Succulents Simplified Growing Designing & Crafting with 100 Easy Care Varieties
by
Debra Lee Baldwin

Debra Lee Baldwin manages to be informative, entertaining and funny describing the plants she holds such passion for. I picked this book up expecting it to be dry and was surprised to find myself drawn in and excited to read more about these unique plants. What really makes this book stand out is how simply she describes the growth and care for succulents. Before reading this I was intimidated to try gardening, but now I am growing some mosaic aloe of my own! While I do have Debra Lee Baldwin's other book, "Succulent Container Gardens", I would suggest reading "Succulents Simplified" first if you are just starting out growing succulents. I think it is a much easier book to follow and to stay interested in without becoming discouraged from gardening them yourself. Debra Lee Baldwin does a great job making these plants accessible to her readers and her ability to teach well from a book is inspiring.

Astonish Me

This book was so good that I sat down and read it in one sitting. It's beautifully written, and the characters are intriguing. I heard a review of it on NPR Books and picked it up after that. NPR commented that this book shows the tenuous and competitive relationship between women, but I think the depth of the novel goes much further than that. This book gives snapshots of various types of relationships; including friendships, parental bonds, romantic and partnerships. It helped me gain perspective on how human beings depend on one another, how we fall in love without romance or how romance for a passion (in this case dance) can drive love. "Astonish Me" is a breath of fresh air and I loved every moment with it.

Devil Wears Prada

I don't know why so many people gave this book a low rating. It was well written, and I enjoyed reading it. If you have been around the artist industry, there are people like Miranda Priestly who exist. Maybe that's why I liked this book! I liked the movie a little better than the book to be honest because the story wrapped up better by the end of the film. However, I liked that the book emphasized more of what this girl could do for herself without Miranda's help. Good summer read!

Gourmet Herbs: Classic and Unusual Herbs for Your Garden and Your Table
by

I liked this little book. It is a very concise, handy guide to general instructions on container gardening, drying herbs, making your own herb infused vinegar and butter, etcetera. It also includes a short encyclopedia of herbs at the back, as well as some recipes throughout the book that also sounded great to me. I'd much rather have a pocket reference guide to gardening herbs because I do not have much space to garden. If you are working on designing a garden or you are into true chef culinary skills, this may not be the book for you.
