Moon & More
by
Sarah Dessen

Should she go for her dreams or stay at her roots? This is the question Emaline must ask herself. Living in a small beach town, called Colby, nothing exciting ever happens. That is until an unexpected chain of events turns her whole life upside down. First, he boyfriend of three years breaks up with her, next she meets Theo, who is the polar opposite of everything she knows. At this same time, Emaline is trying to reconnect with her estranged father and younger half brother she has only met a handful of times, and figure out her plans for college. As the summer that has changed her life comes to an end, she realizes that what really matters is being happy, even if it’s not the life she had envisioned. I really liked this book because it was very funny, sad, exciting, interesting, and real. The characters and their struggles are problems everyone faces. The people who would like this book are teenage girls because they can relate to the story. Also, anyone who has liked other Sarah Dessen books would appreciate it because like most of her books, it is set in the same place and shows characters you have seen in previous books. If you are looking for an engaging and fun story I would suggest The Moon and More By: Sarah Dessen.

Queen's Own Fool: A Novel of Mary Queen of Scots
by
Jane Yolen and Robert Harris

This book is about an orphan who becomes Queen Mary's own fool. They go through a lot together and through many struggles and hardships. I did not like this book because it did not have much of a conflict. It was very historically accurate and would be a good book if you needed information on Queen Mary of Scots, but only for that purpose. It was very slow and it did pick up a little bit, but not much. Also, you cannot relate to any of the characters. They have no personalities and feel like characters, not people. When I read a book I want to feel like I am in the place they are, and feel their emotions. When characters died I wasn't sad, or happy. Another thing is that even though it was first person, it did not feel like it. I think that this could have been a very good book because it had a lot of action and adventure. I definitely would not have read it alone but it was very good for a book group because there was a lot to talk about. Also, it was very confusing so it helped to see what different people got out of the same words.
