Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)

Barbarian Nurseries
by
Hector Tobar
Elizabeth Bolton
, August 04, 2012
Hector Tobar takes on the subject of illegal aliens working for Americans in their homes. In the Barbarian Nurseries a family of about-to-lose-it-all dot-commers must face up to their short-comings when the parents each "escape" separately from the pressures of their lives, unknowingly leaving their young sons in charge of their Mexican housekeeper, who tries to deliver them to their grandfather. The ensuing events show us how flawed our immigration policies are and how greed, entitlement, and guilt work together to help us justify ugly behavior toward our fellow humans. An excellent, well-paced story.

Self Compassion Stop Beating Yourself Up & Leave Insecurity Behind
by
Kristin Neff

Kristin Neff takes us to the next step in our understanding of Buddhist principles and the way we develop ourselves. Her writing is crisp, clear, and very, very kind. She knows the subject of self-criticism and insecurity from personal experience and gives us wonderful ways to move away from verbal self-abuse. I own a hard copy AND and ebook copy!! Excellent book.
