Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Walking with Your Ancestors A Genealogists Guide to Using Maps & Geography
by
Melinda Kashuba
patriciacw
, November 01, 2006
This well-organized, practical, and clearly written book is a unique contribution to genealogists and family historians. Kasuba explains how geography and maps can contribute greatly to finding elusive ancestors. She describes specific methods to focus research, and identifies resources in archives and on the web. The author's Ph.D. in geography and experience as a genealogist combine to provide new insights in this neglected area of research. There is no other genealogy book that begins to cover the use of maps and geography in genealogical or family history research like this one does. No family searcher should be without it.

Bible Message Remix 2.0
by
Less Trad Navpress

This paraphrase of the Bible was used at a retreat I recently attended. It is very fresh, appealing, and according to my retreat leader, also quite accurate translating the meaning of the language from Hebrew and Greek. I have never been fond of vernacular translations or paraphrases, but intend to buy a copy of this one!
