Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

I read the book and then saw the movie. They were both amazing, but the book, perhaps not surprisingly, stayed with me as a powerful tool to help me grow spiritually.

Enter Jeeves 15 Early Stories
by
P G Wodehouse

I was going through a bit of a tough time a few years ago when a friend said that I should read something from PG Wodehouse to help cheer me up. It was like force-feeding, or force-reading, when he hovered nearby until I opened "Enter Jeeves." Laughter is the best medicine, and Enter Jeeves is a good place to get the first dose. After finishing the book, I was renewed. Visiting Wodehouse's world is a great vacation where you will meet twits and geniuses and lovers and fools. Douglas Adams said that PG Wodehouse was the greatest English author (even better than Shakespeare). I certainly agree.

Stieg Larssons Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set

The only negative with this series is that it will keep you up nights in order to finish reading it. Strong female characters are always welcome, and Lisbeth does not disappoint. Read this series!

Turkish Gambit
by
Boris Akunin

For me, winter is a time of and for mysteries. Boris Akunin's protagonist, Ernst Fandorin, is a Russian spymaster and the setting for this book is the Russo-Turkish War. Fandorin is Hamlet-like in his brooding, but that does not stop him from going into action at the right time. And I recommend this as a winter read - it's cold in Russia, and it's cold in this book. Wrap up, read and enjoy!
