Adaptation

I'm not exaggerating when I say this book saved my life. I discovered Adaptation at my local library on accident. At the time, I was in crisis and coming to terms with being bisexual, so finding a book featuring a protagonist who was undergoing the same sort of challenges was so validating. One of the main reasons I love Adaptation is because it's not exclusively romance driven, like so many YA novels I've encountered. There is romance, yes, but the overarching plot is the more important aspect of the story. Who has time for romance when the sketchy government is after you? Reese's relationships with David, Amber, and Julian are characters drive the story with their actions, not just the romantic relationships. This book is always a breath of fresh air to read!

Cut & Run

Categorize this under books that no one has ever heard of but that everyone should read. Cut and Run is the first of a very engaging series about two FBI agents who fall in love (though first, they're at each other's throats). I'm often wary of the enemies to lovers trope since I've seen it used too many times to romanticize abuse, but Cut and Run is an example of how to do it well. Ty and Zane learn to respect and value each other as partners, and the banter they share is honestly so entertaining. My only qualm with this novel is that the mystery was a little too easy for me, but the following books in the series make up for it.

Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus Volume 1

Cardcaptor Sakura was my first ever manga so it will always have a special place in my heart. It was a joy to read the first few volumes collected in an omnibus, and the extra art is beautiful! The only drawback is that, this being an omnibus, it’s thick and a little difficult to hold. The story and art are still so wonderful though.

Green Lantern Kyle Rayner Volume 1

This was such a joy to read. Despite being such a big fan of Kyle’s I hadn’t had the chance to read his origin before purchasing this book. I didn’t enjoy the last few issues as much as the rest of it—it felt out of place with the rest of the story. Even still, this book deserves an A+ rating.
