The 19th Christmas: Women's Murder Club 19
by
James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

This book center around an investigation in which the mastermind had set off a chain of events to keep the police distracted while he executed his true crime, on Christmas. This story was very Boxer and Conklin oriented. Claire and her husband are in San Diego. Except for the beginning and the epilogue, she is not in the story. Cindy is tasked with a story about Christmas traditions from the immigrant community. Cindy uncovers a wrongful imprisonment story and takes it to Yuki. Those two storyline intersect each other but are so minor they take up a few chapters. As with the last Women's Murder Club book, the story does not involve the 4 friends discussing the crime(s) over drinks. That being said, I still liked this story and would recommend it.

Target Alex Cross

Assassins, assassins, assassins... The story is full of assassins that have been hired to kill politicians. There is an assassin assassinating an assassin... There are so many characters (government officials) that at times I got lost, but it definitely made me wonder about the line of succession. As all Alex Cross books are, you want to keep reading and see what is going to happen. Thankfully, I waited almost a year to read this book, but it ends on a cliffhanger and I only have to wait about a month now. I would definitely recommend this book. Alex Cross is one of my favorite series.

18th Abduction
by

This is not a typical "Women's Murder Club" novel. The girls meet once, maybe twice. Yuki is in the story for about a chapter. Cindy has about three appearances. Claire is in a little more than the other two because she is the medical examiner, and let's face it, bodies add up. But this story is more a murder investigation with Boxer and Conklin and an FBI investigation with Joe. The story starts 5 years ago, but the epilogue is current. Again, this was a good book, but not your typical Women's Murder Club.

The Turn of the Key

Rowan takes a job as a nanny at a secluded home in Scotland. The mother gives her full disclosure that previous nannies have left because the house is rumored to be haunted, although she hasn't seen any evidence of this herself. Rowan is left with an 18 month old, a 5 year old and a hostile 8 year old. The bulk of this story takes place over the course of a week. You don't know the true reason why Rowan has been arrested until about 30 pages till the end. This was one of those books where if I was reading it, I was wrapped up in it but if I got interrupted, I would walk away from it. It wasn't an "oh I can't wait to get back to it" kind of book. That being said, the last 100 or so pages, I couldn't wait to get back to. From a smart home in which things fail, footsteps in an attic, and a locked door in the nanny's bedroom, everything finally comes together.

I Know You Know

I enjoyed this book. This story is told in 2 different timelines. One is modern day, and the other is 1996. In 1996, two boys were murdered, the storyline goes through the "investigation". Fast forward 20 years and the same two detectives are trying to solve a murder that appears to have also happened 20 years ago. In the meantime, a podcast has been started, investigating the crime of the two murdered boys. Sounds a bit confusing, but this book was put together nicely. I was not lost reading this. I felt the storyline flowed. I did not like Detective Fletcher. He seemed to be doing anything to get ahead, to make a name for himself and to go around the rules. That did not change throughout the entire book. That been said, I did like the other characters. Jess, Jessy or Jessica (depending on the timeline) really grew up. A single teenage mother who wanted affection and to party, until her son was killed. Now she is married with a teenage daughter, and will do what she can to protect her. I was satisfied with the ending. No, it wasn't wrapped up in a neat little bow, but it left a bit to the imagination.I enjoyed this book. This story is told in 2 different timelines. Looker A Novel
by
Laura Sims

I don't like to be negative because I know that everyone involved in the making of this book worked hard, but I absolutely hated this book. This was not a mystery, suspense, thriller or anything that you would think by reading the synopsis or marketing. I don't even know what this book was, to be completely honest. The main character doesn't have a name. The neighbor that she is "obsessed" with, doesn't have a name other than "actress". There is little dialogue in this entire book. The story is written as though the reader is living inside the main character's head. Remember when the USA Network started on cable and would have those made for TV movies that just ended, this book is exactly like that. There is no reasoning for why the character became the way she is, no reasoning behind her husband leaving her, he is just gone. There is no resolution at the end. This is very bizarre story. None of the characters are likeable, except Cat. And by Cat, I mean an actual feline named Cat. I won't recommend this book to anyone, in fact I would warn people away from it. I'm sorry Laura Sims, 1-Star.

I loved this book. A domestic thriller with a few twists and turns I didn't see coming. Of course, like all thrillers, there is that moment you think WHY? But then you realize the book would have ended and it wouldn't have been as exciting. I would recommend this book.

Never Have I Ever

I received this book from Early Readers, through The Librarything. This is the first book I have read by this author. It took me a little bit to get into this book and I can't say that is was "couldn't put down", but I did enjoy this book. Roux blackmails Amy over something happened 20+ years ago and threatens to destroy the life that Amy built. Amy hits back but Roux always seems to be one step ahead. I couldn't figure out who Roux was or how she found out about Amy's past. And although I'm not sure we really find out who she is, you can't help but be hooked.

All By Myself Alone
by
Mary Higgins Clark

One week on a maiden voyage of a luxury ocean liner with the rich and famous. A priceless ancient artifact makes the journey and someone is murdered for it. I felt like the dialogue in this book, at times, was more like interviewer to interviewee; however, I was able to move past that. I liked this story. Even though I was right about who the murderer was, I found myself wavering throughout guessing is it this person or is it this person? Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors of all time and I would definitely recommend this book.

Buried Deep

Jessie is hired to find a mother disappeared 30 years ago. Jessie is also hired to find a woman that disappeared over 15 years ago. Jessie sends Zee out on her first solo case, the missing mother, while she focuses on the other missing woman. Meanwhile, a death in town appears suspicious and gets Colin looking a little closer at Ben. None of these stories intersect, which is nice since so many books have interwoven storylines these days. Ben & Jessie have no interaction in this book, which is strange since they were investigating/or their paths crossed in the first 3 books. There is just enough work / life balance (Jessie, Colin and Olivia) to make this story tangible.

The Bones She Buried A completely gripping heart stopping crime thriller

This starts with the murder of Noah's mother. That investigation leads to decades old disappearances and suicides. While Noah is grieving, Josie is trying to solve a murder that leads to a higher body count. This investigation tests Noah and Josie's relationship, along with her relationship with Noah's siblings. Trying to learn of his mother's past, Josie discovers evidence of more crimes and coverups. There is one small section that leaves a storyline open. What happened? This is not surrounding the murder part of the story but involves Josie personally. I HOPE what may or may not have happened, didn't happen. That is all I am willing to say due to spoilers. As always, anxiously awaiting the next installment of Josie Quinn.
