Poverty, by America

I disagree that Desmond’s latest book comes up short on proposals to combat poverty, as I found his analysis of why poverty persists very persuasive, as well as his prescriptions. Read how public policies (especially tax policy) can be reformed and decide for yourself how you contribute to the status quo, every day.

Tuesday

This book rates very highly on my List of "Terrific Wordless". When I taught elementary students with communication & literacy challenges, I encouraged my students to write their own words to the picture story in "Tuesday." Wiesner's beautiful, detailed illustrations (& few words) lend themselves very well to instruction, as well as a good deal of plain fun. Now my 3 year old grandson is a Wiesner fan as well.
