Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood
by
Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah’s memoir includes enough humor to entertain and enough content to educate. I didn’t realize how little I knew about South Africa until I read his story.

Grammar of God A Journey into the Words & Worlds of the Bible
by
Aviya Kushner

, September 24, 2015
Aviya Kushner is an orthodox Jew who grew up speaking Hebrew in her home in Monsey NY. After a journalism career that took her overseas and into some risky situations, she was accepted into the Writers Program at the University of Iowa, studying with Marilynne Robinson, and taking Marilynne's course on the Bible. She soon realized how differently Marilynne and the Bible translators approach grammatical structure from how she and the Jews approach it. It makes a huge difference in how the stories are understood. Marilynne asked Aviya to teach her, and Marilynne encouraged her to write this book.

Girl Reading
by
Katie Ward
Kate97214
, February 18, 2012
Girl Reading is an exquisitely written novel told as the stories of five women across seven centuries. Each segment ends with questions or reflections on the meaning of life and how it moves forward. Ward's character development led me to empathize with most of the sinners as well as the saints. The connectedness of creation theme evolves as the novel progresses.
