Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Lost and Found

Coming of Age
, October 04, 2023
This was a good book in relation to that I remember reading about these characters in another of her books. Also, to learn about different birds made it quite interesting. There is also a love story in here about Micah Weaver and Trudy Yoder. They both love birds, so their interests begin there. Yet there is a triangle of love when Micah’s former “love” is being brought to the surface. Beyond this, you will need to read this book to see what will transpire. What lessons will they learn along the way? Good read by Suzanne Woods Fisher. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review. Lost and Found became available September 26, 2023.

Joy to the World: A Regency Christmas Collection

Carolyn Miller and Amanda Barratt and Erica Vetsch
Coming of Age

I am sorry to say that I am very disappointed in this book. I was so looking forward to it as I know one of the authors. Carolyn Millers wrote Heaven and Nature Sing. It took a very long time to even get through the first chapter. This was dry writing. Amanda Barratt wrote Far As the Curse is Found. This was a little better, but still difficult to get into. And then Erica Vetsch wrote Wonders of His Love. She should have not even tried. All three ladies need to realize that they need to catch the attention early in the first chapter or no one will read their books. This has a good title and a good cover, which will entice people to want to receive this book. I am sorry gals, but I would not recommend this book. A Life Once Dreamed

Once you get into this book, you will not be able to lay it down! Awesome book that gets you into the characters: Agnes (Aggie) Pratt and Dr. James Harris. They were very close friends when they were younger in Buffalo, but Aggie had run away to Penance, in the Dakota Territory, and became their teacher. Six years later, as a need for a doctor rose, in rode Dr. James Harris. Here the plot thickens. As he tries to win her back, a logger, Sam, is interested. Then a scarlet fever epidemic arises with Aggie helping James. Will he be able to win her back? Or will Sam win out? These are her people now, but is James willing to stay in Penance? Will he understand her reasons for leaving? You will have to read the book to get the answers to these questions and more. I rate this a 5-star out of 5. I had problems putting this book down. Good job, Rachel! A Life Once Dreamed became available for sale August 4, 2020. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review.

The Key to Everything
by
Valerie Fraser Luesse
Coming of Age
, July 06, 2020
REVIEW: This was a slow going book. Took a long time to get through the first portion. This has to do with 15-year-old Peyton Cabot and is set right after WWII. His father comes home messed up after the war and turns to bourbon, which in turn leads to a bad accident on a horse. Peyton gives up his summer to support his mother during this time, but after his father regains consciousness in the hospital, his parents send him down to “Aunt Gert’s” in St. Augustine, FL. From here in St. Augustine, FL, Peyton decides to make they same bike trip to Key West, FL as his father had done at the same age. This is a coming of age story, which at this point becomes interesting. You will need to read the book to find out all that he went through – and all the life lessons he learned along the way. The Key to Everything became available for sale June 2, 2020. DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review.
