New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023
(0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Not Gay: Sex Between Straight White Men
by
Jane Ward
Maria.ale.96
, January 29, 2017
Have you ever wondered about "Bro Culture," like white frat boys, surfers, and white thugs? Like how does Eminem get away with suggesting he would rape a dude or how hazing encourages elephant walks... Do you wanna be more sex positive and dismantle the binary system? Then this book is for you. Not Gay, is a must read for anyone interested in Queer politics and theories. Ward is a critical theorist, but she's not so elitist you can't understand her. This whole book is not about closeted men who are in denial (at least that's what I got from the title) but it expands on heterosexuality and encourages us to think more fluidly. Ward explores heterosexual culture with all of it's queerness, a game changer, I know.

Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches
by
Audre Lorde

10/10 would recommend to any aspiring feminist who is interested in engaging with intersectionality politics in texts. Lorde, really is the mother of intersectional feminism and challenges traditional feminism by highlighting her struggle. Her writing will change your life and is a must read for my fellow women of color, and folks who want to be better allies and thinkers.
