Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Nick & Norahs Infinite Playlist
by
Rachel Cohn
gileadgrrl13

Nick and Norah's infinite playlist is a wonderful combination of romance, humor, and insight with large dolops of musical excellence. This fast paced novel will keep you on your toes as you go on this rollercoaster of a night, where ex-girlfriends, queercore bands, and russian delis are all a part of one umbrella adventure. Highly readable and witty N&N is the kind of book you'll stay up late to finish.

Wasteland
by
Francesca Lia Block

While many readers may think this is one of Block's weaker novel, upon closer inspection they will discover the complexity of this stunning novel. The characters are as beautiful as they are flawed, portrayed in a tone of longing and bittersweetness, the ending was, to me, not at all tacked on, it flowed with the rest of the story, hinted at from the very beginning. Read this book slowly, so as to absorb all of its details and you will be extremly satisfied.

What Would Buffy Do The Vampire Slayer as Spiritual Guide
by
Jana Riess

I read this book when I was at the height of my Buffy craze, I had just finished the series and was aching for more, this book not only quenched those feelings but forced me to really think about television as philosophy. Excellent read that is as entertaining as is elightening, some of the thoughts brought up by Riess has spured many debates between myself and some of my buffy-inclined friends, read it!
