New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023
(0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

I love this book and recommend it to those who enjoy a journey with many discoveries and a strong and unique young heroine. I enjoy discovering the other world of this story. I love the how the plots unfold. The characters are clearly drawn and honestly, sometimes shockingly, developed. There's action, danger, beauty, travel and a myriad of relationships explored: romantic, familial, political and more.

Seven Kingdoms 02 Fire

Terrific and engrossing. I like that it's called a "companion" to Cashore's first book. That's exactly what it is. It's a stand-alone story with plots, adventures and discoveries to thrill and captivate. But it also bumps up against certain elements from Graceling in a satisfying way. I hope there is a third book because I want more of the surprises and pleasures of that world. And then I'll reread them all for the satisfaction of how they piece together.

A delicious story with thorough characterizations. The heroine is complicated and reminds me of girls/women I know. I root for Katsa as I do my friends. Suspenseful and charming it's a story of intrigue, suspense, self-discovery and the inspiration of travel. It's very hard to put down.

Drinks For The Little Guy
by
Sean Carswell

Sean Carswell has a unique voice as a storyteller. I laughed a lot reading this book. The plot unfolded without me realizing, so engaged I was in the various episodes and conversations that reveal the greater arc. He shares a very particular world of blue collar lives and the dichotomy of "deveopment" and ordinary residents in Florida. Friendship, loyolty, money, surfing, slacking, smoking, intrigue, ethics, construction and comraderie are all in here. And beer. Lots of beer.
