Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. These Is My Words The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine 1881 1901 Arizona Territories
by

This book touched my heart in so many places. These characters become like long lost relatives. Sarah is a girl after my own heart, doing whatever it takes to survive in a harsh world. Survival in the Arizona territory late 1800s was no easy feat. This book shows you that life from one women's perspective. Good times, bad times, worse times, all recorded in a diary. Though only fiction, the memory of Jack and Sarah; their love, their family and friends, their trials and tribulations, will stay etched in my memory.

There is not a scrabble word that describes how I feel after reading this book. It is a haunting tale full of suspense that takes you down the dark alley of the human mind. There are books that are fun to read and then there are books that leave you changed after your read them. Love it or hate it, this book is one that changes you. A book that will linger in your mind long after finishing the last page. Saying anything more will ruin it for you.

Goodnight June
by
Sarah Jio
DianaB
, August 27, 2014
Sarah Jio weaves a tale about the possible origins of the famous children’s book, Goodnight Moon. The story revolves around June. Her Aunt Ruby has died and left a children’s book store to her, forcing her to go back home and face her past, which includes coming face to face with her estranged younger sister. June finds out her sweet Aunt Ruby had many secrets and she must find the answers in time to save the beloved book store. In the process, love is found, love is lost, and old wounds are set on a path of healing. This is an enjoyable, feel-good novel that is easy to read. If you spent your childhood with you face stuck in books, you will appreciate this book.
