The Sirens of Titan
by
Kurt Vonnegut
Justin E Barnard
, May 07, 2015
Brilliant and engaging from start to finish. My first experience with Vonnegut and I couldn't have been more impressed. For years I've sought an equal to the prescient dystopias in 1984 and Brave New World. Content: check. Foresight/applicability: check. Readability: check plus plus. The Sirens paints a beautiful deconstruction of mankind's unrelenting pursuit for purpose. V's unequaled dark satire prowess sheds light on the childishness, the brutal selfishness of man, simultaneously illuminating our endearing capacity for love and our desire to be free. The result is a novel you won't be able to put down, that will make you contemplate your life, as well as all those lives that ever were. Must read.

Grimus
by
Salman Rushdie

Excellent first novel, but then again this is Rushdie we're talking about. Written during the early days of modern physics (M-Theory, superstring etc.), the author utilizes a beautiful hybridity between the magical realism we see in his later works and science fiction. The result is a work of art teeming with imagination indicative of his better known later novels. I highly recommend this title for readers familiar with Rushdie, as well as an introduction into his fiction for those not yet exposed to one of the greatest literary minds of our time.
