The Graveyard Book
by
Neil Gaiman

This is a wonderfully bittersweet coming of age story about a boy named Bod. He is hastily taken in by a graveyard of ghosts after Bod's family is murdered. This book is engrossing, and you won't be able to out it down. The characters brilliantly come to life and the writing allows you to feel as if your in the graveyard with Bod. While Bod's life is anything but ordinary, he is well lived by his ghostly adopted parents, and the other members of the graveyard. The story takes you on a journey of his adventures while growing up; all the triumphs and sadness. I absolutely loved this book, would recommend it for people of all ages, and will definitely read if again.

The Big Sleep
by
Raymond Chandler

, March 01, 2014
I enjoyed this book and it was a fast paced, good read. Raymond Chandler's writing allows the reader to get lost on the streets of Hollywood and chase down a blackmailer, with Detective Marlowe. The detective is hired when an a dying millionaire needs to find out who is blackmailing his troublesome daughter. Quickly Marlowe is swept up in a deadly adventure. This book has everything one could want from a classic hard boiled detective story; a quick witted detective, larger than life characters, and more than one good mystery to solve.

Dante Club

This suspense filled book takes place in Boston during the late 1880's.. As a group of literary scholars try to translate Dante's works to English, they are met with opposition from Harvard, the church, and grizzly murders. Shortly after the translations start, so do the murder, in a similar style to that of Dante's hell. The men of the Dante Club quickly realize they must race to find the murderer, before anyone else looses their life. This book was suspenseful and eery, but I couldn't put it down.

, March 01, 2014
This is the first book in the Thursday Next series. Next is a former soldier, working for LiteraTech as a special ops literary detective. The book takes place in a some what futuristic 1985. Thursday finds herself in the middle of a dangerous case involving criminal mastermind Acheron Hades. Thursday will do anything to save her family and beloved books from Hades. This book is a fun detective fiction read , with a strong, relatable female character in the lead.
