Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Hanukkah Cookies with Sprinkles

We love this book! For our Christmas advent we are doing a new book each night and this has been one of our very favorites. Great discussion of the holiday meaning in the back of the book, but the story itself is a wonderful demonstration of what Hanukkah is about. This book centers acts of caring and community and is a great story that has further reach than just the holiday season.

What Makes a Baby

Great book that explains, exactly what it's title says, what makes a baby. The explanation uses clear language that doesn't falsely equate gender or relationships to the biological process of making a baby and for that it is radical and why we love it. The amazing colorful illustrations are also an equally important part. Highly recommend.

Red, Yellow, Blue (and a Dash of White, Too!)

We loved this book. Books on colors can be very uninspired and straight forward. This beautiful book takes color mixing and adds space for children's imaginations to swirl right along the pages too. My toddler loves painting and immediately was engrossed with this book.
