Tall Trees of Tokyo

After reading through the other two books in the Tall Trees series (on Paris and Portland), Tokyo definitely has its own flavor. As someone who doesn't read Japanese, I especially loved seeing each artist's handwritten responses. In a way, the writing itself is part of the art. I love the array of artists the book chooses to display. It chooses art that is both unique to Tokyo and art that follows international trends that I see locally in my own home city. This is a great coffee table book that makes me want to travel to see the beautiful art!

Tall Trees of Portland

As a Portland native, I am extremely proud of my city. I think this book does a fantastic job displaying the talented array of creatives here. I loved reading about the artists and their favorite places (which many share with my own list of favorites!), as well as recognizing some familiar artwork! This book is entertaining for any Portlander or lover of Portland—or, simply, lover of art. Portland is a haven for creative minds and this book does a good job of showcasing that.

Tall Trees of Paris 42 Independent Artists Share Their City & Their Work

My favorite part about the Tall Trees books is reading what the artist wants us to read about themselves and their art. I love that the book includes the artists' handwritten questionnaire, which gives each artist their unique personality and as the reader, makes me feel more connected. The selection of artists from Paris is beautiful, diverse and unexpected. There's a wide range of art from more modern, abstract designs to more traditional-looking paintings. All my friends are going to be leafing through this when they come over!

Buckminster Fuller Poet of Geometry Written & Ilustrated by Cole Gerst

I read some reviews of long-time Buckminster Fuller fans who picked this book up and loved it. However, I'm someone who *gasp* has never heard of him until this book. That being said, this book still kept me interested and wanting to learn more. The art in the book is beautiful as well. After reading through this, I jumped on YouTube and watched a handful of Fuller documentaries. The book really captures the praise of a genius visionary!

The Field Guide to Drinking in America: A Traveler's Handbook to State Liquor Laws

I can totally see this being a traveling beer junkie's road companion! With all the proper drinking information for each state are fun facts and tidbits that keep me flipping page-to-page, even if I'm not planning to travel. It's the perfect travel book for bars. Everything's plainly laid out and easy to read, with a lot of fun graphics and details. I learned a lot of fun things about drinking in my home state that I didn't know before—Did you know Oregon's Willamette Valley and Burgundy, France are on the same latitudinal line, explaining why they both produce the same types of wine?

Ice Cream Work

Ice Cream Work is a clever children's book. Not only are the illustrations well done, they're also unique and inspire creativity. The concepts in the book are not something I've seen done before in children's books—they're fun and totally new. In the back of the book are activities like character searches and drawing guides, which is another fun way to keep children coming back to this book.
