Queer
by
William S Burroughs

From what I know, this book is one of William S. Burroughs' lesser-known works, and is overall an engaging piece of queer fiction (no pun intended). A prominent theme throughout the story is unrequited affections, and I especially enjoyed the imagery Burroughs used to describe the protagonist's reactions as he dealt with the pains of subtle and not-so-subtle rejection. This was the first book I read by Burroughs, so I didn't know what to expect...but if this novel is any indication, I will most definitely check out his other work.

Seconds
by
Bryan Lee O'Malley

An avid fan of Bryan Lee O'Malley's work thus far, I was looking forward to the release of his new book this summer. Seconds was no disappointment. I found it a compelling story that was both charming and eerie at times, and absolutely loved the gorgeous artwork and colors in every panel. As a young adult, I could relate to the problems the protagonist dealt with, and the underlying concept of escapism and its consequences. All in all, it was a great read, and definitely a book I will come back to time and time again.

Danza
by
Natsume Ono

A beautiful collection of six heartwarming short stories, Danza was a pleasure to read. I have admired Natsume Ono's narrative style and simple yet charming illustration ever since reading Not Simple (which is a pretty good introduction to her work). I would love for more of her works to be translated into English!
