Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. This title looks very promising. I read the author's reasons for writing it at http://www.torforgeblog.com/2017/09/05/only-in-fiction/?utm_source=exacttarget&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_term=na-newitzarticle&utm_content=na-readblog-blogpost&utm_campaign=sep17tornewsletter&et=38995-n19595941

Case of the Friendly Corpse

This story is exotic fantasy and gave me many good laughs. Kind of an older style of writing but similar to a Harry Potter story of sorcery and all that but more of a twisty punch to it. A spell gone slightly awry revives a corpse whose affections aren't all that desirable.

Myths of Happiness What Should Make You Happy but Doesnt What Shouldnt Make You Happy but Does

I wouldn't buy this book. The premise is defeatist saying happiness is impossible basically and what one's hopes and dreams are when starting a new step in life are worthless and impossible. I am truly sorry this author is so without hope. There has to be a hundred happier books for every dismal one like this. Keep shopping, Powell's has more to offer as well as the publishing industry.

Strange News From Another Star

I read this book in my senior year of high school in 1978, most likely when I should have been listening to my Trigonometry teacher instead. So some years have lapsed since reading but I remember liking this Strange News From Another Star because it seemed quite simply written and nicely imaginative. Delightful short story.
