Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters: Choose & Use Quilting Designs on Modern Quilts
by
Angela Walters

, January 31, 2013
Motivation, Instruction, Inspiration are Angela's subtitles for the sections in her book and fairly apt. I've admired her quilts and followed her blog, so naturally I had to get the book. It's full of clear, detailed photos (some of the best I've seen in a quilting book) and illustrations and advice for which type of quilting patterns to use on different quilt tops. There's a void in the technical instructions - how to start/stop, tension, etc., but she makes up for it with lots of examples. This is a good addition to my quilting library.

Rachael Ray Express Lane Meals What to Keep on Hand What to Buy Fresh for the Easiest Ever 30 Minute Meals
by
Rachael Ray
Carol Yates
, October 12, 2006
Rachael Ray is currently the most popular chef on Food TV and rightfully so. She and her recipes are incredibly down to earth. Her meals are simple, quick to prepare and yet TASTY. Some may wonder why you need a cookbook for simple recipes, but that's precisely the point. When you are most frazzled, stressed, and exhausted from a long day and want something easy and fast to make for dinner is exactly the time you won't be able to think of anything to make. Rachael's book has the answer.
