantically to find out what would happen next. Like in book #1 as well, the characters were well developed and force the reader to feel for them, one way or another. Unfortunately, my feelings toward Gen in this installment were not very positive. She was too short tempered, too whiny, and too selfish. It did however lend to the overall storyline, and I can only hope that given what her attitude costs her in this book, she'll learn... Robin leaves us hanging at the end of this book as well and I was utterly frustrated that book #3 won't be out until around Halloween. My dislike for Gen aside, LITERAL ADDICTION gives Shadow of the Blood Moon 4 Skulls for the story, the intrigue, and the growth of the supporting cast.

Fire Kissed

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: This is still one of my very favorite Urban Fantasy series, even if this is a spin-off - Book #4 in the Shadow world, book #1 of the Shadowkissed series. While I liked the books of the 'original' series a bit better, this was still dark, beautifully written, and intriguing from beginning to end. I stand by my initial comments after completing Shadow Bound (book #1 of the Shadow series) - Erin writes with poetic prose that is utterly captivating... Our characters: Kaye Brand is a mage with some trauma in her background. Jack Bastian is an angel with a bit of an attitude. While angels and shadows don't generally mix, Jack's current assignment pairs him up with Kaye in an attempt to gather some information for the Order and rid the world of the growing Wraith problem. In doing so, they are forced to work together - the smoldering attraction is an interesting side effect. :) While I didn't jump up and down with love for Jack and Kaye like I did for the other pairs in the series, I still absolutely adore this world that Erin has built and I eagerly immerse myself in it every chance I get. I did love the twists that the story took (you're just going to have to read it to find out what I'm talking about!) and I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Erin ended the book as a segue to the coming installments and a HEA for Jack and Kaye. I was also pleased to have a reappearance of Kahn and the other members of Segue. I had missed them so much and was so glad to be able to 'say hi' again. :) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Fire Kissed 4 Skulls. I can't wait for the next novel from Erin!

Two Weeks Notice Revivalist Book 2

Rachel Caine
literaladdiction

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Michelle M: Bryn Davis is now working with the FBI after they said they would provide her with Returne so that she will not "die". If at anytime she doesn't get her daily supply of the drug she knows that she will die a slow death full of decay and decomposition. Bryn also can be retained by the FBI at any time they feel fit to bring her in on a job. At this time her life is going great, she has a good job, great boyfriend and a cute bulldog that adores her. Bryn also is the head of a support group for the Returne victims and that is where things start to change. Support group members disappear, Bryn is still looking for her sister as well as keeping her relationship going with Patrick McCallister. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this series but then I read and got pulled into Working Stiff and couldn't wait to read Two Weeks' Notice and this book pulled me in the same way. There is so much action and adventure this book keeps you wanting more so that you can see what will happen next. I found myself wanting to chew my nails not only because of the action but in between reading so that I could get back to it! Rachel Caine puts a new spin on a Zombie like story line that totally keeps you engrossed while in some parts you can't believe that somethings were actually happening. I can't wait until the next book comes out so that we can continue the Bryn Davis story and find out what she will get into next! LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer gives Two Weeks' Notice 4 Skulls.

Immortal Hope The Curse of the Templars

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: My first comments upon finishing this book were: "Incredible find! A HUGE thank you to Claire for reaching out to me, sending me the ARC of Immortal Surrender & prompting me to buy and read Immortal Hope. A sassy heroine, super sexy alpha males, incredible Knights Templar history with a fresh & unique preternatural spin, smoldering romance, and plenty of action. Loved it." O.K, now let's break that down... Anne, our heroine, is a sassy history professor immersing herself in the task of finishing her thesis on the Knights Templar. Ironically, she ends up meeting a real-life Knight of the Order, and throws herself at the chance to get first hand accountings and validation for her hypotheses. The problem, there's more to Anne than meets the eye, and the Order has no plans
