Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

My Schools A Zoo
by
Stu Smith

What if the animals took over the school??? It wouldn't be an ordinary day, that's for sure. Told in rhyming text, we are taken on a journey of a little boy's imagination after his visit to the zoo. Illustrations by the fabulous David Catrow. From Scholastic: In a wacky and imaginative tale, a boy finds his entire world inhabited by animals following a field trip to the zoo. Ordinary situations are turned upside down, from breakfast with a zebra and rhino (his parents) to lions in the lunchroom and hyenas on the playground. Just when things get back to normal, he is left to worry about the upcoming class trip to a dinosaur display! Full of fun.

Lunar Chronicles 01 Cinder
by
Meyer, Marissa

It's hard to believe that I read Cinder for the first time 3 years ago. What's harder to believe is that it will all come to an end in November of 2015. Cinder isn't your typical fairy tale princess....she's a cyborg who is a mechanic and who LOVES her sister...everything unlike the Cinderella we all know. There is an evil Queen (Levana), a handsome prince (Kai) and some adorable androids (how do I know they are adorable? Meyer's writing convinces you so!) This series, taking place in future Beijing, is hard to put down yet I find myself rereading it simply because I want it to continue. Do yourself a favor and take a chance on this gem!

Harry is such an important part of our life....we own the books in several different formats and I'm always on the look out for a complete box set. If you have never picked up a Harry Potter book I highly recommend that you pick up book one and be ready to read it through.....
