Not by Sight

There are certain defining moments in life when you come across that one book whose story is so tangible that you find yourself hopelessly lost in it. Books such as these are what one might call "a diamond in the rough" or a classic. What is it about them that makes them so special? Let me tell you why Kate Breslin's newest release, Not By Sight, falls into that category. Not By Sight is a riveting story set in England during the rise of WWI. Grace Mabry and Jack Benningham, our main protagonists, lives become inevitably entangled because of a simple choice that opens a Pandora's box of troubles. Who would have thought that one white feather could leave chaos in its wake? Throughout this journey fraught with danger and espionage, they learn the vital importance of walking by faith. I must confess that at first I wondered if I would like that book at all. Far to often, one tends to judge a book by its cover or the words of a friend. However, once I started out on the adventure, I found it utterly impossible to put down until it came to a close. The story flows like a beautiful sonorous melody, full of such emotion, depth, and wonderful cadence. Prepare to be amazed! In my humble opinion, Not By Sight is one of the best books to come out this year. The author really does have a curious knack for storytelling and deftly weaving history, espionage, sweet romance, and resilient faith throughout the entire novel. Kate Breslin is the new author that you'll want to be following. This was my first book by her and I look forward to reading more of her incredible books. I would highly recommend it to anyone, but most especially lovers of mystery and historical fiction. *I received a complimentary copy of Not by Sight from the author in exchange for an honest review and was not required to give a positive review. Tiffany Girl A Novel
by

First of all I had no intention of finishing it all at once. Unlike most books I read I had decided to savor this one. But, somewhere along the way, the story latched on to me and wouldn't let go until the book came to a close. I am rather certain that you too will find it quite difficult to put down once you begin. It is an unforgettable story about change and life in the 19th century. Tiffany Girl, a intriguing historical fiction novel, is a spellbinding tale that gives us a glimpse into what life may have been like for the real life Tiffany Girls. If some of the letters from one of the girls hand not discovered in 2005, no one would know the story of these talented and intrepid women of the 19th century. In 1892, months before the Chicago World's Fair was due to open, Tiffany's glass workers went on strike, leaving him without workers to finish his stained glass windows for the fair. He threw all of the strikers into an uproar when he decided to hire women to replace them. Those he hired endured all sorts of mistreatment at their hands, especially since women of "good repute" did not work outside of the home. This time period marked the start the "New Woman" movement. Upon opening the pages of Tiffany Girl, the very first people you will meet are Reeve Wilder and Flossie Jayne, the story's central characters. Flossie is an art student whose fortune changes when she receives a job offer from Tiffany that she cannot resist. From thence, she moves into a boarding house to be closer to her place of work. It is there that she meets Reeve, who is a local journalist, and a host of others who lodge there as well. They all prove to be quite an interesting lot and undertake a rather fascinating journey together. But, as all things go in life, they run into some roadblocks along the way and their faith is sorely tested. Personally, what drew me into the story was the complexity, emotional depth, and growth of the hero throughout the entirety of the book. The heroine also undergoes a transformation as she is faced with reality in all its ugliness. The author's masterful gift for storytelling really shines throughout every page, especially in her attention to historical detail. I truly enjoyed reading this rich, vibrant novel and would recommend it to readers of historical fiction. On an aside note, the author did switch to writing for the general market several books ago, but I have found her books to still be a good read. * I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

From the Start

Have you ever read a story so good that you were unable to forget it weeks after you finished it? I have! From the Start is just such a book that struck a chord with me and whose engrossing story and delightful characters drew me in. It is the first book in Walker Family, Melissa Tagg's newest series. Kate Walker & Colton Greene, the central characters of the story, are each going through a rough patch in their lives. Colton, a former NFL quarterback, has been permanently sidelined by an injury and hides away in Kate's hometown. Kate, a movie screenwriter, is also seeking some respite and heads back home after news of a natural disaster. But, from the start, God had a greater plan for their lives. One that, incidentally, throws them together and forces them to turn their lives around and trust in His will for their lives. It is my honest opinion that this book is the author's greatest work yet and quite possibly one of the most heartwarming and evocative books that I have ever read. I found myself relating to Kate and, by the end of the book, I had grown so attached to everyone that I did not want to say goodbye. If there was an idea that the author wished you to take away from it, I believe it would go something like this: "When life sidelines you, trust in God to guide you on to the next step in the future that He has planned for you." Although I have enjoyed every book by the author, there is something inherently different about From the Start that sets it above all the others. It was so subtle that I nearly missed it. It has a depth that I have rarely seen in others of its genre. Even the romance itself was extraordinary and I was so caught up in the emotional journey of Kate & Colton that I forgot that I was reading a book. I laughed, cried, cheered them on, and even enjoyed the football. For me, the most wonderful part was the warm, close-knit family and small hometown community. There is certainly nothing pretentious about the author's writing style. Instead, there is the sense of this unassuming, down-to-earth writer with a personal story to tell. From the Start may well have been the author's hardest story to write, but that is because it came from deep within the heart. It is books like these that are the ones that we cherish and may often become dog-eared because we have read them over and over so many times. In conclusion, I really must say that I absolutely loved this book and I would definitely recommend it, especially to those who enjoy reading riveting, contemporary Christian romance. While it many not be in the genre that you normally read, it is still a refreshingly good read and would not be a waste of your time. Even I, an avid reader of historical fiction found myself hopelessly hooked. I received a complimentary copy of From the Start from the author in exchange for an honest review.
