Dressed for Death A Commissario Guido Brunetti Mystery
by
Donna Leon

I love the way Donna Leon makes Venice another character in her series of Brunetti mysteries. These mysteries could happen only in that city unlike some other mystery novels where the place is irrelevant to the story. As always Brunetti is a delightful character, not only an inspector but also a friend, husband, and father.

I have really enjoyed all of Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache books, but this one was especially magical. The setting was so unique and her writing made me feel like I was there. This book truly is a beautiful mystery.

Truly wonderful book! Loved everything about it....EO Wilson is a great naturalist and this naturalist sensibility played directly into this novel.

This book drew me into the story from the moment I started it. It was magical and disturbing all at the same time. I think that it was made even more disturbing by the fact that there have been several real life cases that were eerily similar to the story. It would have been a creepy book even without knowing that this has really happened to some people.

I fell in love with Emily Carr's paintings of trees when I visited Montreal and saw a special exhibit at the Musee de Beaux Artes. This book really brought her to life for me and gave me new insights into her art. In a serendipitous coincidence I read Louise Penny's Brutal Telling just after I finished this book and it had an Emily Carr connection that was so much richer for having reading this book.
