Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet
by
David Mitchell

Great to have David Mitchell return to Japan in his latest novel, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. At times it reminded me of James Clavell's early novels like Shogun and Tai-Pan which also tackled action, romance and trade corruption in the orient. David Mitchell's prose is marvelous, and his vivid descriptions bring historic Nagasaki and Dejima to life. I found this one hard to put down, and am very excited to see where this incredible author will take readers next.

Fast paced and extremely entertaining. City of Thieves is kind of book that provides you with white-knuckled thrills and characters that are both hilarious and heartbreaking.
