Total Silence

This book was quite a dissappointment. It started out as being intriguing and fast-paced, then about half way through it started getting too far-fetched and came to an abrupt ending. There were actually a few times where I wondered if someone actually edited the writing. This plot had a lot of potential but wasn't developed enough and many aspects went unexplained. As an avid mystery/thriller reader, I did not feel that this was a good one, and if you like a good mystery I would not recommend wasting your time with this one.

Fever Season
by
Barbara Hambly

, February 10, 2007
This is the second book I have tried to get through by this author and I just couldn't do it. It is very rare that I will actually give up on a book and not finish it (I made it about 3/4 of the way on this one), but I had to do it with this one, as well as Hambly's other book I started to read "Wet Grave." The synopsis of this book, "Fever Season" sounded intriguing so I decided to give this author another try. Needless to say, I will not be reading anymore of this author's books. The characters are not well-introduced, and when they come up later in the story and they appear to play some part in the plot, you have to page back to find out where they came from, and sometimes I would still have trouble locating them, because they were mentioned for only a short time. I feel this book is overly "wordy." It impresses so much on historical jargon and facts of the time, that it is hard to follow for someone who is not familiar with New Orleans' history. I felt like the author was more interested in showcasing her knowledge of historic New Orleans than of developing her story. Some people may enjoy that, but I found it to be a drag.

Daughter Of Fortune
by
Isabel Allende

I was actually somewhat dissapointed with this book. I thaought Allende's book House of the Spirits was very good, but I didn't think this one was up to par with that one. I found the story very hard to get into, and I felt that the conclusion of the story left much to be desired. I agree with the other reviewer that the characters were interesting, but I felt disconnected from them. I kept waiting for something more to happen with the plot, but nothing did. Allende is a great writer, but maybe I was expecting too much from this one after reading the House of the Spirits. I felt that there was more focus on the political and historical aspects of the time than on the characters in the story, which I know other people might really like, but I wanted to be better acquainted with the people than the surroundings.

This book was a good mystery, but it wasn't great. I had the bad guy figured out when I was less than half way through it, but none the less, it did keep me interested and I enjoyed the characters in the book. I also enjoyed the supernatural aspect of the story. For avid readers of mysteries, the ending will be easy to figure out, but it is still a worthwhile, enjoyable read.

Missing Pieces

Joy Fielding

This story has a fantastic plot that keeps you glued to the pages. The characters are likeable and interesting, and the author really draws you into their world. I did think, however, that the ending was too abrupt. That is the only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars. It left me wanting more, but other than that I think it is a must read for lovers of psychological suspense books.

Wet Grave

I could not even bring myself to finish this book, and I usually will always finish a book because I don't like to leave one unfinished, but I just couldn't put myself through the torture of this one. It is a historical mystery, which I am usually very fond of, but this one was so slow and so boring it couldn't catch my interest at all. I finished half of it and the story still didn't seem to be going anywhere. There were so many characters that made appearances, but were not explained (at least not in the first half of the book). And the writing was not compelling and very difficult to follow. Very, very dissapointed with this book. Wish I would have checked it out from the library instead of buying it.

This is one of the best crime mysteries that I have read. It is like you are actually sitting there with the investigators and experiencing everything they are first hand. The plot keeps you guessing until the very end, and the historical aspect is fascinating. This book is a must read for fans of mysteries!

House Of The Spirits

This story has some of the most compelling and fascinating characters that I have come across in a novel. The epic story of the Treuba family is breathtaking, touching, and heartbreaking. The dynamics of this complex family is also fascinating. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I thought the last half of the story focused too much on the political situation and struggle of the country, and I wanted to learn more about this incredible family's dynamic and how they developed. That is just a personal preference, but overall this story is beautifully written, and is a must read for all lovers of good-fiction.

This book was incredible!!!! I don't want to say much about it, because I wouldn't want to take anything away from one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. This story has so many twists and turns, and the ending is unbelievable. Any lover of mystery/thriller books, must add this one to their collection.

