Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I LOVE this new edition of Harry Potter!!! This series was actually what got me into reading. I was not the best reader when I started this series in sixth grade, but it is a simple enough read. All seven books are children friendly and a fantastic adventure! I quickly found myself getting attached to the character for I connected to them very much. Even though the characters live in a magical world, they face very real challenges like fitting in, grades, discrimination, dating, and family troubles. I will forever love this series and the lessons each book has taught me as I struggle through middle school and high school. Even though the new edition is not as classic as the original, they do capture the theme of each book with their bright colors and realistic drawings of Harry and his friends.

The thing I love about these books, this one in particular is that each book has it's own personality and the main character is mostly interested in herself, which you can really see! She always puts herself first, which has kept her alive all these years. Later in the series you see her to start to care about the welfare of the world first! This book shows small rebellions that Celaena performs against the King, who by the way is a ruthless tyrant. Those rebellions are little sneak peaks of what really goes on in Celaena's head, in the next book she has a BIG secret to share that will allow you to piece together the puzzle of her confusing behavior. The end of this book will leave you craving for more for sure!!!
