Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Cycling Sojourner A Guide to the Best Multi Day Tours in Washington

I LOVE this book! I'm new to bike touring, but this book made me all the more excited for the possibilities (and there's an Oregon one, too!). Detailed guides, great food/drink/accommodation recommendations at all price points, historical info, heads-ups to hazards, and just a fun, thoughtful writing style all make this a go-to for folks wanting to explore the Northwest on two wheels. Add to that the fact that all pages are *perforated*, so you can tear out a handful of cue sheets and hit the road any time without carrying the whole book. Brilliant!

All That the Rain Promises and More: A Hip Pocket Guide to Western Mushrooms
by

The *ideal* intro guide for new mushroom hunters. My boyfriend and I picked this up this weekend before heading out on a drizzly hike as first-time 'shroomers. This book did not disappoint! From its visual "if X, then Y" quick guide to navigating mushroom IDs to its plenitude of hilarious photographs of other hunters who we can only imagine are some of the author's good-humored personal friends, we felt pretty comfortable narrowing down the possibilities for the different species we found---including a whole pile of chanterelles! Pair with a more technical guide for more precise IDing, but we were really only concerned with positively IDing the chants (easy-peasy), and the rest were just for fun. Happy hunting!
