This has been one of my favorite books that I have ever read! I could not put the book down. The world that Brandon Sanderson created was one that has truly captured my imagination. He was able to explain the world and its rules through the magic of Allomancy and the burning of metals. This was one of the most unique things about the book because it explained how the magic in the world worked, but it was one of the first books to have explained that in such a way that I could understand it and that I was not bored. Every page that I turned I couldn’t wait for the next surprise. The main character Vin was well developed as she was forced to go in disguise as a Nobel and infiltrate the kingdom. It was really interesting to discover a character’s traits and personality through their pretending to be someone else. There was so much packed into this book because not only does it follow the main character and their journey to overthrow the kingdom, but it also included the rich and exciting history of the world Brandon Sanderson created. There were quite a few characters that I grew close to and could relate to in the novel. It had many rich characters throughout the story, and there was a lot of heartbreak in the journey as well. This book deserves so much more recognition than it has got because it truly has got it all. I can’t wait to read the next one!

This book is one of the most interesting books that I have ever read! I picked it up in a class to learn more about the ancient beasts that have affected human life. The style of the book is very unique as it is written as a type of medieval bestiary when it explains the creatures it is describing. It is so interesting because not only does it delve into the cultural and historical significance, but it also explores how the animals were discovered and how they affect our thinking now. I loved how it told me the story of how the animals were found. One of my favorites that it included was of a 39,000 year old mammoth named Yuka. They explored not only how she was found, but also what the person who found her might have been thinking. Not only does it explore history from thousands of years ago, but it also explores the medieval thinking around the time when the animals were written about. In more recent history it talked about the intricacy of science and the animals that had helped move it forward. More memorably, it talked about Arabella, a spider who was the first spider in space and how she was affected. This book was different from any other book that I have ever read as it hooked me through the history of the book and showed me a new way of thinking. It’s an amazing read, just make sure that you are ready to be hooked from the first page.
