Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Please see the other comments on this title: I do love it so much but it was shelved in the children's section at Powell's in Beaverton. Whenever I find it I buy a copy to give a friend, but I do wish you'd stop putting it where very young kids will pick it up. It's borderline adult and incredibly disturbing. Within the first chapter or two a young girl is repeatedly raped and forced to miscarry, by her father.

This is one of my favorite books. I was looking for it to buy for a friend, and I found it on a lower shelf at Powell's in Beaverton...in the CHILDREN'S section. Clearly no one at Powell's had read this, or even more than one review for it, anywhere other than the cover. There is much debate as to whether it even belongs in the YA section at all. I believe the author classifies it as "YA for older teens". Please move it to the YA section. Save a child's psyche. Read a few pages. I'll wait.
