Holy smokes! What an adventure this book is. I was on one dark and wild ride with Jack Parker, the 16 year-old kid who is on the search for his kidnapped younger sister. The author nailed the language and tone for this story's theme and time. I absolutely loved his writing style. At times it was gory and very violent but I could not put this book down. One of my favorites and now a new favorite author!

I Am Pilgrim A Thriller
by

Holy smokes! What a tour de force this is! They are not kidding when they say this is a thriller. This book is not a "quick" read because I found myself wanting to re-read sentences and paragraphs over again just so the information would truly sink in and I could really experience this book. The writing is brilliant and masterful and packed full of suspense. Completely unputdownable and at 607 pages, I really felt immersed in this novel and found myself wanting more. This writer is a genius and I cannot wait until his next novel.

Good Luck of Right Now
by
Matthew Quick

This is my first time reading Matthew Quick but since I loved "The Silver Linings Playbook," boy am I glad I gave this author a shot. This book is about a grieving, jobless, fat, bald man who is trying to move on past the death of his mother. This probably sounds like someone you would not want to know but trust me, by the end of the book, you will want to have a cocktail with him and give him a big squeezy hug. This is truly a compassionate story told with a quick pace and filled with quirky, fun, lovable characters. I dare you to try and put it down. Or to not fall in love with Bartholomew Neil.

Obituary Writer
by
Ann Hood

Wow! I could not put this book down. The story toggles between two women living in different eras and I love how the author, Ann Hood, transports the reader right back to the 1960's and the turn of the century. She really nails the time periods and creates a fascinating but heartbreaking novel. Loved every minute I spent reading this. Only wish it was longer!

The White Princess
by
Gregory, Philippa

This is the latest book in the Cousins' War series by Philippa Gregory and boy, she's done it again. Gregory has created a tale full of intrigue that blends historical fiction and fact, thereby creating a juicy page-turner of a read. This story focuses on Elizabeth of York and her tumultuous marriage to Henry Tudor. At the novel's core lies a political marriage seen in all its complexity, tender moments, tense negotiations and angry confrontations. This will be a quick read as you will find you won't be able to put it down!

Mayas Notebook
by
Isabel Allende

What a wonderful surprise this book was! I had read Isabel Allende before ("Daughter of Fortune") and thought it was just okay so I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. But I found myself loving this and I couldn't put it down! This is a suspenseful, modern coming-of-age tale about a teenager, Maya, who is abandoned by her parents and left to be raised by her grandparents. When one of them dies, Maya goes off the rails. This is a no- holds-barred story about how she rises above her sordid past and uncovers the mysteries behind her family and own life. A truly captivating read.
