The second book in this series deals a lot with humanity in itself. Both losing yourself but also trying to find some sort of shred of decency and truth. Darrow's journey through this novel is quite complex, but still enough for you to love and hate him all at the same time. This novel was redeeming in this series, the first one just didn't quite get me hooked but the second book has me wanting more in this series. The complex solar system, Darrow's actions and secrets, and just blackmail and backstabbing. The plot twists and dips really leave you reeling. I would recommend this series just for this book in itself.

Cephrael's Hand: A Pattern of Shadow & Light Book 1

This is such a great and DENSE read! I've been trying to find a female fantasy author that just opens up a new world to me, and this did it! Her worldbuilding and magic set in this book are quite phenomenal. Some names seem to be based out of French, so some names I really have no idea how to say. The action starts off right away and I've never used a map in a book as much as this book (and then the later books). Her characters range all over the spectrum, and I love everyone of them and love to hate them as well. If you read her bio, she's interested in philosophy and that totally comes out in the story lines. BUT don't let that turn you off, I know very little and I love how she brings that into the storyline. And! Not only is she a female writer, AND from the Pacific Northwest!! So even better, I've reached out to her on goodreads and reddit, and she responds in such a nice and fast manner. I absolutely was super surprised by her books and am smack in the middle of the 3rd book of the series. Absolutely a fantastic read.
