I love this memoir about being adopted, following your passion, building a career, and finding your people. Marcus' grit, wit, and humor really shine through. Very inspiring! Highly recommend.

I listened to an audiobook version of this novel several years ago and still think about it. It is a good treatment of the history of the end of the Ottoman Empire, told through the eyes of villagers in a border town between Greece (?) and Turkey. It brings out cultural differences between Christians and Muslims from that part of the world, before and during the first world war.