This book's synopsis made it sound so interesting I couldn't wait to start reading it, but it did not live up to the expectations that I had for it. I found the characters unbelievable, and the story could have probably been shorter, because I thought a lot of the things that took place in the book were drawn out and unnecessary. The end was a huge dissapointment, it wasn't that it was predictable, it was just sooooo over the top, I just felt like saying "give me a break". The story had a good premise, and it could have been good with a less drawn out plot, and a different ending.

When the Wind Blows

This book was entirely different than any of the other books I have read by James Patterson, and all I can say is wow! I absolutely loved this book. It is such a unique, fantasy-like story that involves the horrors of unethical science practices. I was so engrossed in the book, the writing and plot were completely captivating, and the characters were very convincing. This book makes an overall wonderful reading experience.

Never Let Me Go
by
Kazuo Ishiguro

This is the first novel I have read by this author, and I am completely taken by this author's writing. I have not been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it. It really opens up your mind and makes you question a lot of things that are going on in the world around you. It takes on the hefty subject of medical science and it's ethics, and what consequences there might be by thinking you can play "God", and discusses it in a poetic, emotional way. I was in tears in certain parts, and totally enthralled by its complexity. The story is told in first person, and this makes it even more personal and compelling. This book is a must read! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Dont Say A Word

Sometimes I am leary of reading romantic suspense books, because the romance takes away from the mystery. But not in this case. I could not put this book down. The plot involves a woman in search of who she is, a son trying to solve the mystery of what happened to his father, and a case of international intrigue. This story twists and turns and keeps you guessing. The romance in this book was believable, it wasn't corny, and it didn't take away from the wonderful mystery that powers the story. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it definitly will not be the last!

This book appeared to have the makings of a great mystery; however it was predictable and many loose ends were not tied up. The plot involved many characters, some of which were introduced and seemed to be pertinent to the plot, and then were left hanging at the end. I thought there were many aspects that she brought into this mystery plot, and then just forgot to bring in at the end. I am an avid reader of mystery/thriller novels, and found this one to be a dissapointment.

Wow! If you enjoy a great thriller/mystery this is the book for you! There are a lot of characters and it took me awhile to keep them all straight, but when you reach the end you will understand that they are all important and all play a part in this rich plot. There are many surprises in store, and I was so impressed at how this intricate plot all came together in the end. A must read for mystery lovers!

Tenth Circle

This is a powerful story about many family dynamics, relationships and a wide range of emotion. The author does a phenomenal job at portraying the emotions of her characters and bringing you into their world. The first 3/4 of the book was incredible, I could not put it down, and I was hanging on her every word. But in my opinion, the last quarter of the book went downhill. It seemed to be drawn out, and it didn't wrap up the story well, and left you wondering about these characters that you had become so close to. That is the only reason I did not give it the full 5 stars. But I would still highly recommend reading this book from this obviously talented author, I will definitly be reading more by her.

This story is heartbreaking but incredibly powerful. It is told from the point of view of an eight year girl, and you feel as if an eight year old is actually telling her story to you. The abuse that she endures is hard to stomach, but I think it is so important, because it gives a voice to children who might be in a similar situation (even though this is a work of fiction). The ending is incredible, you will never see it coming!

What a page turner! I had to make myself put it down so I could actually get some sleep, otherwise I would have finished it in one night! The plot is excellent and unpredictable. It kept me guessing until the very end. If you enjoy a well thought out thriller with a touch of romance, I highly reccomend this book!

Angels Fall

This is the first novel that I have read by Nora Roberts and it will not be the last. The story had a good suspense plot, with a little romance intermixed. Characters were likeable, and I loved how the author is able to bring you into that small town feel that is the setting for the story. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars, is because the ending was kind of predictable, but overall it was a well written, enjoyable book.

This book had the potential to be very good, except for some of the corny writing. For the first half of the book, I was sick of hearing comments on how nice Dr. Ciccotelli's rear end was. However, the overall plot was excellent. It kept me interested and had good plot twists and an unexpected ending. The "romance" aspect of this story was it's downfall. I did not find it romantic, just annoying.

This story is heartbreaking but incredibly powerful. The abuse that the character Jordan indures is hard to stomach, but the way others help him to save him from this abuse is very touching. The author does a wonderful job with character development, you feel something for each of the characters in the book.
