Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. In the Blink of an Eye A Perspective on Film 2nd Edition
by
Murch, Walter

Walter Murch is brilliant in his writing about the process of editing and it is so approachable. not effected. very real, very straight forward and fantastic. He is able to capture both the thinking of an artist and the actual work of editing in simple terms with deep meaning. He loves what he does and it comes through. I highly recommend this book for any beginner or accomplished editor.

The Omnivore's Recipe Keeper: A Treasury for Favorite Meals and Kitchen Resources
by
Celia Sack

This is a real keeper. I love my recipe keeper. filling it with stray recipes I have on pieces of scrap paper - which I put in the pocket and there is lots of empty pages to write new recipes. It will be great to pass on to my daughter one day. What really makes this book is the Design by Susan Fleming it is perfect beautiful, thoughtful, carefully designed for the cook, and full of amazing images. It has a retro 50's feel with a 21st century smartness. Like the reference pages at the back. The color palette, the images (she must have spent hours culling from recipe books) are inspiring and make the whole book a delight to look at and have. I almost didn't want to write in mine at first because it is so stunning to look at each page. the spiral binding makes it easy to use while cooking and is so smart. The design alone is really what makes this book a keeper. (It also makes great gifts! I am buying one for all my friends and family. it makes Christmas easy! you won't be disappointed with your purchase!)
